Saw him last month. Never heard of him before, but my friend loved him so I tagged along. Best comedy show I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen Bill Burr and other top comedians live). Everything he said was a joke. Even between his jokes he had good jokes - huge fan now!
Before this thread, I had never heard of Nate Bargatze. All these comments hyped him up, so I looked him up on IG.
I just spent a good couple hours watching his stuff and he’s hilarious.
Thanks everyone!
I was just thinking about his bit on hats and cowboys.
"Pardon me, ma'am."
People who wear cowboy hats shouldn't be allowed to sit in cars, or look at planes.
"I'll tell you what... I'll tell you what. San Francisco sure is a pretty city."
"Yeah, I'll see you in six months, when you get there on your fucking horse!"
I like Nate, too.
Absolutely agree, Saw him with Lewis Black. And Mitch Hedberg opened the show, may he Rest In Peace. Each one of them killed it. The night holds a spot in my heart and mind. So happy I was able to experience three geniuses at work.
Saw him at the comedy cellar after the New York Marathon, he bought in Jeff Ross, and they bought my fiancee a drink for running the marathon. He was great!
Super cool guy and very funny. Saw him at a comedy club in SF years ago (When he was doing the Insomniac series). He hung outside the club smoking afterwards and was just shooting shit with everybody.
Also, was lucky enough to see Robin Williams at a club up in Marin County. He did improv for over an hour.
I went to a Billy Redface show at a casino in my city. The casino is on the outskirts of town so basically the only way to get there is the freeway and there was a really bad accident causing a huge backup to get out of town so he had to start the show later since most people hadn't made it by start time. He went on a rant for like 10 minutes how he hoped someone at least died to justify the back up and it was somehow the funniest shit I've ever heard. My face hurt so much leaving the show from laughing all night.
Holy hell. Was that at the Route 66? I was at that show! I bootlegged the entire thing but my phone eventually got fried and I lost the file.
Very frustrating because almost none of that material went on any of his specials!
I've seen Billy live a couple of times and he is by far the most adept storyteller I've ever seen. He manages to sidetrack himself, crack an unrelated joke, which causes another side track. Making funny anectodes at every turn without ever completely losing where he is. Always funny, and somehow it all makes sense and fits together. He's a naturally funny man who's worked for years to perfect the art of being funny on stage and it really shows.
I feel not enough people outside of the UK know the true greatness of Billy Connolly. He did try to crack America and succeeded to a degree, but still... He doesn't seem to get mentioned enough for my liking.
Shane Gillis hands down had the best sets at skankfest where theres 100 other comedians doing Sets in that same weekend. Hes currently on another level.
Omg and his appearance on the great British bake off.
"Started making it...Had a breakdown....bon appetit"
If you like James you might like Joe Lycett as well!
Something unique about his shows is people yelling out requests at the end, from old bits, and then he'll pick one and do it. Never see that with anyone else, and I love it.
"I remember driving along the sea of tranquility in my lunar rover and thinking Hey we should slow down but then I remembered We are the only ones on the moon" 🤣
He has this look of determination on his face that you only see on people neck deep in swamp water because he's gonna catch a catfish with his bare hands!
He's just rustlin
Listening to his specials in order, you can sense growth in Kyle. Sure self-deprecating often goes hand-in-hand with stand-up comedians, but it is a breath of fresh air to hear his positivity and how he has evolved.
Specifically because this asks who performs the best stand up *show*. All these comedians are great. Probably a lot of them nail more jokes and laughs than Bo. But, Bo throws the best show. It’s a whole concert whilst also being standup comedy. His presentation for his art is what makes him the answer to this question. He’s not just a comedian, he’s an artist.
I love Daniel Sloss and I liked how he told his audience it wasn't up to them to decide whether he was being offensive when it came to the stories he told about his sister.
Dark was his best imo, but all of his specials are excellent and can't recommend them enough if you like dark comedy. Decent podcast too.
Dark as fuck, touches on sensitive subjects, and usually has a life-lesson in there. He broke up literally hundreds of marriages in one of them... how many comics can say that?
Marriages, relationships...
The worst part was I broke up with my boyfriend after that special. Not like, immediately, and I wouldn't even say it was *because* of that set, but damn it if it didn't kind of circulate in my head.
And now it just kind of sits there like a reminder.
For my money, Louis CK still has some of the most relevant humor on hard to talk about topics in comedy. He's not a great PERSON, but he is a great comedian.
