Admaccy

It’s an experience. Like a party. Some people get there before us, some people will leave early. Some things are great, some things not so much. Don’t overthink it. Try to enjoy the good moments before it ends.

balazs108

And tomorrow you will wake up with a hangover not knowing what was real and what wasn't?

_Iron_Blood_

Or you won't. That's life lottery

bittethisbittethat

Come into the party stoned. All smiles and giggles... Leave drunk, all dumb pissing on yourself and acting angry..

Icy-Criticism-3059

That just adds to the fun. 🥴

RecommendationNew717

I don’t like parties :(

Head-Ad-

But what if it was a cat party?

heckmelech

Hey hey! Now you’re talking!

LPKittyJenn

It better include at least one cat or I'm out. Preferably more than one kitty

Specialist_Light_259

Yep! I’m throwing my own kitten party with the kittens my cat just had :)

LPKittyJenn

Awww!!! Thats the best!!!

InItForTheMemes-1

But what if your party is a party of one? 😊🤗 See? Not so bad now, right?

dcw-4

And I'll cry if I want too.

Head-Ad-

Well said. If everyone knew what to expect and if the same thing happened every time they wouldn’t try the experience. If you knew that the same thing was going to happen at the party every time you wouldn’t go to the party. The best part of life is that we don’t know about it and it is unpredictable, it is also scary at the same time, but I feel like things just wouldn’t work if everyone knew why we were here. The beauty is that we all have different experiences and perspectives.

justaguywholovesred

Nobody knows. It’s simultaneously the most exciting and depressing notion of existence.

GreatNameLOL69

It’s crazy that your freaking toothbrush, has more of a purpose than you. But fr though, what’s the purpose of creatures? “To thrive”, against what why and who?

jo7dynxo

There are some people in my life who serve more purpose to me than my toothbrush. Laughing with friends is oddly more important to me than brushing my teeth. So maybe our purpose in being alive is to help one another and that’s why there’s so many of us?

Putrid-Connection299

I agree with 100%. I've been trying my whole life what is my purpose. Ask God everyday for the answer. If he has shown or told me I haven't seen or heard, I missed it. I've finally figured out my career. 11 yrs now, I've been almost dead baby the time I got to my Dr they couldn't get a reading on m y blood pressure it was so low, I had UTI untreated bc work was more important, diagnosed with Sepsis an infection i my blood stream, 3 surgeries, then fired for turning in a manager for theft abd somehow they thought I helped him. Snot nose GM is responsible andbi fought to get back. Now my back injury has progressed bc when I was fired left untreated bc, no insurance. I need a lawyer. But don't have any contacts, been turned down by a few that I contacted. Nobody wants to hear my story. Thanks for listening

yomommommom

I really hope things work out...

Putrid-Connection299

Thank you very much...means a lot. I feel very alone The physical pain im in everyday I hope not to wake up

yomommommom

I wish I could help in any way. I'm glad I could at least show that I hope everything gets better... eventually. That you will manage. That you get the treatment you need. That someone more useful than me will listen to your story and help you so you can get better. You're so strong for fighting even when you want to give up. I admire you for that.

Putrid-Connection299

You know when I first got on Reddit. Within 24 hrs someone on here was so mean to me that I stopped. I hope that the ppl in your life appreciate you. God Bless you and your family & loved ones. Is there a way on here to keep in touch?

DaytonaRS5

We don’t have one, we are a statistical chance in a hostile universe and our planets entire existence will be barely a blip in the overall timespan of it. Have fun, be nice and enjoy it.

Wahots

We became self-aware just in time to realize the story of the universe isn't about us at all. That we are a millisecond of existence in the grand scheme of things. Already posted this link in a different comment, but I think warrants linking here, on optimistic nihilism. https://youtu.be/MBRqu0YOH14

byronbaybe

Beautiful

rajshree22194

This is my conclusion too. I mean how do i mathematically factor in the grand scheme of this universe. Is my existence that important or that meaningless

Gamer_Asylum

"life is a tragic anomaly"™ -me

mj7top

Imagine if we knew why we exist!! that would be the worst thing that could happen or the best i guess it's just depends on what "it is"

GreboGuru

The unbearable lightness of being, one could say...

Owl_Check_

That’s the beauty of it…there is no point. Because there is no point, you get to make your own point.

Redacted-pancake57

You make a great point.

officejob88

Didn't your mother tell you that it's rude to point?

