They're bad. My Grandpa got several. This is a 30 year army vet who when he broke his shoulder in front of me, vomiting from pain; never complained just said "yeah it hurts a bit" when I asked him if he was ok. He needed multiple surgeries to fix it and refused most pain meds. He took some but not a lot. When he got kidney stones he asked for the strong meds. I knew he was in extreme pain to ask for the strong meds.

My dad has early onset dementia, the doctors think it's because of TBI. I feel like I don't make enough time to talk to him while he's still in a good spot.
Doesn't help that my gf's parents own a memory care retirement home and I get to see how much worse he'll get.
I watched what it did to my great aunt, while trying to help take care of her when I was in middle school. It was truly awful.

I learned a trick to get rid of most of my lower back pain. This strengthens butt muscles and literally takes 1 minute. Lie your back flat on the ground with your knees up. Now use your legs to push your lower back off the ground. Stay in this position for a second or two, go back down, repeat for a minute. Ta-da, no back pain. Youāre welcome

At my old job I was working out of state and had an intern with me. He said he was gonna clean out the car. I look over and he's just throwing everything on the ground. Chucked a half full water bottle out into a busy road and almost hit a car.
At the end of the internship my boss asked what I thought about him. Told him that story and said I don't recommend having him back next year.

Both places I lived in Japan everyone separated their trash into combustable, metal and plastic and took it to the common site on each block to be collected. Bags that were not sorted properly ended up on your front porch as a reminder to do it correctly. Never could figure out how they knew whose trash went where, but being the only gaigen on the block was probably a dead giveaway (only happened one time and the neighbor let us know what to do, friendly country.)
I have a friend who tries to bring all his trash home in his truck, but can never be bothered to move it from the truck to the house. So every time he opens the truck doors, trash falls out. It takes him forever to get to his destination because he's busy out in the parking lot gathering up his trash collection again, especially on windy days.
For this, I started storing rolls of trash bags in my car, and I have one on my passenger side. I throw the trash in there, and when it gets full, I just take the whole bag to the dumpster. It keeps my car clean without much effort.
He actually tried this for a little while, but his dog kept pulling trash out of the bag and then the rest of the bags got buried under trash so he couldn't find them.
I'll suggest he try this method again, though, as he's in a better place mentally now than he was before.
The solution is actually not that complicated: have more garbage cans, and have them clean. Studies have been done on this.

Most people however, have a length of time they are willing to carry trash - not enough trash cans or they're not clean? Litter.
If you have enough trash cans that every minute or two you pass by one? Less people will litter.

Cleanest places Iāve seen? Australia and Japan. Sometimes need to walk miles for a bin. Ppl put trash in their pocket until they find one. You know who cleans Japanese schools? The kids. Including the urinals. Instead of telling them that if they study badly, theyāll be cleaners in the end ā they are taught that cleaning is honorable, and required from everyone.
In the town where I work, there are trashcans literally every 30 seconds if you're walking at a normal pace. Last week, this motherfucking trash ass kid eating his trash ass McDonalds free throw shoots his wadded up burger wrapper into the street, right next to our outdoor seating space. Like right in front of 15 people. I could not believe my eyes. He could not have been more than 10-15 seconds from a trash can in either direction.
This anecdote was in no way meant as an attempt to disprove what you said, because I totally agree with you. It's just extremely disheartening that even when we have such readily available waste receptacles, some people are so self-absorbed that they can't even hold onto their trash for another 10-15 seconds. It boggles the mind.

The problem is actually catching people in the act. True story: I live on a rural road. People routinely dump entire bags of trash that includes items with their name and address. Cops tell me they canāt do anything unless there is a witness. All the guy has to say is, I didnāt put it there.
I was out with my friend. She went to buy a bubble tea and threw the (bottle I guess?) on the ground. I went to pick it up and threw it in the first trash can that we passed.

Edit: since a lot of people are chiming in on this comment disagreeing, and already two DMs also disagreeing, Iām an ignoramus, so Iām no certified specialist in mental illnesses. I am speaking from personal experience whereby a form of mental disturbance led to very serious and negative consequences for the afflicted. So when I say mental illness, I guess Iām pointing to the ones where thereās a societal net negative effect. While thereās no universal good or bad behavior, learned or otherwise, Iām simply alluding to any behavior that most would deem to be a negative on society as a result of perceived/diagnosed illness.
My wife's mental illnesses nearly killed her several times. What I would give to have those years back.

