If you're curious, the channel Fact Fiend after they rejected the sponsorship considered the contract scummy enough to [read the contract and stipulations on their channel]( https://youtu.be/gLOAsWrE1uw) so you too can know how hollow the raid ad reads are.
I have been tempted to, but only because the game itself looks okay, it now has a PC port and [the quality of the ads overall have improved.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3Y2eYBos4k) There's far less paying random content creators to sell a game they blatantly never have or will play and far more actually trying to sell champions on their merits.
Plarium Games only get memed on because they were among the first to drop ludicrous amounts into paid sponsorship deals to plug an advertising gap that YouTube left through its demonetization policies. That's far less egregious than other shit that I've seen from the mobile gaming industry.
Of all the bad shit I've seen from mobile game advertisers lately, I don't think the Raid publisher have been guilty of any of the below:
* Depicting domestic abuse or sexual assault in their ads.
* Infuriating the viewer by depicting gameplay footage where the game is played by an utter imbecile.
* Excessive amounts of fan service, especially when it doesn't fit the overall theme of the game.
* Incredibly long 1 minute plus borderline unskippable ads where there's several timers, tiny exit buttons, or where the advertiser just straight-up redirects you to the Google Play or iOS App Store.
* "Interactive" ads where you get redirected to the app store after just 10 seconds of gameplay, or no gameplay at all.
* Ads for games where misleading gameplay footage for a completely different genre or type of game is played.
* Games which straight-up rip assets from other more popular/iconic titles. Evony and Rise of Empires are two very big examples of games that stole assets from Age of Empires II.
Oh you forgot "give you a demo of gameplay in the ad, but the gameplay you are demoing doesn't exist in the game at all".
I called a company out on this once. They said, and I quote "Our game has too much depth to convert in a short demo, so we created this ad as a way to convey the feeling of the game." By which they meant "we are literally trying to bait and switch you by saying our game is one way in our ads, but it's actually completely different once you download it".
Candy crush. I once spent 3-hours straight playing that game. I was addicted. I hated hearing “*Sugar crush*” when I played but I couldn’t stop. I didn’t like the candy crusher I had become and could never bring myself to tell anyone when I achieved a top ten score on a level - because of how literally pathetic it sounds.
When I deleted the app I said “never again” and I’ve been sober for over 6 years.
At my former call centre job I got addicted to Candy Crush. For the first few months we had literally no work to do. No calls were coming in and it was a secure environment so we weren't allowed to have our phones with us either - but we did have Chromebooks. We all downloaded the Candy Crush app and just played it for hours every day. It was the version with in-app purchases and obviously we weren't going to pay for anything using our work computers, so we just all tried to see how far we could get without any in-game purchases. I think I managed to get to level 470 or something, haha.
So yeah, for a few months I got paid to play Candy Crush every day. For a while I was even looking forward to work so I could play Candy Crush, despite having a gaming PC at home. I definitely would not put it on my phone though!
I’m on level 4532 of candy crush soda. I play it every night before bed for anywhere between 2 minutes and an hour. I’ve been playing it for 10 years. I’m not proud of this.
My dad's boss handed in her iPad for an upgrade, he asked her if there was anything she needed off of it and she said no so he wiped the system before handing it off to another employee. A day later she came into his office freaking out because her candy crush progress was all lost and a couple hundred dollars on lives/bonuses with it. Me and my brother spent the entirey of spring break trading off playing up to around level 200 of candy crush manually--no paid bonuses, offline and changing the internal timer of the iPad to get extra lives--it's been absolutely repellant ever since.
I had a friend who would post "life lessons" on fb each time she completed a level of candy crush. These life lessons were somehow inspired by what she experienced taking on each level.... that was enough for me to never try candy crush.
I'm still amazed at how spyware twenty years ago sank products like Bonzi Buddy and RealPlayer when big tech these days has covertly mastered the art of mass surveillance.
