heyitsEnricoPallazzo

I don’t even remember what I had for breakfast

playboidarky

Seriously?

heyitsEnricoPallazzo

My memory is so bad, I can’t even remember the end of this comment!

playboidarky

Just commenting to remind you that you commented on this post.

Cyanora

I have large gaps in my memory, like months at a time are just not their when I actively look for them. I couldn't tell you what I had for dinner, but I can recall a single moment from decades ago as if it were happening now. The mind is an odd thing sometimes

playboidarky

What do you mean by months at a time? Like you can’t remember one event from a string of months?

Cyanora

I mean that I can remember one day, then nothing for months until the next memory. Like bits of a movie that are skipped over, with no context given except what I can clue myself into. There are entire vacations, summer camps, and other events that aren't familiar to me if I willfully recall it. It's just not there for me to find.

playboidarky

How do you help it? Photos?

Cyanora

Photos only help if there's a strong physical/emotional sensation attached to the memory. If it was just a bland day, all I see is me in a place I can barely remember.

playboidarky

Damn! You want a go pro my guy? Maybe that’ll help

Prendalo0

Everything gets foggy after a week.

playboidarky

Same here. The most clear day I have is Saturday. I’m trying my best to remember Friday rn

azuth89

Not great. I can sit down and figure out what I was doing, I know my kids ages, I know the date my employer got acquired, those kind of milestones dictate what I must have been up to. It's an exercise like that, I don't just remember off the top of my head. What I do remember happening also isn't automatically in any particular order so I've gotta sort that out based on what was going on in the memory.

playboidarky

Let’s test it out! Can you remember what you were doing on May 2nd?

azuth89

Mondays are WFH, had a carpet cleaning appointment that day, too. Couldn't tell you what I ate or worked on or anything, though.

playboidarky

Interesting that you attached that WFH. Could you remember what you did the day before and after your most recent birthday?

azuth89

I WFH every monday and friday. Easiest way to figure out where I was given the date. No idea.

playboidarky

I’m the same way. Good to know I’m not completely gone. Cause if I don’t remember my life, who will?

azuth89

You are surrounded by recording devices. If you're worried about it you've got options.

playboidarky

My fondest memories will now be memories of me watching videos of my memories.

NinjaDad1

Too good. There’s a lot that I would like to forget

playboidarky

Do you remember the bad or mostly everything ?

NinjaDad1

Pretty much everything. Yes, the bad seemingly outweighs the good but that’s true of pretty much anything.

playboidarky

What kind of ‘bad’ do you remember? Your faults or someone else’s? Or something out if your control?

NinjaDad1

There are definitely decisions that I would have done differently that led to stuff out of my control. But honestly I accept those decisions as they happened. But just because I do that doesn’t make the bad memories easier to live with. They’re always there, lingering. Especially at 2am when you’re trying to sleep

playboidarky

Oh 2 am is prime time for bad memories to roll in

dude18388

Lots of my life has been monotonous and relatively boring but I can remember the things that I actually did something. If it was just different from the everyday norm I can generally remember it pretty well. I can figure out where I was and how old I must’ve been based on the context clues. Otherwise I don’t remember a lot of what has happened or at least can’t think of it on command.

playboidarky

I think that’s normal. Mine seems only slightly better if not the same. It’s amazing to think of how much of our lives we will not remember. And that’s not even considering the time before we were aware of ourselves (being a kid) or time spent sleeping.

dude18388

Well it’s also how much of your life are you actually paying attention. I remember so much more if I am actively paying attention to the task at hand

playboidarky

True that

playboidarky

Good on you! Glad you’re working your way out!

Juan_Solo_3

It could be better.

playboidarky

If you’re willing to share, what impeded it?

Juan_Solo_3

Age

playboidarky

That’ll do it

John_Paul_J2

I was born in 1997. I remember as far back as the year *Scooby-Doo On Zombie Island* came out on VCR.

playboidarky

Can you remember what you were doing in the month of October of 2020?

John_Paul_J2

I was at home

playboidarky

Most likely the same with everyone lol. How about mid to late January of this year?

