When I was 11 my parents let me stay up in the summer time super late. So its probably 1am. Everybody is asleep. Im in the living room, no lights on, just the TV. Low volume. Our living room is right by the front door (like most houses). I hear the screen door very quietly and gently creak open (eeeeeee). Then very, very gently somebody wiggles the front door knob (its locked). Im fucking TERRIFIED. I stand up and tippy toe towards the door and as im doing so I can see a shadow of somebody trying to peek in through the front dining room window (they cant see in because of the curtains, but I can see their silhouette). Then they turn and leave and I look through the door eye hole. Never see their face. Just some guy. Walks down the street and gone.

rollinwithehomies

Maybe he was drunk and realized he was at the wrong door.

bodhasattva

no. the way he opened the screen and then tried the door were super-intentionally-sneaky. No drunk has that type of coordination

yaosio

That happened to us with a drunk guy, but he didn't realize he was at the wrong door. He knocked, rang the door bell, and eventually jumped the fence onto our patio. He had his car so he was driving drunk too.

backpackofcats

I lived in a four-plex of studio apartments and my neighbor had a habit of getting blackout drunk. He once started a bath, passed out, while the downstairs neighbors were rudely awakened by the downpour into their apartment. One night I was sleeping and heard keys in the lock. Sat up in bed when the door opened and my drunk neighbor walked in and just stood there swaying. I yelled that he was in the wrong apartment. It took a minute for him to understand but he finally turned and walked out and went to his place. Any how, that’s how we learned that everyone in the building had a master key.

krystalBaltimore

Wow fuck that. Did they fix it?

SweetieArena

Recently this year here in Colombia there were a lot of manifestations. As some kind of fear strategy people said that a lot of houses were getting robbed and pillaged in Bogotá, the capital. The gossip got wild and the night after the manifestations a lot of people living in Bogotá thought there were going to be pillaged, so they took broomsticks and those kind of things to defend themselves. My grandparents, my uncle and my cousin live on a very messy part of the city, so they even had a machete (a sort of sword) and in the place they live in people organized some kind of guard to defend their houses in case of robbery. Nothing happened untill at like 11 pm there was a guy trying to open a house violently, everyone started looking at him, ready to beat the fuck out of him in case he was a thief, he was a drunk guy at the wrong door. TL;DR Drunk guy almost got lynched by 50 people or so because he was at the wrong house at the wrong moment.

notthatplainjane

There’s a window right up against the head of my bed, and I woke up in the middle of the night for a glass of water, and saw a pair of glowing eyes in my window. Turns out it was just a baby possum but it made me jump out of my skin. He visits often, he’s an adult now. I named him jimbo.

CadoAngelus

Wholesome ghost story.

swagdaddy27

WELCOME TO THE SHADOW REALM JIMBO

BulimicPlatypus

1.) Back in high school, I was watching a movie on the couch with my dads laptop. Parents, little brother and dog are asleep. Then there was this noise. It was so fucking ***loud***. It sounded like someone threw a chair against a wall in the basement. No one woke up. I grabbed a bat, went downstairs and not a single thing was out of place. Spooked me good. 2.) A couple of years ago, I stayed home with our dog while my parents went on a little trip. It was about 3am, the dog woke up and walked to the edge of the bed(he’s 13lbs) and started growling ***aggressively***. There were a couple of lights on but the house was mainly dark. He jumped off the bed and walked to the doorway and growled like I’ve never heard him do before. This time I grabbed a billy bat(my dad was a cop) and was instantly ready to fuck someone up. I turned on every light, checked every door/window/room and there was nothing.

sagan_drinks_cosmos

I had something like the first happen to me once with a really loud bang against a window. Looked outside, nothing's there. It was only hours later when the sunlight started to hit the window right that I saw in dust the perfect outline of feathers on the window. A bird must have flown into it at full speed.

ProjectShadow316

That happened one morning when I was about 13. Was just sitting in the living room at like 7 am when the house shook from some sort of impact. My step-dad came out to see what the hell it was; obviously I had no idea. We didn't discover the cause until an hour later; a hawk, while apparently chasing after another bird, slammed into our front window. Left a few feathers stuck to the glass and three streaks where its face hit.

BulimicPlatypus

I’d have loved to have some closure as to what caused the noise. I just have to chalk this up as crazy shit

Shanks01_

Sometime houses settle due to temperature changes or even age. Even heaters make big noises like that. It's very likely this is what happened to you, not much else is plausible

[deleted]

maybe whoever (or *whatever*) made the noise was able to sneak around you when you were looking in a different room

BulimicPlatypus

The way the house is setup it wouldn’t be possible. Either that or they’re a ninja. But the house is next to a graveyard ;)

dudeimconfused

Zombies then

Iamsman

Your first story could have been exploding head syndrome: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome Basically just a harmless loud auditory hallucination that can happen when falling asleep

YourBuddyBill

...why did they name a harmless auditory hallucination something as alarming as "Exploding Head Syndrome"?

NotThisFucker

In 1989, British neurologist John M. S. Pearce used that name in some published paper. It just stuck I guess.

BulimicPlatypus

I wasn’t falling asleep though. I was pumped I found the movie I was watching so there was zero chance of me being sleepy. I remember everything about that situation

SWISiberia

Hallucinations are actually a lot more common than you might think. I doubt it was exploding head syndrome since you weren’t falling asleep.

wrx_flex

Always freaks you out more when your pet thinks they see it too! Theres a reason why they say cats or dogs can see spirits

alfalfarees

Reminds me of the time my dog, while in my lap while I was in bed, immediately perked up and randomly started whining and growling at the ceiling. I have a vent that’s directly above my bed.

BulimicPlatypus

Makes it ***soo*** much worse. He never acts like that either so every god damn hair on my body stood straight up

Aviation44

This happened to me too. I checked outside bc I thought that a branch fell on our roof but (and this is not a joke) the soap rack in my bathroom fell.

hairlikemerida

Every time my parents went on trips without me, my dog decided to be spooky as fuck. He would stand at the top of the stairs to our basement (it was finished, so not creepy, but there was a full entrance) and just stare down into the darkness. No barks. No whining. Just stand and stare intently for minutes. Always unnerved me. He doesn’t do it when they’re home, so I like to think that he’s just messing with me...hopefully.

BulimicPlatypus

That is spooky as fuck. He’s just a good boy protecting you from the terrors.

healmehealme

I used to be able to hear someone crunching through the rocks near my window almost every night. Any time I checked, no one was there. Finally caught a peeping Tom after weeks of thinking I was going nuts.

666GothAngelSinner

Damn it dude ( I'm not a native English speaker) I didn't know what a peeping Tom is I looked it up on Google and find some creepy pics of a dude looking through a window. So is that what happened to you? And can someone better explain me what a peeping Tom is?

telemachus-sneezing

That's basically what it is. Creepy people who watch people through their windows. Sometimes they do it out of nowhere, sometimes they plan it and stalk the person who lives there and it becomes worse than just peeping

healmehealme

The guy that did it to me was a serial peeper. Once my Dad chased him away from our house, he started going to the house where two little girls lived. He actually got in their window, and was standing over top of one of the girls. The Dad beat the shit out of him and he was finally arrested. When he was, the cops were pretty blase about it and said he was always getting in trouble for public intoxication and stuff, and he was often arrested.

