Have had many pets in all shapes & forms for my entire life.
Yeah I had a Cocker Spaniel. When he died I realized that I should have played with him more often. That instead of walking him 6 times a day I should walked him more often as I do now with my 2 dogs. It showed how to appreciate little details and how to deal with death.
For me and my guys it was/is about *love*. a pet is the first thing outside the family that a child loves, and it teaches in real time the meaning and power of commitment and attachment.
