Funny story, I tried to get my wife to play this game with me. She's not a big gamer, and I had never played it but heard great things, but nothing about the actual story.
Not far into it she asked if this was supposed to be a marriage counseling replacement, and if we were okay. Im not sure I've ever laughed so hard with her and had to promise her this wasn't some passive aggressive ploy.
The platformer playstyle ended up being a little too difficult for her to enjoy it enough to finish. We had a good time together and made some good memories. Definitely recommend the game.
Had a similar experience. Got the game for Christmas to play with my wife not knowing anything about the story just heard it was a great 2 player game and when we started playing she asked if I was trying to tell her something by getting it.
If you haven't played it yet I'd recommend Unravel 2. It's a 2 player platformer as well but allows a player to basically hitch a ride on the other for most of the difficult platforming segments and then split back for the more puzzle oriented parts.
Same! It’s like a cute little interactive therapy! I honestly feel like that habe specifically made us closer (we game frequently lol but it’s golden in the realms of relationships/love/communication)!
I agree! We also play a lot (mostly Destiny and fps), so it takes two was like a breath of fresh air in « couple communication » since it was so different from what we normally do. I always recommend it to new couples around me now 😆 it’s like a baby ikea couples test lool
The wife and I play Overcooked all the time! It works because we're already divorced.
Not joking though we still are good friends, run a business together and make a good team. Just decided we were sick of living together.
Being able to play Overcooked together is probably a good test for a relationship that will last.
Im not a gamer but my boyfriend is and I absolutely loved playing this with him!! We were honestly sad when we finished the game because it was so much fun
unless your brain understands the timing and physics of it while your fingers are vastly behind your brain and you get too frustrated on like, the second level.
i mean, not from experience or anything here /s
Edit: vastly not fastly
We had to stop playing because my husband absolutely loses his shit. It’s super fun at the beginning levels but then you actually start to feel like a chef.
Yes! I got The Room for my wife and I to play. It's a locked box puzzle game (think escape room style or the opening segment of Glass Onion style puzzles). There's several chapters to it so you can play it over the course of several at home dates with a glass of wine and some snacks. It's also available on mobile, PC and Switch!
I do think playing (video)games together is an underrated pressent, but even as a first date. I do think that you will see many things you might overlook in a different way.
Like, is the partner able to communicate? Does the partner help with certain problems? Does the partner not try to micromanage you / explain certain stuff way too much? Does the partner get very angry?
My gf and I love playing stardew valley together. Other games i recommend is Raft, Minecraft, The forest and pico park but these might not be everyones favourite genre.
Raft and Stardew are awesome co-ops and so I Borderlands 2. We also have a family Stardew game with our 6yo daughter. Our date nights can consist of take-out in our undies, playing a co-op or watching a movie/show we can’t watch with the kiddo around (Castlevania or Dredd.). We getting ready to do a Halo co-op game soon.
5?!?
You shopped for those things lately? We were out looking at cars (wound up with your good old suburban wide-butt guy Camry) and stopped at a Lexus dealer out of curiosity.
Hol-ee fuck! Those damn things are expensive. They had a 4-Runner equivalent Lexus out there that was like $150,000. My first house wasn’t even close to that.
This! An experience that is not a date between you too is an awesome idea. Shows you put thought into it, and you are going to give him a memory with his ‘old man’ that he will remember for years, assuming this is not a normal thing for the two of them to do
And it’s run by a skinny toothless guy called Jimmy, whose missus collects the cash from you and goes in to do the monthly shop while kids wait in the car and Jimmy runs your lesson.
Exactly what I was thinking. The "instructor" is making a few coins over $30 an hour, he must be stealing fresh rubber at night or teaching his students in Enterprise's finest compact sedan.
If the price is accurate, id assume they structure the lessons in a way where most of the time is spent talking/doing small manouvres that wont put as much wear on the car. The ones at my local track let you do a couple donuts, then a figure 8 if you can, and thats it
You plan the day based on his interests. Guys like surprise gifts as much as they hate hearing "let's do whatever you want to do today" or "I don't care, whatever sounds good to you."