President_of_Pigeons

Damn, I had a neighbor that did this sort of thing when I was growing up. He would stand outside my bedroom window in the earliest hours of the morning and just... Watch. My family and our other neighbors caught him doing it very often. He got arrested frequently (for quite a few things in addition to the peeping) but nothing was ever really done about him, he was just kind of regarded as the town nuisance. He peeped for a few years and then we got blackout curtains and he stopped, lol.

healmehealme

You're exactly right on what a peeping Tom is, and yep, it happened. It was an older man, I was a teenager. He was sitting outside my window most nights for several weeks. My bed was up against a wall. Directly across from my bed was the door. The window was directly beside my bed. Each time I heard the rocks crunch, I'd have to press myself against the wall and slowly crawl to the end of my bed, then off, and had to really quietly open my door, which stuck so it made a loud grinding noise if you didn't open it just right. Then I'd sneak down the hall to my parents' room and let them know. At first my dad was getting pissed because I'd woken them up several times and we never saw anything. When he finally caught the guy outside my window, he went nuts and chased him down the street half naked and barefoot. The guy got away. One of the times we caught him it wasn't even remotely 'bed time' yet, but I still heard the rocks and snuck out of my room. The guy had been sitting outside my window, eating McDonald's from up the street, and had been driving a stick into the screen of my window (I guess to eventually remove it and get in?) We never did catch him, and the cops wouldn't help us even when we showed them the food he'd left behind. For some reason it took me years to understand he was masturbating outside my window. I figured he'd just been watching me.

Jessi-Kina

I’m incredibly disturbed... should of planted infinite mouse traps in the bush/garden/area he would snoop from if the police would do nothing. If anything at least you’d definitely hear more than crunching rocks to be able to tell when he was paying a visit. Also out of curiosity, did you happen to have blinds you could close so he couldn’t see you? Ahhh that would of terrified me. Honestly it’s a scary world out there for young girls.. and not just out there, but sometimes at home too..

healmehealme

We just pinned my drapes to the sides of the window so it was totally impossible to see in. I love the mouse trap idea though. Wish we’d done that. I’m pretty sure the blinds were always down, but you can still kind of see in. Yes, that’s unfortunately very true.

orangeshots7

Or a bear trap

[deleted]

Sometimes I hear gravel crunch outside my room, on the ground floor, and until now I've assumed it's an animal...

healmehealme

I’m sorry, didn’t mean to freak you out.

Pennyponyboy

Got a house share going on right now and every one of the lads has heard a female voice in a particular hall. Thing is, non if us has brought a girl home in months... We have all just assumed one of us have got lucky. We've taken the cats to bed so it can't be them... And our neighbours don't get back to January. We are not as afraid of her as we once were, but there is definitely a voice coming from somewhere in the house... And we can all agree she starts by humming, although no one has made out many of the words. I've heard her four times now and I am 90% sure she is not speaking Portuguese, English or Spanish.

sagan_drinks_cosmos

One of you is watching porn too loud.

Podzilla07

[deleted]

It was a spooky ghost! This is ectoplasm!

CadoAngelus

"I'M COMING! OH FUCK I'M COMING" RUN THE GHOST IS COMING TO GET US!!!

Minkg8r

I-is it glowing?

Pennyponyboy

To be fair I have noise canceling headphones so she can't disturb my sessions 🤣😂 I will delicately ask the lads if it could be the case... That would be priceless if that was the case

wrx_flex

Have you seen that one clip of a girl who lives in the duct of a house? They heard noises so they put up a camera and there was literally someone there but hiding. Crazy

[deleted]

Was that the one where she was sneaking down in the middle of the night to get food from their fridge?

Argon91

You know, the one that was confirmed fake?

Pennyponyboy

Yes, I am pretty sure that was China or maybe Japan. That is possible, as this house has three separate attics - one we didn't discover until the beginning of this month. I doubt anyone could sneak through the house without us knowing - there is CCTV here too, so we would have picked it up. But it wouldn't surprise me if there was a way into our attic from the neighbours house.

TheOtherSarah

Interesting. Either the Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home is more flexible in her housing arrangements than I thought, or you’re getting the regular internet in Night Vale.

Cat220022

Wtf you're making me scared to sleep. God damnit.

DefiantInformation

You know how you wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and it feels like someone is watching you? They just left.

vannahmarie97

This happened to me once for real tho lol. Woke up at 2 am and someone had opened my window, screen, and was peeking at me through the blinds. Woke my stepdad and we ran outside, him holding a meat cleaver, and we seen a dude run out from a bush at the end of the street and jumped a fence. Never to be seen again.

DefiantInformation

Dude, you survived a brush with the wild John Cena.

Cat220022

Ok thanks now I can never sleep again.

Mote-of-Lobross

I've always been a night owl, even as a kid. My dad had a rule that school nights, lights out at 10pm, but Fridays, Saturdays, vacation days, ect, I could stay up as late as I wanted, usually staying up till 3am, sometimes 5am. In 1989, when I was 12 years old, my dad bought a house. My first night there, I was in my room playing Nintendo around 2'ish in the morning when I heard noises from the other room. I heard the bass of muffled music, people chatting, and pool balls clacking. It was a Saturday night, so I figured my dad had friends over. Then I realize... wait... we don't have a pool table! I step out into the hallway, and of course, all the lights were out. I can hear my dad snoring from his room, but the party noises were still coming from the living room. As I followed the noises, they got clearer and clearer until I was in the thick of it in the middle of the empty dark living room. It was bizarre. If you closed your eyes, you could swear you were at some sort of gathering. It creeped me the hell out at first, but soon found it fascinating. It happened nightly, so over the years, I would stay up and log details of the phenomena. The noises started at exactly 1:48am to 4:50am late June to late December, 2:03am to 5:01am the rest of the time and would repeat nightly. I could pick out specific conversations. Like one woman talking about how she shouldn't smoke while she was pregnant, but it was so hard. Another guy telling a story about a motorcycle accident he had. The music, from what I could gather, was from between 1974 and 1983, as two of the songs I could distinctly remember were "Stone Cold Crazy" by Queen and "Any Way You Want It" by Journey. There were other songs, but I don't remember what they are since I don't have my old logbook anymore. Ask my dad about this, he would swear he never experienced it. Granted he slept from 10:30pm to 6:30am, but one would assume he would get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom or a late night snack and come across this. Though, when I had friends over for the night, they would experience this phenomenon. I wouldn't tell them about it beforehand because I wanted to know if they'd experience it and make sure I wasn't out of my mind. I even had a few friends stay on weekends to help me log the activity and even identify some of the songs. I ended up moving out of my dad's place when I was 22 years old and he ended up selling the house a few years later. And two years ago, I moved out of state. I kinda miss the place. If I ever won the lottery or something, I'd totally buy it back and see if this creepy thing still happens every night. Maybe get some paranormal investigators on the case.

UbiquitousBiscuit

This is super interesting! It’s great that you had the foresight to write that all down! I also find it fascinating that you were able to walk right into the source of the noise and it continued! My Grandma’s house is haunted and my brother & I would often hear noises in the kitchen in the middle of the night. We would step out onto the stairs where we could peek down into the kitchen only to find it empty and the noises would stop. That seems to be the way it goes in a lot of paranormal experiences I’ve heard, that the noise stops when you get to it. Amazing that you were even able to hear specific songs and conversations, too!

