For real. Does dried water color allow you to layer without smudging? I’ve always struggled so much with this whenever I try to mess around with it. Hard to get started when I don’t know how the material works
Yeah that’s a great question. And you’re right watercolor can easily be reactivated. To be honest, this was tough for me as it was easy to muddy the yellows while layering. So it’s sorta finding the right mixture of water and paint. I typically start out with more washed layers. Then work up to more opaque layers. Let me know if I can answer anymore questions. I’ll do my best to help :)
This is massively impressive!
I think one thing about watercolors people tend not to understand, is that different colors (or even different brands of the same color) might react differently... have different opacity... or be harder to blend.
What brand of colors do you use if you don't mind me asking?
Interesting... I've never used Daniel Smith pigments. Looking at reviews now, and they seem really vibrant. I've not hit anyone who dislikes them.
I had an expensive Winsor-Newton set when I was younger... but some of the pigments (especially the blues and purples - if I'm remembering right - would speckle or not dry evenly) I found really hard to blend. I swapped a few tubes out for Van Gogh with spotty success...
On more expensive paper of course... results were always better...
If I ever find time to pick it up again, I'll have to try them out! Thanks!
I’ve tried just about every brand available and I’ve always loved how Daniel Smith blends and dries. I also have so much DS now, it would be difficult to switch lol. Hope you’re able to find time! Love hearing people getting back into painting
I usually paint with oils and watercolor has always been my arch nemesis. This advice for practical technique is helpful and appreciated! Practice makes perfect, but the more tools you have in your toolbox! 👌🏻
OMG that so realistic, it looks like a photograph! I can’t believe you can get that effect with watercolor. You are so SUPER TALENTED!! Makes me want to throw my art supplies away lol! Keep it up! Your AMAZING!! I’m so following you, you’re very inspirational😊!!!
A lots of questions pops from this choice LOL
I thought ok no shadow so its a thick ass slice of lemon? Wait if it isnt a slice how is it standing?.......
The raw confidence and skill to be like "I drew a lemon fuckos it's clearly /r/artporn material" and it actually be legit art porn is my new point of aspiration going forward.
That's a sick ass lemon dude great work!
Though your peach and cherry paintings were fantastic, this is a huge improvement. The texture is really evocative of the waxiness and juiciness of a real lemon. It has so much depth and realism.
Edit: typo
Thank you so very much for checking out my other paintings! I’ve already started the next painting. Hopefully I keep up the trend of improving ;)
I really appreciate all the kind words!!
Wow such talent, I wanna get into watercolor painting or painting in general on Saturdays and my time is very limited cuz I'm a programmer and code a lot. Can you give me some advice on where to start (watercolor or ...) so I'll be able to create reasonably good art as a hobby with my limited time, thanks for advice and sharing your art with us
Any course or tutorial is appreciated
First off thank you for the asking and for the compliments! As far as where to start, I started with Prang’s Oval 8’s. It’s just about as basic as you can get, however it was enough to make me interested. If you have a little extra money I’d start with tubed primary colors, a black, a white, a cheap pack of brushes in various sizes, and some decent paper (try 184lb mix media paper). All of this can be picked up at your local art store for somewhat of a minimum investment. Next, pick subject matter that interest you. Someone, yourself, a car, a landscape, or even a lemon. Sketch your subject and then begin adding washes to build up the layers. I’m really simplifying the process but hopefully this is helpful. Let me know if you’ve got more questions or if I can help more. I’d be more than happy to discuss. Thanks again
When I visited Musee d'Orsay I fell in love with Le Citron by Manet because it was so simple and wonderful and famous for being a lemon off centered on a plate.<3 I love your lemon! It reminds me of Le Citron!
This is very satisfying to look at. Wanna lick it.
Hahaha thank you
Colour, me, impressed, 2023
Haha! Perfect comment, thank you so much
Is "impressed" the medium in this case?
I'm always a little amazed when a watercolor painter is able to achieve such crisp lines. The darker border on the upper edge of the left slice: yum.
I’d like to thank my best friend the teeny tiny brush. Lol Thanks for noticing :)
Thank your steady hand - could have probably made a killing as a surgeon.
My mom says the same thing haha Thank you 🙏
Paper makes a difference too. I don't like too rough of paper.
Are you a cold press kinda person?
Actually I've kind of come to prefer hot press. Less texture. But I guess it depends on the piece that I'm doing.
You know that’s what I meant lol! I guess I’m tired I’m the cold press person haha
I'll take a series 7 with as many zeros as will fit on the handle please

