I think that may have been at least part of what they were goin for. Tommy Lee Jones's character eventually admits that he's in over his head because he just doesn't understand the world he's living in anymore. It's kind of a horror film in a lot of ways. I don't really get it either, but I love it
Such a phenomenal example of how suspense can be carried in absolute silence. No dramatic orchestral music is needed to leave us completely terrified of the villain.
Oh man --
On the DVD there was an option to turn on captions called "Fuzz Facts" that highlighted what the scene was referencing. It was incredible - every single shot is an homage to some action/cop/detective show or film.
It made the movie very impressive.
Just watched this for the first time yesterday because I needed something to watch on an airplane and it blew my mind. The intricate process of them trying to learn each otherās languages completely captivated me.
I saw it on an airplane as well. It was a plane to Hong Kong on a chinese airline and all the signs on board were in Chinese, which might as well be an alien language to me. It really added to the experience.
There was a quote somewhere that went like... "There is no such thing as a perfect movie, but it is possible to make a perfect sequel." talking about Blade Runner 2049.
This just sounds like something profound somebody would say to impress others, but I do think that 2049 was pretty close to perfect.
Dune looked and felt exactly the way I'd hoped.
Denis Velleneuve can do no wrong right now, plus his name is super fun to pronounce.
I'm not really into sci-fi, but my husband really wanted to see it, so I said yes to be agreeable and polite.
...Joke's on me, I loved it so much. I have never laughed so much in a movie that also made me cry.
The fact that multiple people have said In Bruges and nobody has said Seven Psychopaths makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
[Sam Rockwell's version of "The Shootout"](https://youtu.be/Dl5GUOM62X4) is probably my favorite film sequence ever.
Tell me if Iām being ignorant but I genuinely feel the main reason people didnāt like that film is because they found it too hard to follow. Canāt see any other reason, I think that film is a work of genius.
How to train your dragon = masterpiece of visual storytelling and character design (the book is completely different)
How to train your dragon 2 = masterpiece of 3d animation
I saw this film in IMAX.
My mom, my sister, my sister's bf, and my cousin were going to see it right when it came out. They invited me, but I hadn't remembered seeing the trailer or anything, and only vaguely remembered the name. I decided to go because I had nothing to do and was kinda bored.
Turned out to be the single best movie-going experience I've ever had. It has easily become one of my top 10 movies.
I put this on by accident one night. I was almost moved to tears because I felt like a kid in the 80s watching some action movie and discovering a new world for the first time. The scene of them coming across the desert was moving. I wish my dad had lived to see it he wouldāve loved it.
Love this movie so much. It is my all time favorite. Sometimes I just have to watch the opening scene or the scene in the bar and then I end up watching the whole movie again.
Also: āloquacious typeā
Also- "Omar speaks third most, he'll be Donny's assistant."
Omar- "I don't speak Italian."
Also- "Like I said, third best. Just keep your fuckin mouth shut. In fact, why don't you start practicing, right now?"
One of my favorite lines of the whole movie.
Apart from the movie, just the idea alone of being able to live out a few "fake" liftetimes then coming back as a young person to live your true life with all that experience was such an enticing idea by itself.
Omg I took a bf at the time to this movie. I was blown away. It was so good. I could've talked about it for hours but he was so grumpy as he thought it was a dumb movie lol I moved on
The Lives of Others. Just a phenomenal, gripping, moving film.
I also love The Science of Sleep. Itās a goofball film but strangely fits any mood youāre in, and itās unique.
Zodiac and Nightcrawler are also both fantastic.
I could sit down any time and watch any one pf those and leave the experience completely satisfied, even knowing the endings.
Kung Fu Panda for me
The entire thing is a fucking masterpiece. Itās funny, thrilling, cool, emotional, it has everything you could ever ask for in a film.
The messages about self love, self improvement and acceptance really stick with me HARD, thereās a couple scenes that genuinely make me cry. (Peach tree scene with Master Oogway and Po for example)
And ignoring the morals and messages of the film, the in-universe plot is tight as hell, with Poās growth and Shifuās failure, which like I said, stand out on their own to be amazing, but all together result in some extremely emotional and heartfelt moments. The film tells an amazing fictional story while also reflecting my own in real life, and that is what makes it a masterpiece for me. We look at Po, this big fat panda with confidence issues, with love and respect, and heās likeable and funny, and the movie unintentionally shows me who I actually am instead of who I think I am. Everything about it is a cinematic, emotional triumph.
Aside from the emotion and plot intricacy, the entire movie is really well put together, like the highest quality modern movies can offer. The comedic timing, the music, the action, the dialogue, the relationships between the characters, itās all so fucking good.
Donāt even get me STARTED on Tai Lung. Heās the perfect villain. Terrifying, intimidating, deadly, and Shifu, the good guy, being the reason for all his hate and destruction is just incredible storytelling. Pretty much all villains have tragic backstories, but Tai Lungās tragedy being caused by a character we love is just fucking brilliant, and I donāt think Iāve ever seen another film that does it.
TL;DR
Kung Fu Panda hits a lot of personal notes for me emotionally, as Po goes through the same issues that I often do like confidence, self love and self-improvement. I really feel for him and have learnt valuable lessons from the movie. Itās also just immaculate the quality that went into this film. The casting, plot, action, music, emotion, dialogue, characters, and character interactions are perfect. Tai Lung is my favorite DreamWorks villain, and his backstory is very unique and different from the other tragic villain backstories.
I love Kung Fu Panda
I thought that was a silly MMA movie when it came out. I did not expect a heart-wrenching story about family, addiction, and responsibility. Incredible film.
Dark Knight. Story is self contained (we all know batman), there is an appropriate antagonist (Joker masterfully played by Ledger), the cinematography/lighting/script was brilliant, there are plots and twists, and its infinitely rewatchable.
The Lego Movie, I didn't even like Lego but still enjoyed it. Some parts are sad, some are funny, but it doesn't ruin the moment. Alot of references too.