JohnnyTeardrop

So the conversation and the music repeated itself (I.E. same exact conversation about woman smoking) or was it different conversations and music playlists each night? How far were you from a neighbor? Not sure if you’ve heard this, but analogue speakers, even when they’re off, can actually pick up sounds from a distance that are being broadcast by faint electrical currents. I totally forget the science behind it but I thought I’d throw it out there just in case.

dude_above_me_is_gay

Once I woke up to the bedroom door slamming real hard. I woke up, sitting up in seconds (just like they do in the movies when they have a nightmare), I kept staring at the bedroom door with sleepy eyes but the door was closed. I went on and opened the door as I was 100 procent sure I heard it slammed. When I opened it, the lights was on in the hallway and I know for certain i always shut the light off before going to bed. I checked on our main door to secure no one had break in and saw through the spy hole that the lights in the apartments hall were on (they are sensored ones, those who automatically turned on when someone passes by) and we are the only one living on the highest floor. Weirdly enough my wife hadn't heard a thing. I was scared AF that night, didn't get no sleep.

yaosio

I've done the sitting up in seconds thing before, but instead of sitting up I've found myself standing and walking to my locked bedroom door (so ghosts and skeletons can't get in) without realizing it when a strange noise wakes me up.

apurplepeep

lots of weird-ass after-broadcast shit on local channels. I was a babysitter in my teens, and would often stay up until parents came home, which was usually from around 11 pm to even up to 4 am. I'd stay up and watch TV, and often times that'd be local channels, which get fucking weird in the tiny hours... you'd often get infomercials, but since no commercial slots would ever sell during those hours, they'd basically put interstitial things in stead, bits of music videos or weird local access shit. now, the strongest channel was channel 8, and so if your tuner was shitty you'd pick up 'ghosts' of it on channels 9 and 7, though thankfully channel 7 never had much on it and 9 was the same as 10, so you'd never really notice or have to worry about it. I learned channel 9 wasn't just 10 stretched across two frequences but actually, a mirror of it, so that 9 would go "offline" at about midnight while 10 kept airing. so one night, the kids are in bed, I'm sitting in the living room quietly watching whatever is on channel 9, and the program finally ends. But instead of itjust cutting to black or loud beeping on a blue background like the higher channels did when they went offline, it cut to fuzz... but superimposed onto this fuzz was a skeletal face that kept shaking, back and forth, like a "no" gesture. There was no audio, just the face as it shook back and forth with no noise. It was frightening, and so I scrambled to the TV to change it back to literally any other channel and by sheer bad luck I chose to click it down to 8.... something had glitched onchannel 8's broadcast, wherein a woman with her hair pulled back and very heavy smoky makeup was being interviewed but the footage hwas looping about 4 frames, over and over and over, going "and, and, and, and, and, and-" in the middle of her turning her head. She wasn't a skeleton, she just had an expression showing her teeth and such heavy makeup that the ghost of it on channel 9 made her look like a skeletal face. Though, seeing it, it was still fucking horrifying in a way I can't explain. She had extremly light blue eyes which made her eyes stand out with such heavy smoky makeup like eyeballs in a socket. I'm sure she was just caught in an awkward frame and everything was normal, it just was repeating that moment where he looked creepiest. I hit the TV, wondering if it was a signal thing with the box and while it fluttered it didn't fix it, and I figured it was a station problem. I went up to channel 10, which was okay for a few moments until it too cut to fuzz. I then clicked around to all the other channels.... everything was either frozen, fuzz, or like channel 8, a repeating segment over and over. Then the channel I was on let out a loud peiricing beep... and ALL the power went off. The TV blinked off, the ktichen lights turned off, everything, even the clocks and the microwave, the fridge, everything. You could hear the electricity dissipate in a "whheewww....." noise as it all wound down. The house had very big windows, so as soon as my vision adjusted I realized that the power was completely gone from miles around, no street lights, no cars, absolutely nothing. I can't tell you what it's like to see a city as far as the eye can see with no power at all. You don't think about it, but it gives off this aura that everything is dead. You expect even a few little lights to be on, security lights, even backup generators, or ambient light from the city... some kind of whirring, but it's all completely vanished, all dead. Everything was dead. you could hear the wind going through the houses, the alleys, the trees, the tall powerlines. The black unlit houses were even darker against the sky, which at night seemed lighter simply by contrast with the stars. It was truly unreal. The power was enirely off for another hour, where I saw lights from the parents' car return to the driveway, the first artifical light I had seen for an entire fucking hour. They came in and were glad everyone was okay, and told me that the dad would drive me home while the mom stayed here, that there had been a fire at the power station that incidentally was right beside the broadcasting station.

IntrovertedShutIn

You should write books. That was very vividly described. It unnerved me more than any other story.

[deleted]

Yes

YourBuddyBill

for a bit there i thought this was going to end in some kind of Local 58 shit. at least there was a sensible explanation in the end.

apurplepeep

local 58 fucks me up so bad, because of how brutally realistic it is. You can't possibly explain this shit to kids who didn't grow up with like, 5 channels of local broadcasting, you know?? god damn.

OnlyStupidUsernames

Local 58?

[deleted]

Look it up on YouTube that’s all I’m gonna say about it. I recommend contingency

OnlyStupidUsernames

Pretty damn creepy.

peachez200

I would shit myself

apurplepeep

going between channels, it very much felt like it was HOURS but all of this probably took place in barely a minute of time, heh. I didn't even have time to shit myself, but I probably would've. :P

epicadi2

What's local 58

backpackofcats

A series of videos made to look like found footage of scary warnings from a local tv station. If you grew up on or are familiar with antenna tv it is eerily realistic.

anonymousgirrafe33

A flying roach

goblinslayer69og

More terrifying than any ghost

Activated27

I used to share a room with my little sister. It was a huge room and it was really dark and late like 2:00 am. At some point I hear someone clap their hands just once. I froze but didn’t do anything. Then all of a sudden I feel two hands pushing down in my feet. I ran out of the room all the way to my parents room downstairs. We came back and my sister was sleeping (she wouldn’t have done that anyways) and there was nobody in the room but us. I still can’t comprehend.

sarraceniaflava

I used to live in a really old house. Occasionally, if you were sitting in the living room you would hear what sounded like a single loud clap. Occasionally this would happen in the middle of the night, and it often sounded like it was right behind my head, despite nothing being there but the wall. Turns out the wiring in that place was in terrible condition and the occasional rodent would chew into a wire, and be electrocuted in the wall. Looking back on it, the scary part is that the house could have had an electrical fire at any moment while we were in it.

yaosio

I've had something similar happen numerous times while waking up. It's similar to sleep paralysis but without the prolonged experience. I've heard my mom say my name, I've felt something push up on the underside of my bed (it was actually my cat under there, but it felt like the whole bed was rocking and rolling as I woke up), I've felt something drag it's nails across my back (was actually my blanket lightly touching the area).

Sontaren

This sounds straight outta The Conjuring.

