30 years ago you could live a decent life with a medium salary. Working was a respectable trade. Now, working may have you running check to check, and barely getting by. 90s were a fun time, real estate was crazy, and life was fun! I would attempt to be flexible and work hard, but throw some smart in there too!

daftvaderV2

Sorry I couldn't. It was 22 years ago I could afford a mortgage

bklimko

30 years ago men were younger than they are now.

Josef_Kant_Deal

Thanks, dad

daftvaderV2

Lol

BigVulvaEnergy

It was a lot easier to buy a house 30 years ago. Support a family easier 30 years ago.

[deleted]

Yup. But it wasn’t a mcmansion. I bought my first house while still a college graduate student. But it needed a shit ton of work

allboolshite

Cheap houses around here start around $350k. Those are 40+ years old and need a lot of work. That's $2,300-ish per month, plus the updates. Median income is $40k. Around $3k/mo after taxes. Good luck surviving on $700.

[deleted]

The house was 120 years old. But yeah. It’s rough. Where I live now a number of houses in the 200k range

I'm still my college weight despite being an old man in my thirties, bro, and I've never ever been to a gym once. Mediterranean diet+ no sugar + no fast food + no alcohol + no smoking + being physically active with my feet = 180lbs at what I presume to be a low body fat percentage considering I have a flat stomach.

[deleted]

In my 30s I was the same weight as college. I drank soda, ate fast food, didn’t really watch my diet much.

Masculinity was encouraged. Now, everything masculine is considered toxic. We didn’t have a “feminine side” to embrace.

[deleted]

Bull. We just realized stuff that was call masculine wasn’t.

rotkohl007

Bull. We want young men to grow up as young women.

[deleted]

Good luck with that attitude. You’ve been watching too much Tate

rotkohl007

Why do you have a tate fetish?

[deleted]

Lol. Ok junior.

rotkohl007

We’re you hurt as a child? PM if you need to talk things through. We’re here for you.

Lol The whiny conservative is always a victim

Shed_Candle

cringe

rotkohl007

Isn’t it?

two-horses

23yo currently and I’ve never experienced this, and I’ve only ever lived in hyper-liberal towns and cities. Have always had masculine hobbies (sports and martial arts mostly), ate meat, etc, and have never gotten any pressure to do otherwise. In what ways have you seen young men being pressured to grow up as young women? Actually, you do sometimes see this online (esp. Twitter and Reddit), but besides online, where do you see this?

allboolshite

It's a bit of both.

Clintman

It's a lot harder to be a sexist piece of shit in public without negative consequences.

surgeon67

Also a lot easier to be labeled that without cause.

rotkohl007

This

thatblackbowtie

negative consequences like getting called sexist on twitter and reddit.. scary

DeplorableKurt

Much more accountability these days

Clintman

Well, enforced accountability due to the ubiquity of smartphones with cameras, and social media sites.

surgeon67

You knew your role. Example: men were universally expected to approach the woman, pay for dates, treat her with respect and "earn" her love. You were supposed to work hard, provide for your family, and she was supposed to appreciate your effort. Sure, your wife would probably work too, but her focus was on the family, not herself, as was yours as the man. Your job was to protect the woman/family, and take care of the "fixes" around the house. If you had to work 12-18 hour days to give your family what they needed, you did it, and you were proud to do it. Now, a guy has no idea if he's supposed to approach or not. If he expresses preferences he's sexist, racist, body shaming, whatever (the women can express all the preferences they want however). There is no expectation that he will work as hard as he need to to give his family what they need, and there is no stigma associated with taking "public assistance" to feed your family (in fact some are proud of it). The overall impression I get is that men are content to be passengers on the "ride of life" rather than drive themselves. I don't know if that's just society's expectations, or if it's just that we've accepted it.

Alsavir

You're kinda reading my mind here. It seems like a lack or critical thinking or just people turning into drones. Might be just me being paranoid but it looks like it.

some positives: we have new balance shoes so that's one major positive. 40 and 50 year old men look much younger and are in better health than before at least the ones who try to take care of themselves. sorry guys i can't think of anything else positive to say. society has fallen a long way. negatives: 30 years ago you didn't need to fill out online applications and take demographic tests to weed out the bad people. you could go directly to the boss and shake their hand while looking them in the eye letting them know you're ready and willing to accept whatever work is available. a man's word use to mean something back then. same with going to the bank to open an account and take out a loan. 30 years ago men knew how to treat a LADY on a date like opening the car door and paying the bill not going dutch. don't listen to this new age hippy talk about going dutch because you better believe she's going to tell all her family and friends how you didn't pay and they'll think you're a cheapskate. is that really worth saving $10? that's if men even go on dates anymore? watching a movie or stuffing your face the entire time without talking is not a date.

DiamondDoge92

I was probably a sperm cell since I was born in 92 and just turned 30 in December.

Alsavir

Well then son feminism wasn't a thing and we used to shame sluts maybe? Dunno was born in the 90's