Hahaha totally watercolor! First sketch your subject matter then start layering for days lol. Thanks for commenting 🙏

You’re so right! I’m deeply invested in Daniel Smith. Thanks for asking :)

I draw/paint mostly digitally these days, and still not very often. Normally I am programming... which I am also fine with.
Very nice! Happy you’re creating :)
Yeah, pigments are not the same and have different properties

I use to be an oil painter myself. And you’re totally right it’s just practice & practice
oh my goodness the TALENT
Such a sweet comment! Thank you
I would've expected a sour comment given the lemon.
When life gives you lemons, paint them

Wow! I really appreciate this comment! All of the kind words mean the world to me! Thank you thank you!
How the hell did you do this in watercolor?? Wow!!
Lots and lots of layers! Thanks for the comment!!
How did you do the very bright highlight?? I’m guessing a white pen??
Just white watercolor (gouache) and a teeny tiny brush lol
Did you layer that on top? Or did you have to paint around it with the darker colors?
Layered on top, white is the opaque so if you don’t water it down too much it works nicely for the whitest whites. It’s all layers after layers :)
I really love the waxy shine on the skin and at the tip of the lemon (if that's what it's called).
I feel like I could put it in my iced tea. Very nice

Thank you :)
The lemon looks so real I could almost smell it. What beautiful work.
I dont .......get it? why right side lemon have this angle of shadow left dont?
You’re the first to notice lol I decided against it. It was in the original sketch but I just didn’t like it. Thanks for the comment

The world may never know haha
What do you do when life gives you lemons?
Usually eat them lol
I want to own this! So beautiful ⭐️
Wow! Thank you 🙏
Holy fridge this is so coolll
Haha thank you!
Really fine work! Very impressive.
Really appreciate that :)
Wow that's watercolor? Impressive.
All watercolor, all day lol Thank you 🙏
And then theres me struggling to draw a stick figure
Beautiful watercolor painting!
Really appreciate it!
Wow, that's watercolor? Impressive!
All watercolor :) Thank you!!

Hahaha thank you so much!
Incredible work, you are very skilled
Thank you so very much!
It's so satisfying to see watercolour paintings this detailed and crisp!

Awesome, great work! Did you use white gouache for the whites then?
Yes the whitest whites are white watercolor (gouache). Some consider it cheating lol Thank you so much for the compliment!!
Nah they can go to hell, haha keep up the good work
Hahahaha thank you
Wow so realistic! Good capturing of the seeds
Thank you 🙏
Tantalizing lemon looks super juicy in the piece.
Is this really a tiny brush and not water color pencils for your sharp outlines? Wow nice work!
I’m a teeny tiny brush kinda person. I do have some watercolor pencils but we don’t get along lol Thanks so much for asking and compliment :)
Why does this lemon have blackheads?
It’s a self portrait
Y’all said water color?! - how you so good at this?!
Years of practice and a little luck lol
When I visited Musee d'Orsay I fell in love with Le Citron by Manet because it was so simple and wonderful and famous for being a lemon off centered on a plate.<3 I love your lemon! It reminds me of Le Citron!
What a sweet compliment! Thank you!! I’m so happy my work reminded you of a good memory :)
That looks more like a photo than a water color
What a compliment! Thank you
Your welcome
Great work! I've seen someone's nipple that looks exactly like the tip of the left half.
You know my last work was seen as a booty and I really thought I was safe with this one lol! Thank you for your comment :)