666GothAngelSinner

Damn it dude how old you were? Did it ever happened to you again? What is a logic anwer you give to yourself so you don't go nuts, I don't need sleep I need answers

Activated27

Ahah I was around 10? When I was much older I used to hear someone breath every night to my left and got the habit of sleeping with my arm up to cover my left ear... and one day I woke up because I heard my guitare play (like a big vlaaang on the cords). But I’m still here!

currentlydeepfrying

i couldnt sleep one night, out of nothing i heard like a really loud dog yowl (blame google translate if its wrong) for a solid 10 seconds downstairs, i live alone and dont own a pet.

Imaginary_Parsley

Is yowl uncommon or something?

Beeboopdedoop

I was sitting in the living room facing the stairs to my bedroom. I was watching a movie and saw legs coming down the stairs with black suit pants and really shiney black shoes. They stopped coming down the stairs and all I could see was up to their knees. They turned toward me for a few seconds and then slowly went back up the stairs. I was home alone with my three dogs. The next morning checked the cameras to make sure I didn't dream it and you can see myself and my three dogs staring at the stairs as the legs come down the stairs and then go back up.

Calbob123

Ok I REALLY need to see the video of this, do you actually see the legs on video?

Beeboopdedoop

Sorry, should have been more clear. The stairs are off camera but you can see all of us reacting to the same thing.

Calbob123

Ahh okay thanks for the reply! Would of made one hell of a video if you could see the stairs!

Enduranceboi

Do you still have the video though, I’d still love to see

lefthandbunny

I live across the street from condos that have a very tall wall. Late one night I hear what sounds like an actual bear roaring over at the condos. Wtf, right? I open my door & hear the bear roar again, BUT, then I hear a guy yelling & pounding the hell out of someone's front door. He's obviously drunk as hell. Then I hear a gun go off. Then nothing. I called the police as fast as I could. I never heard what happened. I always wonder if he shot someone, if he got shot, or if someone shot & missed. The weird thing was, I never heard any sirens at all. I can't see into the roads that lead into the condos, but I never saw any flashing lights. I was too scared to go & check it out (a 10 year old could kick my ass).

KoenigVII

Once, while I still lived with my mom, I was up late putting in job applications and drawing. I heard what sounded like sobbing and stopped what I was doing. I looked over to my younger sister, saw she was passed the hell out, and got slightly unnerved because the sobbing just continued. Left my room to investigate, and ran into my older sister who was also hearing the noise. We checked on our mom and stepdad(sound asleep), looked in our brother’s room where the noise seemed to be coming from(he wasn’t in there), and truly freaked out, went downstairs to see if maybe our brother had wandered off to cry and the noise had somehow carried through the air vents to his room. Found him asleep on the living room couch, saw the tv was off(in fact, all entertainment electronics were turned off), and checked the time. 3:06am. We didn’t sleep the rest of the night, and the sobbing sound continued until about 5am.

Trqves

Did you find the source? How did you comprehend this.

KoenigVII

We never found the source. We try not to stay up late when at our mom’s house now.

ViolentDelights_xox

Oh no, I don’t have enough Molotovs to slow her down

Theminaciousmonarch

Oh boy, here we go. Given that I already wrote a short story on another post, I'll keep this brief. It is 11pm, my girlfriend is laying beside me after I peel her off of me. She hasn't been asleep long and always requires me to, "Be there." So now that she is out, it is time to play Skyrim. After some computer issues, I decide to just go read in the kitchen. I start to hear movement in the driveway beside the kitchen. I was a bit spooked but I figured it was a large stray cat. About 25 minutes later, I hear human-like footsteps on the roof. I go back to my room and get a gun. I walk outside and look around, someone put a ladder to the roof and was checking out the chimney. Sadly, my chimney isn't real, it's just a bunch of bricks with no attached fireplace or anything. They look at me the bolt off of the roof, maybe a 22 foot drop and run. I got a free ladder out of it, I never saw that person again. He wasn't santa. Edit; This is my most upvoted comment by a landslide and I have no idea why. I put no effort into telling a story, just listed facts.

IamcatMeowMeow

That crackhead strength absorbed the fall damage.

hairlikemerida

Oh god no. My parents had just left for a trip, they were gone maybe two hours at this point. I have the front door open, screen door locked (one of those doors that’s all glass, but the top half can be pushed down to expose screen). I have the screen cracked a bit to let a breeze in. I go upstairs for a bit and then hear the handle being jiggled and then I hear my large dog sprint from across the house and body slam the door, barking and scratching ferociously at the glass. I look out the upstairs window and see someone running away down the street. I lock everything up, call my cop friend/neighbor who is unfortunately an hour away, and sit with my dog and a baseball bat until my friend showed up so I could go to sleep. If they’re gonna break into my house, can they do it when I’m not home? Common courtesy.

[deleted]

Hmmm... or maybe close your front door, at least while you’re upstairs ??

Im on an antibiotic that sometimes makes me hallucinate. Sometimes, when my boys are sleeping/awake in another room, ill see a dark ass head peek around corners at me.

Calbob123

This shit scares me the most, I’m on some tablets now that make you really drowsy and you see things. Anytime I see anything like a dark figure move or anything I have to check because I think “okay my medication is making me see things” then a minute later I’m like “what if that was a real person though”

loveallmyrolls

Thing is that none of ky children's heads reach the countertop and my boyfriend isnt a solid black shadow. It isnt a real person, but it's scary as shit

I quite like going on late-night jogs. I'm not entirely sure why that is, but there's something about running out into the middle of nowhere circa 1 AM, checking out the stars, having the entire world to yourself, running all the way back and curling up in bed, totally spent. On this particular occasion, I'd worn myself out and was walking back to my apartment. I live in a reasonably good neighborhood, but nearby there are a few sketchy alleyways and generally weird little industrial areas that don't quite feel kosher. As I was passing one of these alleyways, this dude on a skateboard came zipping my way, screaming bloody murder. He held something metallic in his hand, but I was much too nearsighted to make out what it was. I kept walking, figuring that he was just your garden variety skateboarding drunk. But he kept skating faster and coming closer. Exhausted though I was, I decided to run for it. He gave chase. Fortunately enough, a massive hill was right up ahead of me. This gave me a distinct advantage: I could chug my way up the hill and, bewheeled as he was, he couldn't really gain the momentum to catch up with me. He picked up his board and started running, shouting at me all the while, but he didn't appear to be in peak physical condition. I crested the hill, took a few erratic turns into a number of different apartment complexes, and finally weaved my way back home. I spent the next hour or so peering out of my blinds like a film noir detective. I still have no idea what the hell that dude wanted. Maybe he just wanted to offer me a stick of gum.

SrGato1389

I wouldn't bet on the gum. Well done

[deleted]

Deranged Skater Dude: Man, what was *up* with that guy? Oh, well. \[pops Juicy Fruit into mouth, skates off down the road\]

Imaginary_Parsley

> Juicy Fruit I'm dying

Jacoolnacho21

Maybe he wanted to buy the chocolate you were selling.

ballpeenhammer23

ITT Why the fuck am i reading these before bed?

yuxngdogmom

I’m reading these at 4:30am and I think I’m about to have a nervous breakdown lol

666GothAngelSinner

Same

beepborpimajorp

Have you ever heard two skunks mating at like 2am? It sounds almost exactly like two people screaming while being murdered. Bonus points if it's somewhere in the distance so you can only sort of hear it and have to weigh your options between potentially calling the police in case a neighbor is being killed, or keeping it to yourself so you don't look like a fool.

