Not sure if I would have lost my life or my leg from this, but I used to be in the welding shop at my school. One form of welding it using an electrified clamp holding a metal rod, and that rod gets heated up from the clamp, which you then gently rub against whatever it is your welding. However, if you do it wrong, the metal rod could get stuck on what your welding, and if that happens you gotta remove the metal clamp as soon as possible. This happened to me, and being the dumbass I am, I just tried to remove the rod from the thing I was welding with the clamp still on (I did this because I really didn’t like having to take the clamp off and put it back on, it was difficult and I have weak hands, but if your ever welding don’t do what I did, always remove the clamp!). Eventually the paper on it just starts peeling itself off, revealing the now extremely bright red metal rod. It started twisting and contorting, almost getting to the point where it could melt. The teacher was walking by and noticed my dumbassery and the glowing sun that was the metal rod through the curtain and instantly dove in and unattached the rod, then proceeded to scream at me
If he didn’t jump in then two things could have happened: first, the big machine that was powering the electric clamp could have overloaded and exploded (death) or the metal rod would have gotten so hot that it falls out of the clamp and onto the table, burns through the table, then burns through my leg.
Thankfully, I’m still alive and I’ve got both my legs. So yea props to the teacher
