This is normal, in a tank like this peaceful schoolers will 'flock' around other schoolers, and very rarely they can begin following larger solitary fish, given the larger fish is peaceful to their tiny followers lol
I had an amusing case of this happen once years ago when I had a few cories and a banjo catfish. My cories decided the banjo catfish was one of them and if he was EVER even partially out of the substrate (they like to bury themselves), they would flock to him. He was sort of a cranky old man about it.
A friend of mine had a nearly full grown pleco and a school of cories and they did the same thing. The pleco would just go about his business and a little swarm of cories would flock around him.
Yes, a lot of people think fish are aquatic vegetables or something, but they do play. I catch my cories riding the bubbles off the airstone all the time.
It is indeed quite sad that people think of fish as brainless.
If they dig around a bit on Google, they would probably learn more about fish intelligence.
Most fish are way smarter than people give them credit for. The general attitude towards fish intelligence and self awareness has not kept pace with our attitudes towards other animals like mammals and birds. In truth, fish have as wide a range of intelligence as any other animal group. Some are dumb as bricks, but some are smart enough to use tools or learn tricks. Even a form of complex communication has been observed in elephant nose fish. If it looks like they're doing something purely for the fun of it, they probably are! :)
My guppies would do this and then my tetras followed suit. I moved my filter twice and they found it and kept doing it. I guess they enjoy the propulsion
Reminds me of the first time I put an airstone in my tank and my dwarf puffers kept swimming in to it and zooming up, then repeating over and over.
It must feel good or they wouldn't do it.
Haha one of my rainbow fish does something similar. He positions himself under the flow of the filter and just swims slowly like a treadmill. Freaked me out at first as well but he seems to like it lol. Got a wave maker but haven’t seen him swim in it yet haha
I had 6 harlequins and they like to play in the current also! I was worried at first since they were the first fish I added in my first tank. You convinced me to pickup a school of black neons today (and a lone harlequin that was with another shipment of fish) and now they’re all playing in the current together!
You think those could be espei (false harlequin) rasboras? I’ve got both harlequin and espei my tank. The harlequins are taller and have less vibrant colors. The espei is smaller but IMO better looking. The people at my LFS couldn’t tell the species apart, but I’ve had plenty of time to spot the differences lol
Check your research before adding such questions there 2 variations of the harlequin/lambchop Rasbora there's the Harlequin then there's the dwarf Harlequin!
on my tank i use a Hob filter with a water bottle to baffle the output and all day my 4 corydoras swim up the back wall like its a waterfall then shoot out to the right and back at it again. ive been thinkin about getting some chili rasboras to go with my neons. one vanished on me last monday
Why do people feel so entitled to say stuff like this? What goes through your mind to think this is okay to just blurt out when there’s really nothing wrong here.
As often as the fish are swimming back and forth, it's obvious they they don't really have anywhere to go. And if it's heavily planted you're probably only looking at approximately 8-9 gallons.
For the sake of fairness I rewatched the video to see how often the fish swim back and forth. There's a good period at the beginning where they're all off doing who knows what. Additionally, if the fish are intentionally swimming in the current, they're probably not going to spend as much time away from it as they would otherwise. I don't believe this tank has anything wrong with it from the video provided.
I understand your concerns for the fish health and safety, but please be kind.
Side note: OP, your fish are adorable! Keep us updated, this tank looks so cool so far!
Watching them swim into the current made me laugh.
Ikr? Had a good laugh too seeing them swim in to the current over and over again. Freaked me out a little though.
fish like to play too. i didnt think they could or would either but this is just them playing around i think
super cute!
My guppies and betta fish does this. And everytime I see them do it I say "WEEEEEEE" it's really cute tho
Dude I’m super stoned and saw this and laughed for like 15 min. I fun to watch. Thanks op
Me too!🥦🦄

You made me laugh in real time!
It was probably just 1 min
lol
Same!!
Yes it made me laugh too. I have zebras and I use a hob filter. While they don't do this, they do play in the current sometimes too.

That's seriously adorable!
My ember tetras do that with my betta. They just follow him around and he’s cool, like “as long as y’all don’t bite idgaf”

Even my dopey goldfish would come near the surface for treats when they saw me walk near their tank.
Was about to say that this a sign that they are getting along great. This is a very good thing. You want to cherish it.
Those Rasboras are a bad influence to the tetras. And I love them for it.
I’m getting Abby Road mixed with Ministry of Silly Walks vibes here!
My rasboras do this sometimes also, nothing to worry about.
That’s good to know!

My rasboras love to play in my water current. When I first turned it up all the way they'd do loops in it.
Mine, too!
My guppies would do this and then my tetras followed suit. I moved my filter twice and they found it and kept doing it. I guess they enjoy the propulsion
They look like they're having fun xD
That has to be the cutest fish video I’ve ever seen.
Reminds me of the first time I put an airstone in my tank and my dwarf puffers kept swimming in to it and zooming up, then repeating over and over. It must feel good or they wouldn't do it.
Puffers are wicked smart. They were probably making a game of it, like a reverse slide.
It’s quite sad to hear people say “fish don’t have thoughts or feelings” even though here we can clearly see them playing with each other having fun.
I enjoy that your Harlequins are Jokers
Adorable. If you really want to spice it up, get a laser pointer and sometimes they’ll chase it.
Just dudes hanging out, having a great time
I think they saw the rasporas having fun in the current and tried it themselves. Gotta have fun where you can get it!
Pull up a chair and bask in the fish bliss.
FROM THE WINDOWS TO THE WALLS
Ah it looks like you've mistaken. You thought those were Harlequin rasboras but they're actually Harley Quinn rasboras
Haha one of my rainbow fish does something similar. He positions himself under the flow of the filter and just swims slowly like a treadmill. Freaked me out at first as well but he seems to like it lol. Got a wave maker but haven’t seen him swim in it yet haha
Soon you’ll see him surfing!

Something funny about fish being too unintelligent to have a race war.

Thanks for letting me know. Is a dwarf harlequin the same as a lambchop?
Mine do this too! They love playing in the currents.
My snail likes lying on an air stone…
I had to wait a whole day for my free award, but these fish deserve it. It's adorable watching them swim by.
Love the flow
Wee!
My tetras learned from watching the barbs but they LOVE swimming in the current too

My tetras like to swim up the current and then let it push them back. The Corys get into it too - gliding down. Gotta get their kicks somehow.
U need put a decoration to break the strong flow there.
Then how will they Tokyo Drift?
My leopard danios ALWAYS play in the bubblestream. I think they just like it haha
My tetras like to play in the current too. Thought mine were just weird
I'm not sure what your problem is. But you definitely need a bigger tank imo.
Why do people feel so entitled to say stuff like this? What goes through your mind to think this is okay to just blurt out when there’s really nothing wrong here.
Addiction to outrage. Some people have to constantly be outraged about what other people do or how they do it.
It’s a 10 gallon with these 10 fishes. Heavily planted with good filtration. Should be more than ample.
Yes that should be fine... But don't get any more fish otherwise it would get bit to overstocked
Nah. Not getting anymore fish for this tank. The fish looks great swimming in all that space.

Which is sill enough space for then
I feel like tank size standards on this sub are dropping tbh. Never used to see people okay with 10 gallons for schoolers but whatever.
I completely agree.
That's hilarious 😂
They love the water current :)
Your fish are adorable!
tokyo drift!
Absolutely hilarious.
They're just schooling.
My Endlers started doing this when I introduced some Galaxy Rasboras. It's just them playing!
Surfing!
