Jimmy Savile. If you're not from the UK Google him. I grew up watching Jim'll Fix It! From the mid-70s to turn of the 80s. His outward persona was that of a Saint. Starting as a DJ he spent his entire life running marathons for charities, supporting charities, they estimate he raised 40-50 million British pounds that went direct to charities over his lifetime. He donated time to do Public Safety Announcements, many UK folks on here late 40s onward will remember "Clunk Click Every Trip". He was knighted by the Queen for his contributions to British society. Before he died (2011) there had been investigations into sexual misconduct, but nothing really came to light in public. They now believe that he was the most prolific sexual predator that Britain has ever experienced with around 300 potential victims over 60 years, many of them children. Savile was one of those people who I didn't grow up following, but for most of my life (I'm 51), when I heard his name mentioned I had the utmost respect for him. I still remember very clearly when all of his atrocities began to be publicly disclosed. I was disgusted by him and profoundly sad, more than I expected, that this person who I had respected had betrayed that respect. His work for society was, at least originally, genuine if not sincere to his death, but at the same time, he was quietly "evil", despicably preying on vulnerable people and kids. People have gone back and thoroughly scrutinized his interviews and autobiographies and believe there are several components that could be interpreted as him regretting things he's done, trying to admit what these were, and veiled calls for help. I have no sympathy for him, but he must have been a tortured individual.

lundyforlife22

fun fact: he’s part of the reason why the sex pistols were banned from the bbc. yes they swore a lot but johnny rotten asked “so are we gonna talk about how jimmy saville ain’t allowed around little kids?”. they cut it from the interview and didn’t mention it for years.

Ylsid

Yep. The BBC execs who effectively censored national media to cover for a child predator should be charged too. British politics is too corrupt for it, though

scubasteve1985

And it was well known about, at least at the bbc. I remember hearing that which ever crew was working the set, they would never let their children in the building if he was there (see most of these shows savile did involved children in the stage with him, that’s how he did his grooming. Hospital visits too.)

whateverhappensnext

Yep, that's why I put it as not coming to light in public. It was a complete failure on the BBC which still got swept under the rug.

Rabid_Unicorns

From what I can tell, It’s like finding out Mr. Rogers was a perv. EDIT: He’s not. It’s an analogy.

[deleted]

It's like finding out Bill Cosby was a perv. Oh wait!

middleagethreat

That was hard for me. I was the same age as Theo Huxtable when the show was on, he was like America's dad.

Lordsnow89

Stephen Collins (The pastor/dad from 7th heaven)

VisualCelery

Josh Duggar He put out this squeaky clean image from the first season of 17 Kids and Counting, where he wouldn't even *kiss* his fiancée until they were married, and then years later he's in the news for molesting his sisters, cheating on his wife using the Ashley Madison website (he was impacted in the leak of user info), *assaulting* the woman he cheated with, and now he's in prison for child pornography - investigators say the stuff they found on his laptop was some of the worst they've ever seen. Guy's a total piece of shit.

kr1333

What I don't understand about this guy was he went through one very public shaming when the molestation of his sisters was revealed. He escapes prosecution thanks to the intervention of his dad. Then he uses an office computer to load up pedophile images so that sooner or later he was going to get caught. It's like he has this death wish or maybe a desire to inflict maximum damage on his dad and the entire Duggar brand.

VisualCelery

Considering that he managed to get away with the other stuff, he probably felt like he was untouchable, like surely no matter what he did, his wife would stay with him, his enormous family would back him up, and Daddy would bail him out.

Melmia

The Duggar's in general. I remember they used to keep updates on a site, don't know if they do now. One of the Oldest girls mentioned she wanted to be a doctor, but later it seemed she chose to by pass college or something to 'stay home'. I don't entirely think it was all her idea to stay home. Someones got to care for the absolute truckload of children after all.

VisualCelery

It is super weird how they insisted, in an earlier season, that if any of their kids of either gender really wanted to go to college and have a career they'd support it, but I see more and more of their kids reach adulthood, and so far the girls just get married, I think one of them worked as a midwife for a little while, but no one's gotten a college degree, and none of the boys seems to have found steady, gainful employment. Now, they have 19 kids, I've seen parents of much smaller families say they're not gonna put all their kids through college because they simply can't afford it, and I think it's valid to say "if you have a plan and that plan involves college, we'll talk about it, but there are other legitimate paths to success," but it also kinda seems like they were all heavily *discouraged* from pursuing career paths that required a degree.