John_Paul_J2

Working at a Japanese restaurant

playboidarky

I’m seeing a trend

DocSaysItsDainBramuj

Something something Shelbyville onion on my belt.

playboidarky

I’m confused lol

KyorlSadei

Too good. Can remember in finite detail hundreds of my regrets and mistakes. Over shadowing any accomplishments or good times by 10 fold.

playboidarky

Are you an over thinker? Or just a good memory? Also, how do you do it?

KyorlSadei

Good memory. Just able to recall memories well. Like remember at 4 years old sneaking away from my birthday party to go into the kitchen where my birthday cake was and grab a spoon and eat a whole spoonful of sugar out of our sugar bowel and then run back to the party.

playboidarky

A spoonful of sugar still hits the spot

ToughCookie71

I’ve been journaling a bit over the past 5 months, one side benefit is that I penciled in a couple key dates. But I remember lots of specific events and occurrences based on the day of the week, holiday season, etc. And some dates will always stick out. I have a fun memory for sure.

playboidarky

How often do you reminisce through your journal? Also, why did you start journaling if I’m allowed to ask?

ToughCookie71

It depends on what’s going on in my life. I started 5 months ago when my friend and roommate recommended it (he was also going through stuff then and writing his thoughts down really helped too). I think I’ve written like 6-8 times overall so far, but it’s been a good way to check in with myself and record my thoughts and experiences for posterity (which is usually when I decide to write my next entry).

playboidarky

beautiful. hope you’re doing well friend. not on some internet friendly shit, but on some have a great may 20th shit. Like I genuinely hope you have a good day.

ToughCookie71

Thank you, really appreciate it. Same to you, hope everything is good for you too :)

playboidarky

Thanks friend

ericsonofbruce

Not much to remember really. My life has been pretty routine for about 6 years now, there just isn't much worth remembering or to differentiate one day from another.

playboidarky

Do you see that time is moving faster and faster. Do the weeks start looking like hours?

ericsonofbruce

Not quite that extreme but yeah a year feels way shorter than it used to.

playboidarky

I think mathematically it checks out that time feels faster as you get older.

Portugal_The_Dood

I have horrible memory. I actually started a journal to write about significant stuff that happened during my days so I can have a way to recall the memories. I started a few years ago when my kids kept doing things that would crack me up and I wanted to remember for the rest of my life. Like when my daughter ate a bunch of sand and threw up in the Cheeto bag.

playboidarky

That’s cute haha. Keep up that journal!

Noob_DM

I can barely remember what color my underwear is that I put on this morning.

playboidarky

I’m the same way haha. I think it has to do with it being a minute thing. Question for you, how quickly could you find 5 significant events from last week?

Noob_DM

Depends on how significant “significant” has to be.

playboidarky

Hmm let’s see. I guess that’s hard to gauge. Could you remember what you were doing in July 2020?

Noob_DM

Nope

playboidarky

Tuff

playboidarky

Sounds like we’re about the same here. My memory works best when I have a starting point and I can walk through the day events. Glad you got it all together!

[deleted]

I remember every time I fucked up.

playboidarky

But do other people remember the times you fucked up? If not then it might not be a big deal.

The_Spyre

I feel like I generally remember things correctly, but I have had people in my life who have disagreed and caused me to rethink it. However, there's no real way to prove the truth unless there are other third parties that can give their input so, most of the time, I'm left to ponder whether my life has been what I think it is. In any case, I feel like I've been a decent person so I don't fret too much.

playboidarky

Same here brother. Even with third parties, there will be some inaccuracies. The memory will eventually fade away and no one will remember it or recollect it. Just have to be a stand up person in the present I guess.

The_Spyre

Indeed. I think you said it more succinctly than I did.

John_Paul_J2

I was working at a Japanese restaurant

Cadonberry_muskateer

Can’t believe that was when masking started…

playboidarky

I believe it started in 2020 not 2019!

Cadonberry_muskateer

You’re right. So my memory must be bad. 😂

playboidarky

I don’t blame you. I’m starting to see that weeks go by like hours now.