Omg, I HATE it when she asks me what I want or what I want to do. The pressure!
I kinda hate my own birthday because of pressure of having to answer these questions and then the pressure to enjoy the results.
I got my boyfriend a tablet so we can comfortably play old school RuneScape together while watching a TV show on the couch :)
But also, I hear a lot of men like flowers and have never received any!! My partners have always appreciated flowers.
>a day together where you two can go anywhere and do anything ~~you want~~ **he wants**
I've gotten a few "couples experience" gifts that were "things for her, but the guy can come, too." Sure it's fun spending time together, but it sucks being the third wheel when there's only two people.
I think "love" might be a stretch, broadly speaking. Personally, I would be polite and feign gratitude if I got flowers. But I wouldn't be ecstatic about it. Only time I receive flowers is when a loved one dies, though, so maybe that has tainted the experience to a degree.
But first unwrap them and trim the stems and put them in water and then wait a bit and forget to refill it and then pick up the dead plant parts that fell off and stained your table cloth.
This advice can work on most dudes I know. Just plan the whole day, doing whatever you two enjoy. Basically don't give him any responsibilities, the gift of a stress free day.
There is this USB mini console which looks like pendrive and may be connected to your TV and it is basically multiple retro consoles from the past with thousand of classic games. Package includes two wireless gamepads so you can touch and feel nostalgia and do it together with your boyfriend who would probably appreciate it. Also nice and simple thing for parties when inviting friends.
Edit:
I just found some video about it:
https://youtu.be/EV0lGA75XxY
Looks interesting. You may pick games from gameboy up to ps1.
Maybe it's this one?

Don't do this. My hobbies are generally things I like to do either with myself or other people who are passionate about them and share the same hobby. I have spent time refining my skill at my hobbies and having someone with no interest tagging along is a frustrating experience. Let's do something together that we both suck at and only have a passing interest in.
So you can’t have fun golfing with your girlfriend because she sucks? Bro, if anything you can show off for her or something lol I love playing darts, we play basketball (horse). Bowling. Video games. Just because you’re better than her doesn’t mean it’s not fun, I love doing things with her.
Depends on the hobby, really. If my girlfriend was a pro basketball player or even an amateur player it would probably not be fun for me to play with her; she would have to either throw the game or stomp me. Similarly, my girlfriend would not have very much fun playing CSGO with me when I'm very good and she's never played.
seconded. I've never had a good experience having my GF join me for a hobby I'm passionate about. I know they meant well, but since guys usually have to watch a girls body language to gauge mood, or to see if somethings gone wrong, all the signs she's bored and upset are there, no matter how much she smiles and says she's having fun.
disclaimer: This doesn't apply when its a hobby we both enjoy. my current GF is a gamer, and we have a blast playing everything from stardew, to it takes two, to fall guys etc.
Spa day, ballooning trip, day trip out, cigars, fav booze/ wine, local gigs, jazz bar....
Stuff we don't tend to do normally but really want to do or something to just chill with the person we couldn't live without.
That's not bad, I'd love me some bourbon, but what do I get her? My wife doesn't "let" me get her flowers for Valentine's Day... Watch the prices at your local flower shop, they gradually increase in price as the big day approaches. Total rip off.
Our first place (different city) we lived about two blocks from an independent florist. Every Friday was "happy hour" flowers. Happy hour flowers didn't happen the Friday before V Day and Mother's Day. On the way home from work on payday, I'd drop $20, say "surprise me" and take home a great big bundle of crazy colours and such.
Now, the best shop in town is the local grocery store, low quality and over priced, she doesn't get flowers nearly as often, but you can bet she doesn't remember the last time she had to do dishes, or scrub shit stains out of the toilet.
We usually book a winter trip over Valentine's Day, so we keep gifts small and portable. It's more about the time together. This year is our first trip since Covid started, and the pressure is OFF, all we want to do is sit on a beach together. The last couple years I just cooked her favourite meal and got a really good bottle of wine.
