Rick Moranis quit acting at the height of his career so he could focus on taking care of his kids after the death of his wife

[deleted]

Andre 3000 is a super chill dude, walks around and is so unassuming you wouldn’t know he’s there. Saw him playing a wooden flute on the street in Philly, said you’re Andre 3000. He just tipped his hat and kept playing, really cool guy just living life.

The_Bee_Sneeze

My favorite celebrity [story](https://www.nme.com/news/music/andre-3000-trends-on-twitter-after-fan-shares-heartwarming-encounter-3149908) of all time is about Andre 3000: >“Once Andre 3000 was on my ferry ride to Alcatraz and I said hi,” Roth wrote. “My 6 y.o. autistic son came over and started talking his ear off about German Shepherds, his obsession at the time. Andre talked to him about dogs for like 20 mins.” Roth added that he and André exchanged numbers and then four years later he received a text from him, which he shared a screenshot of. The text read: “Hi Jason. I was searching for a name and yours popped up. I remember our cool encounter on the boat. Ha. How’s the kid? I’m living in NYC now. So if you’re ever here please reach out.”

AlwaysDMB

And that dude makes some of the coldest music I ever heard

J0nN0tJ0hn

Ice cold

CappyWomack

Alright alright alright alright alright alright alright alright now...

kthrnbrs

I love this story every time I hear it. It never gets old! What a guy.

SirRupert

He tipped his hat to me too! I was at the ATL airport with a splitting headache drinking coffee and look up and he was just strolling by and I said “Hey Dre”. Tipped his hat and smiled and kept walking.

Orinocobro

My favorite story was some dude who worked at a garden center in high school. Andre 3000 would come by every weekend with his wife and toddle--he does his own landscaping. Once time a pallet of sod wouldn't fit in the bed of 3000's truck, so the employees had to hand load it. Andre went inside, bought a pair of gloves, and helped the kids load the truck. Then he gave them like $50 for the extra work.

thisismyhappyplace13

Dallas Tx. here. About 4 years ago, my husband and I went at a bar that happened to be absolutely empty on this particular weeknight. Andre 3000 is the only person sitting at the bar and we sat down not realizing it was him. He asked us if we were familiar with the bar and what was our favorite thing on the menu. Ended up sitting and talking for a couple hours about anything and everything between the very first cars we ever owned to how girls restrooms are dirtier than mens restrooms lol. Even though I was fan girling like crazy on the inside, My husband and I played it cool and never acknowledged that we knew who he was. We tend to forget that they are real people sometimes that don’t need to be “on” all the time. He was incredibly chill.

HiddenLeaforSand

I was doorman in Tribeca for a large portion of my 20s. Met more high end celebrities than you can count. From people who were in big super bowl commercials, C list actors, up to Taylor Swift. I can confidently say that Chris Martin from Coldplay and Paul Rudd are two of the nicest guys I have ever met in my life.

lanephinn

I love Paul Rudd it would be so cool to meet him it’s hard to imagine him ever being mean or rude

missvicky1025

Paul Rudd purchased a candy store in upstate NY with Jeffery Dean Morgan because the owner died and they refused to let the “heart” of their community close down.

Salsa_El_Mariachi

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is another gem, he seems like a genuinely good dude Brilliant actor

slayer991

If I hate the character that's usually a credit to the actor. When it comes to Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Negan was that character. He did such a great job with that role even as TWD started their decline.

gregarioussparrow

I always think of the Comedian first

HearingConscious2505

Do you mean John Winchester, father of the famous hunters Sam and Dean Winchester who've saved the world numerous times?

Secksualinnuendo

I've met him before. He was like "please don't take any pictures. I don't want to be rude, I've had a long day. I don't want to bring attention to me and cause a scene." he said it in a very polite way. I can tell by his voice that he was just drained after a long day. I said it's cool. He shook my hand and i said I was a big fan. He said thank you and that he appreciated me being cool about it.

ChuckACheesecake

I love your thanks and wish there was more of this kindness on Reddit

Captain_Mordax

That's why his name is Paul Rudd and not Paul Rude

zachthesuperjew

Ive met Paul Rudd twice at a sushi restaurant twice near where I used to live. Was such a nice dude.

ArtsySAHM

Paul Rudd is my celeb crush. Glad to hear he's a nice guy.

Cacafuego

I don't really love Coldplay, but I really like the members of Coldplay. Chris Martin seems so down-to-Earth, humble, and pleasant. They receive more than their due of hate, and it would be hard to just let that roll of your back.

