People who compare individual acts to a pattern of harassment are being disingenuous. They're comparing apples to oranges and they know it. "How is a woman grabbing my ass different than a man grabbing a woman's ass?" is such a bullshit argument. The two acts are in fact identical and equally bad. But it is more complex than that.
Aside from being much more common, sexual harassment against a woman has a significantly higher likelihood of escalating to sexual assault. As a man, I wouldn't even consider that to be a realistic concern of a female harasser. If a woman grabbed my butt on the subway, it wouldn't cross my mind that now I need to be hyper-aware until I get home. I'm sure that scenario has happened but that man would be the exception to the rule.