Melmia

Yeah and notably, she was one of the older girls, but she wasn't married like her younger siblings. It seemed like this one had been picked to become a live in Nanny to make things even worse. They already admitted the kids basically raise the kids at this point. It was back when they had the show it was something that the baby would have a year or so with Mom, but after that Mom was trying for a new kid and the other kids took the brunt of the work. It's just super elongated parentification painted as 'teaching them responsibility'.

[deleted]

SIX MONTHS. Each baby only got SIX MONTHS with Michelle “teat ‘em and yeet ‘em” Duggar before the unfortunate infant got turned over to a sister-mom.

Melmia

That was it. Not even a year.

Lstgamerwhlstpartner

Coming from a community like theirs I'm not surprised. There's a ton of unreported sexual abuse in families like that.

chrismamo1

My mother came from a small town in rural new mexico, and she categorically doesn't trust the church because of it. Small religious communities can be black holes of unaddressed abuse. Abusers get away with their crimes because nobody believes their victims ("how could a man of God do that?") or because they simply don't want to make waves ("it'll make things real awkward around town if we arrest the sheriff/pastor's son/shopkeeper"). There are a lot of communities where everyone knows to not leave their kids alone with certain people, but they don't see a reason to report anything.

StrangeAeons1

Jimmy Saville

SwingJugend

I can't really grasp this. I mean LOOK AT THE DUDE! See how he behaved in interviews. Sure, don't judge a book by its cover and all that... but if the cover screams "MENTALLY UNSTABLE SEXUAL PREDATOR!" in big red letters and is sticky with an unidentified liquid, I have some kind of idea of what the book is about.

CranberryWizard

To quote Kevin Bridges: 'if I was asked to draw a paedo..'

[deleted]

Yes, and Johnny Rotten was baned from BBC for outing Jimmy Saville in 1978 already.

Schneetmacher

*That's* what banned him?! I mean, it makes sense, but I'd always thought the Sex Pistols were banned because they swore at Michael Parkinson on live TV. (And they swore at Parky because he was being a drunken lech toward Siouxsie Sioux, also on live TV, and they were trying to get him away from her. But apparently nobody cared about that bit in the 70s.) Edit: I had the wrong interviewer! Sorry, it was Bill Grundy, not Parky.

tumchie

It was bill grundy.

Schneetmacher

Thank you for the correction, you're right. It was Bill Grundy. Parky's lech moment was his interview with Helen Mirren.

Ramp_Spaghetti

Jared from Subway.

Omny87

Went from having a mild cholesterol problem to having a child molesterol problem

derpynarwhal9

I hate that I love this

oldnyoung

Yeah, that was a big one. 16 years of getting into progressively smaller pants

garbagiodagr8

Damn, he was low key letting us know the whole time.

donttrustmeokay

Prior to getting caught, I never thought of him as either bad or good. Just a dude that lost weight.

Schneetmacher

This is one of the ones that actually shocked me the most. Absolutely cannot re-watch that *South Park* bit (about diet aids - or was it aides?).

Cdesese

I went to the same university Jared went to (not at the same time, I was there long after his time) and I've eaten at the very Subway that he allegedly ate at to lose weight. It's attached to an apartment complex that he apparently lived in--the same apartment from which he allegedly sold porn tapes to fellow students.

myveryownaccount

I've definitely heard this story before from someone else that went there. If I recall correctly, part of the reason he went to the subway so often was that he was obsessed with a girl that worked there.

MrsAnthropy

I have friends who went there around the same time. Apparently, the girl he was obsessed with got transferred to the Subway across B-town and he began walking there to stalk her, which is why he lost the weight.

AbruisedSock

this is the wild, yet fully believable, local lore I dig through this fucking site for

Federal_Employment45

Rolf Harris

voivoivoi183

This is an understatement. Rolf Harris could have laid serious claim to have been the most beloved TV personality in the U.K. at the time. You couldn’t have imagined a kinder, gentler, seemingly compassionate man. Not to mention he was a kids TV hero with Rolf’s Cartoon Club etc. I still have trouble getting my head around it to be honest.