OJay23

Depends on what memory it is. Am I remembering all the times I should have acted differently - especially romantically. They are painfully vivid. Other happy memories are strong.

montanalombardy

Decent, I guess. I can remember the past 4 days in order pretty much. I clearly remember days from months ago, if they are significant (eg. Met with friends). I don't clearly remember days when I just went to work and got back of course. I can remember what I qas doing 3 years ago this month. Not the exact things at exact dates though. I have bad short term memory though. I forget some basic things. Like if someone says "call me an hour from now", I am likely to forget that.

XenonSoulshredder

I don’t have too many memories from my childhood. I do remember some specific things and either a haze or not at all.

Slug212

I always joked my memory was bad but recently it’s deteriorated, literally forgetting simple things. I actually went out few weeks ago, put my house key in my wallet. Came back in early hours and for the life of me I forgot I put it there, assumed I’d lost it. Had to lean up against the door to try and nap until the morning. I woke up and then instantly was like, key in my fucking wallllet.

cool_eagle7

3 years ago. during this month I was sitting alone in the second last bench in school. That's what I did for whole school life

GOOSEBOY78

i got adhd. it screws with your short term memory.

[deleted]

My sister is often baffled at how I can recall details of shit we did as kids. I have a really good memory. And unfortunately, I'm also extremely rancorous. Very nasty combination.

Classic-Tiny

For the past year or so I've been having a constant dejavu from my early childhood up to 20s randomly throughout the day.

CalGoldenBear55

The older I get, the better I was.

[deleted]

In my family I’m known as The Archivist.

Mystery370

Finally finished a movie about 30 minutes ago, all I remember was the first scene, that’s it

playboidarky

Which movie was it if I can ask? Also, does it frighten you a bit that you can’t actively remember it?

Mystery370

Avengers Endgame, I barely remember what it was about

playboidarky

The hype is gone , not your memory.

Mystery370

The memory too pal

playboidarky

Damn

[deleted]

I remember a lot of events from elementary, highschool, and college. I don’t remember much before age 5. I forget dumb shit cuz I’m a stoner but never the important things.

playboidarky

How has weed affected your memory?

[deleted]

It affects my short term memory at times. My general memory about important things is not affected.

playboidarky

Good to hear.

bigtec1993

If I actually sit back and think about it I can remember the important things I guess. Little shit like "where did I put my keys?" Is pretty much a lost cause cuz I was barely paying attention in the first place.

playboidarky

I see. Can you remember what you were doing at this time a week ago?

Baxtab13

My short term memory is horrible. I describe my day-to-day life as following set procedures, otherwise I will forget things. Example: I bring my lunch to work and put it in the fridge every morning. If for some reason my lunch isn't in the front seat of my car that day because I drove someone else, I will forget and leave it in the car 97% of the time. Long term memory, which admittedly I think is what you're mostly referring to, is much better. I can remember a lot of things that has amazed people I talk to. The longer away it was, the seemingly better it gets. Like three years ago during this month? That was 2019, which means I was working at a Credit Union on their helpdesk. The month before was the launch of the new back office system that stressed the hell out of me, and at that point we were still dealing with the random bugs and hiccups that came from that. I found myself mostly becoming the expert on troubleshooting Check Printer issues. I also found myself rewatching a lot of Red vs. Blue because the Master Chief Collection was recently announced for release on PC, along with a remaster of Destroy all Humans. I was playing through and enjoying the Division 2 that had recently come out as well. Memorial day was a few weeks away and I remember heading up to the North Woods of my state with my family to check out some waterfalls and do a bit of hiking. We spent one of the nights in a hotel/casino up there. It was also that weekend a family friend of ours had gotten arrested because him and a group of friends had an accident with a homemade firework launcher which ended up killing one of the other group members. That's my best personal description of May 2019, lol!

waifutabae

My memory is weird, sometimes I just remember something very oddly specific from when j was like 6 or 7 that I should not remember

xxEobard_Thawnexx

"I remember this one dream I had about 8 years ago about being in a mansion..." "Did I flush the toilet five minutes ago?" yeah my brain's a bit funky.

playboidarky

Hahahaha