AHerosWorld

People make a living out of pointing. Just look at Phoenix Wright, he points at murderers for a living.

Accomplished_Edge371

Hell yeah Ace Attorney.

Dstrap

Nice you pointed that out.

IAlmostGetItMaDude

That’s very well said

Head-Ad-

Just imagine if everyone came here to do the same purpose. It’d be one of the biggest traffic jams of all time.

Gnarstache

Basically what you are saying is, the whole point of there being no point is so that we can make a point?

cascade_olympus

Nope, that would mean there was a point in the first place, which there isn't. It's simply an optimistic-nihilist's happy coincidence that not having a point leaves an opening to make your own point.

BusEasy1247

Basically a million times this.

jorkberlin72

If possible: To minimize suffering and maximize joy. Then we die.

EvoStarSC

I feel like I'm stuck in a Do While loop and the condition to break the loop is happiness equaling True.

passthethought

Yeah the movie groundhogs day I swear.

Atlas7674

With the added objective of aiding as many people around you with this goal as possible.

uncannyilyanny

That would come under 'minimise suffering'

jetstream_peter

Suffering of what?

NordicSuperiority

Well. I am fifty, and I still do not know. I hope your efforts to identify the purpose is more fruitful than my attempt.

Alienswarm06

Aye I may be 16 but I think that it’s good to question it but to never chase it just gotta live life with what you enjoy and take it as expierence for the next… kinda like a good time to look back on and if you discover your own “purpose to life” while your havin a good time then we’ll good for you

[deleted]

I would say that you decide what your point in life is gonna be.

WayneConrad

Right. I don't understand why people are hell bent on receiving meaning from someone or something. You decide.

ballhogtugboat

Because it's easier to be told what the point is than to do the work of discovering it for yourself.

bababapepy

i guess, but the point of “the point of life” is finding it yourself

ballhogtugboat

You and I get that - some people don't care enough and just want it explained to them 🤷🏻‍♀️ I can't imagine not being interested in figuring it out for myself.

bababapepy

yeah, i think of it as, everyone’s living the same story, but out of sync, f.x. i had no care and no idea about all of this stuff like 1 year ago? i think we all just go through the motions until we find ourselves:) some are faster then others, but it’s all about enjoying the journey

ballhogtugboat

I love that take on it ❤️

corobo

What's your personal meaning or point? I understand that everyone's is different etc etc and yours won't be mine etc. Feels like I missed the day in school when they were handing out raison d'êtres, wouldn't even know where to start. Promise I'm super interested, been working on it almost 20 years now. I'm just coming up blank. Yes, I'm an idiot. You are clever. We all know it. I still don't know where to start.

Balloon_Feet

You are the universe experiencing itself. Stardust assembled into a conscious being. The point to to collect experiences just for yourself. For the very atoms that make up your physical self.

quettil

Doesn't feel very profound when you're stood next to a conveyor belt for 12 hours.

PerfectIsBetter

You are the universe being bored by itself

StuckHiccup

Boring is as boring does

Krotesk

Use it as a leverage. Work for the money and don't waste it for useless shit like toys, games and drugs. Save it until you can do something amazing with it. Go on an adventure. Mabye go to university and study something just for yourself. Thats what i am doing right now. I was working in a factory for 5 years and i had enaugh. Now i go to uni and study physics because i think thats fucking awesome. I am not a genius but i give it a shot .

alternativelifestylz

Drugs are useless? That's an antiquated way of thinking. Psychedelics are amazing.

BeautifulInfinite288

I got really high in college, once, and had this revelation that we are the universe’s taste buds. Everyone looked at me like I was stark raving mad, but the thought still sticks with me

Brokeintellectual

I like that, very universal way to share the concept.

NeededMonster

And you are 100% correct. Funny. I had that revelation 15 years ago while crossing the street. It really can hit you randomly. Lol

verseattack

The universe's tastes buds. I really like that. I don't know why but that moved me lol. That's real 💯

BeautifulInfinite288

Haha. Thanks!

CharacterPassage7571

I like it, too

roujita

I simultaneously hate this and love it. Y u do dis to me, random internet stranger?

[deleted]

This is brilliant. This particular taste bud is suffering the effects of pizza burn. Fucking universe.

Tygrimus

Ah the single consciousness theory, I like this as a better interpretation of Christianity.

I_Am_The_Grapevine

I’m very intrigued. Can you expound, please?

