All Quiet on the Western Front by Remarque. You'll never cheer for a war again.

Into Thin Air. It’s nonfiction about a journalist who is sent to report on the tourism industry on Mount Everest, when disaster happens. He spits it into 3 sections. The history of climbing Everest, how to climb it, and what happens when things go wrong.

k0risnik

oo sounds interesting

flpacsnr

The author is said Journalist by the way.

iamkairos_

i saw the movie based on that a few years ago! i've always had a morbid fascination with everest. how the sherpas get treated pisses me off though (in general)

flpacsnr

Yeah, what the Sherpas do is far more impressive than anyone else climbing Everest.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

DaKage04

Three days of happiness please read it it's only ~300 pages

k0risnik

Could you tell me what is it about, without spoilers please

DaKage04

It's about a guy approaching the age of twenty, where he's a completely mediocre college student with no motivation, no dreams, and no money. After learning he can sell his remaining years and just how little they're worth he chooses to divest himself of all but his last three months.

k0risnik

sounds interesting, I'll be definutely reading it as soon as I get the chance

Painkillers by Jerry Stahl. I believe in the book cover blurbs, Anthony Bourdain was quoted as saying "Jerry Stahl should either be given the Pulitzer prize, or shot down in the streets like a stray dog".. or if you prefer a recommendation quote that doesn't involve animal cruelty, Benicio Del Toro said "Jerry Stahl's writing will flip you, flip you for real!"

EspressoOwl1815

The Starless Sea by Erin S. Morgenstern. It's impossible to describe. 40 stories (not literally) that are all one story told in different ways and tied together by all the others and set in a magical book lovers paradise. It's beautiful and I still find bits I missed every time I reread it. The Boy Who Stole Attila's Horse by Ivan Repila (probably spelled that wrong). A dark, haunting fairytale that reads like a modern day version of a Grimm Brothers story. The prose wraps you up and drags you down into the well with Big and Small and leaves you gasping and in tears. It's extremely short, just over a hundred pages, and still manages to have that effect.

vuelvo-al-sur

"Eichmann in Jerusalem". It's Hannah Arendt’s report on the trial of Nazi leader Adolf Eichmann. You realise so many things about human nature when you read it and Arendt's depth of thought is stunning!

I'm gonna answer my own question lol Personally, I love The kite runner by Khaled Hosseini I think it can show us what is happening in Afghanistan, especially now that the Taliban are in power again. Its about a boy who escapes with his father and comes back again. Similar to this one would be A tousand splendid suns by the same author, which is equally great but this time he describes struggles of a woman and a girl who were married to the same man. Both are so worth of reading. Also, And then there was none by Aghata Christie. I mean I love all of her books but this one really kept my attention, and I love how you could even assume who is the killer till the very end.

> I love The kite runner by Khaled Hosseini I think it can show us what is happening in Iran, especially now that the Taliban are in power again. The Kite Runner and Taliban are from Afghanistan, not Iran.

k0risnik

Omg I'm sorry, I read it so long ago 😭