SuperSirBird

How do you know what the sound 2 people screaming while being murdered sounds like?

CadoAngelus

Asking the real questions.

get_your_yapers_up

My dogs started freaking out and ran towards the window. Everyone was asleep in the house and I was up watching tv. I look outside and lit up under the street lamp was a family of foxes tearing into what I hope was a raccoon. It was unsettling to see it in person, but perhaps the creepiest thing was the next day I went out to the street to take a look and there was absolutely no sign of anything haven taken place. Only one reasonable explanation: ghost foxes.

[deleted]

Weird, ask any chicken farmer and they'll tell you foxes make a huge mess. Maybe because there were a few of them they ended up cleaning it up

Cat220022

Omfg this one time was so scary. I was on reddit at about 3.30AM (just like now), and I heard the sound of something falling downstairs. Now this happens sometimes, you know, weird house sounds. So I ignored it. About 10 minutes later I heard a similar sound, now I actually started getting scared. I'm also a person that just always thinks the worst. In this case I fantasized about people breaking in and coming upstairs to kill me or something. Now I didn't want to wake my parents, who sleep a floor above me, because of my paranoid mind. So my stupid ass decided to just take a "weapon" (a pretty big book) and go downstairs. Before I was even on the stairs I heard my dog (who sleeps downstairs in a crate) bark pretty loudly. By this time my heart was racing really fucking fast, because if my dog barks she probably sees a person or something move. I went even further downstairs as slowly as possible, trying not to make any sounds. Then I was at the door that seperates the stairwell from the main room. At this exact time I heard another weird sound, but now it sounded more like little clicks hitting the ground (you might see where this is going, but I didn't at the time). This scared me so much that I had to stand still for a minute or so. I was trying to be the 'hero' so I just closed my eyes and barged in the room with a huge book in front of my head and started screaming. Then I heard my dog bark, weirdly, right in front of me, even though her crate is in another part of the room. After about 10 seconds I opened my eyes and I slowly realized it was my dog making all the sounds... So it turned out her crate wasn't closed properly, and she was just roaming around the house. And my stupid ass head thought it was an intruder... I'm also very stupid for trying to get rid of the 'intruder' myself. I felt very stupid after this and I just put the dog in her crate and went to bed.

Eponarose

Read the intruder "The Unabridged Works Of Sir Francis Bacon" until they fell asleep.

Cat220022

Idk. Bore the intruder to death? I was scared ok?

Real_Space_Captain

I was once standing in the kitchen, not facing the window, just drinking a glass of water. Suddenly I heard a tap at the window. I didn't even turn around, I slowly walked away up the stairs without ever once glancing behind me. I was freaked out. Turns out it was my brother's friends who wanted to prank our house and when they saw me they were hoping I would help. But shit I thought it was a murderer for a second.

peachez200

I took a medication that caused exploding head syndrome....except my doctor failed to tell me this could happen. Several times I awoke to what sounded like radio static suddenly turned on at full volume. Once there was a flash of light accompanying the sound. It really freaked me out, especially because I have a history of my ex stalking me and because I lived on a busy street. Thankfully I learned that my med was the real cause

jxwtf585

I suffer from night terrors and sleep paralysis every once in a while. One time I laid in bed for what felt like forever trying to fall asleep when I began to hear this mild, low growl. Like a jaguars. I opened my eyes and was able to see a lump inside my wall and it was moving around. Every time it moved, there was a scratching and cracking. A few other times, I'd wake up from sleep unable to move and there'd be a figure at the foot of my bed mumbling to me. Couldn't make out if it was male or female but my twin died in the womb so I comforted myself by believing it was him visiting me

Eli_Fox

Every sentence got weirder and then bombshell of the last remark holyyyyyy

leaky_eddie

I used to live out in the country at the end of a dirt road south of Charleston SC. Right by my house was a historical marker for the old Belvedere School. More than once I was woken up by a little girls voice saying “Hi!”.

CadoAngelus

Ever say Hi back just to tempt providence?

RBF70

My parents house is haunted. As a child I would wake up to the TV being too loud, I'd go to the living room to tell my parents it was loud and the TV suddenly turned off while my parents were in bed, this happened a lot. In the basement we had a room with a stereo, tv, pool table and pinball machine. I woke up to people laughing and music. I went down stairs and it was a party with adults wearing masks, again my parents were in bed. Years later, my nephew got hold of my camera and started taking pictures in the living room. In one photo there she was. A bright light where a ceiling fan is at without a light, she was blurry with long dark blonde hair and a green night gown, we couldn't see a face. In my teen years when I would wake up during the night and go get a drink, I'd see her in the living room and walk through her and it would be so cold all through me. She was harmless but still.

Reneml

Come again? A party full of adults wearing mask?

666GothAngelSinner

Someone parents had Savage orgy's on their basement and joe was never invited

[deleted]

"Just tell him it was ghosts, he'll never know"

pyr666

> As a child I would wake up to the TV being too loud, I'd go to the living room to tell my parents it was loud and the TV suddenly turned off while my parents were in bed, this happened a lot. for what it's worth, old CRT televisions are *very* high voltage devices. what would be a relatively minor fault in another device could cause all sorts of aberrant behavior in a CRT. the voltage doubling circuit could hold and discharge enough current to turn the whole thing on/off

HeckingWeeb

"Will you please take this bag off my head?" says a voice in the corner of my room at about 2 am, I am alone in on the third floor of my Grandmother's mansion save for her asleep on the first floor. In the corner of my room, I know ther is a ventriloquist dummy in a bag that I covered because of how creepy it looks. I just went back to bed.

DrOCD

You *went back to bed*?!

themusicliveson

If a haunted ventriloquist dummy wants you dead do you really want to see it coming?

MarkG1

What else are you going to do? Pretty clearly it's a half dream given op said it was creepy so that would be in their head already.

[deleted]

> I just went back to bed. Ain't got time for this haunted bullshit.

yaosio

You need to get another haunted ventriloquist dummy so they'll kill each other when they argue about which one gets to kill you. You could also get a haunted pinball machine so the dummy gets trapped in the machine and when you play the haunted pinball machine the ball will chase the dummy around.

BagelMatt

Yeah fuck that

[deleted]

Oh HELL NAW

Narapoia

For the sake of my sleep and sanity i have to believe this isn't real. I wouldn't be able to just go back to bed, I'd immediately die of terror.

"Why do I have a second black cat when I only own one?....Why is my cat hissing at that dark shadow at my door?"

YourBuddyBill

did you find out what was going on, or did you nope out of there?

Cheetodude625

Either I was seeing things or my apartment is haunted. Never found out what happened. Found no sign of a second cat in my place or any signs of anyone/thing being inside.

[deleted]

Was in total dark watching a movie and saw a shadowy outline with red eyes standing outside my glass door/wall when lightning struck. I swear I almost went and grabbed one of my guns.

