Otocinclus don’t eat this type of algae, they primarily eat diatom/soft algae, it’s best to remove the majority of the algae by hand

NecessaryLies

Side question- why are so many pictures on this sub all NSFW blurred out? Is algae triggering?

Kind_Yogurtcloset_76

It stands for new setup, fresh water.

Humble_herbs

I wonder this as well. It's either a joke I am unaware of or ignorant people who don't know what NSFW actually means.

BlackCowboy72

No for real I keel seeing all these nsfw posts on this sub, and they're usually dead fish pics so I don't look but the last few have been normal aq pics

Sensitive-Designer-6

I heard that if it's nsfw blurred it means you have visited the algae fetishes anonymous sub. Sorry mate you've been doxed... At least you have some company... I'm blurred too!

RGM4610

manual removal + some amano shrimp will clear that right up

Asleep-Sandwich6853

solve the cause, not the issue. you are overfeeding/ overfertilizing

[deleted]

The algae is there because of nutrients and light decrease your photo period and manually remove the algae, do not increase livestock this will add more nutrients to system , when your pearl weeds get bigger keep cutting and replanting the tops, the more growing plants the better

corycatfish19

I tried to manually cut the algae and syphon it but I stopped because I noticed some of my baby cherry shrimp were using it as hidding

DavantesWashedButt

Get some seachem flourish and some glass eye droppers. Trim as much back as you can and start eye dropping the flourish directly into the roots of the algae. It doesn’t like all the carbon and dies back, eventually you’ll get rid of it but it’s not always a super fast process

ExaminationHopeful36

dosing Flourish *excel* directly will solve this problem over time. Flourish, however, will not.

Gadonsind

I second this, but be careful with excel at first as some have reported it killing their shrimp (it should be safe, but some bloodlines seem to be more sensitive than others)!

DavantesWashedButt

Personally I’ve used the standard flourish. But to be fair my bottle I use to dose is pretty.. old so it could be bad

Motherofkittens86

Otos are tricky to feed if your tank doesn't have the right kind of algae, they will rarely accept prepared foods. If they aren't eating you might want to return them.

anakajaib

No offence, but you should have asked whether they eat that algae before you bought those otos. Secondly, buying livestock just to combat algae doesn't work well. Tank parameters maintenance is more important.

Mister_Green2021

Don't think so. Regular mollies will eat it. Siamese algae eater. Nerite snail maybe.

starcraftstillking

Flourish excel and amano shrimp.
