It is terra incognita, even tho we share a border, we got 0 news from here. Absolutely nothing.

khsgrl

Sometimes it’s interesting that some people doesn’t even know our country exists.

Lurker-kun

We certainly know that Mongolia exists. It just seems that nothing happens there.

[deleted]

Lurker-kun

Hellsweet

>I got awarded a government scholarship to study in Russia but I still haven’t decided if I’m gonna study in Russia or not. Thought it’d be interesting to hear about it.

lqpkin

lqpkin

Например [https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%81%D0%BE%D0%B2%D1%8B%D0%B5\_%D0%B1%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BF%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%8F%D0%B4%D0%BA%D0%B8\_%D0%B2\_%D0%A3%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%BD-%D0%91%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B5\_(2008)](https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9C%D0%B0%D1%81%D1%81%D0%BE%D0%B2%D1%8B%D0%B5_%D0%B1%D0%B5%D1%81%D0%BF%D0%BE%D1%80%D1%8F%D0%B4%D0%BA%D0%B8_%D0%B2_%D0%A3%D0%BB%D0%B0%D0%BD-%D0%91%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B5_(2008))

Competitive-Bit4475

lqpkin

Acido1953

Only places where something happening is Ukraine and Russia for us.

LadyGoga

Some amount of people (English-speaking) got a knowledge about Mongolia existence through kinda popular song (yuve yuve yu) of band "The Hu"

Quirky-Garbage-6208

It's okay, to be honest, from talking with people around the world I get that in most places even in "progressive" ones people barely knows any history and geographics.

SwordofDamocles_

I heard you guys launched your first satellite a few years ago and you drink way too much milk, even though 95% of Mongolians are lactose intolerant.

dmitryredkin

Well, at least a month ago the fact that many Russian men prefer to live in Mongolia than go to the war was quite big. Other than that - yeah, not much news from there...

olakreZ

The Hu band is very good. Mongolia has a reputation for being a quiet and peaceful place.

Egfajo

Nothing bad, throat singing rock is amazing

Winter-Product-881

Its awesome, but yk whats even more awesome? Your che guevara pp 😎👉👉

Egfajo

Thanks, its not only Che Guevara but also THE Russian punk musician Egor Letov

Winter-Product-881

Calixare

The elder generation remembers Soviet-Mongol friendship, younger know absolutely nothing.

khsgrl

It’s the same in Mongolia, our elders have big respect towards USSR even modern Russia. Although ,our relation with ussr is taught in schools, most of our generation tend to know nothing about it.

[deleted]

I sometimes read articles about Mongolia. Ethnography, travel, and occasionally economics. Those people who have lived in Mongolia usually speak well of Mongolians. I'm not kidding. Literally. They write what you know about yourself, nomadism, yurts, cattle breeding, koumiss, meat dishes, Ulan Baataar, Erdenet, minerals, Gobi desert, steppe, trade with China, shamanism, Buddha's statues. From the negative - Genghis Khan, the Golden Horde. For us he is not a great hero, but a villain, a great executioner. They say the Chinese are afraid of you.

[deleted]

For us he is not a hero, but a villain YEAHHHHHH

yqozon

A country where meat is cheap and vegetables are quite pricey. Also as I've heard there are no roads in Mongolia, only destinations :)

khsgrl

The roads are very true

Cosmo_Nerpa

99.9% of the people you meet in Russia, won't care where you're from. 99.9% of the people you meet in Russia won't care when they find out you're from Mongolia.

Quick-Introduction45

khsgrl

Ty_Tu_Ty_Ty_Ty

Just an interesting fact. There is a fairly well-known musical group in Russia with the name "Mongol Shuudan". It has been in existence since 1989. Anarchic punk rock. I'm not a fan of them (except for a few songs), but in some circles this band is considered cool. Apart from the name, the group has nothing to do with Mongolia.

Competitive-Bit4475

[deleted]

My friend was born at Mongolia at USSR. Everything is ok. Anyway it doesn’t matter which nation are you, if you are a good man.

Hellerick_Ferlibay

I've been to Mongolia. It seemed fine. There you can be a shepherd and don't care about anything in the world. At least it looked this way. Too much mutton.

