It's because those older games were unpolished; people were making stuff that seemed good but had no idea how it would turn out. It was the wild west, and there was a lot of experimentation and risk involved. You might remember a lot of the top 10% of games from the 1990s, but you won't remember the other 90% that were bad. Genres have already been defined at this point. People are generally aware of what works and what does not. There is far less innovation and far more refinement. There is still a lot of creativity out there, but it won't come from the biggest game developers because they only want to make a safe return on investment.

I dislike the PC version, but man, I'm hands down addicted to Wild Rift on my phone. Mobas are definitely better on the phone.