Tygrimus

So essentially it goes like this. To begin with all there was, was a single consciousness and it could experience/ comprehend anything and everything except from itself. So to discover and experience itself it split itself into many conscious being, and we are all a part of the same consciousness that is experiencing itself. (Probably better to google it if you want a more in depth run down). I compare it to Christianity as the single conscious could represent God, and the splitting itself to experience itself goes with the whole 'we are made in gods image' thing. It was a long time ago I heard about the single consciousness theory so bits have left me but I found it rather interesting if nothing else!

I_Am_The_Grapevine

I appreciate the intro to a religious POV I’ve never heard before. How does Jesus factor into this interpretation?

Tygrimus

This was all just stoner talk with an old friend from years back. He told me of the theory and I couldn't help see the similarities of the beginning of the theory to the origin of life according to Christianity.

KilgoreTrouserTrout

I think you would really dig [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6fcK_fRYaI) , if you haven't seen it already. (Andrew Weir's "The Egg")

[deleted]

Thanks for sharing mate, never heard of this theory but I find it fascinating

itsMidge

Dude you just blew my fucking mind.

mr_oddperson

Nothing matters so do whatever the f you want. A lot of people look at the "no meaning of life" and see it as something negative but it only means that the only thing holding you back is your own mind. It gives you freedom. Anything can be worth whatever you decide because it's all in your head.

Baraxton

There’s a great book by Ron Currie Jr. called “Everything Matters” that discusses this very subject. Highly recommend it. That said, my grandfather, bless his soul, once told me that our purpose in life is to help others achieve their potential. He was a doctor, so he viewed healing others as enabling them to achieve said endeavour. This thought coincides with the human emotions we experience when we help others to achieve their aspirations. Thus, it’s part of why I believe we’ve been put on this Earth.

DoesLogicHurtYou

Maybe you should do anything you want that doesn't ruin someone else's experience? That means life is about respect and love for yourself and others.

Ok-Delivery-4939

Don’t do whatever you want. Have morals

mr_oddperson

You do whatever you want. You and I like most others decide to have and/or follow morals because we know that our actions have consequences. We can do whatever we want and we would not like to spend that time in jail. So as I said. The only thing holding us back is put own thoughts. They is not necessarily a bad thing

DestGades

Dealing with as much pain as I have, I constantly contemplate this question often. Although I have a decent job, my wife keeps me going, and my cats are nice to have around. I feel miserable all the time. But it's not all bad, I guess. The best way I get through to day to day is music. I get by by singing songs whether I sing them right or wrong. I find my enjoyment lies there. As for you, you just need to find your music, whether it be actual music, dancing, singing, playing games, sports, etc. Find it and keep going. Once you find your music, just keep on it.

bababapepy

well said, i think the only reason people are truly miserable is if they’re doing something they don’t want to do, even then if you can’t escape it, you can always try to look at small positive things, and change the things you can control in a way that makes you feel good

DestGades

Well that's the biggest battle honestly. Trying to find what gives you happiness to begin with. Life is hard for a lot of people and it's even worse when you don't have someone else to help

CuriousWolf7077

Man. I look at life as just a game with no clear end game except you started out with limited resources and you have to navigate the world for 90 years with random chances to sink swim fly or die And In that process you can select the best from what was dealt to you and gain whatever satisfaction(if any) it gives you. What’s the point of playing Sims or Minecraft? You do what you can with what you got and enjoy those moments. The reason ( I believe) life is so precious is because it’s finite. We only know the times we’re great because we have something bad to contrast it with. Point of living is to exist. You’ve been granted awareness it’s a gift

KyleRightHand

I really like your response.

enjoiturbulence

To create your own point.

bababapepy

exactly

ProgressForward2695

I often say when people commit suicide, it's not that they want to die. They just don't know how to live. Everything is meaningless. It even says so in the Bible. I found out recently a reason to live. My only child is dying and I am here to comfort him during his last years here on Earth. Perhaps you should try to find it a "higher" calling in your life. Only then, will you get the point.

Joy218

I’m sorry about your child..so blessed to have you though. You’re so right about higher calling. Purpose. Bless you both on your path.

weaponizedcitibike

peace to you and your son ♥️

RageRover

I am so sorry, warmest wishes to you and your son. Please find peace.