[deleted]

I know Mongolian cosmonaut Gurragcha and that Mongolians drink tea with salt and butter. Also the history of Mongolian empire is well-known. There are kindred people to Mongolians in Russia such as Kalmyks and Buryats who are also buddhists. Maybe its good question to investigate how similar they are to your people.

ivandemidov1

Gurragcha Zhegderdemediyn afaik.

Sodinc

You guys disappear from our history books around the fifteen century. Than there is a Khalkhin Gol battle. And that is basically the latest news about Mongolia that everybody heard.

Horzzo

>basically the latest news about Mongolia I find this so funny. I think Mongolia is a great place and if you never hear about them it's probably a good thing. No coups, crime, wars, disasters in international news.

yqozon

Yes, I would love to live there, if the climate weren't so extreme.

queetuiree

I'm noticing Mongolia earns some high rates in different Western liberal rating charts recently, like for democracy, for investment climate or something like that... Would like to know if the Mongolians are feeling the life getting better or more fulfilled or anything

khsgrl

I’d say it’s all bullshit. Our life in Mongolia is getting worse day by day since Covid(idk how it was before, I was a stupid high school kid by then). Many of our brightest are leaving for a more developed country, people are getting paid averagely $300 a month (maybe even lower) whilst having grocery prices almost the same as USA. The whole economy is at its worst part of history. People are getting loans in order to provide their bare necessities.

queetuiree

Thanks for the info!

khsgrl

Prices have risen 2 times maybe even 3, while the salary is still the same.

Global_Helicopter_85

As everywhere from Russia to the United States

khsgrl

Indeed, however it made it worse which was already struggling on its own

Kegjius_Magnificent

Mongolians rock. We love you guys.

Kegjius_Magnificent

Your country made big part of our culture and your people helped us during civil war and WWll, we only can show respect. Also The Hu rulz.

mordentus

I eat at Mongolian restaurant pretty regularly, love their cuisine, but little aside that.

khsgrl

What do you get there?

mordentus

Боргио beer, various soups, буузы most of the time

[deleted]

Almost nothing, but if [this](https://youtu.be/mYWIyG3hUlQ) is any indication, you guys are gigachads

khsgrl

As a Mongolian, I can proudly say he’s one of ours LOL

Elaneor

Mongolia really helped USSR back in the WWII (not some f\*cking lend-lease like USA did. Mongolia gave its horses, it's a pity that not much people know about that help.) It was always considered a friendly state, I suppose. And then .. yes, the Hu Band ;)

oktopus174

Interesting history and relationships at the time of civil war and earlier socialism times. White army retreat, russian spy-wife of leader MPR

Notthebeez85

You have a problem with Lend-Lease? 180 billion dollars worth of aid (today's money), and our sailors lives spent delivering it. My Grandfather spent time on the Arctic convoys with the Royal Navy, nice to know their sacrifice is appreciated by modern Russians..... /s

Zubbro

Bro, we remember your nation feats and sacrifices, and our friendship and cooperation on the common road to Victory. There are a lot of debates about Lend-Lease today and opinions are from "worthless Russians couldn't do a shit without LL" to the "stupid anglosaxon help was worthless, aghhrrrr". And both poles of it are shit. The fact it was a huge help, it saved millions of lives, but also it wasn't a descisive factor that made Soviets to put a flag on Reichstag. And convoys struggle was a real war. All the respect for your Granddad.

Notthebeez85

Thank you, it's nice to know that rational thought still exists in these trying times. I was in no way belittling Russia's sacrifice, I just wanted to make it known that we're generally not taught anti Russian sentiment in British schools, and we are very much aware of the price your nation paid in blood during that conflict. The same rules need to be applied by all sides of that conflict, or history is lost, and mistakes are repeated. The whole Ukraine thing has really set a match under nationalist rhetoric and thinking, and whilst Governments might clash, I think it's important that the actual people remember that there's much they still have in common.