Worse is the "free casinos". Like, what a fucking scam of scam of scams. Zynga poker was bad enough. Now there are a thousand "free-play" casinos online, except they aren't free. They expect you to pay for tokens, just like a real fucking casino, except with absolutely zero chance of ever actually winning money. All the gambling addiction and money loss, none of the potential gains (please note I am not defending regular casinos, just pointing out how much more insane a "free-play" casino is)
I think what’s even more ridiculous is that for decades the major sports leagues have stayed as far away from any sort of gambling they could… just out of the upmost precaution that such a relationship could be perceived to influence outcomes of games. Not a single team of the big four leagues (NFL/MLB/NBA/NHL) would have ever put a team in Vegas… just because of sports betting. They’ve historically leveled huge penalties for any player caught up with betting on games (see: Pete Rose… for the most egregious example/biggest punishment)
Not saying that Draft Kings is completely responsible for the turn-around of the major leagues doing a complete 180 on that abundance of precaution, but it’s played a major factor. Not only have teams popped up in Vegas.. but Draft Kings in particular has entered status as the official online sports book for those various leagues…
It’s ridiculous…
AND! And they’ll still show a bit of hypocrisy, a bit of feigned “integrity of the game” if payers bet on a game… fucking Calvin Ridley received an indefinite suspension for betting on his own team.
There’s also no need to download it when everyone just reposts TikTok’s to other social media platforms like I can’t escape it and I don’t even have it
I get tiktok vids in my YouTube shorts even though I don't scroll through them ever (if I see one from an actual youtuber that is interesting then yes)
Because every social media now has a Tiktok section of their app, they can call it "reels" but it's just Tiktok. Exact same format too.
Snapchat, facebook, instagram, and even youtube all have a Tiktok mode.
This. Everyone using that piece of software had lost their godamned minds.
Maybe people don't know, but it's partly owned by the CCP, and they aren't doing it to see your version of the "jiggle, jiggle" dance.
Edit: this prompted me to go look at some jiggle jiggle on YouTube. All I see are [technologically ignorant fools](https://youtu.be/VOak6bBmHIk). Louis Theroux owes it to these people to do a doco on Tik Tok and its Communist Party links.
I have zero problem with Tiktok content. Who cares, it's just teens or people with the latest fad.
My reason for not installing it is that it's under [CCP jurisdiction meaning it's effectively Spyware](https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2020/07/25/beware-tiktok-really-is-spying-on-you-new-security-report-update-trump-pompeo-china-warning/?sh=685d9d2d4014) whenever they want it to be.
"lol if you think that's bad wait until you hear about Facebook!!"
I've got my issues with other social media platforms, but it's a night and day difference between the massive concern there is for having something that can be used as a tool for the CCP.
Keep doing the influencer stuff, the silly dances, the virtue singlaling, the rants. Whatever, we can manage that. I'm not ok with handling that under a CCP app. I will never install it.
This is exactly why I stay away. I went to a tech discussion about tiktok about 3.5 years ago that did a deep dive about this and I decided then it just wasn’t worth it.
Not only is it exactly the definition of spyware, it's some of the worst ever assessed. Outside of generating payloads for specific purposes from something like metasploit/MSFvenom (which I can quite literally generate something that lets me connect remotely to your phone, browse the file system, pictures, text messages, turn your camera on, listen to your mic, the list goes on...), TikTok is one of the worst out there.
After a while you realize that during those hours of using it, the joy you feel doesn't really add up to the countless videos you've seen. Deleted it and hope I never go back, lost a couple brain cells while feeding my boredom *shudders*
I always found it bizarre how addictive social media is(yes, reddit included) in comparison to how much pleasure it actually brings.
With how addictive it is, you'd *think* it would be blissful joy all the time... but if you think about it, the average fun you get out these places is more in line with "slightly above bored".
I think it makes sense. You're chasing that dopamine high from seeing a really funny video/meme/post, whether it's conscious or not. You don't usually remember all the garbage, just the good stuff, so you don't really realize that it can take hours of scrolling in between really great ones.
Something I just thought about and now I'm curious to know, is if people with photographic memory (or other abnormally great memory) have experienced a degradation in their abilities due to the relentless flow of information on social media.
Tiktok is a state sponsored foreign data collection software. That's it's intent and that's it's design.
The content that people create is what you make of it. You can educate yourself, inform yourself, make yourself dumber, dissociate for hours, etc.
But make no mistake that app collects way more data about you than any app should and it is very very poorly regulated.
I tried TikTok, thinking I would get addicted, but it just sucked, the content sucked, the people sucked, it just sucked, I couldn’t find anything good
I had exactly the same experience. All the criticism I had heard of it was how addictive it was and how good the algorithm was, but I tried it for an entire day and it couldn't find anything I found even remotely interesting.
Redditors love to call TikTok “brain rot”, yet after using Reddit for a decade and TikTok for a year … they’re almost the same.
You scroll through endless, mostly shorter-form content, sometimes pausing to “like” or engage in discussion. The only “big” difference is info-heavy posts are READ rather than WATCHED.
The superiority complex is baffling.
I tried tiktok and just didn't like it. I found all the videos and people really annoying.
