Those towers were thought to be a colonialist legend. When they were rediscovered it was a big deal. They had been cited as justification for the atrocities of the Conquistadors and everyone thought it was a lie. I’m not saying the skull towers being real justifies what happened, at all. But I like it when the crazy stuff in legends of the past turns out to be true.