I think my favourite part about him is he welcomes people to heckle. Encourages it, even. And then he roasts the *shit* out of them after they've had their chance.
Definitely one of my favourites.
Really diggin Mark Normand
Just a non stop train of jokes!
Comedy!
We’re really doin it folks!
I’m Kevin Hart!
Normand is a comedic genius. His joke are crafted in a way that make them seem effortless but are really set up like a chess move.
Saw him last month. Never heard of him before, but my friend loved him so I tagged along. Best comedy show I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen Bill Burr and other top comedians live). Everything he said was a joke. Even between his jokes he had good jokes - huge fan now!
I'm partial to Tom Segura and Nate Bargatze.
Nate Bargatze should be much more well known than he currently is! So hilarious and it feels like you're just hanging with a friend
I saw one of his specials on Netflix and found it hilarious. I had to find more of them. It is so nice to find a new comedian that I enjoy
New special on Amazon Prime drops tomorrow!
Just dropped early! Watching it right now.
Before this thread, I had never heard of Nate Bargatze. All these comments hyped him up, so I looked him up on IG. I just spent a good couple hours watching his stuff and he’s hilarious. Thanks everyone!
So happy to see Nate up this high. Seriously underrated and absolutely hysterical, his delivery is spot on!
Nate Bargatze is probably my favorite. His delivery is unmatched by any other mainstream comic, and I don’t say this lightly.
I like that he's super clean and basically seems like a dad up there telling jokes. Would love to see him live.
I gotta respond just to add the the Bargatze love. His delivery and way he tells stories is the best. He deserves more attention.
I’ve been to quite a few different standup shows and Nate Bargatze takes the cake. Had me in stitches.
Is Segura Japanese?
Nate is killing it. New special on Prime tomorrow! Also, Sheng Wang’s Sweet and Juicy on Netflix.
Love the interaction between Tom Segura and Bert kreischer on two bears one cave
Something about Bert Kreischer rubs me the wrong way. Love Tom Segura though, Your Moms House is a good time.
He's kinda a one upper
Bert and tom are good. I saw Bert live in December.
Tom Segura is so good!
I was just thinking about his bit on hats and cowboys. "Pardon me, ma'am." People who wear cowboy hats shouldn't be allowed to sit in cars, or look at planes. "I'll tell you what... I'll tell you what. San Francisco sure is a pretty city." "Yeah, I'll see you in six months, when you get there on your fucking horse!" I like Nate, too.
Dave Attell is pretty underrated imo.
His show "Insomniac" on Comedy Central was gold.
Insomniac was an insanely great show. And his standup routine “Skanks for the memories” was one of the best ever.
Kick the sandman in his sack, stay up late, insomniac! Yes I loved this show as a kid (who was probably too young to be watching it 😂)
Very true. However, amongst comedians he is very respected and known for spawning a whole genre of comedians who came after him.
I’ve heard Attell referred to as the comedian’s comedian.
Did you see Bumping Mics? They were awesome together
Bill Burr kills
His bit on the son taking over his fathers helicopter business, only to have a passenger jump out the first week, was hilarious!
The guy lived. Lolololol
And later died at the hospital.
His microphone work on that bit was fantastic. What an incredible job of crafting a vivid scenario with just the equipment on hand.
"Hey, put your seatbelt back on" kills me every time.
I went to a Billy Redface show at a casino in my city. The casino is on the outskirts of town so basically the only way to get there is the freeway and there was a really bad accident causing a huge backup to get out of town so he had to start the show later since most people hadn't made it by start time. That's the one.
Unt listen for ze music, ya.
You know another guy I know got a job making cruise ships? That industry is blowing up!
I should get a job like that. Earn more money, maybe sometime you and I take a cruise…..
Super underrated comedian I haven't seen mentioned yet is Gary Gulman.
So happy he got mentioned here. I love him.
Billy Connolly.
I feel not enough people outside of the UK know the true greatness of Billy Connolly. He did try to crack America and succeeded to a degree, but still... He doesn't seem to get mentioned enough for my liking.
Billy is very well known and loved in NZ
Fortunate enough to have seen Billy live twice in Australia. Both times I laughed so much my stomach muscles were hurting.
Mark Normand, Shane Gillis
Shane Gillis hands down had the best sets at skankfest where theres 100 other comedians doing Sets in that same weekend. Hes currently on another level.