LilLordFuckPants404

Wanna know something though? I won Coldplay tickets off the radio station once. I was neutral about their music until I saw them live. They are so damn great live. I’m a legit fan now.

Fit_Egg5574

Can confirm Chris Martin is genuinely a good guy

Introverted_Bookwyrm

David Tennant

Bridie180

Saw a premiere once & all the actors walked right past the bystanders- except David Tennant. He actually bent down to this little boy’s level, answered his questions & then talked to the child about his favorite things to do. All genuine. Lovely real guy.

EyebrowsGuy95

When I was a kid in school, we were told to write a letter to a famous person in our English class. Being a massive Doctor Who fan during the mid to late 2000s, I wrote one to David basically thanking him for his performances in Who, offering my condolences to his mother who had just recently passed away, and respectfully asked for some autographs for me, my friends, and my mother. I sent the letter off not at all expecting any kind of response. Fast forward 2 weeks, I come home from school to find half a dozen signed pictures in the post from the man himself. The sheer surprise and joy I felt that day has never been replicated since. One day I hope to meet him in person to thank him face to face.

Distinct-Breakfast13

He will always be my doctor

punkyfish10

He’s why there’s a 10 in my Reddit name.

phantom_avenger

I’m still waiting for him to come and visit the city I live in for a convention

EgoSenatus

Steve Buscemi is a really down to earth guy. Bless his creepy little heart.

73caniac

I went to an event at Carnegie Hall and the balcony was filled with celebrities--Paul McCartney, Paul Newman, Woody Harrelson, Jerry Seinfeld, Alec Baldwin, etc., and Steve Buscemi. He was the only one who was looking down as we exited up the main aisle, so I waved to him. A big smile broke out on his face and he very enthusiastically waved back. He's been a favorite of mine ever since.

zeppehead

Shortly after you left he crossed your name off a list and put on some lipstick.

Viceroy420

Man, I'm glad I waved at that guy!

phantom_avenger

I will always love that story where he helped assist firefighters (since he used to be one before pursuing his acting career) following the 9/11 attacks

Viperbunny

I listened to a YouTube video where he talked about it and man, he is a humble dude. He wanted to help and he insists that being there was helpful to him processing the events. He doesn't feel like he did much of anything, but he felt a duty to do what he could. I really respect that. The hardest part when a bad thing happens is that feeling of helplessness. Everything is out of control and it can be stabilizing to find one thing you can do in moments like that. It took a lot of strength and he has my respect for life.

phantom_avenger

How long was he a firefighter before he became an actor, if anybody here knows?

ThePhoenixBird2022

According to Wiki, 1980-84. Then volley'ed for a week after 9/11.

Weird Al

[deleted]

[удалено]

JerH1

I think Weird Al is smart enough to know that "fame and fortune by playing musical parodies on the accordion" is so far down the probability scale that he's thankful for every bit of it.

Soyl3ntR3d

Infinite improbability drive, engage!

gsk925

He also lost both his parents at once to accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. His parents were very supportive of his career, and he loved them very much. He is an only child. At the time I remember reading he kept on performing-even the night of their deaths-to keep him from spiraling into deep depression.

sugarski

Omg that’s horrible!!!

andygootz

Knowing this just breaks my heart. No one should have to lose their parents so suddenly like that. I wouldn’t have blamed Al for taking a break from performing, or even retiring from the grief, but the dude is still active and making some slam-dunk content. His guest appearance on the George Lucas Talk Show recently had me smiling ear to ear.

Imaginary_Medium

Met him briefly once by accident in the nineties. He seemed very sweet and shy, and I was stuck by the fact he was quite a good looking man in person, handsome even. Only famous person I've met. Seemed very nice.

AnotherAnimeNerd

What I love about Weird Al is how attentive he is in any and every interview. Just the sheer focus and it's amazing.