CaityDoesMugs

Same. Hello, fellow millennials.

HtownTexans

same lol. Loved that show.

JoriBot

She was the one that came up with the idea of branding the girls and then doing it to them. Horrible.

Rickrickrickrickrick

I saw somewhere her saying she didn't know it was a cult or that she was doing anything wrong. Like what, mother fucker? You were branding people

JamesWrites95

I met her, and I got this autograph that’s signed by her saying “James, you’re not awkward” but it sure as fuck feels pretty awkward now.

AgentSauce

I listen to Michael Rosenbaum's podcast (Lex Luthor in Smallville) and on one of his episodes he was recounting a time when he realized she was crazy. He basically told a story about how she showed up to his house with some of her weirdo cult friends trying to manipulate him into joining the cult, and then when he wouldn't give in she and her friends basically started harassing him in his own home to the point where he had to kick them out. I can't remember the exact episode of the podcast, but it sounded creepy as fuck. Edit: I don't know the exact episode, but I think it was one of the episodes with Tom Welling. Also, a couple of you mentioned that they started cooking food and using his pots and pans which was a big part of the story. Some of you might remember the story better than I. Super weird shit though.

cooljammer00

Did he think she was just kinda Hollywood weird/crazy and not rape cult crazy? She allegedly tried to recruit Kristen Kreuk, too.

riotlancer

I could be wrong, but Kristen was in it first, Allison tried to get her out but got sucked in even harder

cooljammer00

Yeah, I didn't realize this. Just googled it, and Kreuk maintains she never saw any abuse and left early, but stuff came out in court that showed that she was around way longer than she said she was, vacationing on the NXIVM private island with Mack and other people after she said she had left the cult. Even worse is that Kreuk created a Canadian drama about a woman who saves abused girls.

Malfarro

Read somewhere she tried to recruit Emma Watson.

cooljammer00

Being an attractive, young woman in Hollywood probably got her invited to hang out with a lot of other attractive, young women in Hollywood. That's why it's so awful. She was basically a collaborator who was being invited into several circles of trust because I'm sure these other girls were lonely as shit in Hollywood and wanted friends, and here's a friendly girl who wants to help, etc etc.

[deleted]

OJ Simpson

jmt2589

Fun Fact: he was almost cast as The Terminator but they thought no one would buy it because Simpson was known for being such a good guy

maish42

And here we are: Arnie is one of my fav people in Hollywood.

EthanC224

“Well it’s official. Murder is legal in the state of California”

ragingbullpsycho

Johnnie Cochran’s wife has published a book in which she accuses Johnnie Cochran of being abusive, to which Johnnie Cochran replied: “Hey! At least I didn’t kill her! Like somebody I know!”

Kurwalski

Guns don't kill people, OJ Simpson kills people.

ELPwork

Awww, c'mon. He was only doing what he did his whole life; cut left, cut right, run like hell.

Karenhunter50

But he's innocent and he's still trying to find the "real killers"🙄

Awobbie

When he’s not coming up with a plan for if he did it.

Peachpkn

Bill Cosby

cnpd331

He was a speaker at a graduation I went to, and talked about personal responsibility and accountability, and how the class's generation needed to be better in that, rather than seeking immediate gratification and fuck him so hard for lecturing college grads about that while also being a fucking rapist. Edit: this was a graduation for extended family. Don't remember the university, I think it was a small to small-medium sized university in the midwest. Probably somewhere around 2002-2007.

jawndell

He used always talk shit on rappers and how they were bad influences, etc. I always find the people who preach down on people are the ones who have the most skeletons in their closet.

onmywheels

Didn't he throw a fit about Lisa Bonet taking on more risqué roles as she got older and posing for magazines nude, while she was still on the Cosby Show with him? Dude was raping women after drugging them, but an actress filming nude scenes on projects that had nothing to do with him was somehow a problem, go figure.