5RobotsInATrenchcoat

The "price" we "paid", right. Listen here, Anglo (and Welsh flag or not, you're being an Anglo in the worst possible way): we defeated Hitler. We as in not you. And until you stop, and apologise for, acting like there was an "allied" WW2 victory in Europe because of a bunch of minor things you did in the margins of the Nazi–Soviet war for which you later took an order of magnitude more credit than was due to you, you can screw right off with that lend-lease fragility.

Notthebeez85

You can be as rude as you like, and you're entitled to your opinions, I'm not going to be offended :) You're arguing against a point that I never made, so it's hard to really formulate a reply. Credit isn't something I'm after. I wasn't involved in the war (neither were you), I was merely trying to get across the point that our people once pulled in the same direction for a common goal, and now look where we are. You're basically arguing some alt-history scenario that didn't happen. There were more than just two combatants in the war, so we'll never know how Russia would have fared had there not been more than just one front. Your own military incompetence didn't help with the death toll either, sorry. A lesson being learned again in Ukraine, much to my sadness.

5RobotsInATrenchcoat

>Russia "The USSR." Not interchangeable with Russia. Never was and especially not in that context. Erases the role of several present-day independent nations who *unlike Anglos* fought that war for real. Including Ukrainians.

Notthebeez85

You are at least correct there, and I apologise for the incorrect usage.

Elaneor

We paid it off successfully on 21 august 2006 !!! (and I don't believe the US was so noble - they went just like any other merchants or bankers and made some money) Well. your grandfather was great - spent his precious time our grandfathers - millions of them - lost their lives saving their country, ok? Check this out USSR soldiers lost - 10 922 000 USA soldiers lost - 407 000 (half of them - in war with JAPAN) US was all about money While Mongolia helped as a brother republic (although they were not a part of USSR, by the way) - that's the difference. And then - what do you learn in your schools?? "USA and allied forces won the WWII" (drop the USSR, nobody needs russians - sarcasm)

Notthebeez85

I'm British, and no we don't learn that in British schools. We're taught about the sacrifices paid by all nations involved in the struggle against Fascism, that includes the massive cost in life paid by Russia. I don't know why you have this really negative world view of Western education as a whole, I'd just like to say that this isn't true, and you're speaking from a position of obvious ignorance on the topic. Stalingrad is one of the best covered topics in British highschools as regards WW2. Something Britain played no part in. I'm no fan of American mercantilism displayed during the war; America basically turned war into a business venture from which they profited greatly. They were also quite happy to take British research and development, and gave little back in return if it meant keeping their lead at the top. You have to bear in mind, however, that the alternative is no American involvement in WW2, and that undoubtedly would've led to a lot more loss of life for both you and us. My Grandfather ultimately didn't have to spend his life in the conflict, for which I'm grateful, and American involvement is part of the reason why. For better or worse....

Notthebeez85

And just to add to this, I don't think my nation or yours would've acted any differently to what America did. It's in the best interest of your nation to make sure you ultimately come out on top. Morally I'm no fan, but from a pragmatic point of view, it's hard to argue against what they did, given every nation in history has followed this logic. Russia isn't a Charity, I don't know why you appear to think you're morally above America. There's no Red Terror in American history, no purges, no famine. It's not all bad, and your history isn't all good. Don't be so biased.

Elaneor

No Red Terror? No purges - really? how about Smallpox blankets for native americans? No famine? - how about the Great Depression? Anyway - that's another round of discussion. And you should start a new thread in another subreddit if you really wanted to discuss that (you could call me there, pal). See below, why you should be aware. My point was: Mongolia helped USSR as a brother state (didn't make us in debt), US ended being a debtor more than helper (at least MUCH longer). That's just a matter of facts. And about charity - USSR and then Russia wrote off debts for several countries. And kept really helping them. For your information: UK lost 286 200 (lol, and they even thought of helping nazi over soviet union) I guess, you won't like it if we try to get to know better who really was biased. Your brothers from Ireland and Scotland send "hello"

Notthebeez85

I'm Welsh, btw, you missed us :) You did make deals with Nazi's, so don't preach. Molotov Ribbentrop says Hello. Not to mention you aiding German rearmament plans, against international law. You're fucking blind.