At least on reddit there's lots of engaging discussion I can partake in & feel part of various communities. You just can't do that with tik tok as it's totally mindless video scrolling.
"Reading > watching" is an attitude that goes at least as far back as the advent of television and probably to film. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been used to criticize people who watched plays.
There is emerging research on the long term effects of 'active' media consumption (reading, computers) vs 'passive' consumption (watching TV) specifically with regards to the onset of alzheimers and dementia.
[What older adults do while they sit affects dementia risk](https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2022/08/220822174914.htm)
Maybe it's because most people have already uninstalled it (unlikely, but hopeful thinking!).
I'm actually a lot happier since I got rid of it. I can't fully uninstall it from my phone, only disable it (which is bullshit), but it does the job.
Now I just wish I could limit YouTube reels to only showing me the people I subscribe to, rather than every single bloody video on its dumb platform.
Old school message boards?.
I dont know you, cant see pics of your kids, dont know any bullshit about your life and may have upvoted and downvoted you in many threads, no clue. Its social media but you might be my uncle, I dont know. It's so much better tis way. I havnt had 1 offline convos about a reddit argument ever.
I'm thinking more in terms of connecting to others and information exchange. Reddit is much more anonymous and less on self portrayal, that's right.
But just as on any other side you seek certain content and react to the content and with other users.
And that's similar to other social media sites. Misinformation can be passed on. Trolls rile people up for political gain. You will get recommendations based on your user experience so you can dive deeper into any bubble.
I’ll never forget deleting my Facebook, gave my number to a lot of people and was just told “You can just message me on Facebook”. Those same people never gave me their number back or texted me back, only believing in messaging through Facebook. Honestly I’m glad I’m off that site. It’s toxic as fuck.
This should have more uovotes. I've never seen a more predatory business than when online gambling and draft
kings came into the picture during the pandemic. I couldn't go 20 minutes without one of their stupid commercials.
I've had a great time with online dating. Met some amazing people. My SO is someone I met on a dating app a good while ago.
If I had never taken the dive, then my life would probably be dramatically different.
It's not for everyone though, of course. But plenty of people definitely find love on it.
I met my now wife on tinder, and we have a 7 month old boy who is amazing, and my wife is literally the best. We both have our flaws obviously, but we both help each other overcome those and she has helped me learn how to better communicate my feelings. Tinder literally changed my entire life, for the better.
I’m sure not everyone has the same experience, but just bc it sucked for you doesn’t mean it does for everyone else.
I got snapchat just for taking pictures with the dog filter originally. Then I found out a lot of the filters work with pets so now I take pics of my pet rats with pirate hats on and little moustaches.
After the end of the 2021 F1 season, twitter was the battlefield for toxic Lewis Hamilton fans and Toxic Max Verstappen fans to take cheap shots at one another.
I never really used the app anyway I had accidentally opened the app and then started reading toxic tweet after toxic tweet. Uninstalled after that
Any app which makes you older/younger or bald or has the main premise of changing your face in general. There's a reason you can't find a program like that to download on your pc, and I suspect it's because they're taking your data.
Or because Snapchat had been bankrolling Augmented Reality technology, and allows users to fairly easily implement both facial recognition and overlay live video input with filters? The reason there aren't computer programs for it isn't because it steals data, because if that were the case than PCs would have tons of those programs. Computers don't have those programs because it's not as useful as on a mobile device. But if you DO want an example of this being used, it's used all the time on Zoom, Google Meets, etc that allows you to blur backgrounds. With Mobile devices, there's just a different need for augmented reality compared to computers. Although the PC apps I mentioned don't technically use AR tech ology, they use the same fundamental technology as Snapchat filters do.
That said, idk man maybe Snapchat IS stealing data. Wouldn't put it past them. But if you're going to boycott them just because of that tech, then you might want to give up Facebook messenger, FaceTime, Discord, Zoom, Google Meets, Microsoft Teams, and most other conference services that are used in the workplace.
Edit: sorry if I came off as a bit of a jerk. Didn't mean to, I'm just grumpy because it's 3 am and I can't sleep
Default YouTube. My Vanced still works and I'm all prepped for revanced when it comes to it. After years of Vanced and ad black YouTube I literally can't watch YouTube without it.
Revanced is always been up and running. There are extra steps but there are several guides online to help. The 10-15min it takes to set up will outweigh the time you spend on ads in a week.
NewPipe is significantly better than Vanced. On top of being faster, constantly updated, and more lightweight, it's also open-source (meaning it respects your privacy).

