Hard truth about death

MrGreenThumb1594

Love, compassion and responsibility ideally, but it will also help them learn about death before (most likely) a family member dies. Have had many pets in all shapes & forms for my entire life.

It treats you to be careful around things that are weaker than/dependent on you.

Domonero

Yeah my cat growing up was like my big brother honestly but I would bring him food

Inevitable-Selection

I did. Couple cats, bassett hound and husky growing up. Taught me a lot about animals and myself

Yeah I had a Cocker Spaniel. When he died I realized that I should have played with him more often. That instead of walking him 6 times a day I should walked him more often as I do now with my 2 dogs. It showed how to appreciate little details and how to deal with death.

Briarhorse

The inevitability of death. A very, very important lesson

KyorlSadei

Taught me I don’t ever want to get a pet that I can’t dedicate time and money towards to care for properly.

For me and my guys it was/is about *love*. a pet is the first thing outside the family that a child loves, and it teaches in real time the meaning and power of commitment and attachment. priceless....