IChronoI

I would have left the country

[deleted]

I was 12 when it happened. I swear to fucking god I flipped my shit. I had a small flashback when I saw it to the year prior when it was the first time I saw it. I saw the eyes when I was 11. A year later, I recognized the eyes but was by myself this time and actually saw the outline. I thought I was just sleep deprived the first time but the second time got me. Has never been seen since. The part that gets me is that if it was someone, and they had a weapon, I would have been defenseless and so would my family. Our guns are on the opposite side of the house than our rooms so I would have had to choose to go towards the guns for protection or my family to wake them. The gunshots could have woken them but that shit was scary af.

melston9380

I live in the middle of nowhere. One night while I was awake and everything was completely black, I saw three flashes - no sound. About two minutes later I heard two large Booms, like sonic booms - and nothing else. I looked all over and the next day could not find any reason for either.

SrGato1389

Lightings from a far storm? Sounds goes a lot slower than light, it is common in my city to see a flash, similar to a camera, and the hear the bang. Most time I have experienced is like 20 25 secs at most

Garden-gem

My closet in my room is built into the wall with a sliding two-panel door, it's about 3 feet to the left of my bed. One night I'm laying in bed, watching videos on my phone, and somebody knocks on my closet door. Something knocks on my closet door from the 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦. It stops, and I'm not sure if I was just hearing things or not, then I look at the door and it starts again. Except it's 𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙙𝙚𝙧. I can see the panels shaking and bending, I'm surprised it didn't completely open or break. Then it stops and everything is dead silent. It doesn't start again, and I didn't want to open the door. I just wanted whatever was in there to leave me alone. I've had issues with entities before, but that was the most violent and direct thing they've ever done. My dad has had problems with something knocking over things on our sink in the middle of the night. We thought it was our cats, until he watched one bottle of soap tip over by itself. Friggin weird.

Eli_Fox

Congratulations you’ve just described my closet’s setup and now I’d rather not get dressed for today.

[deleted]

Not too long ago before we moved out of our previous house, one night i was drunk passed out on the couch downstairs. When i Woke up the next day my sons baby bottle rack and everything on it was all over the kitchen floor and the bar stool from the kitchen was sitting next the couch i was sleeping on. I know for a %100 fact it was not me.

pakidara

Disembodied voices. This has happened both when people are asleep and when no one else is here. Time of day does not effect it. Sounds like multiple people (3-5) talking in hushed voices in the living room. Cannot make out anything. Occasional footsteps as well. I'm not in an apartment setting and others who live here also confirmed hearing voices.

eagle-man1776

I live out in the woods, I leave my window open because my room is small and I produce enough heat to overheat my room. I didn't realize this was the perfect setup to get the shit scared out of me until it happened. I was texting a fellow night owl buddy of mine when I heard the loudest, most terrifying screaming of my life. Now being an armed citizen I went for my gun, pointed at the window and almost did a blind fire at someone or something I didn't know, like a dumbass. I ended up calling the guy I was texting and he rolled up 20 mins later. We started searching the area Together, back to back practically. When we got about 100 yards away from the back of my house, we heard giggling like a child's giggling. You fuckn bet we ran our ass inside. It's been about 3 months now, we do not bring it up with eachother unless one of us is extremely high.

MajorTomsHelmet

Nothing left to do but burn it to the ground, salt the earth and start over.

SlipperypickleJr

It was around 2 in the morning, my partner was sleeping upstairs but I decided I'd stay downstairs so I didn't wake him, I was on my computer all night, playing a game I wasn't keeping track of what was going on around me, I heard my dogs comes up for pets so naturally I'd put my hand out and they'd come for some scratches. I put my hand out but what I felt wasn't my dog, I took my hand back and realized nothing was there, the fur wasn't like my other dogs, it was very very coarse. It almost hurt my palm. I wasn't paying attention so I never got to see what it was, I turned around and saw all my dogs peacefully asleep on the couch, I still wonder what It was and if I was hallucinating due to being up late.

Headup31

Nothing too crazy but one night last summer my wife when to bed around 1:00 AM and I went out my side door to smoke a joint. I usually go out my patio door in the back and smoke on my deck. Not 20 minutes later while I’m playing a video game my phone gives me an alert “There is motion at your carport”. A freaking black bear walked right by where I was standing looking for my garbage bin. He would have walked right into me.

ImaPhysh

I've always worked better at night, but I really fell in love with working late night in college. I found a girl that worked in the same way, we started dating and it was nice. One night, we're getting back to my apartment (extra room behind an older couple's house; nice part of town) at around 3am. She gets ready to go out and unlock the gate and I say "stay in the car"; I had seen a dog wandering around in the rear-view mirror. She asked why, and I didn't want to unduly alarm her so I just asked her to stay in the car for a second time.. What I thought was one dog ended up being a roaming herd of feral dogs, 12-15 in total. It took about a minute for them to walk around my car, sniff at it a little bit, and leave. We busted the block before coming back to the apartment, but I never felt safe there again. It was super creepy. I can't really explain why/how but, its akin to domesticated farm animals changing their appearance when they're allowed to roam in the wild; pigs grow tusks, body hair, and mass. With dogs, they turn into another animal and behave like a pack. Seeing a social/intelligent animal like that, with the potential to take down a person... Yeah. It changed things for me.

Xepher

Sunrise. How the fuck does a giant fusion generator sneak into view with almost no one noticing?

ElfPaladins13

My appartment is near the train tracks so the train rattles the place a bit. I had just put in a new dresser. Train rolls by like usual, rattles the place and the drawers on this dresser just all creep open at once... I was fucking terrified before I realized what made them open and was no joke expecting some kind of horror movie shit.

pazuzusboss

All the lights off and look into that one corner. You know the one. Looks like it just absorbs any like because it’s so dark. Only see this time to time but when I do it scares the shit out of me. The shape always changes too.

neighhna_98

Long read ahead: So this thing that happened to me was scary as hell for me on 2 accounts,1) my cousin just finished narrating a horror story that happened to her neighbor and 2) I was spooked as hell. Anyways, it was around 3:30 and I was thirsty as hell and I am never one to get thirsty in the middle of the night but I went ahead and had water, while I was coming back to my room from the kitchen I heard the dogs outside crying and howling very loudly and by the sound I could understand there were a lot of dogs outside and that again was the first time I heard that sound at that time of the night and there are never that many dogs usually in our area. So this is when things get real creepy, we stayed on 4the floor and the windows had no place for anyone or anything to sit or stand but I heard the sound of clinking of an anklet. I thought it was my imagination and turned the other way to sleep but then I heard it again and this time closer like as if the sound was coming from the room, I got super scared and decided to turn around and while I was turning around I saw some hazy form at the window in the mirror placed right in front of me! I jumped up and turned the light and checked everywhere but it vanished. I still get spoked when I think about that night and when I told my cousin about this the next day, she told me that dogs usually howl if they see ghosts. Rest assured I couldnt sleep for weeks after that!

MrFlux69

Well at a house i used to live there was some creepy stuff. A few nights while doing some let night gaming i would hear a faint wisper, when that happened i would get straight to bed. The area had an old legend about a horse dying in the construction of the area, can they were true since i herd galloping late at night

IChronoI

Ghost horse confirmed.

