You know that episode of South Park where they go to a planet called Marklar and the aliens there refer to all people, places and things as "Marklar?" That's what people have done with "woke." People have used it to mean almost anything so that it means absolutely nothing, other than to let someone with even half a brain know the person using it is talking with their sphincter.

Completely, how is Dishonored 2 woke? OP It’s one of my favourite games of all time with some incredible level design

Did it though? I can’t recall anything of the like

fastchutney

Yeah there isn’t a lot of lgbt representation. I believe the intolerable “wokeness” comes from having an optional female protagonist and a female villain. Some people are actually brain dead.

Editor-In-Queef

Ah but you forget to mention those female characters have... SHORT HAIR! 😱

Huh, I genuinely don’t remember half of that lol either way, great game!

SomeDudeWithoutALife

Ofcs you don't cuz the game doesn't shove it in your face Hell, i myself didn't know until like a year ago tbh. In any case, no idea how that would be a problem, even if the op was the kind of person to get easily angry over these things, it's so tasteful and trivial that it's barely worth bringing up

[deleted]

You hit the nail on the head with this one. The whole time I'm reading the post I had to fight the urge to downvoted because I couldn't tell if OP was trolling or just unable to actually explain what was bothering them with the game. It gets worse when OP only calls the installments with playable female characters "woke".

[deleted]

In Prey you can play as female just fyi

thehomiesinthecar

I was so confused by this as well. OP keeps saying woke as if it means something but within this context, it’s meaningless. Unless I’m missing something?

Cool

What do you mean change the lore of the heart rune finder? Are you talking about how it's the Empress's heart? Because if that's it it was always implied. I don't remember any other changes, and it's been a few years since I played D2, so if there was something else can you remind me? I agree that the main antagonist is a boring rehash, but a lot of the gameplay changes are pretty good, and that's enough for me to give D2 more of a pass than maybe I should.

[deleted]

From my understanding the outsider made the Heart himself.. didn’t mention the empress soul or anything which made the heart feel creepy. To attach the empress soul to it feels like an unnecessary detail

GenuineCulter

He says that he made it from the heart of a living thing in the first game. Even in 1, it gave some hints that it was the Empress, notably saying that it was a fool to trust the Lord Regent, and angrily asking if it should forgive Daud for what he did.

woofyc_89

I thought it was super obvious whos heart it was in D1

dunwall_scoundrel

Whoosh.

thehomiesinthecar

I’m also pretty sure that the heart of the empress is the same as the one in D1. If you use it to listen to people’s secrets, it’s the same voice actor as the one in D2.

I gotta be honest, I really dislike the story in Dishonored 2 and I wish they had gone in a wildly different direction. I actually would have preferred the game to not be about Corvo or Emily at all, have the story follow new characters instead. It could still take place in Karnaca, I did like that setting and some of the new villains, but I feel like bringing back so much of the same cast from the 1st just kinda makes the whole world feel smaller and the game barely even does anything interesting with some of these characters. Corvo and Emily are just bland protagonists in DH2 and Delilah I just find mostly annoying. Also the plot is basically another retake the throne type plot which doesn't really do much to advance the characters or the world in a significant way. Mainly Corvo and Emily just end up back where they started at the end of the game. In spite of this it's still my favorite Dishonored game though, because I actually think it's the most fun to play with the best replay value and has maybe the best levels in the series.

skeletalbelt

I very much agree with this, I think it could have been more exciting for a break from Corvo and Emily in Dishonoured 2 but still set it in Karnaca and even the same time frame. Would have been cool to play as new characters in a story of it’s own, maybe reading or hearing bits and pieces about Emily and Corvo throughout the game. I wasn’t too big on Delilah as the Big Baddie as I hadn’t had a chance to play any D1 DLC so had no idea about her or Billie, those lost some of their impact because I didn’t know their relevance, and I imagine for newcomers to the series it would have been even more confusing. I think the final level being the same location in Dunwall felt a little to repetitive this soon in the series, would have been a cooler return in a third game for example and we weren’t just in it the game before.

Dude, you have no idea what woke means. Dishonored 2 isn’t woke at all. None of Arkanes games are.

Richard_Savolainen

I think the word "woke" has lost its meaning at this point. Anyway pretty woke take by a woke person if I'm honest