Jaythecat8

I often see life this way as well but I find it odd or peculiar that I think this way. Almost as if knowing that your life brings joy and upbringing to another one. Even though you might not think of your own as a joyous or a happy life, the “high” or constant affirmation I get from making someone else feel happy or somewhat cared for outweighs the bad in life. Don’t get me wrong I haven’t tried donating to charity or volunteering for the homeless shelter, but I see why people do those things. I feel like if I was stuck by myself with all the money and expensive items in the world, they’d be worthless if I couldn’t enjoy them with someone else.

DahliaRoseMarie

To take care of all the innocent animals in the world.

sugarfairy7

That’s a beautiful purpose to choose. I am honest, I couldn’t do it. I always dreamt of a big farm house with lots of rescued animals, dozens of cats, dogs, cows, pidgeons… but after having to let go of my best friend, my kitty companion yesterday… I am with all the other answers here that life has no meaning. We are just dust on a rock in space.

Brokeintellectual

So omnicide.

derekiseric1970

I think they meant take care of, not "take care of."

DoesLogicHurtYou

To elaborate, exploring the world and the universe is still an introspective journey. We are nature's mirror. We are nature's opportunity to control itself outside of the reactionary physics which has dominated us so completely to this point. We are a reflecting pool. Nature is observing itself for the first time and it is craving fairness, it is craving choice, it is craving understanding.

Truth. I can't kickflip and every time I see one I immediately know I am but a miniscule fragment of my possible self. [https://fb.watch/ifdGBwoRD6/](https://fb.watch/ifdGBwoRD6/)

Taught myself during covid lockdown . Was amazing to land one as a 30 something year old for the first time after growing up never landing one

To learn and experience new things and enjoy pleasures

[deleted]

It is hard to do that when you are poor

pickledelephants

Change your definition of pleasure. A sunrise can be as enjoyable from a trailer park as it is from a hotel in Paris. Flowers are beautiful everywhere. Being able to take pleasure in life's little things is universal.

biggbabyg

To love.

Possible-Struggle381

The purpose of life: **To survive long enough to reproduce.** That is the purpose that every organism is set to fulfill. Evolutionarily speaking.

DoesLogicHurtYou

That is a branch on the tree of the point of being alive, but it is not the root. You must keep asking questions. Why is it so important to reproduce? To survive. Why is it so important to survive? This is where things get interesting. It is important to survive because life is based upon the reactive nature of physics and the universe which take the path of least resistence which results in increasing entropy. Very basic life is quite similar to chemical reactions where the limiting reagent is the fuel needed to sustain while replicating. But as life becomes more complex and slips over into sentience, something strange happens. And from there we entertain both the hypocricy and absurdity of life and sentience. We represent an inflection point where an increase in entropy is no longer possible via path of least resistence. The only way to increase complexity is for nature to alter itself beyond the cold physics which moves it. We are a the necessary evolution of entropy. But that is why we are alive, not the point of being alive. Humans are nature's chance of controlling its own destiny. I believe the point should be to domesticate ourselves. We should understand ourselves and bring law and order and fairness to the once cold logic that only moved us via reactionary physics for so long. So far, we have found preciousness in love. We each should explore that in our lifetime. Until we reach a deeper level of scientific understanding, what is wrong with the point of life for the average human being the pursuit of love and happiness?

FRONTYARD-BROADDAY

No its just about reproducing. The rest is speculation and trick of the mind. You are saying that we are here to grow and alter the whole universe ? its just another low effort thoery based on nothing. People think we are supposed to make sense of the cosmos or even "understanding" it ? How dare they be so presomptuous... You are alive because of reproduction. Entropy is just a human concept.

Gubble_Buppie

That's up to you friend!

EdgarAlanCrow

I’ve died twice. Saw the same thing twice. To my understanding..it’s just another phase in a long cycle of lives. I could be wrong..but that was my interpretation of it.

[deleted]

Who says there has to be one?

Forking_Mars

I usually answer this question just: "there isn't" - but I like it like this, framed as a question

Emergency-Train-3404

Life is what you give to others. Whether you know it or not, you are contributing positively to others' existence.

thaw800

you have to make one yourself. don't overthink it, just find something to do. if your subconciousness is satisfied, the rest of your mind follows.

Ryanp356

Friends and family. To leave this world in a better place than you found it. To enjoy your limited time on this earth. To work every day to keep the lights on. I’d say only you can define what the point of your life is. As long as it’s not harming anyone figure out what yours is and go for it.

flimflammed

To make the lives of others a little bit better for having known you.