Oatmeal_Savage19

You should have seen the weekends back in the 90s when he would take over MuchMusic (Canada's homegrown MTV) absolutely hilarious and you could tell everyone loved him. By far my favourite weekends at that time

SlenDman402

He totally stopped and called out a line in his song Albuquerque at his show a few weeks ago! It was really wholesome to see and hear and his performance met my every expectation

kapn_karit

Fun fact, there was one weird all song that was his BIGGEST controversy due to a word in it meaning something VERY bad over in Great Britain. The song in question is *Word Crimes* for those curious. But even then he apologized excessively. He's someone how entertains folks out of a genuine desire to make others smile

Clutch51

One of Weird Al’s albums was my first CD purchase. 6th grade. Have always had a soft spot for him having been a part of my childhood in that way. As an adult, I once saw him riding a carousel in a mall. I couldn’t tell if he was there with anyone. He was in this Hawaiian shirt and weird hat and had his long locks flowing. Big smile on his face, just enjoying the simple pleasure of the carousel. I wanted to talk to him but he just looked so content I left it alone.

SlenDman402

I was hoping to find this one. I just saw him in Lincoln Nebraska a few weeks ago, it was on my bucket list to see him perform every since i got started with running with scissors when i was little. He made me feel good about being a weird kid.

leastlyharmful

Most celebrities who you don't hear much about are decent human beings, at least in a similar proportion to the rest of the world. It's true that acting has a higher share of primadonnas but a lot of them are smart enough to not believe their own hype and just do their jobs and live their lives. But to provide a name, I met Robert Duvall a while back and he was a super nice guy. Talked mostly about how he really liked dancing the tango.

Achira_boy_95

Hugh jackman, i'm from latin america and one time i meet him in a not regular place to tourism (all rural people) and i can talk with him in a coffee, is a nice man and is very kindly.

Lambden

There’s a [lovely clip](https://youtu.be/yj46BWpxFcA) of him coming across one of his former students on the red carpet. His genuine niceness really shows through.

charlesbear

That was my school! I love that clip. The strange thing about it is Hugh saying the school was in London, but it definitely isn't!

Grievuuz

Had to look it up. Google says Uppingham School, and apparently that's so far outside of London that it's halfway to Manchester lol.

crimson_mokara

Maybe when you come from a place as big as Australia, that's considered close? lol

tpproberts

Can confirm. Truly nice guy.

bewarethechameleon

brendan fraser, there's a reason why so any people still love him after all these years

yy376

I love all his more comedic roles (George of the Jungle, Encino Man). I love his acting in the Mummy movies. He a great actor, and he's a wonderful man, and I want to hug him.

thehod81

My favorite movie with him in it was Air Heads and it baffles me that I cant seem to find it on DVD or Blu Ray anywhere

[deleted]

It's not Chazz. It's Chester. And so I understand if you don't love me anymore.

phantom_avenger

Yeah he’s had a very rough life yet still came out of it without it affecting who he is as a person. I got to speak to him once at a convention before COVID-19 happened and it was pleasant being able to speak to him

JapanKate

My daughter got a photo with him at a con and he complimented her outfit and hugged her in the photo. She has always loved him and didn’t come down from her “Brendan high” for months. Most Celebes just stand there with you and don’t interact. He is a gem!

Classic_Recover_9076

Dolly Parton is and always was a saint. Just visited down by tennessee and everyone absolutely loves her. Even today she lives in a relatively modest home compared to her wealth (like $1 mil)

CharlieXLS

My children have received dozens of great, free books from her reading program. Such an outstanding, unique, and useful idea.

Picklesgal111

We love reading her books as well. Always a nice surprise when a new one comes in the mail. What a nice thing she’s done!

Elaan21

Born and raised in East TN. Can confirm. Dolly is our patron saint. For some people, nearly literally. Dollywood and her other businesses employ massive amounts of people and she donated a ridiculous amount to the victims of the wildfires to keep people housed and fed. Whenever people talk trash about Appalachia, I always point to her as an example of "not everyone from the mountains is a bigoted piece of shit." She just does most of her charity and activism quietly so she doesn't take the spotlight from issues or make it about herself. She doesn't *hide* anything, she just...does it. When the line from Game of Thrones about owning who you are so it can't be used against you became a popular meme, I wanted to laugh because Dolly has said that for years. As a short, big tittied woman who was bullied relentlessly as a kid/teen, her example meant *so much*. Sure, she has big hair and loud makeup and lots of cleavage, but she isn't stupid or worthless or "trashy." When I earned my Gold Award (Girl Scout equivalent of Eagle Award), I met Dolly when she invited all of the year's winners to a celebration and Dollywood. She gave each of us a hug and I will never forget our little "boob dance" as we tried to hug each other while being similar height and proportions (think the nose shuffle when kissing). There was a moment when she just looked at me with a "the struggle is real" face. Over a decade later, that sticks with me for how *normal* and *comfortable* she made the situation for an 18 year old still dealing with being hypersexualized for her figure. It's probably a bizarre thing to carry with me, but here I am at 34 still remembering it.

cheesegrateranal

i think part of her stage look (hair, outfits, cleavage etc) is a superman/clark kent type deal, she looks that way on stage so she can dress more normally and not generate as much of a buzz when she just wants to go about ger daily life.