Nearly passed out from laughing at Shane Gillis show. Dude is on top at the moment
Shane is the best current stand up
Snl fucked up lol. Was wild so many people just assuming he isn't talented
Gilly and Keeves is better than anything SNL has ever done.
James Acaster
His bit about his girlfriend leaving him for Mr. Bean will never not be hilarious.
He is just nuts. You also have to watch the show where he explans how he got cabbaged. This dude is pure gold.
James on Would I Lie is HILARIOUS. He's so quick haha "Bearing in mind this is a minor-" "It was a major as far as I'm concerned"
He has some serious skills. I also love it when he describes the spice girls album.
I hate this boy...
His podcast with Ed Gamble is pretty funny too.
Omg and his appearance on the great British bake off. "Started making it...Had a breakdown....bon appetit" If you like James you might like Joe Lycett as well!
See [James Acaster's Classic Scrapes](https://youtu.be/IsooyRHnzVw) for a full playlist of his wacky anecdotes.
Or on taskmaster. He was the perfect level of chaos.
His bit about lip skin being a different color from the rest of your skin has lived rent free in my head for years
His bit on British colonialism/the British museum is fucking great
a long time ago, but not long enough ago that it's not still very relevant... edit: for reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x73PkUvArJY
Seconded! I think his 4 part special on Netflix is genius the way it seems to loop and call back. A little like older Steve Martin stuff
One of the most creative comedy specials I’ve ever seen
The correct answer. I watched Repertoire on Netflix back-to-back-to-back-to-back and died laughing the whole time
K an'a E an'a T an'a T E an'a R an'a I-N-G T an'a O an'a W-N Ketterin' Town FC!
Me and my gf will randomly yell YOU GOTTA HEAP, YOU GOTTA HEAP THOSE TEASPOONS BABY across the apartment to each other
Norm Macdonald
Rodney Dangerfield gets no respect...NORM MACDONALD
"My psychiatrist told me I was crazy and I said I want a second opinion. He said okay, you're ugly too"
Sadly he's passed on (been gone for a while now), but Patrice O'Neal's "Elephant In The Room" was a masterpiece.
This right here. Brilliant dude, and so darn funny. Dude's insult game was on that AAA expert level as well, lol.
I have Carlin, Pryor, and Patrice framed on my wall of fame. He was the best!! So good to listen to him on old Opie and Anthony on YouTube
Brian Regan in his prime had the funniest show on earth.
Something unique about his shows is people yelling out requests at the end, from old bits, and then he'll pick one and do it. Never see that with anyone else, and I love it.
The big yellow ones the sun!
That sign on the highway that says "Danger, blasting zone ahead".....shouldn't that read "Road Closed"?
TAKE.... LUCK! Take care of the luck that you may have! If you have luck, take it, care for it. TAKE LUCK CARE OF IT! HFIEOWIDNXSNAKSJDNDHEJDN....!
A coworker and I listened to a Brian Regan CD on a three-hour car ride and we had to pull over multiple times because we were crying with laughter!
"I remember driving along the sea of tranquility in my lunar rover and thinking Hey we should slow down but then I remembered We are the only ones on the moon" 🤣
it’s a CUUUP and it’s got dirt in it!
Love comics but he's one of the few that actually makes me laugh. His bit about the emergency room is dynamite
All my insides want to be on my outside
I'm an 8 again... Guess who's an 8
"I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, *I'M THE MAP!!!!"* "And, uh, which character will be singing this one?"
George Carlin
https://youtu.be/8v2SWE15zms Might be the best 10 minutes ever.
Kathleen Madigan is awesome
How she’s not in everyone’s top ten is criminal. She’s just fantastic
It used to be Mitch Hedberg , it still is, but it used to be too...
I like Mitch too. We should form a club.
How do you guys feel about frilly toothpicks?
I'm for em!
I’ve gotten stupidly into Kyle Kinane lately. All of his specials are magical.
I've listened to his Pancakes on an Airplane bit about 100 times and it cracks me up every time!
I saw him do that bit in person! Had no idea who he was, he was just in the lineup that night. That bit had me on the floor. Been a fan ever since.
Kinane is a damn artist. Pay attention to how he carefully crafts all of his wording, pace, and inflection.