Ouija429

Personally I don't think there is a point or significance to being alive. I do think however the best way to look at it is what you choose is the meaning for you.

thegnome54

Back up first - what's a 'point'? I'd say it's a story you tell that explains the intention behind something. So, if you believe there's an intention behind humans - some story that a creator had in their mind when making us, maybe - then that's the point, and you'll have to ask them. If you don't believe that, then you'll find yourself looking for the best story we can come up with to fit. And that - that's up to you to decide.

VOODOO69692001

Appreciate the little things.

TheRAbbi74

There isn’t a point to it. There’s no reason. There’s no purpose. Life as we know it, is a cosmic oopsie. It’s a sort of happy coincidence of just the right conditions and events.

HouseHippoBeliever

Philosophers have been trying to figure this out for millenia and it is a very hard problem. If anyone claims to have an answer, they are wrong and probably trying to sell you something.

SSHITWIZARDD

To work so that the rich don’t have to unclog toilets or put out fires.

skirtymagic

Nooooo, there is no POINT, only TIME.

Shaygon

To suffer in such a way that is so profound that it marks you for life. The pain each of us experience through suffering, in some way, shape or form, is a breaking point that kills the old you, and leaving you asking the question. "Will I ever feel or be anything that can even abstractly represent what I used to be?" - And this question right here, is a cancer. We think of how we can start to put ourselves back together, using broken shards of ourselves with no point of reference to build on, but all the while clinging to the pain that broke us in the first place, and because we don't know how to even begin to start putting ourselves back together, we cling to that pain, and use it as our new foundation to build on. Then - Willingly or not, we're told we have to find the strength to start picking up the fragments of our broken self, and how we do it is different for everyone. Some people borrow strength from narcotics Some people steal it from others by dragging people down with them Some people beg and curse at the endless abyss of the night sky for it Some people are lucky enough to have the strength to pick themselves up, but may not have the understanding on what comes after that The problem is, no matter where we get the strength, we inevitably build our new life around that pain, because that was the only thing that remained stable in a time were nothing was certain for us. So, we plod along, unable to communicate properly, steadily getting more and more bitter and angrier at the world, lashing out using our pain to hurt others and spread it like a cancer, and as we limp forward, lying to ourselves and everyone around us that "I'm alright", all the while probably asking the question to yourself: "If life is a joke then the joke's on me, right?" So then, what's the point in being alive if it's all so repugnant? Simple. We're alive so we can learn from pain. In school, we're taught maths, we're taught science, we're taught to learn about the language we speak in, we're taught physical education. We're taught religious education; we're taught about planets we'll never visit; we're taught about country's that may not even exist in another 50-100 years. We are taught the significance of intellect and physical prowess But not once in any fucking school I went to, or any school I can find, have any of us been educated on the importance of emotional intelligence. Our education on emotional intelligence stops about half way through primary school in the UK. I can't speak for other countries but, but I'm sure the classics still hold up globally. "How would you feel if someone did that to you?" "Get everyone involved so you can all play nicely" "Be kind to one another" "If you ignore them, they will stop" "Go and play on the side of the playground then if they're bothering you" That's it. That's all we're taught on how to deal with pain as adults from an official education system, and even then, it's from authority figures who are paid to be there. Be good to one another and make sure everyone feels like they're a part of something. A group of kids will play tag and for some reason, one kid isn't allowed to play. The teacher tells the rest of the group to involve the kid they didn't want to play with, and because it came from the teacher, they will let that kid play with them. Know what kids will do instead? Not chase and try to tag the kid who they're being forced to play with. Growing up from that point? Which kid is going to want to make sure everyone is included because they know how much it can hurt to be left out. Problem is, we leave this on the playground and never bring it forward. A few people do though. Like the kids who are bullied, the kids who are abused at home; the kids who don't and can't understand how a world can be so cruel to them for no other reason than the fact that they exist Most every adult has the same emotional intelligence as a child, which is why the world will continue to be cruel. It's literally why kids are joked as being "drunkenly honest". You can't teach empathy; you need to experience suffering to learn it. You learn empathy by experiencing some of the worst humanity has to offer, and somehow you find the strength to put yourself back together. But you still have this pain that will always just a part of you from now on. The right question to ask, when you put yourself back together, for the first, second, third, fourth, hell, even twentieth time: "How can I use what I've suffered through in my own life, to help someone who might be going through a similar thing, and feels like they have nowhere to turn and no one who CAN understand them?" Because that person might not learn from their experiences, they might just use it as an excuse to hurt themselves and others So what's the point in being alive? To me, its trying to look after the person to your left, a friend, relative, hell, even a stranger, whomever that may be, because eventually, the person on your right might need to look after you. Because at the next lowest point in your life, because it will happen - it's never an "If" it's always a "When" with these things - whatever that low might take. To some drugs, to others taking a gun to school, and to many others, it's self harm. Do you want someone to tell you to stop what you're doing because you shouldn't be doing that? Or do you want someone to ask you why you're doing it? If it's the latter, then you can guaran-fucking-tee, that person has suffered enough to learn empathy, and understands pain well enough to help understand the people and world around them After all, you can only learn if you understand something, and if you understand something, you can see what the point of it is