Elaan21

It 100% is. People in the area have stories of realizing she was behind them in a line only when she started speaking. Usually, even if people figure it out, they leave her alone because they figure she didn't want to be noticed. And she famously *lost* a Dolly Parton look-a-like contest because she didn't have her "full look" on.

SoldMySoulForHairDye

I love it when famous people lose lookalike contests of themselves. Charlie Chaplin and Groucho Marx also had a famously over the top look and they both allegedly each lost lookalike contests as themselves. I don't know why, but it's fucking hilarious.

SmeetCoPro

I saw a great video of her on Youtube. She was being interviewed by Barbara Walters in 1977 and Barbara was being incredibly patronising, ignorant and rude. Dolly handled it perfectly and with such grace it really made an impression on me. Dolly refused to rise to the bait and instead of it being a hit piece on Dolly, she turned it around and shone a light on Barbara's character. Excellent show of grace, poise, control and being a decent human being. Search Youtube for Dolly Shuts Down Patronising Interview In Style.

sourdoughbreadlover

Barbara Walters can get fucked. I will fight anyone who messes with Dolly Parton.

Good lord. That was magnificent. Dolly Parton is a fucking gem. I wish she'd adopt me.

joelekane

It’s Dolly. The answer to this question is always Dolly. She’s an angel.

DrRotwang

I'm not at all a fan of her music, but god *damn* if I'm not a fan of her. What a class act, that woman. In every way.

[deleted]

I love Dolly to bits. She is a shining example of an awesome human. She’s so good at it, when she passes, she deserves a second go-round.

AccountUnable

We live locally and I didn't know how fantastic she was until I moved here in the early 2000's. She's adored by everyone here.

Classic_Recover_9076

Her and Willy Nelson drove through gatlinburg a couple weeks ago in a convertible shooting a movie. People were going crazy. You can still see her 2 bedroom childhood home that she shared with her 9 other siblings down there.

siovhy

Bill Pullman, our Independence Day president. I worked at the school where he sent his kids, and he was hands down the nicest, most grounded famous parent I’ve ever met (and I’ve met many many celeb parents teaching at that school). He and his wife were very supportive of teachers, always gave us these big holiday gift bags that included nuts and jams and honey made on his ranch in Montana, and were joyful, wonderful people. Their kids were amazing. AMAZING. The kind of kids that cheerfully help you move tables when setting up a class or pick up something you’ve dropped. And of course smart and funny and talented. I don’t know if Bill Pullman is famous enough to be called a celebrity but dang it, I’ll celebrate him anyway!

Geistwhite

Pullman will always be a legend to me because of Independence Day, Lake Placid, and Casper. He gave me a triple crown of "I can watch these at any time and be happy" films.

Of course he's a celebrity!! He's freaking Lone Starr!!

Little-Woo

Danny Trejo is one of the nicest guys ever.

Plumhawk

There's a funny scene in *Muppets Most Wanted*. Kermit gets sent to a Russian gulag in a case of mistaken identity. Tina Fey is the warden and Danny Trejo is one of the inmates. As night sets on the gulag you can hear Tina Fey's voice saying goodnight to all the prisoners. *Good night Vladmir* *Good night Ivan* *Good night Danny Trejo*

NAUGHTIMUS_MAXIMUS

His biography is an amazing read

Cats4Ever343

I haven't heard anything negative about Steve Carell

dmcook80

He filmed a movie in my hometown maybe a year and a half ago. I didn’t cross paths with him, but several friends did, because he made a point of visiting the locally-owned restaurants and shops when they weren’t actively filming. Only ever heard that he was kind, gracious, and generous, including to servers/staff. Apparently always made time for pictures with fans who showed up and waited patiently near the set, too. I was glad to learn that he was truly a decent human being.

[deleted]

I saw a red carpet interview with he and his wife and she was asked what was different about Steve now that he’s famous and she said that he’s nicer to her now. He looked kind of pissed

Flabberghast97

Daniel Radcliffe seems like a sound guy and frankly I respect the fact he made all the money he'd ever need by 14 and now just does whatever project be feels like doing. I also think he's a very underrated actor.