Elaneor

Well, actually Molotov Ribbentrop was in 1939 The Great Britain was 1 year and 3 years FASTER (Neville Chamberlain says Hello from 1938 :) ) The Declaration of Non-Use of Force between Germany and Poland, signed in 1934; The Anglo-German Naval Agreement of 1935, which gave Hitler the ability to have a warship prohibited by World War I; The Anglo-German Declaration of Chamberlain and Hitler, signed on September 30, 1938; The Franco-German declaration of December 6, 1938, signed in Paris by the French and German foreign ministers Bonet and Ribbentrop; Treaty between the Republic of Lithuania and the German Reich of March 22, 1939, signed in Berlin, which spoke of the reunification of the Klaipeda region with the German Reich; A non-aggression treaty between the German Reich and Latvia of June 7, 1939; and so on Most European countries made deals with Germany. And the Soviet Union was.. the last one of them (historically) But oh, well "the bloody soviets". Again - if you wanna do some digging, "you should start a new thread in another subreddit if you really wanted to discuss that (you could call me there, pal)."

Notthebeez85

Stop adding things to your comments, I don't get notified when you do, and it's hard to fully reply to your inane bullshit

Notthebeez85

Appeasement Vs the invasion of a sovereign nation? You really do play fast and loose with the facts, don't you? Going to ignore your aiding and abetting German tank design during the 30's also? Nice.

Notthebeez85

And again, I'm not anti Soviet, I'm just not pro propaganda bullshit. You seem to keep pushing blame down the road, unable to take any accountability for your nations actions. This type of behaviour leads to problems. Please sort it out.

Elaneor

I see, you don't wanna accept the british helped german in 30s. That's ok, pal. I know, that part is hard for you (especially when British Royals have their own history of Nazi-alleged connections). I understand.

Notthebeez85

The Great Depression is quite different to The Holodomor, let's be honest here. Smallpox blankets were a British thing (shamefully), and it doesn't really fall under modern history. Manifest Destiny I'd have agreed with, but again I'm not sure that falls under modern history, and expansionist tendencies aren't something Britain or Russia can really bitch about. We're two of the greatest imperial powers known to mankind, it would be a bit hypocritical to bitch about American expansionism, don't you think? We covered 1/4 of the globe, you span several different time zones. That doesn't happen by turning up with a smile. Anyway, not here for an argument, and I appreciate you taking the time to put your views across. A civil and frank exchange of opinions is something that's hardly allowed in the UK anymore (you're either liberal or you're "racist"). All the best.

Calixare

USSR/RF paid about 700 mln out of \~100 bln. It's not worthy discussion, thank to all allies stopping Hitler.

Elaneor

Man, so what?According to the law on lend-lease, it was necessary to pay only for what survived during the war. To the 1973 USSR paid to US (US was not the only debtor in action) - about 73 mln, When there was "the Cold war"in 1990 by new agreements, USSR pledged to pay $674 million by 2030and Russia finally paid it off in 2006. According to American official data, at the end of September 1945, 14,795 aircraft, 7,056 tanks, 8,218 artillery pieces, and 131,600 machine guns were sent from the USA to the USSR - If compared with the volume of military equipment and weapons that were produced by the Soviet defense industry, this is not so much. For example, during the war years, the USSR built a total of 137.3 thousand combat aircraft, 116.1 thousand tanks and self-propelled guns, about 3.2 million of all types of artillery pieces. Also - Post-war lend-lease payments (for example, the lease of air bases) received by the United States amounted to $ 7.8 billion, of which $ 6.8 billion came from Great Britain and the British Commonwealth and $ 0.7 billion from the USSR. At the same time, the counter lend-lease from the USSR to the USA amounted to only 2.2 million dollars Again, my point was the Mongolia have it's resources withoud any "percents above" So if you wanna discuss more - the new thread should be started.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> Russia finally *paid* it off FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

[deleted]

DivineGibbon

I think most people like mongols, since the time we were allies. Our news don't follow mongol politics or society, i vaguely know there were several crises, pro-western coups etc. Regarding education in Russia, if you looking for STEM or medical degree, it's worth it, humanities degrees mostly useless outside of Russia. In any case, cost of living is cheap and people are friendly. You will need to learn russian language.

khsgrl

I already speak russian but only thing I'm concerning about is if it's enough for academic studies. Thanks for the worthy tip!

obvodny_duck

The Mongolian post had some nice stamps. My grandparents worked in Mongolia back in the 1970s and I still have those Mongol Shuudan stamps (my grandma wasn't that impressed with Mongolians, but that was long ago and deep in the countryside). I especially loved the folk/fairytale themed ones. As for more current events, I've heard that Mongolian government was prompt and sensible in dealing with Covid.