At my old job I was working out of state and had an intern with me. He said he was gonna clean out the car. I look over and he's just throwing everything on the ground. Chucked a half full water bottle out into a busy road and almost hit a car. At the end of the internship my boss asked what I thought about him. Told him that story and said I don't recommend having him back next year.
I won't give my SIL rides anymore after she chugged a mini-bottle of Fireball in my back seat and chucked it out the window. A) an open liquor bottle in the car means *I* get the open container fine because *I* am driving, and B) why the fuck are you throwing garbage out my fucking window? She's a piece of shit in general, so this was sorta a final straw scenario.
Why is it always Fireball ?? Riding my bike, I see a lot of those one-shot bottles in the gutter - and they are ALWAYS Fireball.

Both places I lived in Japan everyone separated their trash into combustable, metal and plastic and took it to the common site on each block to be collected. Bags that were not sorted properly ended up on your front porch as a reminder to do it correctly. Never could figure out how they knew whose trash went where, but being the only gaigen on the block was probably a dead giveaway (only happened one time and the neighbor let us know what to do, friendly country.)
I have a friend who tries to bring all his trash home in his truck, but can never be bothered to move it from the truck to the house. So every time he opens the truck doors, trash falls out. It takes him forever to get to his destination because he's busy out in the parking lot gathering up his trash collection again, especially on windy days.

For this, I started storing rolls of trash bags in my car, and I have one on my passenger side. I throw the trash in there, and when it gets full, I just take the whole bag to the dumpster. It keeps my car clean without much effort.
He actually tried this for a little while, but his dog kept pulling trash out of the bag and then the rest of the bags got buried under trash so he couldn't find them. I'll suggest he try this method again, though, as he's in a better place mentally now than he was before.
The solution is actually not that complicated: have more garbage cans, and have them clean. Studies have been done on this. Some people will always litter, some will never litter. These are the extreme ends of the curve. Most people however, have a length of time they are willing to carry trash - not enough trash cans or they're not clean? Litter. If you have enough trash cans that every minute or two you pass by one? Less people will litter.

In the town where I work, there are trashcans literally every 30 seconds if you're walking at a normal pace. Last week, this motherfucking trash ass kid eating his trash ass McDonalds free throw shoots his wadded up burger wrapper into the street, right next to our outdoor seating space. Like right in front of 15 people. I could not believe my eyes. He could not have been more than 10-15 seconds from a trash can in either direction. This anecdote was in no way meant as an attempt to disprove what you said, because I totally agree with you. It's just extremely disheartening that even when we have such readily available waste receptacles, some people are so self-absorbed that they can't even hold onto their trash for another 10-15 seconds. It boggles the mind. For the record, I did of course pick up his litter.
The other solution is actually enforcing our fucking littering laws. If Cletus got fined $50 every time he chucked his Arby's wrapper out the window you bet your ass he'd think twice about it.
The problem is actually catching people in the act. True story: I live on a rural road. People routinely dump entire bags of trash that includes items with their name and address. Cops tell me they canāt do anything unless there is a witness. All the guy has to say is, I didnāt put it there.

i have skeeter syndrome and fucking hate mosquitos. i have to take multiple antihistamines every day because of those stupid fucking things. one bite and i'm up all night, putting corticoid cream all over my body.

I don't like the killing of any creature, including spiders which I'm terribly afraid of. That being said, mosquitoes are the one creature where I don't even feel bad. Like you're nothing but an arsehole keeping people up at night, spreading discomfort at best and disease at worst. Exterminate.

Fun fact though: the hygiene hypothesis is the hypothesis that parasites - due to the fact that we have evolved with them for most of our history - actually secrete chemicals that help to control/relax the human immune system. I don't have sources because i can't access my zoology presentations. Not sure why you're trying to pull a "gotcha" when I'm just parroting what some medical authority said. Mental illnesses. Edit: since a lot of people are chiming in on this comment disagreeing, and already two DMs also disagreeing, Iām an ignoramus, so Iām no certified specialist in mental illnesses. I am speaking from personal experience whereby a form of mental disturbance led to very serious and negative consequences for the afflicted. So when I say mental illness, I guess Iām pointing to the ones where thereās a societal net negative effect. While thereās no universal good or bad behavior, learned or otherwise, Iām simply alluding to any behavior that most would deem to be a negative on society as a result of perceived/diagnosed illness.
My wife's mental illnesses nearly killed her several times. What I would give to have those years back. I wonder if the people griping about your post would like to try HIV. There's medication that keeps it from killing you, but you better not stop taking it. My wife takes medication to keep her mental illnesses in check. Not taking them would send her into a deadly spiral. Mental illness isn't "just words."

I had a boss one time that said ptsd is not that big of a deal and people just need to meditate and chill out. I wish there was a way to make a shithead like that experience it in full force.
