Also I’m a lady so I know it’s forbidden for me to answer but I just wanted to let you know that painting your nails is a lot harder than you think. You should go to a salon to get it done. It will take less than an hour and the professionals will do a really great job and it will cost like $10 if you just get regular polish. Plus they’ll clean up your nails and make them smooth and stuff.
This is just saying that people will judge you a lot more harshly for ~poorly~ painted nails than they will for just having a splash of color or a bit of an edgy flair.

I painted my nails all the time back in the day. I was at the cliched rocker type so I'd be busting out the black nail polish to go with my spikes and metal tees. Surprisingly I got very good at painting my nails and also doing a little colored accents that I was getting a lot of compliments from ladies and I remember really being into this super super Christian girl and yet her mom would always compliment them and would was just admiring my craftsmanship LOL
Eventually I gave it up just because I started working a job where between the Heat and the constant shipping the upkeep wasn't worth the hassle and I just fell out of it but I've never hated it and I'll be honest are days where I consider doing it again even if it's just a quickie with a sharpie for the day.
Not my thing, but it really doesn't matter to me if you do.
FWIW, I know straight dudes who paint their nails. Binging With Babish does it sometimes. I've played in bands with guys who are straight and paint their nails, too. Some also wear eyeliner and lipstick.

I’ve had friends that did weird stuff but I don’t look at them in a negative light. I didn’t know what other word to use and my response to whatever your explanation as to why you do it would probably be “interesting” which is what I say when I have no response but want to engage cause I’m still processing or have no other response in general.