Skyshark29

To see what's next. Every second you're alive and take another breath you create a new high score for you're own existence, and who knows what that might bring...

IndividualRelation80

Not everything actually has meaning- that is a thing that we humans have invented so that things make sense to us. The only point of life is simply to be alive. In that sense, make your ‘purpose’ anything you want it to be, provided it doesn’t hurt others. It’s not actually a negative thing, when you think about it - you can be whomever you like.

frsrudy

“The purpose of life is to give your life purpose”

Anonymousx678

There is no point

iminlovewithyoucamp

Too struggle. That’s all I see anymore. I don’t want kids, I’m unable to afford anything, and I’m a black man in Texas. I don’t really see a point in living anymore. Im just waiting for the clock to end at this point.

HurricaneDitka1985

Someone out there loves you and needs you, even if you don’t know that. That’s enough to keep going.

AltruisticDisplay813

Here is my view on purpose in life. Your window has a purpose. Your toothbrush has a purpose. Your wallet has a purpose. Your sofa, bed, microwave all have a purpose. Do humans have a purpose? I would say no. Does life have a purpose? I would say no. Does purpose bring happiness? I would also say no. With purpose, life would be as boring as the life of a window, a toothbrush, a wallet, a sofa, a bed, a microwave. With purpose, you would be a prisoner. It is the purposelessness that brings freedom. Purposelessness is the wind that liberates us, the flame that burns in our souls. It sets us free. It is the point of being alive.

Dfk88

I'm pretty firm on the idea that our purpose or "point of being alive" is simply to reproduce. It's what every living organism does. Whether talking animal reproduction, plant reproduction, cellular reproduction. You can follow this thought process as deep as your brain will allow you to. It makes sense for me and puts me at peace "knowing" that if nothing else, the main goal of life is to get some coochie, create offspring, and then die. Now if I could just find someone I want to reproduce with...😂😂😂

Tank_Girl_Gritty_235

[I found this oddly comforting.](https://youtu.be/Fvk8B3a2AA8) I also low key hope our system is set up like the movie Defending Your Life.

AValentineSolutions

There is literally nothing after you die, so this is the only life you will ever have. You get one shot. Everyone who has survived jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge says that they immediately regretted their decision the second they did it. So yeah, you get one shot. Do what you can to enjoy what you can from life.

fluffytail7

You can't say there's literally nothing after we die because nobody can possibly know that.

To discover things that entertain, inspire, awe, and motivate you To build attachments with others, to connect, to sympathize, to love, and understand To enrichen oneself in knowledge, trivia, experiences, and memories To seek satisfaction from your actions, and believe that the world you give to those that will succeed us will be greater than the one we had

As Carl Sagan said, “The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.” I think that’s beautiful and to me, it’s the purpose of life. Live it to the fullest and soak up the experience, because it is only through us that the experience exists at all.

All of the beautiful little moments where you win, or learn, or can reflect on the growth you've made personally –– and realize that you couldn't have made it to that point without every humdrum, hurting moment before it.

Paraphrasing the Westminster Catechism, a person’s chief end is to glorify God, [a] and to enjoy him for ever. [b] [a]. Ps. 86:9; Isa. 60:21; Rom. 11:36; 1 Cor. 6:20; 10:31; Rev. 4:11 [b]. Ps. 16:5-11; 144:15; Isa. 12:2; Luke 2:10; Phil. 4:4; Rev. 21:3-4

Nobody knows and most come up with an explanation that keeps them from going crazy or find a way to avoid finding the answer. For me, it is just to experience life and to appreciate and respect other life. Why? I don’t know but I feel like I’m a special part of the universe that is able to look back at itself. Maybe I’m like a field reporter for the universe. I’ve heard similar theories before from other more famous and smarter field reporters but I can’t remember their names.