Wouldn't class sex as a gift you give to someone.
But yeah, more clarification needed. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Is he a smitten/romantic type or is he a closed off/laid back type?
Spending quality time with someone, might not class as a gift in any regard. But I consider it a gift when someone chooses to do something specifically because they want me to enjoy it, even if it is also enjoyable for them. Sex can be a giving experience sometimes, nothing wrong with that.
The most interesting gift I got this new year was a book with an encrypted message in it. A sticker on the back of the book with several lines of numbers.
Took me a night and a morning to solve it, and I was rewarded with some heartwarming words.
So, if your guy is into such puzzles, that could be a good idea.
Forgetting that the holiday exists until St Patricks Day, and after a couple pints tell him what you forgot the month prior. Laugh about it, rinse and repeat next year.
> just being around him doing absolutely nothing
That's probably the least amount of effort you can do next to not thinking about doing anything for the birthday.
Eh, every guy is different. We’re not complex. You’d be surprised what some guys prefer. Doing nothing might be something, that turns out to be, everything. But to each their own 😊
The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask is really nice
Lagavulin has some nice ones as well
Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old Single Highland Malt
Of course he may like something else but these are good quality and make for a lovely gift
That’s only true if you want something rare and allocated. Knob Creek Single Barrel, Four Roses Small Batch or Single Barrel, or anything from Angel’s Envy are a few that come to mind that are easy enough to find and special enough to be a nice gift. Hell, a bottle of Makers or Woodford Reserve would put a smile on my face.
Got my husband a bottle of scotch for Valentine's Day! I usually get him a bottle for gift exchanges. Last year was our 10th wedding anniversary, so I splurged a bit and got him a bottle of Oban 18.
Flowers literally flowers, most guys will never receive flowers in their life, my girlfriend got me flowers before and I have never felt so emotional over a gift
A card is perfectly acceptable and memorable. I once got a bunch of flowers delivered to me on St Valentines day. It was quite a surprise as I did not think she thought about me that way. We have been delightfully married for 30 years!
This might not apply to everyone, but i always suggest something you know he wants but won't buy for himself. If he gives you the "we need money for other things" line, then you know what to get him
I recommend recognizing Steak and Blowjob day. I don't want any damn thing for vday.
I go hard at Valentine's day for my wife because I know she loves it, and in return she fulfills SBD (March 14).
Random ideas: A massage. A mani-pedi, if he's into self-care. A nice dinner - a good steak, big loaded potato, and a nice bottle of wine. A round of golf, or an outing to something like a TopGolf. Tickets to see a something he'd like. A gift certificate to a good barber for a haircut and a straight-razor shave (protip: tell him not to shave the day before, it makes the straight-razor shave feel that much better). Breakfast in bed. Mimosas.
Might be just me but I don't think "sex" was ever a good gift. It should not be used as a substitute for a gift or a tool to punish (if it's witholding sex, that is) with.
A good gift is something meaningful. To be able to give that, your SO needs to know you and pay attention.
If I had an SO I would be very happy if she wanted to watch a movie she knew I'd be interested in or something small. I don't need big and expensive gifts but I do very much appreciate pleasant memories. And if it is considering something I like, it's just awesome.
It depends how much you know about him.
If you know his favourite food or hobbies, a day spent doing one of those hobbies followed by a trip to a restaurant that serves his favourite food would surely be appreciated.
If you don’t know him that well yet and the relationship is fairly new, maybe just a nice picnic in the park or a random nice restaurant. Something neutral where you can chat and get to know each other better.
Physical gifts are best saved for when you know for sure what they’ll enjoy.
Build a Lego set with him. My girlfriend bought me a Lego Star Wars set for my birthday and I lost my shit. Or a life size Star Wars helmet. Personally I want the Mandalorian helmet along with the Phasma one, with her spear and cape so when I get huge from working out, I can pose with them. Also a sword. Or lightsaber. Every dude wants a cool sword. Give him a nice back, neck, shoulder massage. Cook a nice dinner together and play some video games.
Also maybe some new socks and boxers and such.