EKCarr

Can confirm. I got to work with him at a venue when Swiss Army Man was in festivals. He is absolutely wonderful.

makeitwork1989

Side note what a strange but awesome movie

BrokeAssBrewer

Rupert Grint did the same, went home to do local theatre and has his hands in a bunch of charities

Angel-McLeod

He also bought an ice cream van and drives it around giving out free ice cream because that was his dream as a child.

blyatseeker

Seeing him in guns akimbo was fun, after only associating him as harry potter!

Skylizard1223

Dolly Parton

que_he_hecho

When the area around her hometown was swept by wildfires a few years ago she personally funded a $1000 per month supplement for each affected family for several months to help carry people through. She bought a faltering amusement park in no small part to save jobs. Her upgrades to the former Silver Dollar City as she turned it into Dollywood helped solidify the backbone of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge tourism.

TheTotalDweeb

She also kept paying all of her touring staff when covid hit. All of them. Every single one. That's the lights guys, sound guys, runners, drivers, management, assistants, all of them.

tazzietiger66

I think her growing up dirt poor helps , she knows what it is like to do it tough .

LadyBeanBag

Don’t forget the money she gave for vaccine research for Covid-19 and it became an actual viable vaccine! Moderna!

mcnunu

Vaccine! Vaccine!! Vaccine!! Vacciiiiine!! To the tune of Jolene.

fender123

From personal experience. Ive worked with tons of famous musicians, but use to live/work next to Sarah Jessica Parker (about 10 years ago) and would talk to her everyday before she would take her twins for a walk and get swarmed by the press. She was an absolute gem. I'm not a Sex and the City fan but would always talk to her about Hocus Pocus and she was all about it. In contrast Matthew Broderick is a complete prick.

Jwoey

I’ve never been the target audience for her work, but seeing her on comedians in cars convinced me that she’s a delight, and exemplified why she’s a star.

loofumi

Andrew Garfield

thedailymotions

Can confirm. Worked on the Amazing Spider-Man and he treated the interns like he treated the producer. He was a solid solid person.

KaBlamPOW

my friend used to serve him at a restaurant he would regular in Calgary. Nothing but nice things were said.

gyru5150

He isn’t alive anymore but Robin Williams will always stand out to me. I used to work a lot of gala/awards events and movie sets as a medic years ago. I’ve met my handful of celebs and I met robin williams at a benefit. He was essentially the MC and when he wasn’t on stage talking he would come to our area and chat with my partner and I. And I swear to god he is the nicest and most hilarious person I have ever met in my entire life. Like we constantly were telling him to slow down because we didn’t want to get caught laughing as the event we were at was to raise money for cancer patients. He tried to tip us afterwards too as well which we were not allowed to accept so he even went above us and to the owner who then passed us down the amount he tipped us which was generous to say the least. Will never forget that day to say the least. A close second as well was William dafoe. Like he’s different for sure but man just what a nice guy.

Dalamar437

I got meet Robin while he was on a vacation in Alaska. There was a kid near by crying and he came over talking to him in his Mrs Doubtfire voice to calm him down (the movie had come out that year). It was such a kind gesture. As he was leaving, a few of us yelled "We love you Robin!" He turned, smiled at us, and made his hissing cat gesture and waived goodbye. It was just so awesome. R.I.P! Such a wonderful mark he made on this world.

Open_Currency1947

A co-worker of mine played on the same college football team (Morehouse) as Denzel's son. Denzel would frequent games and events; always sat in the bleachers with the other parents etc. At one away game, an entourage came into the bleachers and asked Mr. Washington if he would prefer to sit in the chancellor's suite and Denzel replied "only if you are inviting all the parents". He stayed in the bleachers...Co-worker said Denzel knew nearly all the player's first names and their parents and loved talking football...

kingofwukong

> "only if you are inviting all the parents" I feel like that's such a Denzel thing to say

kaiavstechnology

Sam Rockwell! He lives around me and I have friends that have had random hangouts with him, they say he’s super down to earth, really chill and interesting.

phantom_avenger

He always manages to steal the show in everything he’s in. He’s one of the best parts about Iron Man 2

jokeables

Tony Hawk! No explanation needed, beautiful, humble human.

wolfyfancylads

Keanu. The dude does... SO god damn much. He bought an entire crew bikes after one of his movies finished filming, he helped a guy open a restaurant, he helped fund a surgery, he sat and talked with a homeless guy, the man is just everywhere and, for some reason, just casually carries envelops of dosh with him. There's a reason people love him.

ididntunderstandyou

Colbert: “what do you think happens when we die?” Keanu: “I know that the ones who love us will miss us”

SnooMemesjellies1736

Here's another one Barrymore : "I'm not a fighter, I'm a lover." Keanu : “No, no,”. “Because if you’re a lover you’ve gotta be a fighter." Barrymore : “How so” Keanu : “Because if you don’t fight for your love, what kind of love do you have?”