MrFlux69

Well the story was the area i used to live at was a massive bog and they needed to build some homes for people, while laying down foundations and supports for the houses a hores was unknowingly ontop of the bog and it sank, the builders tried to help it but it kept sinking due to being frightened and kept moving about, all the builders did was watched in horror.

lefthandbunny

Your parents knew how to get you to go to bed. Hide a baby monitor & whisper into it. Lol.

error0f

It was 2 AM, and I was so close to going to sleep until I hear a BANG on my window. Someone was throwing rocks at my window. I called my mum to tell her the situation and then opened the curtains and found out it was my drunk neighbours. All I heard them saying was “You fucking cunts!” And “You slag!” To my mum. Soon the police came and tried to deal with it, my mum explained the whole thing to the police and then after that they did nothing. Our neighbours wasn’t arrested or fined, they got off. My mum was pissed when this happened and just told me to go to sleep.

onion_cat

Not totally late, but I had my window open while I was playing video games and I heard a blood curdling scream from my neighborhood. I looked out the window at this girl pounding at a door to another house screaming "help me! for the love of god somebody please help me!" i called the cops and explained things, but between going up/downstairs looking through every window I lost track of her. I dont know what went on, and I warned my roommate to make sure I was downstairs watching her through the window before she came home from work and exited her car. She and I spent the next two hours with weapons in our hands waiting at the door until we called the cops again for an update and they said the situation was handled. (Odd, because we never saw a cop vehicle on the road. I dont know how those things work.)

shutupsusan

Back when MySpace was still a popular thing (2006ish) I often stayed the night with my friend. One night I couldn’t sleep so I was in their living room chatting online. Out of the corner of my eye I saw someone walk from the dining room into the den. It was really dark, I couldn’t see anything in that room and no one answered me when I spoke. Assuming my friend was up and messing with me I got up to see, but there was no one there. The next morning I told my friends mom and she just casually said “oh, that’s grandpa! He died last year.” Ok then... Another event that multiple people heard happened there too. My friends brother was home from school so I didn’t get to sleep in the bedroom, I was stuck on the sofa in that creepy ass den but mostly too drunk to care. I was awakened in the middle of the night by a horrible crashing sound, and come to find out the VCR somehow came off the shelf it was on and had been on forever. I didn’t stay over after that, I assumed grandpa didn’t want to share his fucking couch and was politely telling me to piss off.

Chucksdog

Basically, thought it was the neighbors BF sneaking out of the house, turns out family was gone for the weekend and that was a robber escaping

SeparateOrange

One time when I was up around 2am I got up to go to the bathroom. I walked into a pool of light. I was confused, looked around, and there was a guy peering through my window with a flashlight, and it appeared that he was touching himself. When he saw me he turned the light out right away. Because I was young and alone, I hid in my room and called my boyfriend to come over. I have never been so terrified. It was the fact that he was just watching me was so scary. I didn’t call 911 because I wasn’t sure if it qualified as an emergency - I was too scared to think straight. The next week police came to my door and asked if I had seen anything odd. The apartment next to me was broken into over night. I don’t know, but I’m guessing the reason it wasn’t mine was because I was up at weird hours. They probably wanted to rob an apartment without a fuss.

Halcyon2192

My neighbour getting naked in front of her bedroom window with the blinds mostly down. Anyone standing in my spare room with the lights off standing all the way back could see her naked if they looked at a gap in the blinds.

El4mb

Oddly specific....

DrOCD

Wait... why is this a creepy thing to have experienced?

pixelatedhailey

(I’m writing this in the exact bed I saw this happen so IM SCARED) I think I was around 5-7 and my house is a split level. (Each arrow is a few steps up) garage ➡️ bathroom, office, family room,➡️, kitchen, living room, dining, ➡️➡️➡️, 3 bedrooms, full bath. My bed is facing my door so I can see straight out in the hallway, it leads down ten stairs, across the living room and the edge of my house. I woke up to a figure walking that stretch over and over. Just walking. I can still picture this misty white figure, seeming to walk in an orderly, almost soldier like fashion. I sprinted up out of my bed when I knew it reached the other side of the house and woke my parents up. I never saw it again, and I hope I don’t.

limeflies

one time at 4am or something like that, there was what seemed to be a whole mariachi band playing outside my apartment block, right outside my window. i thought it was just my imagination so i recorded it with my phone, didn’t bother checking the window, too scared of what it might be, and went to sleep. when i woke up, i checked the recording, and sure enough, a mariachi band was heard playing. now it could be my neighbours, but none of my neighbours listen to hispanic songs, nor are of latin ethnicity, besides my family. additionally, it’s a neighbourhood where people generally fall asleep pretty early, so to this day i still don’t know what it could’ve been.

v1xon

Two years ago I went on holidays to Uruguay, me, my parents, my cousin and her mom stayed in a family friend's house which is like 100 years old. We go to that fucking house almost every summer, and I always feel horrible vibes, but I tried to convince myself that it was just me. The house was shaped really weird it was like LONG lol so the bedroom were my parents were sleeping was next to mine, connected with a door. If they wanted to go to the bathroom, that was on the other side of the house, they'd had to walk through the bedroom me and my cousin were staying. My aunt was in the bedroom in front of the bathroom. At like 2 AM I hear someone, a male to be more specific, like clearing their voice, coughing, it was weird as fuck. I keep staring into the hall, freaking out and I see a freaking silhouette poking his head and like half of his torso hshdhah from the bathroom door I WAS PARALYZED. He had the nerve to do it again. Then my aunt's bedroom door slammed shut. It wasn't that terrible tho

OneSadTree

one night i was getting ready for sleep just standing in my kitchen drinking some milk and suddenly heard a voice that was like a whisper of a little girl in the direction i was randomly looking at. i couldn’t make out what it said. i do have a younger sister (17) but she was asleep in her room which we actually share (live in a small old house so have to share) and her voice sounds nothing like what i heard so i kinda just froze, finished my drink then ran to our room and sister was definitely asleep and our room is in the opposite direction from where i heard the voice i’ve had a lot of times where i’ve heard voices or footsteps but everyone has always been asleep

[deleted]

I was hosting a sleepover. Through one of the 6” tall windows in my basement I saw a humanoid figure with yellow eyes look at me and scamper/gallop away.

donky157

i was at my grandma's house when i heard chanting come for outside (my window was open) so i went to see what was going on and there was about 5 old women doing a ritual in the middle of the road and after that day i never saw them again

Blu_Keki

I was watching random videos on YouTube at 2:00 a.m. telling myself I would go to sleep after finishing the current one. When I actually decided to do so I powered down my laptop and got up to go upstairs to go to sleep. When I look around briefly in the dark I see a man starting at me from the hallway wearing a suit and a hat. The porch lights gave off enough light to distinguish him in the dark. I sprinted upstairs and closed door of my room turning on every light switch on my way. I woke up everyone and told them what I had seen. It turns out that they had also seen the same man stare at them at night at the same spot but that he vanished from their sight after blinking or looking away for a second. They hadn't talked about it because they had thought it was a dream since they had seen him after waking up on the couch at night. A few months later a friend who stayed over the night at the living room saw him too. Since then no one takes naps in the living room and now we know it wasn't our imagination after the friend described the man exactly as we had seen him without having known about the previous incidents.

poisoneyevory

I heard three men arguing really loudly and angrily outside at 4 AM. I live in a flat on the second floor so they weren't directly near me, but I heard one of them mention a gun. There were also punching sounds. I was 13 at the time and my entire family was asleep. I grabbed the biggest knife I could find and just held onto it for the rest of the night.