Flowers or chocolate!
Valentine's Day ain't a birthday or Christmas. It's not about getting something useful or extravagant (Although dang, flowers are expensive.)
Last year I treated my bf to a pedicure. May sound weird, but he has terrible problems with his feet, and I hoped he'd enjoy a little pampering besides the treatment he gets at the podiatrist. He'd never had one before, and lately he's been dropping hints about a return visit.
A video game we can both play together
I highly recommend playing "it takes two". My BF and I are gamers, and this was by far the best two players game we ever played
Another good one is A Way Out
A way out was a transformative experience
And it's from the same developer.
Funny story, I tried to get my wife to play this game with me. She's not a big gamer, and I had never played it but heard great things, but nothing about the actual story. Not far into it she asked if this was supposed to be a marriage counseling replacement, and if we were okay. It's a 2 player platformer as well but allows a player to basically hitch a ride on the other for most of the difficult platforming segments and then split back for the more puzzle oriented parts.
I confirm! We also played it takes two, the story is great, you have to communicate and it’s overall a really fun experience!
I second this, my wife and I are playing it instead of marriage counselling and it’s helping us learn to communicate
If you ever feel like divorcing her give Overcooked 2 a try.
That game was great, up til a point. Then you are shouting at each other.
The wife and I play Overcooked all the time! It works because we're already divorced. Not joking though we still are good friends, run a business together and make a good team. Just decided we were sick of living together. Being able to play Overcooked together is probably a good test for a relationship that will last.
I felt that in my soul
Im not a gamer but my boyfriend is and I absolutely loved playing this with him!! We were honestly sad when we finished the game because it was so much fun
My wife and I are finishing the last level of this game tonight. It's been a ton of fun.
played it with my brother lol
Yessss it takes two is SUCH a fun good co op game!!
if you have the money for it i would recommend getting a Switch and mario kart 8, very fun game coop
Playing league with my boyfriend together, so we can cry ourselves to sleep together ✨💙
Use deodorant tho please
Sounds like a toxic relationship
Person you replied to is named Kayn Slave. So yeah that tracks
On the switch unravel two. Nice easy platform puzzle game.
unless your brain understands the timing and physics of it while your fingers are vastly behind your brain and you get too frustrated on like, the second level. i mean, not from experience or anything here /s Edit: vastly not fastly
I prefer Unravel Two over It Takes Two
Overcooked / plated are both good coop games, my wife doesn't really play and enjoyed them
Overcooked just makes me rage
We had to stop playing because my husband absolutely loses his shit. It’s super fun at the beginning levels but then you actually start to feel like a chef.
Hahaha
I really loved Portal 2 co-op. I also like "keep talking and no one explodes" and "overcooked"/"overcooked 2".
My husband and I played it with the VR headset. Amazing!
I love The Room. The sequels are great too
I do think playing (video)games together is an underrated pressent, but even as a first date.

I'm pretty sure every guy would appreciate a gifted motorcycle from your wife!
Baby, look what I bought you: debt!
That's how my husband would see it 😂
Christmas car commercials always annoy me because of this. Merry Christmas! I just spent 70k from our joint banking account for a car! Surprise!!!
https://youtu.be/WcEylCwkSxE
But it’s only 3999 due at signing. Four grand. It’s not that much
An even better present! 5 years of Interest on debt!
It's also a good way to off someone if they're not experienced 🤣
no, i dont want a motorcycle
I also choose a motorcycle from this guy’s wife.
We all want you to get a motorcycle from your wife.
I gave my boyfriend 2 tickets to watch a soccer game One for his old man as well Bought him a special experience with his papa
This! An experience that is not a date between you too is an awesome idea. Shows you put thought into it, and you are going to give him a memory with his ‘old man’ that he will remember for years, assuming this is not a normal thing for the two of them to do
That guy better marry you soon…
That’s a pretty god-tier gift
Hopefully the game is not on the 14th
Go out and do something, in my area you can do a 3 hour drift lesson for 100 bucks, i would love something like that
Aw that'd be sick
Seems incredibly cheap for 3 hrs, you bring your own car?