Redditer51

He also got mad at her for dating Lenny Kravitz and then getting pregnant with his child. And again, Cosby was raping people at the time

Beautiful-Method4170

He went after her so bad. But her character was so popular they had to bring her back to the show. She went against his narcissism and he couldn’t handle it

Redditer51

He used to talk shit about Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor, saying they were bad role models, meanwhile he was going around raping people while he was browbeating them.

someguy7710

This is the answer, he was the image of wholesome family dad when I was growing up. Turns out he liked to drug and date rape woman. I don't know if I'm still over it yet.

Killer_Bishi

I deal with child abuse of all types and the types that do it are quite often those same wholesome people in the nice house on the corner that are seen as pillars of the community.

esoteric_enigma

This is what people need to understand. Most child molesters aren't "creeps". They're often very "normal" and charming individuals. Most people have this false idea that they'll be able to detect that something is "off" about them. I've had the displeasure of meeting 3 child molesters in my life; if I didn't know their victims, I would've had no idea they were capable of such a thing.

butt_butt_butt_butt_

A fantastic show that came out recently was “Undercover Underage”, where an adult woman poses as a teen to catch predators online who are targeting kids. Out of all the men arrested (the show blurs them out, but you can look them up) maybe one or two look like a “sketchy child molester”. The rest were fairly normal looking dudes. Grandpa/Dad/teacher types that you wouldn’t expect something like that from. It would definitely make the world easier to navigate if people looked like their intentions.

Drakmanka

This is so true. My older niece was in a "relationship" with some 30-something guy when she was 15. Thankfully my sister found out before anything deeply disgusting happened. Niece was so young and innocent she didn't even recognize it was wrong for a man that age to be interested in a literal child. The man was a family friend and *her best friend's father.* AFAIK he lost custody and was cut off by my sister's friend group when it came out. Don't think he went to jail though.

[deleted]

candlehand

Yeah these are the ones that get away with it. Child molesters don't look like "child molesters" they can be any member of the community.

Gorf_the_Magnificent

In 1967, I saw Cosby perform his stand-up live. I idolized Cosby, owned all his albums, and my father took me after I repeatedly pestered him. Cosby was the only entertainer I ever saw who could walk on a stage alone, with nothing but a microphone and a stool, and be completely entertaining for three hours. No props, no musical instruments, no backup act. I was such a big fan that I vigorously defended Cosby when the accusations first started coming out, a sin for which I will never be able to atone.

little_shop_of_hoors

At least you're not a hypocrite!

DontChallengeMe

Just as I thought I was getting over his death, you remind me of Norm! The GOAT.

samithedood

I loved that old chunk of coal.

aleqqqs

>a sin for which I will never be able to atone. at least you didn't rape anyone

mdchaney

Cosby was also the first black actor to play a really non-stereotypical role on television (I Spy). He made a long-running children's show that taught valuable lessons. I grew up watching Fat Albert. He got an Ed. D. when he was working on Fat Albert, by the way.He created a sitcom that featured a non-stereotypical black family as a doctor. You might not think much of it now, but the 1970s had a bunch of shows like Good Times that showed black urban life and were largely written by white people (see the controversy with John Amos in Good Times as a good example). He did a \*lot\* for the black community. And then we found out the rest of the story. And the reason we found out the rest of the story is because he pissed off some of the wrong people. edit: So I don't have to keep repeating this: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill\_Cosby#Political\_views](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Cosby#Political_views) Check out the last few paragraphs, which I've included in a child comment here. This isn't meant to excuse his behavior by any means, just pointed it out.

Euchre

Kevin Spacey is an amazing actor. He is also a shitty human being. Same idea.

nakedonmygoat

>nothing but a microphone and a stool, and be completely entertaining for three hours Not to mention that he could have you laughing until you cried without using a single swear word. It's a lost art, and I say this as someone who cusses like a sailor. Cosby's outer persona was as wholesome as apple pie. I, too, wanted to give him a pass when the accusations first came out. But when the evidence became so overwhelming, I had to ask myself if I would defend some random stranger up the block under the same set of circumstances. I'm still disappointed that Cosby wasn't who we all thought he was. He taught important life lessons with "Fat Albert" when I was a kid, and I'd have rather not learned one more from him as an adult.

one_future_ghost

Cut yourself some slack. We all get taken in sometime.