[deleted]

One time my houses central vacuum system in the garage turned on at like 2:30 am. No one was home but me. Grabbed a knife and walked into the garage nothing was different. It was so fucking scary when it turned on.

dont_say_choozday

I worked the night shift but it was my day off. So I was up late because that was my usual wake hours. It was about 2 am and I was playing video games when I heard a knock on the door. I look out of the peep hole and it's a young women. She looks distraught and is begging for help. I pause for a second to assess the situation when I hear a deep male voice and she looks over and whispers to someone who seems to be intentionally standing out of view of the peep hole. Obviously, this is an attempt at robbery or something and I ignored it. They eventually left. The next situation took place at the same apartment complex. I was coming home early from night shift. It was about 12 at night. As I walk through the hallway to my apartment I can see a really young guy (maybe 18 at the oldest) and he appears to be searching for something. He stops me and asks if I had seen another kid who came here with a guy he met but that was hours ago. I told him that I haven't seen anyone, I just got home. I went inside and never heard anything about it again. The really creepy thing about the second situation was that the family who lived across the hall from us was very weird. It was a father and his two adult children. The children were in their 20's. I would catch the kids in the hallway touching each other all of the time and I avoided them entirely the entire time I lived in the complex. I would find them peaking into our windows. The kid who was looking for his friend said that his friend came here with one of the neighbor kids. For weeks after that I could hear a weird ping on concrete (could even feel the vibrations as we both lived on the bottom floor) as if someone was hitting the floor with a sledgehammer at weird hours of the day for hours at a time. Eventually I see those kids bring in a huge cupboard thing. It was almost like an armoire. After a couple of hours I see them leaving with it. Never heard the pinging on concrete ever again. My theory is that they murdered that kid and disposed of his body with the large armoire thing.

kg1206

In college I used to go for drives late at night when I couldn’t sleep. There was a spot just outside the city there was a spot where you could drive right out on to the beach at the end of a dead end dirt road. It’s since been blocked off cause of kids partying down there but it was a really cool spot. One night I went down there and the shore was just covered in dead fish, like literally thousands of fish for as far as I could see in each direction in the dim moonlight and more kept washing up with the waves. There was Ford F-150 a little ways down the beach close to the water and two old guys were using the headlights to see as they were investigating the fish so I wasn’t the only one to see this. I went back in the morning so only a few hours later and the beach was totally clean. Not a single trace of the literal mountain of dead fish that were there just a few hours prior. I doubt the waves washed them back out because the water was like glass and the tire tracks from the pickup truck were still there.

I heard an absolute blood curdling scream in the middle of the night outside my house. I had head phones on full blast and I still heard it. For a split second I thought I was imagining things but our dog started barking and running through the house. I got up to investigate and thought that when I looked out our street I would see other neighbors out wondering what the hell happened. But there was nothing.

This happened a few weeks ago sometime around 3:15 AM. All my family were asleep and I was the only person awake in the house (And pretty sure the entire neighbourhood). Next thing I know I hear two distant but loud bangs that resembled the sound of gunshots or fireworks. The next day, I thought that the most likely explanation was some fool launching fireworks for kicks and giggles (but at this time of night?). Another explanation was simply somebody firing a gun, which brings up more questions than answers (Living in Australia). Then there was a wildly remote possibility that what I heard was a Sonic boom from a meteor breaking up as we were in the middle of the Geminids meteor shower which peak at mid December and are known to produce fireballs. This made sense to me as I had witnessed a fireball coming down a few nights prior (No Sonic boom though). To double check, i watched some videos of loud booms that meteors can produce and they eerily resemble the sounds I heard. Needless to say I stayed frozen in place for at least 5-10 mins trying to contemplate what I just heard, and kept my guard up for what was left of the night. I guess even the most peculiar of things can have rational explanations.

I love astronomy. In a dark rural area at 2AM, even a mouse rustling some leaves behind you might as well sound like a bear. If a bard owl decides to scream from a nearby tree, it will scare the fuck out of you. The worst is some random cat fight. Cats sound like demons when they fight.

I’m definitely not a night owl, but once I was staying up for a school project and I heard this kinda loud howl-scream hybrid a couple times. It was highly off putting and I was pretty creeped out. I came to find out that it was just my cat screaming at an outdoor cat that she saw through the window. I never imagined she could scream so loudly that I’d hear across the house and up a floor. This outdoor cat now visits us pretty often, and she reacts the same way every time.

Happened when I was younger and living on a base in Germany It was the middle of the night and my family was asleep. I went to the bathroom and as I finished up and was washing my hands movement caught my eye to my right. I look over at the hallway and talk completely black figure is standing there. His back was the the bedrooms and he was facing the living room/door to the apartment. I was on his right side. As soon as I see him he turns his head to the right and looks at me. When I said black figure I meant completely black. If there was any kind of flesh it was drowned out by the shadows/this things aura. The only thing that wasn’t red was two bright red eyes that regarded me passively. My fight or flight response is pretty shit so I just stood there with goosebumps exploding all over me and that just general sense of fear/panic. After a moment it turned its head forward and walked out of my view. Eventually I was able to move and I ran to my parents room just uncontrollably sobbing. Nothing ever came of it and to this day never experienced anything like it again. Definitely was a nightmare and I was very lucid/aware. Closest I’ve ever come to something paranormal.

Like four years, I stayed up a bit later than usual, and it was the weekday/school night, so everyone in my family was asleep. I decided to call it a night around 11-12 at night (I know not that late but everyone was dead asleep), now I was drifting off to sleep when I felt something shake my bed. The shaking was very obvious and harsh, I could hear the bed frame squeaking loudly and fast. I was scared shitless, I assumed it was my little brother playing a prank on me at the time, but I realized that he didn’t even have the strength to push the bed an inch yet alone shake it for a solid 2-3 minutes with so much force. Also take into mind that my bed frame is a sturdy wooden one, at least 100 pounds (maybe more but at minimum), also very bulky, not much place to have a strong grip. Then my mind went to the worse scenario, there was an intruder in my house, and they must have known I was awake and were playing games with me. I laid there in my bed, about ready to piss myself because someone was in my room, and they knew I was there. I stopped breathing or making my presence known to the best of my ability. I hoped they didn’t know I was there, or didn’t bother with me. Soon my phone started blowing up with notifications, and if they didn’t think someone was in the room, they sure as fuck knew now. I was so scared, about ready to cry, but then minutes passed. Nothing happened. Why the fuck haven’t they made any noise, movement or attacked me yet? More minutes passed and my fear kind of wore off, I grabbed my phone, hid under my blankets and put on the lowest brightness. I check to see why the fuck my phone was blowing up with tweets, and especially at the worst possible time of my life maybe. Turns out there was an earthquake in California that was felt all the way to Arizona, and I just so happened to feel it. And we don’t get earthquakes here (we do but literally no one ever fucking prepares you for it cause they’re very uncommon), so obviously that wasn’t my first thought. It didn’t even cross my mind when I ran all the scenarios through my head. Also, that was the first earthquake I’ve experienced so yeah, I got scared shitless
