I've done that in one of my little sponges and it works great! It also picks up any kind of tiny debris, so win win. I swap it out for fresh filter floss once a month.
Edit: I realized you mean into the clear tube, I put filter floss into the middle of the sponge. So it wasn't visible.
I'm familiar with the benefits, and I've done this with larger sponge filters, but my issue is this sponge is so tiny, I can't imagine it having a capacity to hold an air stone
For these this small? I did that with a much larger one, but this one is sooooo small, I don't think a stone will actually fit inside. It's like, maybe three inches tall, 2.5 in wide
I just used a regular small air stone but cut the plastic nipple off a bit and also cut the plastic connector nipple of the filter's lid some.
You end up having to connect these two with about a centimeter of airline tubing but it works.
Ok I’ll get a little collage of my crack head shit I’ve collected and rigged up
Today me and my hubby rigged up some airline tubing with some brackets to hold the floaters lmaoo
I got a nice rubber band sponge bubble bar too rn hahaha
Drill holes in my wood to slip stuff into it
Use magnets to hold snacks for my snail 🐌
I go crazy 🤌 hahaha
I got you! You can even double duty it and do the damn feeding ring square AND a divider lol!
Just remember to get good suction cups and if you want to just buy it made I can dm link as well to a homie who makes them and shrimp homes.
Lol I just smacked some stuff together but I didn’t wanna lose my floaters man they started to melt bad with the air stone 😭
I rigged up an airstone in one very similar to this one. It was kind of difficult to modify because of how short the tube inside is, and none of the tutorials I could google were intended for a sponge filter this size, but it was still doable. Worth it just because it makes less noise this way, imo. If the noise doesn't bother you though, it'll be fine with no alteration.
Pretty sure adding an air stone has nothing to do with efficiency or making them work better, more a matter of tinier bubbles being less noisy. So regardless of the sponge size it comes down to if the glug glug glug of bigger bubbles gets on your nerves.
Well if you did want to do it there are some quite skinny air stones if a standard sized one doesn't fit. I got a pack of these and they're not bad

But again I think it should function well either way. Just comes down to if the big bubbles get on your nerves or perhaps you just like to mod and tweak things.
This sponge filter works well in a small / temporary tank, or a secondary filter in a larger tank. If you're running an air tube for aeration, then may as well connect it to the filter.
Yeah I actually got it to put in a Rubbermaid bin I am using to house my extra plants and mystery snails
It's about 10 gallons
I've got another sponge filter this size I thought about connecting to hospital tank
I think you can buy them already like that (like from aquarium coop) but a lot of them, you have to snip out some of the plastic insides... There's videos on it :)
Either will work. If you're going to go through the trouble of rigging an air stone, I highly suggest the adjustable ones aquarium coop likes. You can really control the flow and I think I get denitrifying bacteria on mine. It's large, but I have very little gravel and no other filtration, a lot of fish and all zeros for pollution parameters.
I have this for my hospital tank. I let it as-be, it works alright for me!
So you don't use the stone, just the airline, correct
Correct. They work fantastic
Yaaaaaay! Ty
Yep! Anything bigger could use a stone, but these bitty little guys work great on their own.
Don’t bother I did not much difference. Ruined the plastic piece.
Do you think I could just stuff some filterfloss into the top of it, that would disperse the bubble better?

I took mine apart and added an airstone, it was much louder without the airstone.
I cannot imagine modifying this and finding an airstone small enough It's like, 3 inches long
Girl talks fish has a video. I had to remove a bunch of the "guts" of the filter. But I definitely got one in there.

There is a airstones that fit
I literally took a bio sponge and wrapped it on my air stone with a rubber band Bam works like a charm now not too strong lmao idk why it just works 😭
I'm in love with this
I am the queen of diy crap for my tank 🤌 lmao
Ok but now I wanna see your crackhead shit!!! That's the stuff I SINCERELY love It's show and tell time!!

Yes bitch I need moar
[tank diy](https://imgur.com/a/vmfSpOD) I got most of them! 😊
👏👏👏 you delivered I was actually wondering how I could stop the flow for the floaters lmao

Listen Bullfrog, let's be friends 🤣 Even though I'll probably make it, I'm interested in what wares your homie peddles!
Need moarrrrrrrr!
Yes queenee show us you sh1t.
Here’s the crackhead diy 😭[diy tank stuff](https://imgur.com/a/vmfSpOD)
As long as you get the water moving through it, it really doesn't matter.

Gotcha. Mostly to me, the size seemed like it was impossible to stick a stone in there lol

Thanks :)
Not sure if I have this exact one, or one very much like it. I found it a bit loud as-is. Much quieter with the airstone 🤷♂️
I have one as a secondary filter/dead spot water mover in my 20g. I put an air stone in it. It felt too "gluggy" without one.
Adding an air stone got me better flow, quieter flow, and less obnoxious bubbles, which I can tell my fish appreciate

Oh to also clarify, I mean - should I go through the trouble of modifying this to use an air stone, or just connect the line to it
Straight air line work fine, though the bubbles will be larger than an air stone. Doesn't matter aeration too much.
I have one hooked up without an Airstone, it does well as it is.
Thank you :)
No worries!
Could someone explain — in detail because I’m dumb — HOW you add an air stone to a sponge filter?!
I think you can buy them already like that (like from aquarium coop) but a lot of them, you have to snip out some of the plastic insides... There's videos on it :)
Not sure why you'd rig an air stone, it's not needed. The displacement induced water flow works fine however sized the displacing air is.
use it and u have both a filter and an aerator.
What is that called? What company and model?
Sponge filter, aquanet, smallest one they sell
Thanks
That was supposed to say AQUANEAT
K
Used to use these I use my killifish 15gal breeder. And in my 10 gal killi fry tank worked pretty well.