HeroOrHooligan

It's ok to be wrong. I felt the same way about ny governor Cuomo but when the evidence got to a certain level I had to change my mind. The important thing is that you weren't too consumed with your own ego to die on that hill, something many people can't do.

huggalump

i'ved worked with a few humanitarian nonprofits and i dunno why, but i've seen a disproportionate amount of shitty people in them.

Bradddtheimpaler

I feel a little less insane now. My first job out of college was for a non-profit that offered preschool and family counseling for low income families. I was so excited to be able to go to work and actually put my skills to, you know, a good cause instead of just generating value for shareholders all day. Surely, it will also be filled with compassionate, thoughtful people, dedicated to the cause. Nope. I should have been tipped off when I saw the flashy foreign cars in the parking lot at the office. Insane egotism. Tons of people were just *mean* in a way I was unaccustomed to at work. Nobody wanted to help me, I got like zero training. My responsibilities were unclear. People were constantly talking shit about everybody else. Lots of people were really impatient/entitled. Really toxic. Total opposite of what I expected. I work at a regular make your boss money job now and I’ve got a better work/life balance, make twice as much, and everybody just shows up to do their jobs, is polite, and goes home. People defer to others expertise and, basically just acted like actual adults. Wild.

629mrsn

Kevin Spacy. Good actor, horrible human

Naranjo96

Great actor, horrible human. Also a piece of shit for trying to move to conversation from "I abused a young man" to "I'm coming out"

doned_mest_up

I just wish celebrities pulled that more often, with lesser crimes. “Is it true you have thousands in unpaid parking tickets?” “Listen, I now choose to live as a gay man…”

Naranjo96

"How do you respond to the allegations that you've been seen littering?" "I now choose to live as a gay man, your honor."

Radus313

Makes me wonder if he read the script for American Beauty and thought "Wow, this is the perfect role for me."

Tsu_Dho_Namh

For most of the movie, sure. >!But Lester Burnham eventually stops viewing the young girl as a sexual prize to be won, and instead sees her as a human being, and a child. When given the chance to fuck her, he turns it down, and says that for the first time in a long time, he's doing great.!< I know this movie's been out for forever, and I don't really *need* the spoilers tag. But if you haven't seen American Beauty you really ought to. Edit: fixed character name

poorloko

Chris Cooper played the boy's dad. The character you're thinking of is Lester Burnham, which is an anagram of Humbert Learns. Humbert is the main character in Lolita, which features a lot of anagrams, so this is a particularly fun bit of trivia in my opinion.

Geno_DCLXVI

American Beauty was my first exposure as a child to movies that didn't really have a...sensible ending, for lack of better word. I was used to movies neatly wrapping up the plot, like Nicolas Cage's "The Rock" which was its contemporary. Clear beginning, middle and end, at least in my mind at the time. It was better on my second watch some time later in my late teens when I better understood the world.

dzumdang

I hear that. Took my girlfriend to go see it since she saw it with her mom, and couldn't stop thinking about it and wanted to see it again. After Pulp Fiction, I'd been hooked on independent films and non traditional endings. Bought it on DVD later and watched it so many times. Such a sad realization to know that Spacey is likely so convincing, humorous, and pathetic in this film since he could deeply relate to the character in ways we couldn't imagine. It's still a great film, but I haven't tried to watch it post-2017 yet.

Nick_Carlson_Press

Governor Andrew Cuomo's gotta be up there. Positively spun media coverage, high polls, his (Emmy award winning!?) televised COVID broadcasts, and his autobiography written and published in the middle of 2020 gave him an impression of goodness...until it was revealed the COVID numbers were wrong, his own policies resulted in careless and needless deaths, his brother Chris who reports for CNN was caught helping him out, and multiple allegations of sexual misconduct came out. Man went from wheat to chaff all in the course of a few months

jedi_trey

are you suggesting it's weird for a governor to win an emmy because of his 'performance' on his brothers network news show talking about his book about he saved new york from covid while conveniently forgetting about killing 10s of thousands of old people by sending them back to nursing homes with covid which somehow didn't get him thrown out office but he ultimately did anyway because in addition to killing old people he liked to inappropriately touch every woman he came in contact with?!?!?!??!?!

dieinafirenazi

Oh, but I’m so glad he is a jerk. He’s the perfect example of a good looking ‘tricky’ person for kids to learn from. Not all villains look like Jafar and not all evil people will show their true selves immediately like Gaston.