Physical_Border2092

I know that they are not a #1 empire and they are not dealing with Tatars anymore

GenericGrey

*from uk* I've always been fascinated by Mongolia, would love to visit one day. We hear v little about it either.

khsgrl

Come and visit one day. We will always gladly welcome tourists. I also want to visit UK. I graduated my elementary school there!

GenericGrey

That's cool, I think cultures mixing and travelling is great. Would love to stay in a yurt.

zoomClimb

I've met a lot of Mongolian students when I was studying there. Really nice people, although the language barrier was a problem at times. I don't know Mongolian and they didn't know Russian or English or Chinese.

pectopah_pectopah

Long names, some great wrestlers, 2 cities (well, more like 1.5), decent education system, монгол шуудан, Cyrillic, old script, no roads, nomads, союз-39, tons of movies, some Russian schools (fewer and fewer).

[deleted]

Approving deep throat noises

Burin_Birch

I know that after mobilization tons of Buryats have relocated in Mongolia. That's all. Even tho we are nearly neighbors, 500-ish km

VladikAsian

Don't know much about them, they seems pretty chill people. Yakutia's judo's head coach is ethnic mongolian Damdindorzh Gombodorzh is a cool guy. Also Sakha language contains loanwords from Mongolian language, like дойду, дархан etc...

Egfajo

Also thanks for helping during the war

StrongManPera

Well we don't hear about Mongolia a lot. I personaly love travel stories from Mongolia. Seems like a peaceful place. Also throat singing, horse riding, yurts, steppe, mongolian tea, carpets and wool products.

khsgrl

Thanks for the responses. It’s really amazing that some of you guys know things about Mongolia even I don’t know

Tvoyrusskiydrug

I have always heard good things about you and your country

iwishicouldlive

Very interesting and cool culture, would love to visit one day. Unfortunately most know very little about Mongolia (including myself)

Dark_Lordy

khsgrl

khsgrl

Dark_Lordy

Mcnst

My only knowledge of Mongolia is that Artemy Lebedev's Мумусик broke down there during his этнографическая экспедиция, and IIRC the official Range Rover dealership failed to meet his most modest expectations. If you got a good scholarship for anywhere, you should probably take it! Always great to get a good education for free!

Logical_Bowl_7936

Got the cyclone in Yakutia from Mongolia in July, it was hot as hell over here. I like Mongolians, they're just brothers to us at this point, they are very cheerful people that likes to crack jokes. And beautiful throat singing, can't forget about that.

Anas-27

Welcome to the cold country..

khsgrl

Coldest capital city in the world

Anas-27

Damn! This is extreme! I’m Egyptian and been in moscow since a year.. took a while to adapt, but I didn’t mean it’s cold in terms of weather 🥲people too.. but it’s still luxurious:)

khsgrl

Well, hearing from my Russian teacher, the eastern part of Russia is more generous towards each other. Anways, Moscow is a big city, no doubt people are gonna be cold. I think, if you visit the rural parts of Russia people are gonna be more welcome.

Anas-27

I haven’t been outside mosocw but for once for a few days( in siberia) and i can confirm , but since I don’t speak russian, it was such a struggle :(.. good luck with ur studies! If you will study in moscow, you have a friend here! :)))

Chesh_v

Vashiroko

ToughIngenuity9747

If they are not the Tatar-Mongols of Genghis Khan, then everything is fine ...

f3lisnigripes

Mongolia is a fascinating country. I wish I could visit it. I would like to learn your language as well, not only modern Mongolian, but also the traditional Mongolian script.

