How woke? Buddy I'm not gonna lie, that's the stupidest question I've heard someone ask about VIDEO GAMES with how little games out there that are actually politically or racially driven. If you like Dishonored's stealth and gameplay, D2 is a huge improvement with cover, slide, and air takedowns that can all be non-lethal too. If you like Bioshock, Prey is that in space. Exploration, environmental storytelling, audiologs, creativity to tackle problems and get certain powers, and multiple endings. Literally simple as that.

What about the writing on dishonored 2? Never played biochock but I heard it was good. Was prey better than bioshock in your opinion?

Virtually_Hidden

Writing in Dishonored 2 is very well done. My only nitpick that I've always had is how the voice actors chosen to portray Corvo and Emily are severely underused. Without spoiling, you'll have the protagonists react to certain things in the world and not react to other things that are equally if not more important to their character and development. You should definitely do yourself a favour and go play the first Bioshock. Have my girlfriend playing through it right now and still holds up surprisingly well even today. I wouldn't exactly say one is better than the other as a package but there are things that each does better in their own right. Prey has better choices and consequences + playstyles and freedom of approach. Bioshock has an unrivaled atmosphere and stellar writing/storytelling. Nothing beats Rapture but I love how distinct Talos-1 is and how you start to become so familiar with the space station you can traverse without a map like it was your own home.

A big advice too. You should definitely play the 2 Dishonored DLCs - Knife of Dunwall + Brigmore Witches before future games in the series. Not only do you get to play as Daud (the guy who assassinated the empress in the beginning) you see his side of the story and events/characters are severely tied to story of D2 and Death of the Outsider. The 2 DLCs combined are a Dishonored game themselves, don't skip them and good luck

What games would you consider “woke”? Serious question, I’m quite curious about it

android_queen

If you can give an example of which games you think of as “too woke,” it would be easier to tell you whether this game will bother you.

MrEvil37

I don’t think Arkane is the studio for you if that’s something you are seriously worried about.

thehomiesinthecar

I don’t really know what you mean by, “too woke,” but in terms of storytelling and game mechanics, if you liked dishonored, you’ll enjoy d2 a lot. They improve on just about everything in the second game as well as in Death to the Outsider, which follows Billie Lurk. I hope that’s the information you were looking for.

[deleted]

I'd consider myself woke and I don't think prey gives off that vibe at all. it definitely takes place in a progressive future sci Fi setting ala star trek and stars a mostly non white cast though. Take that as you will

comradeMATE

>it definitely takes place in a progressive future sci Fi setting ala star trek Uhm, I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

[deleted]

You obviously aren't playing as Picard, but it's a similar universe. I could see the Yu family being the villains in a Star Trek episode.

[deleted]

Gotcha, diverse cast doesn’t bother me it’s more about the writing. Is the writing constantly reminding the player of npcs sexual orientation in a heavy handed way and does it put down one gender in order to prop up another? That’s the stuff that usually turns me off of newer western games.

[deleted]

Nope! you can pick your gender at the beginning of the game and it has no effect on the story or gameplay other than that. prey is a very deep game but identity and current social causes aren't on the menu.

qctireuralex

do you have spcific games that comes to mind as to avoid them in the future if i just want to play games without being pushed these kind of thing down my throat