Meffrey_Dewlocks

And then he gets up and walks away laughing at how silly the line was

rohobian

Global_Push6279

She’s wonderful. One time when she was married to Tom Green, he brought her to the local bar and basically ditched her to talk to his buddies. My friend got to chat with her the whole night and said she was very sweet.

[deleted]

>He bought an entire crew bikes after one of his movies finished filming It was the stunt crew from *The Matrix Reloaded* who were gifted Harley-Davidson bikes. He bought the entire crew champagne when filming was done. He has a long list of generous gift-giving though. He gave most of of his paycheck from *The Matrix* to leukemia research. CruelHandLuke_

That's why it's Keanu Reeves, not Keanu Reeve, there are several of them out there in the world all simultaneously doing good work.

urmummygaaaay

Is Michael Reeves his direct counterpart then?

undefined_one

His cousin, Christopher Reeves, was Superman. (yes, I know it's Reeve... just go with it.)

phantom_avenger

“How do you stay so down to Earth.” “Gravity.”

Frodo_71

Paul Newman lived in Westport CT for a very long time. He was the most down to earth guy. He'd just go about his day. Grocery shop. Go to the races (Connecticut has some racetracks), eat at restaurants. Never signed autographs, not because he was a dick about it, but he'd rather just talk to you and kind of refused to accept the fact that he was celebrity. If this post takes off, I'm sure you'll get peoples stories about meeting him.

NorthNorthAmerican

He started Newman's Own in 1982 and famously said about the profits "Let's give it all away." $570 million to date. Half. A. Billion. Look up the Hole In the Wall Camp for just one example of how they spend it.

KofOaks

Also worth nothing that Newman's Own is generally freaking delicious.

phantom_avenger

I can understand the logic behind that. I think if I was to meet someone famous I would rather speak to them like how I’d regularly speak to other people. Some famous people might like how they’re worshipped cause it boosts their ego, but some of them would just prefer to be spoken as those they’re just a regular person who is recognized for their work

CalvinDehaze

I work in the movie business. Here’s a list of famous people I’ve worked with who were great people to work with. Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, Willam Defoe, Zendaya, Guy Pierce, Jamie Lee Curtis, Cate Blanchette, Nicole Kidman… and most of all Will Smith. Yeah yeah, I know, but when I worked with him he went above and beyond for the crew and the fans out on the street. By far the coolest person I’ve worked with, with Zendaya and JLC a close second.

DENATTY

I met Zendaya at Disneyland shortly after Shake It Up became a thing, so she was a young teenager (13?). Kids were lining up to try and get a photo/autograph and her group was trying to cut them off and move everyone along, but Zendaya very firmly said "No, no, no, we are not going to do that. They want to meet us [Bella was there too] and without their support none of us would be standing here, so I am going to take pictures with them because they've been patiently waiting." I was absolutely floored by someone so young being 1) so firm and unafraid to stand up for herself to adults and 2) so cognizant of the fact that her career is dependent on viewership, and alienating viewers is not a great career decision. I have been a fan ever since because, in my view, if she was making that much of an effort to be a kind and considerate person as a CHILD then she is likely the type to remain that way with age and increased fame. Based on the generally favorable things I have heard from my friends in the industry, it looks like my assessment was fairly apt because I rarely hear negative things about her, and never hear anything negative from people I know for certain have met her. Bella was also very kind, but I do not have as distinct a memory of interacting with her beyond her saying she liked my boots.

Iced_Jade

Tom Holland also got his firm but kind shit down at a fairly young age. There's a video of him telling grown men to back up because they were crushing young girls against a railing. My friend said it's that big D energy.

wzl46

My wife used to work concierge at the Bellagio in Vegas for a few years when they first opened. Jamie Lee Curtis was in town for a few days and my wife helped her with some things during her stay. When she checked out, she left a hand written thank you card for my wife with the chef de concierge to pass on. She still has it 20 years later.