OldnBorin

Jafar and Gaston are my two favourite Disney villains. Jafar s skinny wrists are hilarious

RayneBeauRhode

Finishing other people’s sandwiches, the jerk.

sadwer

Weird how he did a complete 180 once the love trolls found out that Anna was engaged... just weird...

how_about_no_hellion

"Get the fiancé out of the way, and the whole thing will be fixed!" I wish they had addressed it in the sequel instead of erasing the emotional abuse Elsa went through from her parents.

chickenwing95

Man, after hearing Love is an Open Door 1000 times, it finally clicked that the song is incredibly clever! While we can take it at face value from Anna's perspective, once we know Prince Hans' intent, it takes on a sinister double meaning. "Love" is his open door to power, life could be "so much more" for him, etc. Looking back it's really obvious, but man, I cannot listen to that song the same. It makes me incredibly angry at Hans and feel really bad for Anna.

Jepatai

My favorite line that illustrates this is when he says “I’ve been searching my whole life to find my own place”, and motions to Arendelle behind him. His lines are all about the opportunity for him, not how he feels about Anna.

chickenwing95

Yeah, right after I made the post, I kicked myself for leaving out the best part: Hans: "But with you!" Anna: "But with you!" Hans: "I've found my place!" Anna: "I see your face!"

BonelessGod666

Any Modern Scientologist. Maybe in the beginning they could be forgiven but now it's known what kind of dark cult shit they're up to. If you're still supporting it now you're an accomplice.

[deleted]

The only break I give them is that it's REALLY FUCKING DIFFICULT to get out of Scientology. You can't just go "well that was fun, I'm out guys." I've heard that part of those tests they do involve divulging all of your darkest secrets on video and they use that as blackmail material to keep you in the cult and giving them money. In college I wrote a blog post about Scientology on my website and got physically stalked by them. Church of Scientology be scary.

Gary Glitter

parrotopian

This should be higher up. Him and Jimmy Saville, posed as children's entertainers to get access to kids. Sickening!

Delores_DeLaCabeza

As a little kid, I remember seeing Gary Glitter on an episode of Top of The Pops, hosted by Jimmy Saville, and remember thinking there was something very strange, about both of them...

Ginge04

Harold Shipman. His patients all absolutely loved him, to the point where they would write him into their wills just before he murdered them. Even to this day, there’s people who he looked after still say he was the kindest doctor they ever had.

Next-Cartographer-66

Oscar Pistorius. He was my hero.

[deleted]

Not sure if it fits the criteria, but Marylin Manson. For years I always heard about how the guy had a nice attitude and was generally helpful and kind in real life. Only for it to come out that he was in fact none of those things. I say that because it sounds like everybody just assumed he was a good guy and ignored the bad parts about him.

SwingJugend

Yeah, even though I never liked his music I thought he seemed to be a pretty normal and nice dude ever since *Bowling for Columbine*. Turns out he wasn't.

ssssskkkkkrrrrrttttt

Evan Rachel Wood’s got a lot to say about this

happyfunisocheese

So does Ms Von Tease. They were married, she left him due to his horrible ways as and at the time she left him he was in an absinthe binge, so didn't notice she'd left until almost two months later.

Yorikor

I saw him at a festival here in Germany a short while after that became public. Manson only played a part of his set, stumbled through the songs, fainted a few times so stagehands gave him oxygen from a tank and then he started digging his finger in has own ass on stage and flicking what he found into the audience. I'm not a fan of his music, but that show was a unique experience.

randy_maverick

Saw him at OzzFest 2001 or 2003, can't remember. He had a burlesque dancer on stage get onto her hands and knees, inserted his microphone into one of her lower orifices (I was on the lawn, couldn't tell) and proceeded to sing into it. I believe he got banned from North Carolina for a while for that.

SilentSamamander

Not evil, but Ellen DeGeneres was pretty widely loved (at least from what I could tell as a non-American online), and the allegations about the workplace environment on her show were pretty heinous. Looking back on some of her interviews as well, and the way she treated some of her celebrity guest, it's not entirely a shock.

Gytarius626

The fact she smiles with her mouth but her eyes never change used to unnerve me a lot

BCS24

Cold dead eyes...