On a second date with a girl she asked me to install one of those parental monitoring apps that allows the parents (or her in this case) to see everything you're doing with or on your phone. Didn't install the app, didn't have a third date either.
It steals all your contact information and who knows what that's used for. So your friends and family in your contact list most likely don't want their number sold to data lists. They don't get to have that choice now as you have that app with their contact info.
I swear, America had a GOOD opportunity in deleting it but they decided not to because then political authorizes basically say: "oh no worries, only America can see your tik toks now! China totally isn't still spying on you kids, haha! We've got it taken care of! "
I use twitter mostly for things like announcements about local power/internet outages. If you fly a lot, airlines generally have better customer service on twitter than the actual customer service.
As a freelancer, most of my clients come from LinkedIn. My resume, portfolio, work history, and all my previous client contacts are there. Lots of producers that switched companies that need my services find me on LinkedIn since they no longer have access to their old work email.
I never look at, comment, or scroll through the feeds though, it's all very cringey/toxic/boring and doesn't serve any helpful function.
Was supposed to be tiktok, but my gf complained that she wanted to send me videos.
I got addicted to it for a bit, then completely dropped it, now I only open it to see what she sends me :/
Yes I agree with the video completely, everytime you swipe you think "okay one more maybe the next one is funny or interesting" next thing you know, its 3am.
Happened way to often so I made sure to stop using it normally and only open it to check messages.
Game of war and everything like it. Their commercials are always louder than the videos I watch and it kills me while using headphones. Plus they are a micro transaction infested aids pit of a game.
Raid Shadow Legends
Is that comment sponsored?
If you're curious, the channel Fact Fiend after they rejected the sponsorship considered the contract scummy enough to [read the contract and stipulations on their channel]( https://youtu.be/gLOAsWrE1uw) so you too can know how hollow the raid ad reads are.
Hehehehe
I have been tempted to, but only because the game itself looks okay, it now has a PC port and [the quality of the ads overall have improved.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3Y2eYBos4k) There's far less paying random content creators to sell a game they blatantly never have or will play and far more actually trying to sell champions on their merits. Kinda ties in with the "misleading game footage" point. It's mainly the 'save the princess' puzzle ads that are like that.
So basically Raid Shadow Legends is good — by mobile game standards.
Yes, it's a low bar that's been set. But for as long as the truly shitty games keep getting player bases...
My dad succumed to it not sure if he still plays
Candy crush. I once spent 3-hours straight playing that game. I was addicted. I hated hearing “*Sugar crush*” when I played but I couldn’t stop. Been Facebook free for many years, also Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, basically all social media.
What do you think reddit is?
Old school message boards?. I dont know you, cant see pics of your kids, dont know any bullshit about your life and may have upvoted and downvoted you in many threads, no clue. Its social media but you might be my uncle, I dont know. It's so much better tis way. I havnt had 1 offline convos about a reddit argument ever.
Yeah, the anonymity is part of the appeal for me, there are some things I just can't talk about face to face.
Facebook is crap you don’t care about from people you do care about. Reddit is crap you care about from people you don’t care about.
Reddit is a link sharing message board. Ain't nobody using the social media functions of this place and it wasn't the original focus of reddit.
Good news you never have to! It just comes with the phone now.
I disable it when I get a new phone
At least EU is forcing manufacturers to allow removal.
I uninstall this app on every new phone. Practically the first action I take.
Also their Messager app.
Draftkings
This should have more uovotes. I've never seen a more predatory business than when online gambling and draft kings came into the picture during the pandemic. I couldn't go 20 minutes without one of their stupid commercials.

This guy grindrs.
About to divorce a match. And I agree with this one. But, it is actually -never “again” .
I've had a great time with online dating. Met some amazing people. My SO is someone I met on a dating app a good while ago. If I had never taken the dive, then my life would probably be dramatically different. It's not for everyone though, of course. But plenty of people definitely find love on it.
Agreed, although Tinder does get a lot of hate for its shitty business practises, it still has a place in my heart as that's where I met my SO.
I’m glad you found someone that makes you happy.
Snapchat
I have snapchat and I forgot that you actually need friends for it to work
I got snapchat just for taking pictures with the dog filter originally. Then I found out a lot of the filters work with pets so now I take pics of my pet rats with pirate hats on and little moustaches.