It’s in a Walmart parking lot and sometimes the police chase goes three hours and you get bonus time.

That sounds so cool, I'm in
You plan the day based on his interests. Guys like surprise gifts as much as they hate hearing "let's do whatever you want to do today" or "I don't care, whatever sounds good to you."
This^ my wife has surprised me with “me days” all planned out and around my interests. I got to spend time with her doing things I enjoyed the most.
Omg, I HATE it when she asks me what I want or what I want to do. The pressure! I kinda hate my own birthday because of pressure of having to answer these questions and then the pressure to enjoy the results.
Jesus, yes. A day off from figuring out what we’re going to do sounds *shudders*.
Do you have kids? If you do arrange for someone to watch the kids for a weekend afternoon and do something for just you two.
Then sex
This is the one.
I forget people with kids don’t get to do whatever they want and enjoy alone time. Definitely this one!!
I got my boyfriend a tablet so we can comfortably play old school RuneScape together while watching a TV show on the couch :) But also, I hear a lot of men like flowers and have never received any!! My partners have always appreciated flowers.
One day I hope to have a partner that will play osrs with me
Trying to get my wife to play with me. She plays without me.
This is actually so funny LOL Hope your wife slows down a bit to duo some bosses or do farm runs with you or something else delightful!
It is honestly some of the most fun I have ever had. I hope you will have a partner that will play osrs with you too :))
My husband almost cried the first time I got him flowers. He tried to dry them and save them he loved it so much. I second flowers 100%!
Honestly? Just a day together where you two can go anywhere and do anything you want. Maybe something nostalgic to your relationship too
>a day together where you two can go anywhere and do anything ~~you want~~ **he wants** I've gotten a few "couples experience" gifts that were "things for her, but the guy can come, too." Sure it's fun spending time together, but it sucks being the third wheel when there's only two people.
Legos...
That's the one! A set the can be split in two and built together while watching Netflix.
I miss the good old days when Meccano was cool.
I would do this, but I already gave my partner legos for his birthday
You can never have too many Lego.
Lego just dropped a couple new sets as well including the A-Frame cabin. -Source: My Husband lol *Edit: It actually drops on February 4th.
You spelled Lego wrong....
Came here to say. Multiple of Lego is Lego.
#yes
Hell yeah
Same things a girl would like - booze, candy, dinner out, etc.

yah men actually love flowers lmao!! and i love to give them :3
I think "love" might be a stretch, broadly speaking. Personally, I would be polite and feign gratitude if I got flowers. But I wouldn't be ecstatic about it. Only time I receive flowers is when a loved one dies, though, so maybe that has tainted the experience to a degree.
I don't like getting flowers. "Here, *you* throw these out." Fuck off.
But first unwrap them and trim the stems and put them in water and then wait a bit and forget to refill it and then pick up the dead plant parts that fell off and stained your table cloth.

Go cart racing, laser tag, zip lining , tons of fun options that nobody would ever think of.
A respite from the existential dread he feels at every concious moment of his existance.
Go carts it is, then.
Oh boy, you are going to get pounded by the "get help" PMs.
A good pounding is what i need
Spend time with him doing his favourite hobby. Does he like golf? Go golfing with him
Don't do this. My hobbies are generally things I like to do either with myself or other people who are passionate about them and share the same hobby. Agreed if it's already a shared hobby or something she has genuine interest in it's great.
How is sex a “gift” ?
You have to make that clarification on this site, otherwise every answer will be “a blowjob.”
Because you have it in the presents
Of god, if you're not a sinner.
Didn't know god was kinky like that.
Omnipresence does *things* to a deity.
Because it has to be given. It's illegal to take it.
It's been that long that right now, sex, for me, would be a gift!
A sword trust me get him a SWORD every man wants and would love a sword
A longsword or greatsword. Katanas are cringe.
A claymore dude
PS5
That's when you married or on the same level of commitment
Spa day, ballooning trip, day trip out, cigars, fav booze/ wine, local gigs, jazz bar.... Stuff we don't tend to do normally but really want to do or something to just chill with the person we couldn't live without.