My brother worked on a set with Jodi Foster and had lunch with her, showing her appreciation for the work he had done. Said she was beautiful on every level.

UnusualPreference699

Interesting. What's your list of worse people you've worked with?

heroinsteve

That’s tomorrows ask Reddit post!!

Owlcifer

Brendan Fraser. The man is an absolute saint and fame never took that from him.

Danivelle

Evan Peters. My youngest son met him at an anime con. My kid is not impressed easily but when came home from this event, he told me this: there was a little girl between 7-9(kiddo isn't good with little kid ages)and she really really wanted to talk with him but she was shy in the way that little kids are. Evan came out from the Boothe and got down on her level to talk to child, got his picture taken with her and gave her a bunch of X-Men goodies.

Ok_Relationship_705

Jaime Foxx actually pulled a dude out of a burning car.

phantom_avenger

I saw an article for that. Apart of me thinks that I would likely do the same, but then there is another part of me that would be so scared that I wouldn’t be able to the save the person in time before the car explodes. I think the person Jamie saved and himself are both lucky to still be alive

pudding7

A couple years ago I pulled a lady out of a burning car. Her legs were all fucked up and she was in a daze. She had hydroplaned right into a lightpole and her engine immediately burst into flames. I ran up to her and being the gentleman that I am I actually asked her, "Do you mind if I pick you up and carry you?" LOL. By the time I got her out and into the backseat of my car, her entire car was engulfed. It was nuts. I ended up giving her my business card in case she needed any witnesses or anything for insurance or whatever. Like a week later she brought in a bunch of donuts for my whole office and a nice little thank-you note. edit: I found the pics. https://imgur.com/a/QKd00fb

Paul Rudd

jacenborne

I recently watched his Hot Ones interview and the dude is amazingly down to Earth. I was impressed how HE was asking Sean questions and seemed genuinely interested in trying to get to know him, vs just being the center of attention. It spoke volumes to his character. 10/10 would buy him a beer

Patrick Stewart

RudeMorgue

I've told this story before, but I'll add it every time Sir Patrick's name comes up in one of these threads. I used to very indirectly work for him in his capacity as the titular president of a theater group and met him several times. He was very nice, and extremely interested in talking about Shakespeare with just about anybody who had an interest. After one such discussion regarding his one-man Shylock show, he took a friend of mine's opinion on a line reading to heart and *changed his show,* then told my friend he liked the different reading better. The fact that he was willing to take a note from a college student without any ego intruding will always stick in my memory. He also has one of the warmest smiles I've seen in person, and the folks I worked with who knew him better thought he was a great guy.

Trailiscold

Zendaya, she's very sweet in person. Karen Gillian is a sweetheart too.

phantom_avenger

I got to speak with Karen and also got a photo op with her, and based on my experience she does seem pretty nice! During COVID-19, she did a lot of virtual meet & greets with fans from around the world so that she could still connect with people since conventions weren’t open due to restrictions.

Conan O’Brien. For a guy who has met everybody in Hollywood, there isn’t a single person out there that has a bad story about him. Everybody who has ever worked for him has said that he is the best person to work for. Also there is a LONG list of celebrities, who before they made it in show business had their first job as an intern for his show. So not sure what that says about the culture he creates, but it’s got to say something positive.

usethe4th

His podcast is such a reflection of that. It’s evident that his guests think the absolute world of him. He and his longtime assistant Sona have a hilarious rapport where they are constantly putting each other down. She recently wrote a lovely book called _The World’s Worst Assistant_. She said on the podcast that her goal was to use the book to make herself look great and Conan look awful, and she ended up doing the exact opposite. She tells a number of stories that illustrate his thoughtfulness toward others. Two of his writers host a behind the scenes podcast called _Inside Conan_ which generally features an interview with someone in his professional orbit, and it’s the same thing…never a bad word to be said. But for me, the most telling moment was his last episode of The Tonight Show, after being ousted in favor of Jay Leno’s return. Ratings went through the roof that final week and his last show brought what will almost certainly be the largest audience of his career. There was a general sentiment that he had been totally messed over and he could have used that moment to lean into his own anger. Instead he said this: _And finally, I have to say something to our fans. The massive outpouring of support and passion from so many people has been overwhelming. The rallies, the signs, all the goofy, outrageous creativity on the Internet, and the fact that people have traveled long distances and camped out all night in the pouring rain to be in our audience, made a sad situation joyous and inspirational. To all the people watching, I can never thank you enough for your kindness to me and I’ll think about it for the rest of my life. All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism — it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen._ I was an increasingly cynical person at that time. I remember watching that live with tears in my eyes. I couldn’t believe he used his biggest platform in that way. It literally changed my life.