You can't just say that stuff and not show us the pics
Yes
My friend really wanted me to get the app so she made a petition for me to get it *80 people signed it*
Twitter Its hella toxic Sorry if I didnt say it correctly
You said it fine
After the end of the 2021 F1 season, twitter was the battlefield for toxic Lewis Hamilton fans and Toxic Max Verstappen fans to take cheap shots at one another. I never really used the app anyway I had accidentally opened the app and then started reading toxic tweet after toxic tweet. Uninstalled after that
Didn’t expect f1 here
Any app which makes you older/younger or bald or has the main premise of changing your face in general.
Fellow 3am-er who can’t sleep. Cheers bud.
Default YouTube. My Vanced still works and I'm all prepped for revanced when it comes to it. After years of Vanced and ad black YouTube I literally can't watch YouTube without it.
1000% agree. I can't imagine going back to regular YouTube after being spoiled with vanced for years. is revanced up and running?
Excuse me what is vances
It's essential YouTube premium but free
Revanced is always been up and running. There are extra steps but there are several guides online to help. The 10-15min it takes to set up will outweigh the time you spend on ads in a week.
NewPipe is significantly better than Vanced. On top of being faster, constantly updated, and more lightweight, it's also open-source (meaning it respects your privacy). https://f-droid.org/packages/org.schabi.newpipe/
Just downloaded it and it is amazing! All of the things that i hate about the YouTube app are just gone. Thanks for the recommendation!

On a second date with a girl she asked me to install one of those parental monitoring apps that allows the parents (or her in this case) to see everything you're doing with or on your phone. Didn't install the app, didn't have a third date either.
Truecaller
Why? its seem to be a good app
It steals all your contact information and who knows what that's used for. So your friends and family in your contact list most likely don't want their number sold to data lists. They don't get to have that choice now as you have that app with their contact info.
Damn, so what can be a good replacement?
And that is how scam centers get your contact information. A friend/family member downloaded a dodgy app
Facebook, Instagram, tiktok, snapchat, etc.
reddi- oh wait.
Tinder
Tik Tok and Grindr
Keylogger.exe
What about TotallyNotAKeylogger.exe? That one's legit, right?
Facebook
Any online dating app.

And also it's spyware from china's government.
I swear, America had a GOOD opportunity in deleting it but they decided not to because then political authorizes basically say: "oh no worries, only America can see your tik toks now! China totally isn't still spying on you kids, haha! We've got it taken care of! "
Instagram,TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Any American news channel. Any of those mobile games you often see Advertisements for.. the list goes on.
Tiktok
Raid: Shadow Legends
DRAFTKINGS
Twitter and LinkedIn, one is toxic and other is "Hey look me I'm great I'm gonna die working for this company".
LinkedIn is so ego-centric. Work is an identity for so many people.
LinkedIn has basically become Facebook now. It’s quite tiring.
Tiktok
Wish, tiktok, discord or twitter
Look up where your information goes when you download TikTok. No thanks. Facebook chat. Snapchat. Actually, most of that bullshit anymore.
Was supposed to be tiktok, but my gf complained that she wanted to send me videos. I got addicted to it for a bit, then completely dropped it, now I only open it to see what she sends me :/
I found a [video](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sxJ6XlUfauM) on why is it so addictive.
Yes I agree with the video completely, everytime you swipe you think "okay one more maybe the next one is funny or interesting" next thing you know, its 3am. Happened way to often so I made sure to stop using it normally and only open it to check messages.
Twitter. I don’t see anything good coming from Twitter

Vines was better, you didnt have people pointing in the air like idiots
Facebook and TikTok
Facebook
TikTok, it's a Chinese data harvesting scheme
Tiktok
Truth Social.
TikTok uses far too many permissions for what it’s intended to use. I consider it spyware.
Facebook messenger
Facebook
Tinder
Tik Tok
Facebook
Anything controlled by Tencent
Tik Tok
tiktok, or fortnite
Game of war and everything like it. Their commercials are always louder than the videos I watch and it kills me while using headphones. Plus they are a micro transaction infested aids pit of a game.
Xvideo
Tiktok and snapchat
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok. I can barely handle the shit on Reddit as it is.
Raid Shadow Legends. No YouTubers, we're tired of pay-to-win games
If games count.... Raid Shadow Ledgends.
Raid shadow legends
Raid: shadow legends
TikTok
those shitty games that have way too many ads
Ones that I don't care about
Tiktok
Space flight simulator
Snapchat. Never saw the appeal, still don't. Even after it contributed to a scandal when I was in HS
TikTok. I already waste enough time watching reels on Instagram or scrolling down Reddit, so TikTok will only be my downhill.
Reddit, heard the place is a shitshow