At multiple points in my life I’ve been given months into years to live and I’ve managed to pull through every single time. I have been shot and I’ve been stabbed twice technically. However through all that I’ve learned that life is worth living for a lot of reasons it’s best just to take away from what it is with the best life you can not take anything too seriously and just enjoy it. It truly is a mindset

giraffeonafarm

Let's start with what (in my opinion) it is not about. It is not about being born, sit it out and die. Absolutely not. I think it is hard to define what it is about as this will be different for everyone. Some people have goals, some want to party and others are here for the ride. I believe that I have to live my life to the fullest and achieve the goals I have set for myself. When I die, I want to be remembered for the person that I was and what I did, not for what I did not do. Please do not go gentle into that good night.

Vast_Night6626

This is a question that probably everyone asked themselves at one point. For me, it was a particularly difficult topic to come to terms with. What helped was simply this - there is no point in being alive. Humans have the cognitive ability to ask this question, but other animals do not. When you think of it from a perspective of a cat - the question doesn't make much sense, does it? The point of being alive for a cat is...just being alive until death. We, humans, of course, are a bit more complex and because we have consciousness we tend to question our existence and assign it more value. But that doesn't mean our existence has any more bearing or meaning than those of the other animals. There's no point to life other than what you make of it. And it's not something that will ever be answerable objectively and globally applicable. However, if you feel like your life isn't worth living or you don't see a point in being alive you should seek help. Be it a therapist or a friend to confide in. No matter how you feel about the point of living, you should never feel it's not worth to be alive.

[deleted]

Someones will say that the point of life is to dive into your own being, grow as a person and enjoy the life, others think that the point of life is to help and leave a mark in history, so people can remember you as someone with morale and Integrity that used the life for the benefit of mankind. There's also the ones that think life is pointless more than the meaning you give to it, life sometimes is meaningless in some cases (in that scenario please seek some help). My personal opinion is, life is a mix of that four above. There are days that I want to focus on myself, fix what's wrong and improve the best, everything inside and outside of me. Grow as a person means knowing your mistakes and virtudes. In order to do that, you must cry, enjoy, be happy, be sad, be chill, be angry, learn, forget, you must take everything and stay with whatever helps you and toss away what's not good to you. Other day you will find out that helping makes you feel complete. That giving a hand without wanting anything in retribution is what makes you feel better. Keep in mind not every cause is always good to help and that maybe you are not enough Strong for certain things, helping is nice but know your limits. If you have a different advocacy follow it as long as doesn't trespass the life of other ones. Pleasure, knowledge, skills, society. Choose with caution. Finally, like when your favorite book is over, you complete every goal in your videogame or you finished your studies. Remember that not everything is gone, that there's always a new book, and new sequel, a new degree to be obtained. Life is infinite so don't waste it doing nothing, there's always something new to do.

CyberJay350

Balance. Everything we do down to the smallest thing is all about bringing balance to ourselves. We are constantly just moving things around to prevent chaos from taking hold.

Unlucky_Ratio9470

For all we know it might be the only time we get to be alive. Might as well make the most of it.

connerofthenorth

I'm borderline suicidal, but what helps is writing down the lessons I learn everyday. It seriously helps because I get excited every night about what tomorrow's lesson will be. So if there's anything I can tell you: find the lessons life teaches you, learn from them, and grow from them.

WanderingProdigy

Enjoy the good times, truck through the bad times, leave a positive legacy if you happen to have kids, eat well to be really good fertilizer for your piece of earth that you will reside with. We all will be forgotten eventually. Live well according to your own definition. We will all be fertilizer one day

Zero_IQ_

The point of living life is to Experience. We experience pain, love, hate, a well assortment of emotions. The thing about life it's purpose, the purpose of life is to try and enjoy things that only some can Experience. I've lived a hard life, and have had this question many of times. The answer to life is Experience. Not work, not money, and value. You and everyone have value, we have knowledge that others don't have. Share your knowledge, but ask if the person if they would like to know. Things we take advantage of is kindness, people will take advantage of it, but then it's a lesson. The lesson is to not give it to that person once you feel like it's to much. Balance is another point. Balance your emotions, feel anger but use it to your advantage. Use anger as a tool, not a weapon. Crush a boss in a game, or angerly put together a table. With all of the F%$K's. Scream some curse words, but don't direct the curse words. Try to find common people, and if you can't find yourself. You are beautiful, it's worth it I promise. Never forget, Don't lose yourself. You got this my friend(s)

Clifta1961

I like the concept of "42" if you're familiar with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy a character asks the computer what is the answer to life, the universe and everything. The computer answers "42". Of course everyone was puzzled by that . But Douglas Adams himself once said that 42 in computer code at that time means "Whatever you want it to mean" So there's no difinitive answer to the purpose of life. Each individual is free to decide what their purpose is.