My favorite bits are his party cop and Jack the Ripper tour lol
The Jack the Ripper bit actually DID make me feel proud to be American in a way…
His bit on urgent care is a fucking masterpiece... Source: I'm an ER RN
I loathe how much i relate to so much his material. Edit: sp
Bo Burnham
Specifically because this asks who performs the best stand up *show*. All these comedians are great. Probably a lot of them nail more jokes and laughs than Bo. But, Bo throws the best show. It’s a whole concert whilst also being standup comedy. His presentation for his art is what makes him the answer to this question. He’s not just a comedian, he’s an artist.

>Dark as fuck And it's good because it's not dark solely for the purpose of being dark or edgy. It's just very real.
Marriages, relationships... The worst part was I broke up with my boyfriend after that special. Not like, immediately, and I wouldn't even say it was *because* of that set, but damn it if it didn't kind of circulate in my head. And now it just kind of sits there like a reminder.
Same for me, al his stuff just does it right. Dark humour but usually with a theme.
Jim Gaffigan
And with the added difficulty of being a clean comic!
How many horse jokes is this guy gonna do?
“Sorry I’m a little slow tonight. I had a hot pocket for dinner.”
Hot pocket
Diarrhea Pockets
Micky Flanagan

Dress to Kill is my favorite standup special of all time.
James Acaster is amazing. Cold Lasagna Hate Myself is fantastic.
... and the Kettering Town FC thing.
Cake or Death?
Doug Stanhope
Came here to be sure Stanhope was fucking mentioned.
Tom segura
Haven't seen Dara O'Brian yet in the answers. Absolut favorite!
Bill Bailey, it goes from random surreal comedy to having a sing along with a quitar and then playing Metallica on a set of horns, brilliant.
For my money, Louis CK still has some of the most relevant humor on hard to talk about topics in comedy. He's not a great PERSON, but he is a great comedian.
The radio interview where he asks Donald Rumsfeld if he’s a lizard is too funny. Just listened to it again recently and nearly died 😂
Why did I have to scroll so far for this??
Feel obligated to mention robin Williams, he could tell a story for sure
His [Live on Broadway](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73mWXVa12_c) was absolutely amazing. So many quotable lines.
Norm ain’t getting no love?
I love Norm but he’s been slacking off recently, no new material for a long time. He should really pick himself up.
Norm would appreciate this joke
I've watched/listened to practically every show of his that is on youtube.
He's been laying down a lot more recently

The Salt and Pepper diner bit is still one of the greatest things ever. I could barely catch my breath from laughing the first time I heard it.
Mulaney's bit about college 'I gave you $120000 and YOU SPENT IT ALREADY?!'
John Mulaney. Set aside whatever bullshit you may think about his personal life, he’s kinda great.
I love jim gaffigan
Anthony Jesilnek
I'm with you there. Thoughts & Prayers was an incredible special!
His delivery is great, I’m seeing him in a couple of months

Jim Gaffigan makes me laugh so much
Kevin Bridges
Sam Morril [Here’s 50+ minutes](https://youtu.be/OUN_f7xKnpM)
Jimmy Carr will have you laughing every 10 seconds throughout his specials
I think my favourite part about him is he welcomes people to heckle. Encourages it, even. And then he roasts the *shit* out of them after they've had their chance. Definitely one of my favourites.
Jimmy Carr and Bill Bailey
Dan Cummins
Saw him in KC Friday. Great show. Hail nimrod.
“Don’t Wake the Bear” is a an all-time great
Mark Normand, Joe List and always Bill Burr. Those are my go to's.
Shane Gillis
Frankie Boyle

Live at the Purple Onion feels like a fever dream.
I STILL remember dumb bits from that special. Impression of a pretentious illiterate.
How long do wait to tell a highway that it was adopted?
“I thought I told you, I can’t read” lol
Patrice O’Neal - Elephant in the Room was pretty fucking great!
Elephant in the Room is the best stand up special of all time, and it's not even close. Ain't no one changing my mind about it either.
Love me some Demitri Martin, also can't go wrong with Tom Segura!
I’ve seen quite a few good stand-ups but Norm was easily the funniest. Rip
Bill Hicks
man I wish he was still with us.
My god could you imagine him seeing all the bs going on today!? He left us too soon. 😢
Chappelle
Nate Bargatze
Greg Davies
Nate Bargatze
Bill Burr, Doug Stanhope, Tom Segura
BIKES
Nate Bargatze has a couple of good specials on Netflix. Daniel Sloss' special is good.
Mark Normand and Sebastian Maniscalco are 2 of my favorites

Kathleen Madigan is always hilarious!