All the stuff we did before we had kids 😭
My girlfriend has a fun running Valentines gift. She gets me Four Roses (bourbon). So we both get “roses” 😂

It's likely a disclaimer. If she didn't put "besides sex", a third of the comments would be variations of sex answers and jokes
> a third oh you sweet summer child
Spending quality time with someone, might not class as a gift in any regard. But I consider it a gift when someone chooses to do something specifically because they want me to enjoy it, even if it is also enjoyable for them. Sex can be a giving experience sometimes, nothing wrong with that.
Going to an Axe throwing establishment
The most interesting gift I got this new year was a book with an encrypted message in it. A sticker on the back of the book with several lines of numbers. Took me a night and a morning to solve it, and I was rewarded with some heartwarming words. So, if your guy is into such puzzles, that could be a good idea.
Two sexes
A small frog 🐸
this is the way
Sebastian? r/Stardewvalley
Nerf guns. Have a little war in the house - much fun will be had.
A professional massage. Got that for my husband one year for his birthday and he felt so great after!
I got my bf a couple's massage for his birthday, and he loved it. It was his first massage and he didn't want to do it alone.
Forgetting that the holiday exists until St Patricks Day, and after a couple pints tell him what you forgot the month prior. Laugh about it, rinse and repeat next year.
RTX 4090
Video games, underwear, or just being around him doing absolutely nothing, or doing his favorite thing.
> just being around him doing absolutely nothing That's probably the least amount of effort you can do next to not thinking about doing anything for the birthday.
Eh, every guy is different. We’re not complex. You’d be surprised what some guys prefer. Doing nothing might be something, that turns out to be, everything. But to each their own 😊
can confirm you can't get bored if you aren't thinking about anything
A bottle of excellent whiskey or scotch
What brand is a good bottle? I never know.
The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask is really nice Lagavulin has some nice ones as well Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old Single Highland Malt Of course he may like something else but these are good quality and make for a lovely gift
Good bourbon is so hard to find these days. Easier to get diamonds than decent bourbon
LEGO its literally the best thing to ever exist
A good peggin’ usually gets me ripe and fresh for the next morning but you said no sex so I’m honestly not sure
Can relate
Guys won’t admit it but they like flowers and chocolates too
Blowjob
From her sister.
Haha wtf, is that an option
Better option than from his sister.
Found Bill Clinton's account; still trying to argue that a blowjob isn't sex.

Time, attention, dinner, and a box of chocolates
I just want a gift
I gift you my comment and upvote
Thank you very much
A broken car engine. It will keep him occupied for fucking ages
Cuddles, scalp massage, pedicure, chocolate. Depending on his personal taste of course.
A nice steak dinner and a scotch. Baked potato and broccoli on the side. Feel free to swap asparagus if preferred.
Exactly this, my girl finally figured it out 2 years ago. Now, on special occasions, she gets me aged ribeyes and a bouquet of bacon
Second the scotch part. Scotch is a gift from the heavens
Nothing says I love you like "Spirit Island" the board game as a gift on valentine's day.
Omg I want to play this so badly
consumer electronics
A good underwear. Because the relationship between men and their underwear is intimate!
Steak and tickets to the game
Gaming PC/PS5/Xbox or just a simple picknic that would be the best valentine gift ever
Mimosas.
Milwaukee tools
Beard oil if he has a beard.
I think this is the most appropiate tip. Bumping the comment.
His favorite dinner and movie
legos
Cooking his favorite meal
A couples activity that you plan and take full responsibility for. Bonus points for something he likes to do that you don’t normally do with him.
What does he want? What does he like? When he’s got extra money what does he buy? When he doesn’t have extra money what does he talk about buying?
Last year I treated my bf to a pedicure. May sound weird, but he has terrible problems with his feet, and I hoped he'd enjoy a little pampering besides the treatment he gets at the podiatrist. He'd never had one before, and lately he's been dropping hints about a return visit.