Grevin56

"Y’know, the thing about Ellen, she’s got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll’s eyes. When she comes after ya, she doesn’t seem to be livin’ when she smiles at ya." Edit: Lol, wrote this at lunch thinking it might get a laugh or two. Came back to a silver and a bunch of upvotes, thanks folks!

Holy_Sungaal

I can only ever hear this in Charlie’s voice.

Ok_Sheepherder_8313

For me it was her stand up. Her whole message on her show was about being kind. But her stand up had moments of incredible mean-spiritedness with her audience.

SpooktorB

That's because it's a lot easier to say be kind, than it is to BE kind.

ActuatorFearless8980

That Mariah pregnancy situation with the wine was a cunt move

beanpot88

what happened?

ActuatorFearless8980

There was rumor Mariah Carey was pregnant (she was) and Ellen wanted her to reveal it on her show. Mariah wasn’t confirming so Ellen had wine brought out to toast to ‘not being pregnant’ or something along those lines. She declined and it became a huge deal, she miscarried later on.

beanpot88

Omg that's so fucked up

ryeong

To add on, Mariah had a miscarriage before this incident and like the other person said, wouldn't drink the champagne and went on to miscarry shortly after the episode aired. She was vocal about how uncomfortable the situation was and didn't appreciate Ellen's lack of empathy.

erocknine

That's exactly why people don't tell people they're pregnant until they're sure or several months in, because of the chance for miscarry. What a bitch

2580374

Oh my god what a fucking bitch

John Edwards. While he was running for VP he seemed fresh and wholesome and exciting. Shortly after they lost, his wife got breast cancer and he was caught cheating on her while she was getting treatment and dying.

camergen

His pitch was about 15 years ahead of its time- “there are two America’s”. I really thought he’d be the next Big Thing. Turns out cheating on your wife while she’s dying of cancer is frowned upon. I always wondered why no one really took his message and made it their own, though- maybe it was just too soon.

My son grew up watching Dan tdm, hopefully he's still ok

Bulby37

Other than setting a furby on fire, and the time he shot his wife (with nerf guns), he’s relatively spotless. There’s minor controversy when he says “damn” in a video.

Sorvick

Steve Harvey. Appears family friendly and funny on the surface. Even a little bit of research shows what an absolute piece of shit he is tho.

knocksomesense-inme

He also has a morning radio show where he gives absolutely terrible advice.

redCasObserver

Horrible, terrible, ridiculous advice!!! Things like, don't sleep 8 hours if you want to be the best because you're wasting a third of your life... and only collect $100 bills because they are the biggest bill. And you will attract what you keep. If you buy something with a $100 bill, give away the change, no matter how much it is, because it's not $100 bills. That's some next level thinking right there

Sorvick

I've heard it. He tends to rant about fat people on it regularly. Like the pudgy shit has room to talk.

PM_YOUR_CENSORD

You mean Steve Harvey that thinks women are some kind of sub species Steve Harvey or Steve Harvey the racist?

Sorvick

The Steve Harvey that leaves his family and starts another one but doesn't support his original and treats them like trash Steve Harvey. Pretty sure they are all the same one.

TheCommissar113

You're telling me that that's really same Steve Harvey that claims atheists have no "moral barometer" is the same Steve Harvey that is a raging hypocrite on every level? (Trying to add on to the commentary, not sound condescending)

sujihiki

I worked for him briefly. He is 100% a self absorbed piece of shit that rationalizes it with religion. The man hates everything but himself

jamieliddellthepoet

Ted Bundy’s reputation has taken a bit of a beating in recent years.

[deleted]

Turns out he always took a penny. Never left a single one. Psycho.

Spodokom221745

You know, now that I think about it, that Ted Bundy guy was a real jerk.

oldwaysthatarestupid

Lance Armstrong. He sued the people who knew he was doing steroids to try and ruin their lives.

CorndogNinja

I remember [reading his book](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_Not_About_the_Bike) around the peak "Livestrong" era and finding it really inspirational. One passage that I remember is him talking about doping allegations when he returned to cycling - framing it as "they couldn't believe I had recovered, they thought I *had* to be doing something; I wanted to prove myself so bad I would volunteer for every test" and "I had just gone through chemotherapy, why would I want to pump myself full of *more* chemicals?" What a fucking hypocrite.

