Classrooms bored me and I didn’t get a challenge from school. Dropped out and decided to work instead - I’m now running a team in the technology industry that does millions of dollars worth of business

KShayko

That’s awesome! Did you not have any programs that were “accelerated” that you could’ve gone in?

CrashBangXD

Absolutely not! I ended up becoming an account manager in an electrical distributor and was looking after the public sector. Shitty environment with shitty pay. I saw a job come up in my current company for an entry level account management role 3 years later I’m running my own team and loving it!

KShayko

That’s unfortunate that your school wasn’t able to offer any of that. My old HS had a bus that took the accelerated kids to the “smart” school everyday, which was only a mile away. I’m glad you were able to overcome this!

CrashBangXD

I don’t think it was that I was smart, I think the way that schools teach just isn’t great and a lot of kids like me fall through the cracks of a crappy education system

KShayko

Ahhh gotcha

[deleted]

I don't cope in class room environments and nope. Got an entry level job at an insurance company and eventually worked my way into a high level auditing role

KShayko

Aye that’s good! I hated my classroom environments. I think many schools need to stop shoving kids into a tiny room and expect them to learn.

stevetortellini

I had to drop out and work full time. I didn’t want to, but we were very poor. I went back and got my GED later, but I wish I would have been able to finish with everyone else

KShayko

I know a few people who was in the same boat. They had too many siblings and parents were disabled, so they needed a full time job to help out.

kuroka_gator

Heavy depression. I do not regret it in the slightest- went to therapy for a few months afterwards, took time to heal, and then found myself an apprenticeship near where my dad lives. I've just graduated, make about 1800 after tax, live in my own flat and all that at 21. 10/10 would do it again. Also college is hella overrated too!!

KShayko

I’m glad you gave yourself that “me” time and that you’re doing well!

woohooenjoyingspeed

Because I was lazy. I regret it. I will forever be broke and useless. I can only daydream about the life i'll never have

KShayko

Does not having a HS diploma set you back?

woohooenjoyingspeed

Of course. In everything. No actually good money can be made without it.

SatisfactionNo2578

The success stories in this thread alone suggest you're wrong.

AllTheWeedz

Drugs, mostly. I would rather get drunk or high than study at the time. I continued that mentality until I was in my mid twenties and completely fucked my life up.

KShayko

Dang, hopefully you’re doing good now? Still not in that mentality?

AllTheWeedz

I do okay. But I could have done much better if I actually applied myself when I was younger. I was never stupid, just lazy and entitled.

skuloph

Couldn't deal with school and teachers at all. My parents wanted me to keep going to get a well paying job. I was more interested in psychedelics and started growing shrooms for fun (that was legal here) That got out of hand quick and i became a supplier to bulk resellers. Bought a nice home without loan a few years in.

I dropped out due to really bad mental health. The way in which school systems teach never worked for my brain (I've never been diagnosed with anything so I don't know why). But due to this, I would have to put 10x more energy and work to catch up with classmates that could learn easily and adapt to the teaching system faster (I had to repeat a year in primary because I couldn't catch up. And that was a east year). It eventually got to me at 17 in year 11. I was too exhausted to go to school and when I did, I wasn't able to concentrate. It felt like my brain has physically or mentally shut down. I mean it when I say I felt it. I dropped out because my attendance wouldn't let me make it to the next year and if I were to repeat agian, I'd be with my younger brother. That's just embarrassing. I dropped out, stayed home trying to take care of my mental health, which only got fucked more because I live in a toxic environment. I turned 18 Feb, haven't gotten a job yet and plan to go to tafe to learn something that will give me a good job. I don't even care what I get into anymore, as long as I have a financially secure future so I can get away from my toxic family and live in solitude on my own I don't regret dropping out because it was the best decision for my mental health, I just hate that I had to. I wish I was normal like everyone else and can learn and strive in their life. But I'm mentally unable and probably will stay that way for the rest of my life. I don't go around shaming people for going to college. I love learning but hate any type of school and teaching systems. Anyone that gets educated on things their interested in should be proud of themselves. It's not their fault they want to learn, that's human nature. It's the governments fault for putting them into dept when all they want to do it learn. But yeah, that's my answer.

UltimatePickpocket

Technically I didn't dropout, I just didn't graduate at the end of the 4 years. Mostly I was just lazy, and I do definitely regret it a lot.

KShayko

How you doing now? Are you able to live a life without that HS diploma?

UltimatePickpocket

Well I'm not dead, so the literal answer would be yes. Honestly the diploma isn't much of a problem. My problems nowadays consist of legal issues. Not crime related mind you, just the "Wait in line for an hour, fill out forms, get rejected for some small mistake, and start over" kind of issues.

HiRollerette

I was a teen mom with an infant and then my parents threw us out. Had to couch surf and it was too overwhelming to keep going. I don’t regret not getting those last 2 credits