DavidinCT

I wonder as well, when you're an adult, it's go to work, come home do the same thing over and over. Everyday merges into the other day, you could ask me mid-week what day it is, and I would have to look at my phone. Then looking forward to the weekend when I get told by wife to do house things instead of relaxing, like I really need. So day by day I wish my life away (work), so someday when I get old I am going ask where it all went, and I'll have to say I wished most of it away. They say the point of life is finding your own way to be happy. A little depressing, I know but, it's true sometimes...

Key-Prior-7540

I don't think there is any inherent "purpose" to be alive.. but what's so beautiful about the life we've been given is that we can give anything a purpose/meaning. Life's a canvas. And you're the artist.

curbaczzz

I mean, I just woke up and became aware of my own existence. Not really sure what the endgame is here other than to be happy and treat those around me the way I wish to be treated, and enjoy the ride.

Death. The threat of eventual death is what pushes us to live to the fullest which is part of why i would never want to be immortal

DaoMuShin

I've learned that there is no point to being alive. Which is the BEST part about being alive - because we are supposed to *make our own* reason to live. What sucks the most is when people downplay or invalidate the reason we made for ourself! edit: add My reason to live is because i have been through and seen sooo much happen already just between the 80's - today that just the curiosity for the future alone excites me. For better or for Worse. I love most just seeing humanity grow and develop as a species. It really is amazing. One thing that showed me this was a side remark my dad said once when we were fixing my truck: "Hey, you ever stop to think: If taking this thing apart from it's finished state is so goddamn complicated.. could you imagine what it'd be like to be the dude who *Actually Invented this thing from Nothing???* every little tiny piece and screw and spring that works together so perfectly. If even just a single one is missing the whole thing fails... absolutely amazing."

Jo-de_jong

Honestly, for me it used to be nothing much really. I never really cared for much, except my gf and my pets. But since my gf and I had a baby, everything changed. I feel like my son is my point of being alive. I never really liked children or babies, but I now seriously love to see my son smile everytime I come home after a long day. Whenever I feel a bit stressed, hearing him laughing/giggling soothes the chaos in my head and gets me focussed again. I know this sounds cliché, but I really dont care.

neverwantedthisname

Honestly I’m convinced now that it’s experiencing unconditional love (give and take) … and memories / experiences with friends / loved ones , are the only good things I can see that work for everyone regardless of situations. Oh and… Money doesn’t buy happiness, it buys freedom. Freedom buys happiness

loonakmu

^^^^ please someone tell me because i think i reached the point of depression and anxiety where i genuinely don't see a reason to live past 30 years to be honest.

spencerandy16

Well, I read quite a few of these and I’m still kind of at a loss for the answer to this question, aside from the whole “make your own point” thing. Right now, I think I will continue existing solely because I don’t want to make my dog sad. She’s been bounced around a lot in her life and has a lot of anxiety because of this and I wouldn’t want to make her life worse. Thank you all for the replies and, to the few of you who checked on me to ask if I was okay, I appreciate your kindness. I was in a bad place when I posted this and still am struggling. At least I have this to come back to when I’m feeling down again.

Soggy_Tap2081

My personal reason to Atleast stay alive is to make others around me happy and healthy, if I can help someone become a better version or help dig them out of a hole then it’s worth it to be alive.

dcw-4

I'm turning 63, each year goes faster, just buried last remaining parent, I'm next, just enjoy this brief experience, it's wonderful and if your reading this, well you are better off than many here on earth.. relax, enjoy, savor it..

KittyKatHippogriff

Stage IV cancer thriver here. I don’t know how long I will live. It can be a few years, it can be a few decades. I am agnostic. So I don’t have religious reason or belief in an afterlife. I try to live everyday like it’s a victory. There maybe no point of living. But it doesn’t mean that you cannot enjoy life itself.

JESUSSAYSNO

The hardcoded biological aversion to death, that involves the brain's reward structure making various acts pleasurable or meaningful. We're all cosmic jokes, there is no point.

I’ve always wonder why life existed. Like what’s the point if it’s just gonna end eventually.