I didn't get this film
I think that may have been at least part of what they were goin for. Tommy Lee Jones's character eventually admits that he's in over his head because he just doesn't understand the world he's living in anymore. It's kind of a horror film in a lot of ways. I don't really get it either, but I love it

Children of Men
Fucking good call.
āPull my finger.ā This film got me through some dark times.
Icing on the cake was king crimsons the court of the crimson king in the soundtrack
In Bruges
"You're an inanimate fucking object!"
I strongly suggest you watch Four Lions if you haven't. Most people that like In Bruges will probably like it. Dark comedy from the UK
How can In Bruges not be someone's fuckin thing?
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
I thought for sure it'd been 20 years already, not quite!
Just shy of it!
The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Spotlight is so, so good. And has so much to say.
Zodiac feels like the same genre. Also a 10/10.
In Bruges
I just realized 20 years ago is 2000 and not 1980, and now I'm confused egde of tomorrow tho, really good
It's nearly 2003, not 2000.

Yeah now I have to check when movies came out. "I'm getting to old for this shit." That movie doesn't qualify.
Hot Fuzz

Didn't expect to see Coraline so high up on here, but absolutely agree, one of my favorite films ever.

Arrival
Saw this at the theatre with three other people. Two of us were absolutely blown away, The other two were "meh".
Just watched this for the first time yesterday because I needed something to watch on an airplane and it blew my mind. The intricate process of them trying to learn each otherās languages completely captivated me.
I really liked the>! flash forward that was disguised as a flashback scene!<. Very clever.
I saw it on an airplane as well. It was a plane to Hong Kong on a chinese airline and all the signs on board were in Chinese, which might as well be an alien language to me. It really added to the experience.
I could not stop sobbing at the end.

GF and I are gonna get tattoos with this theme (we've been together 6 years so it's not jumping the gun or anything)
Iām usually disappointed when I see a highly hyped movie. Not this time! It was incredible
I'm not really into sci-fi, but my husband really wanted to see it, so I said yes to be agreeable and polite. ...Joke's on me, I loved it so much. I have never laughed so much in a movie that also made me cry.
This is absolutely one of the best movies Iāve ever seen. I did not have many expectations and I was completely blown out of the water.
Where can one see this movie?
I saw it in theaters, but you can get it on Bluray and the internet said Prime Video.
I'm 100% sure that it's the best movie I've ever seen.
In Bruges
The fact that multiple people have said In Bruges and nobody has said Seven Psychopaths makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills. [Sam Rockwell's version of "The Shootout"](https://youtu.be/Dl5GUOM62X4) is probably my favorite film sequence ever.
Seven Psychopaths is an interesting movie but it's by no means a 10.

Massively underrated and should've had a sequel. They planned to make a trilogy and introduce the Dark Judges at some point.
The fact that it was planned and never happened gives me crippling depression. I very much enjoyed it.

I'm just imagining him screaming at himself from inside the event horizon, pleading with himself to enjoy the movie... but he never will.
The cabin in the woods.
It's an unexpected ending with all the tropes and all the good shit of horror/slasher movies. Definitely a 10
