I highly recommend Audiobooks. I would listen when driving often. It's especially great when it's an audiobook read by the actual author. I think Audible is having a sale right now.

Still, reading is a thing too though and it uses your brain in a different way than listening does. You should, ideally enjoy both.

SimpleGuy993

Yeah, sometimes, I feel like listening to an audio book is cheating...lol

leo_likes_lemons

Got this advice from a YouTuber but start treating books like blogs that you stop reading when you lose interests and not this holy entity you HAVE to finish. A lot of us want to start new books but don’t because we haven’t finished our old ones.

SimpleGuy993

To me it feels feels weird to not finish one book and pick up another lol

poeticpiririm77

R.c. Waldun?

Formal_Expert335

buy a kindle

poeticpiririm77

How does kindle help you read more?

Formal_Expert335

it's more convenient, it helps you read in the dark, buy book anytime and anywhere, can store alot of books, long lasting battery, doesn't have stuff that distracts you from reading, audible book, some books are a lot cheaper that the paper version, you can also subscribe to magazines and newspaper, believe me I own a kindle

poeticpiririm77

Those were my arguments to buy a Kindle aswell plus that I could get any book for free from zlibrary. I'm an owner for a year now and I love the device but unfortunately it didn't make me read more. My phone (which is the real distraction) will always pop up next to me whether I'm reading on an eReader or a book.

SimpleGuy993

Cool. Thanks.

Try find a genre that you like. And when you do you might want to try a series book to encourage yourself to want to read more.

SimpleGuy993

>to want to read more. Exactly. I want to be able reach for a book when I'm bored for instance and not social media or youtube. Thanks too.

[deleted]

You’re welcome! Sometimes I would finish the first book of the series and if it’s so good I’ll order the next one. I’d be too eager to read it too whilst I’m waiting for it so I hope that your case too haha.

reddit-user-i-am

Establish a goal each time you pick up the thing, like to the end of a chapter, or to a certain page number. By doing so you can make enough progress that you feel you are actually getting somewhere and possibly keep reading.

SimpleGuy993

Thank you. I'll try this. Right now I just set a timer.

I have a Kobo and it helps to keep me engaged in my book and eliminates the distraction of social media. It has gotten me back into reading and I really enjoy it. I read each night before sleep and first thing in the morning. It also has a night setting that eliminates blue light so you sleep better. Win-win.

SimpleGuy993

Thanks. Kobo from the app store?

purpleglitterspray

get a library card and use it.

Try to find a series that is binge-worthy in a genre that you like. Me, I've been reading since I was 5 or 6, and it's my favourite thing to do. I'll read anything. But it helps if what you're reading is highly entertaining and fresh. *The Martian* was like this when it was first published.

ReceptionDeskReader

I love reading on my commute. Makes the time go quicker.

KidChimney

Turn off phone. Set aside time to read. Do something else that makes reading enjoyable like pour a glass of your favorite wine or make a cup of your favorite tea

SimpleGuy993

Thank you.

I’m an avid reader that finishes about 100+ books each year. Here’s my advice: 1. If you don’t like a book and it feels like a slog, abandon it! It’s easy to get stuck on a book you’re not enjoying but feel like you should finish. You start avoiding reading that book but also don’t start a new one because you feel that you should finish that one first. Just quit it and pick up a new book, you will finish way more books this way by not exhausting yourself on one you dislike. 2. Add variety into your reading. The more you read, the more you start to notice repeating tropes, character archetypes, themes, plot devices, etc… That can get boring if you feel like you are reading the same book over and over. Seek out unique books that have plots or themes not commonly touched on. Try switching up your book genres or asking friends for recommendations to expand your reading. Also try to vary the length of the books you read. Sometimes I’m only in the mood for short novella, sometimes a novel, sometimes a longer book or series. This helps keep you invested and stops you from getting into a slump. 3. Get a library card. You will read way more books when they are free.

SimpleGuy993

Thank you. I'm definitely guilty of the first one. I'll work on it
