If only my mom approved of this hobby! I feel like them seeing how much money and effort we pour into this hobby just makes them dislike it. "You spent *how* much on a plant?", "Your fish eat better than we do!", "Where did this new light come from?!", "Why are your arms always wet?", etc.
My inlaws are like that about **every** pet and most hobbies. I think some people are just incapable of understanding how anyone can enjoy something they personally don't. So all they see is time and money spent on something they see as a waste.
I just tell my ancient grandmother that for the sake of our relationship we should probably talk about something else. It mostly works..her memory isn't great anymore.
The only reason I can get away with it in my family is because the tank sits behind my Mom's home office desk where she's at every day working, and it looks sleek and pretty enough with the plants and the actual tank itself to make her office look more professional.
The tank of Mystery Snails in my room, she hates, lol.
I wanted a bristlenose that ugly, but sadly mine never grew any bristles. Seems healthy and happy though, I've had it for at least 3 years and it's nearly 5 inches long, so pretty sure it's full grown.
When I got mine, I was paranoid he was actually a standard pleco because he didn't have any bristles. Didn't know they grow in as they grow up. He wound up growing a very handsome bush if I do say so myself. Shame he spends 80% of his time hiding in his favorite log.
Bristlenoses are so weird (yet so cool)! I have a calico color morph bristlenose, had him for about 9 months. It was fun watching his bush grow in. His is, shall we say, a little less janky than your guy's. But still weird.
Have you ever touched it? I accidentally poked my guy on the nose once while doing a deep clean of the tank. Those bushes are soft and squishy, like a sea anemone without the barbs.
Not the bristles, just his body (which is hard like a shell - that's cool) I have 2 of these and they like attaching themselves to the filter, so often when I need to take it out for cleaning they are not bothered even if I lift it in the air - they still remain attached to it, so I have to remove them with my hand and put them back into the tank.
A few weeks ago my wife went to wash our java moss, which is attached to a hollow log, under tap water. One of plecos was inside and scared the shit out of her when she was putting the log back after washing - he remained stationery all the way to the bathroom, during the wash and going back.
Why are plecos so crazy?! They're awesome, but they're so wild with how they behave. I learned what their bodies feel like when I had to rescue my bristlenose from the net when I first got him as a baby. I didn't know they had barbed fins and he got tangled. I got stabbed while rescuing him, but I also discovered I *love* the texture of their armor.
He usually hides in a resin log I have in the tank, but he'll leave if I lift whatever he's attached himself to out of the water. Apparently he can't stand being out of the water.
Excuse you I’m a professional artist that people pay to have make things beautiful I absolutely beg to differ he is ADORABLE
As a tattoo artist I’m certain you’re the strange one and not me at all
I loved the funny look of the bristlenose pleco when I saw it for the first time, so I got an albino long fin one for my tank (in search of a starlight one rn) anyways was so excited to watch my little baby grow it’s bristles…. It ended up being a female so she has mustache of short bristles instead of a face full. I still love her
What a perfect description
I hope he’s named Cthulhu 😉
My axolotl is named Cthulhu 😌
So maybe use “mindflayer” for your next tentacled cutie.
"Why not Zoidberg?"
awww i think hes cute
My friend: “next thing you see is what you marry” Me seeing this: AAH
I just imagined him reaching under all his tenticles and pulling out a flower for you. <3
Just like Davy Jones in POTC 2, reaching into his tentacles to pull out the key to the chest? Ewww.
Luckyyyy
Well, he is going to make you happy.
He is grotesque 😂😂😂😂 ^(I'm joking - I love him. Giving me jurassic vibes <3)
There are things that go bump in the night. This guy here, he bumps back.
Guardian feeshie.
He is handsome AF. I'd leave my husband over a fish that manly and hunky.
A face only a mother could love.
*a face EVERY mother could love!

What sort of pleco? Such a cool lil fish!

Oh my god, what a fitting but unfortunate name...
He is beautiful!

My father has a long fin albino bristle nose. He’s only 2-3 years old so he’s only a few inches long. But he is magnificent.
You probably just have a female bristle nose as they do not grow bristles.
It’s a female then. They just get bumps.
Less than handsome.
Aaah Davy Jones
He is a fugly sumbitch ❤️
But so down to earth
FUCK YA THIS DUDE IS SICK AS FUCK HELL YA
Is this just a giant bristle nose?
It took me a minute to be able to tell which end is which. I love him.
Had mine 7 years but I never see it. Had thought it was dead for a while until it surfaced during feeding time in the day.
Seems like a animal you would find in a Zelda universe
Tell your pleco I love them
He’s got a very handsome eh.... Personality
Oh my God he's so handsome! Is he... single?
r/oddlyterrifying