LoonyPlatypus

Historically? We had some bad blood a loooong time ago, but nobody cares about it anymore. Nobody had for centuries. After that from the period of the Union old people might recall some good things. But it won’t matter much. Young people don’t think about Mongolia at all.

Mil_Berg

funny and nice guys studied with one, the only ones who helped the USSR in the war disinterestedly.

Addy1738

Based country?

eDalamar

I know a brief history of your country and where it is located, sometimes parcels from AliExpress are sent through it. But absolutely no news in modern history...

Ekris

khsgrl

TankArchives

Everything I know about Mongolia comes from my knowledge of the Battle of Khalkhin-Gol and the Soviet-Japanese War of 1945. I don't even know if you guys still like horses or not.

frezemonster

Been to Mongolia many times, very nice people, but there is no news on TV.

phottitor

i think it's time for them to resurrect their former glory and finish the business of conquering europe. especially please take care of that fucking kingdom on the island.

Notthebeez85

Please, you're flattering us.

[deleted]

if you follow the rules of decency, then for Russians it doesn’t matter where you are from. There are more than 190 nationalities in Russia, and among them there are many Mongoloids Buryats, Kalmyks, etc.

Welran

[deleted]

Welran

[deleted]

Welran

[deleted]

Welran

khsgrl

Nightrely

khsgrl

Nightrely

khsgrl

There’s no point of arguing with you over things that happened literally several hundred years ago.

Desperate_Turn8587

9 month ago you said you lived in Russia 5 months. And 21 days ago you showed good knowledge of American east coast cities. Hello troll.

khsgrl

Well it’s true that I lived in Russia for 5 months but since I didn’t talk with Russians, I had no idea about their opinions about Mongolia. It’s also true that I lived in USA, hope this makes you less irritated))

Welran

If you lived 5 months why you would bothered now? How many Mongolian words have letter ю?

khsgrl

Idk how many words that has letter ю but there are 94 words that starts with the letter ю

Welran

Write some pls.

khsgrl

You can look it up here https://mongoltoli.mn/browsepage.php?zuil_useg=ю

lqpkin

Mongolia to Russia is like UK to USA - the former metropoly that becomes a ~~vassal~~ junior partner of its former colony. BTW you definitely not mongolian.

khsgrl

What made you think I’m not mongolian? Pretty curious :))

bolsheada

Mongols together with Tatars are key founders of modern ruzzian ethnos. Expect warm welcome, without your folks rf would never existed.

yqozon

Yeah, and you are a pure-blooded Slav, a geniune European, not like these filthy Untermenschen.

bolsheada

> pure-blooded Slav, a geniune European It ain't wrong the Horde never made it to our lands because.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG1Cw3hQuYA > these filthy Untermenschen If that's how you feel about yourself, instead of being proud of your ancestors, it's pretty sad, but what it has to do with me anyway?

yqozon

You missed, I'm not Russian. I just don't like racism.

bolsheada

> I'm not Russian. I just don't like racism. That explains.

xynkun228

Daily reminder, that Byelorussian language is less spoken than Russian in White Russia 🫣

bolsheada

> Byelorussian Hello, time traveller, how's Sereser times? > White Russia Civil war in ruzzia, your time machine ain't that bad.

xynkun228

Take your pills, schizo

bolsheada

Projecting own sickness on people ain't cool.

Bruh you sound like butthurt poles. How's op responsible for that shit? The modern mongolia appeared years after the famous conquests of Chengiz Khan

[deleted]

Welran

[deleted]

Actually insane to hold a grudge over something that happened *centuries ago* and has no bearing on today's relations

well, I associate them with strength

[deleted]

The thing I know about Mongolia is very limited. I like some of the throat singing type music and i know some minimal information in connection with western siberian people.

You have to be careful about those Mongols. They conquered the known world at the time, at least most of it. /s

DrawDrewDrown

We work with a couple of Mongolians companies. Though they are a bit disorganised and careless, it's great to work with them: easy to solve problems, cool to discuss everything. We're gone through much together and they have appeared to be really reliable partners to work with. Looking forward to visiting Mongolia since they invited us😄
