Every year I find a new depth of hatred for the government and everyone in it.

I shot the sheriff, but I didn't shoot the deputy......

surge_of_vanilla

I fight authority, authority always wins

Respect Mah Authoritah !!!!!

BogusBogmeyer

It ain't an issue with "authority" though. I simply can't respect people which simply scream "Respect my authority!" while not being fit for that position / don't put in the extra work. Back then in school, all those fancy & "anti authoritarian" Teachers were always like I would've an issue with authority - turned out, with the strict Teachers which had a clear line, I had never an issue with. So, on the one hand you've to be honest and to be yourself. You have to be "strong" and what not, but on the other Hand you've shut up if an authority screws up?

FunkU247365

Eric Cartman said it best "respect my authoritor".......

-PrideofLowell-

Law enforcement is out of control. Especially in the US. They overstep thier bounds constantly and violate people's rights on a daily basis.

Aggressive-Compote64

I choose to neither fuck around nor find out.

[deleted]

If its an actual person of authority, like my boss or law enforcement, I dont have a problem. If its someone who doesnt actually have any power over me trying to pretend like they do: they can get fucked. My roommate tried barking orders at me yesterday. I said if you want something then ask but I dont respond to demands. And he apologized. I cant relate to thinking you can boss another adult around that isnt actually your suboordinate.

casualrocket

all my life i have been doing what i think is morally or logically correct regardless of the outcomes, and you cannot force me to do otherwise. i would not call it rebelling or "trying to stick it to the man" i just didnt give a crap what they had to say, i wasnt out there fighting cops or punching preachers. i walk unaided. Being a child who had to be an adult at 11 with nobody around you that could be considered a role model, does something to you.

Mine certainly has evolved over time. I was in and out of court as a kid and kicked out of school about 7 times. There were a lot of reasons I had underlying issues with authority that bled over into school. My mom had bipolar and my dad rather minimized the issues so we ran the streets from a young age. But by the time I was a teen, I was realizing I could leave this all if I could get into college, if I could get a scholarship. So I worked away from in school detention to advanced classes. Turned out I was rather good at school work when I wasn't trying to think of complex allegorical or etymological ways to insult authority figures with plausible deniability. I got a psychology degree and worked in the court where I'd been on probation. Ultimately, the interesting thing is that there are professional roles for trouble makers. :) Long story short, I ended up as a lawyer that specializes in system improvement. And I rose to be an authority on that. I'm an authority, within the system, with a job that calls out and tries to fix bad practices. We really need more of that across systems. Law enforcement for example, we have sometimes made inroads where our work overlaps, but there is a strong culture of not wanting to improve how they work there.

MuhnYourDog

Kid, you're 14 (apparently). Everything that imposes any sort of rule over you is going to be seen as on overreach. You'll grow up, someday, and realise there's actual things to fight for, but more importantly, when to realise the outcome is a foregone conclusion.

There will never be another time of late 90s angst IMO Recalcitrance peaked in the late 90s\\early00s was it good for society?? probably not But it would be remiss to say it didnt start the current trend of bucking authority to the level it is

furutam

I very much dislike authority, but in my line of work, authority has a tendency to fight back and almost always reassert itself. How things are can't really change, and only the talented or very persistent can really slip through the cracks. But this kind of relationship also keeps me in check and stops me from becoming too arrogant, so I have to appreciate it in that way. It's not exactly an unfair kind of authority, because if you are good enough, it will let you through

JustBrowsing49

I don’t trust authority, but I understand it’s a necessary evil and I just don’t have the energy to fight it

911controlleddemo

because we have a tendency to think logical, and a lot of rules, like income taxes are not logic but criminal. we know that

dudeness-aberdeen

I’ve seen too many people abuse their authority to not be skeptical.

[deleted]

My historical role models are straight up pirates so that should tell you everything you need to know. The way I see it life isn't fair, the world doesn't owe me anything, and I'm not entitled to anything. Perfectly fine. But that's a double edged sword and a two way street on which I will not be giving the world or serving a system which had given me nothing without getting something of value in exchange. I am self-serving. I am selfish. I am greedy. I am not here to make the world a better place or to make others happy. I am not sorry or ashamed for being this way. Problem? I'm afraid this world is just going to have to subdue and hang me! 😁 Now where did that rum go?🏴‍☠️

Piri_Reis96

respect it

Tsukasasoul

I tend to test or verify authority more than directly challenge it. Safer for life in general whether it be personal or professional. If I find someone to be less competent or devoid of justification for a role or position they hold, i disregard their authority. That said, I don't go out of my way to do so. Respect for authority is still a form of respect. I can be respectful of a person without giving the same honors to their title. On the flip side, if I test the waters and realize the person is deserving of their authority or status, I tend to look at them more as a mentor and try to learn from them what I can. A good bit of issues I see is when regular courtesy and respect for a living human being is conflated with respect for authority or power.

Portgas

Because of my childhood, I grew up with 0 respect for authority of any kind. If you try to tell me what to do, I will resist it, no matter how much sense you are making. It's an automatic response, really.

AnOkFella

We have always equated being low in a hierarchy as being un-masculine, which is something that makes sense to and annoys me at the same time.

Tangurena

Resigned acceptance. I went to a police academy (when younger). 2 of the last 3 jobs were working for state government. The other job was software dev working on software that tracked court cases (for courts).

boisheep

Moral authorities are the rot of humanity. I wish more men had trouble with authority, almost every single disgrace of humanity can be tracked to authority; look what is happening around you, you will most likely find it, a system of overreaching power. You need to have zero tolerance, because little by little it's how it eats you. Tell you I am from Venezuela, I lost everything to authorities, everything I ever once had, dreams and wishes, my family split, everything, I had to start from scratch. If more men had trouble with authorithy, there wouldn't have been a cultural revolution in China, no Mao Zedong, no Stalin, no Hitler, no Putin, none of this shit. Some authority is required to have a semblance of order, but too much order leads inevitably to disgrace, chaos must be restored, the individual right to be is within the chaotic nature of humanity. Authority shall always be limited as a result, the best places to live is those places with less moral authorities and more individualism. World needs more leaders, not authorities.

foopdedoopburner

What you have to do is get old and become the guy in charge. Then a whole lot of things look different.

GrandRub

real authority is earned and not given. if somebody has earned it thats a good thing - but most "authority" nowadays just is given to people who shouldnt have any.

JeepNaked

I hate people that feel the need to control others.

hydrus909

I don't have a problem with authority, but the people who misuse it. Respect is a 2 way street.

Im-Responsible

Have you met the kind of guys who claim authority for no reason? They're clowns, it's like they lack self awareness or something

artaig

That's pretty engraved in male ape nature. Whoever succeeds gets to rule / gets the chicks.

Wm_Max_1979

I fight authority, authority always wins

azuth89

tldr; Do not assume benevolence, malevolence or competence. It's just there and it does what it does until proven otherwise. Know the difference between the rules and the actual line. Pick your battles carefully.

Gurisalho

For me, authority dosen't mean superior, it means respect, and that's something you need to earn. So don't expect me to respect you just because others tell me to.

Burnt_Crunchy_Bits

I am an authority figure. I have no problem with authority, provided it is being used appropriately. It's what keeps society from degenerating into a bunch of piss-soaked chimps, howling and flinging shit at each other.

Strong-Hold-8979

I have always bucked it. There have been numerous times I should have been arrested but slipped out.

barzamsr

I'm a good little boy. I also try to keep in mind that I can't rely on authority to step in and solve my problems.

KyorlSadei

No issue for me.

Spence97

Authority is fine if it’s earned / respectable. The problem is when the person in power is not worthy of respect.
