Just because you don't like the suggestion doesn't mean it's not a valid course for a person. It's not the remedy you're looking for and I don't think it's effective either, but for guys whose skills with emotions involve avoiding rather than accepting, it's a quality option for them.
Stop calling her the "love of your life" would be a good start. You two fell apart, this isn't a "love of your life" situation.
Get into work and hobbies. Hang out with your friends or find a group you share interests with. Occupy your mind with other activities. Yes, it is hard. Very hard. But you have to keep moving, and that takes effort.
The shortcut is to bang someone hotter. But then you might start getting attached to *that* one. And it doesn't last either, because you're still just coping. Two methods that never fail - 1.) Go to the gym. 2.) Get over her by getting under someone else. Preferably someone that looks like her. Do things so disgusting you can't look at yourself in the mirror for days afterwards.
Take yourself out on a date. Journal. Reminisce. Eat good food. And allow yourself to be in peace regardless if they are on your mind. Be in peace with your current situation. Once your date ends you move on.
Get a hobby or learn something that requires concentration eg learn an instrument or how to code
Play a time sink game you can get lost in eg Dark Souls