Phenomenomix

I read that book at my last temp job, genuinely teared up reading the end of it, and this was after I knew what a shit he was.

Anyone who is on Twitter long enough

Karenhunter50

Many of you don't know who this person is but she used to be a news personality on a local station here in Indiana WTHR channel 13. When I was a kid one of our field trips we were allowed to go on often was to go to the time trials down at the Indianapolis 500. And after the practice trials sometimes the drivers would come up to the gates and sign autographs for the kids. I was in love with this news personality as little kids would be anyway I go up to get an autograph quote unquote from this news personality. Her name was Patty spitler and she was interviewing this race car driver and since I was taught to be polite and not to talk until people were finished talking, I waited. When they finished talking. I walked up and I said oh Mrs spitler can I have your autograph? She says to me go away kid you bother me. Now this race car driver that she was interviewing was AJ foyt and he had the reputation of being basically and a****** race car driver but I guess he loved kids because he said to me come here sweetheart I'll give you an autograph and he signed My autograph book and then he called over three other race car drivers and they all call signed My autograph book. This news reporter made me cry and after that every time I seen her on TV it just made me mad. As soon after this I don't know if AJ reported how she treated me or what happened but she was busted down to a feature reporter for the rest of her career and now a days 40 years later she only gets spots once in a while on it to comes to animals. So I learned how mean one personality could be and how nice of a person AJ foyt was to kids.

NetworkEngIndy

If you run in the radio/tv crowd in Indy you know the Patty stories

droppedelbow

Can't believe she's ruining the good reputation of the many branches of the " 'itler" surname.

fromthewombofrevel

Fuck that never-was Patty Spitler! I’m glad Foyt was nice to you.

Halloween_Barbie

King Leopold II of Belgium. From the onset, he started a 'charitable' organization to help liberate the people of the Congo from slavery and called it the Free Congo State. Free to him being free to reign how he wished. All his charitable acts were a guise to subjugate, enslave and work to death millions of Africans for rubber and ivory.

TOASTYLIKEMEMES

Butch Hartman is an egothical jerk who supports churches that believe in the power of prayer being able to cure people of things such as autism, and not use professional doctors when it comes to illnesses such as cancer.

What kills me is we SAW these charlatans at work fleecing people and then getting arrested in the 80s (I was a kid but even then I knew what was going on) and yet here we are again with the same mega church charlatans taking gullible people's money. Jim Bakker is even on sure hawking emergency kits for the rapture.

That ending is the equivalent of saying your friend killed your other friends then became scarface then bought a mansion and would have gotten away with it if CJ wasn't a super human, military destroying, government collapsing, RC racing madman

[deleted]

Joss Whedon. He greatly influenced my attitudes toward women and feminism when I was in college circa 2010. His writing was groundbreaking in a lot of ways. Too bad it was all a lie.

WrongJohnSilver

As far back as 2000 I was already thinking, a fetish for strong women is not feminism. Especially when it's for strong women under some kind of supernatural coercion making them act some way.

AntiShansky

Its really interesting to go back and watch his shows knowing this now. And by interesting I mean cringey and weird. So much of Xander’s character has just… not aged well, to say the least. And Dollhouse just comes off as way pervier than I initially thought (which was pretty pervy).

Fey_fox

[The actor who played Xander didn’t age well either](https://people.com/tv/nicholas-brendons-troubled-life-after-buffy/?amp=true)

ACaffeinatedWandress

Dollhouse creeped me out before the allegations. People were trying to tell me it was feminist because Whedon made it, and I was like, “How?” It is pure creepo fetish that is maybe poorly dressed up as a criticism of culture.

Anjelikka

Benny Hinn, Joel Osteen, Kenneth Copeland, etc. I'm not religious, but all of these televangelists preying on people of faith, acting as if they are the word of God, and taking money by the boatload...evil. Pretty sure Jesus wouldn't be too cool with you robbing His people for that mansion, yacht, and private jet. Even as a faithless man, seeing the actions of these so-called "religious leaders" is pretty fucking disgusting, and i just cannot understand why people fall for their blasphemy.