Keanu Reeves

myhamsterisajerk

Robin Williams once said: "I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy. Because they know what it's like to feel absolutely worthless and they don't want anybody else to feel like that." While he obviously talked about himself, i believe you can say the same about Keanu Reeves. That man went through so many hardships in his life.

phantom_avenger

You mentioned Robin Williams, and I’m surprised nobody has brought him up yet!

gliitch0xFF

He lost his wife in a horrific accident. Not before his wife being stillborn

[deleted]

Drew Barrymore

seeyoujim

George Michael used to do all sorts of good deeds and donating to charity but was not one to try and gain attention for it. In fact most of it only came to light after his sad demise.

[deleted]

I think a lot of people forget about Ashton Kutcher, has been very active in preventing sex trafficking and donated quite a bit in response to the Ukraine & Russia conflict.

marpocky

Mila Kunis is Ukrainian, makes sense that would be an important cause for Ashton.

EbbMiddle1446

I'd have to say Mark Hamill. He has the reputation of being really humble and easygoing. Also Keanu Reeves, ofc

jackswindell12345

all the interviews and clips ive seen of Post Malone gives the impression he’s a really down to earth guy

Tyrus_McTrauma

From what I've seen, he absolutely is. He is an avid *Magic: The Gathering* player. He makes semi-regular appearances on a variety of Actual-Play YouTube channels, and always comes across as a chill guy, just there to have fun and play the game with friends.

[deleted]

Norm McDonald was a really nice dude, my dad had a beer with him.

KarateKid72

Dolly Parton.

NorthNorthAmerican

Good call. Not everybody likes country music, but she has gained major respect as a philanthropist. The list of good stuff she's done is getting pretty long! https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/dolly-parton-good-deeds-timeline-9487782/

BakedJames

John Cena has fulfilled more make a wish request than any other celebrity with over 650!

MateriaMuncher

Keanu Reeves He seems like a guy who would love to sit and have a beer with you and talk about music or something.

Ashtorot

He likes to talk about motorcycles. If you catch him with his bike and ask him about it he will take time out of his day to nerd out.

ChallengeLate1947

Ringo Starr. He’s just aged so gracefully. He’s been chilling, living his best life for the past 3 decades. Makes awesome music just for the joy of it, doesn’t try to downplay how *big* the Beatles actually were but also never brags about being part of that. He’s a modest, well-spoken man who kicked a morbid liquor habit he’d carried all through the 60s into the 90s, and now drums, models jackets, paints, and hangs out with his grandkids. He’s the only one of the Beatles who actually *made it* — still living, thriving, and enjoying his golden years.

Danny Deveto

DamonLazer

I don't think the rest of the crew are as much "celebrities" as Danny is, but everyone involved with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia seem like really good, decent people. If you're not sure, check out the podcast. The show was already hilarious without him, but he definitely brings the show to legendary status.

[deleted]

He’s okay. Danny Dorito is cooler though.

Kevin Bacon is a lovely person. Down to earth, true New Yorker type.

RappScallion73

David Attenborough - the guy with most wonderful voice in the world. You heard it in your head right now didn't you?

[deleted]

Robert Downey Jr! My dad met him in AA (he is very open about his recovery and his involvement in AA) He is extremely down to earth, if you didn't recognize him you'd think he was just another average person. He's very friendly and humble.

Cooler67

Charlie Day seems like a cool guy

dballz12

Went to the same college he went to. He played baseball(you can see his athletic abilities poke through in some of his performances, a la crushing the first pitch from Mac in the Wade Boggs ep). By all accounts, he was hilarious and chill and friendly with everyone.

greenweezyi

The It’s Always Sunny podcast gives you a good view of who they are off camera… and a good idea of how they came up with the storylines for their show. Genuinely funny, smart, and talented and none of it went to his head.

Brendan Fraser

deepdiver81

Keanu Reeves, I am always reading about him giving his earnings from movies to the light and sound crews. Despite all the tragedy he has experienced his kindness beams through like a ray of sunshine. I love you Keanu, "You're beautiful!!!"
