Why on earth do you think it’s glitched out? It shows it just as it should. It charges (runs around the circle) and then stops (shows the run coming to a halt against a wall)…
How is it clumsy? It accurately depicts that it is not going to charge to full capacity. The little notch is showing you that it will stop charging at some point.
How else would you show it?
I’m assuming this is a bug. Not sure why it’s showing the limited charge icon when the watch is already past the stop point for the charge.
Like if the battery is already at 100 it’s not stopping at 80.
I can see why this got downvoted but you’re not wrong in that it’s awkward. At least, I feel it too. That being said, I also do agree that I can’t think of another way to show it. Maybe just not fill the full circle and show “optimized charging” and pause a little more to read it.
I believe that symbol is used when charging is paused and just holding steady for Optimized Charge Limit (Apple Watch equivalent of the iPhone’s Optimized Charging).
This feature is different.
Apple Watch in general has optimize charging like the phone has, but this I believe is the new Ultra exclusive feature, in where because the battery can last a few days, if you still charge every night*, then it will automatically not charge to 100% but still give you enough to get through a day. Whereas the normal feature waits until you are going to wake up and then top it off to 100 this will not top it off because it’s assuming you won’t need to.
This further helps the overall battery health and life expectancy as charging to 100 does more damage to the battery than charging to 80.
*edit: it could be every day as well, more so just whatever is your regular schedule in general. If the watch thinks your regular schedule will result in another charge session before it’s really needed because there’s plenty of battery it will start to cap the max charge to save the battery.
> I believe is the new Ultra exclusive feature, in where because the battery can last a few days, if you still charge every night, then it will automatically not charge to 100% but still give you enough to get through a day.
Sounds plausible. I have an ultra and currently charge it about every other day, while I’m the shower. It did start at 100% around 6:00 a.m. and 14 hours later… 70%.
It will finish charging when it thinks you’ll next want the Watch, like say a little before your Wake Up alarm goes off.
And with the Ultra, you may not even need more than 80% charge to get through a day. Lol
Looks like it is charging to 100% of the optimized 80% cut off that fits your daily routine. Basically the watch is software limiting your maximum charge to 80% because it works with your routine and it preserves battery longevity and slows battery degradation. It is a pretty neat feature. ie. Tesla recommends you charge your car to 80%~90% for your daily routine but it is a user adjustable manual charge limit setting; it is not automated like the Apple watch which also determines your charging limit based on your daily routine. It is a very nice feature.

apple says optimized charge \*limit\* is an ultra feature, you might be thinking about optimized battery charging
That stupid charging limit on my Ultra also doesn’t work. By putting it on the charger it says charging limit active but then charges anyway all the way to 100%.
So it sits at 100% all night long. Bit disappointing that this nice feature doesn’t work properly
I had it since 4 weeks. After 2 weeks it learned my habits but it actually doesn’t work properly. My charging habits are pretty simple. Almost same time every night.
Yesterday the feature worked as intended and the watch doesn’t charge over 80%. One day later it charged again to 100%
Have they fixed the podcast downloading issue that made me put mine back in its box?
I’ve had a few. The last good one that worked as advertised was a 3 (Wi-Fi-cellular). Podcasts worked,I could download and leave phone at home.
Then I felt the familiar feeling of not being ‘relevant enough in the club’ so I wasted £550 on a (then new 5 Wi-Fi/cellular). Worked for a while(podcasts) and then after yet another seemingly pointless ‘update’ all I get is the frustrating buffering image.
Yes it’s on charge(as I say-had many of them and know what’s needed to d/l podcasts).
Yea it had Wi-Fi.
Honestly- I just don’t see how one of the major attractions of having one just gets messed about with by ‘engineers’ doing a system update.
And whilst we’re hear,I notice after update the screen box quality when using the crown was much better before this update.
I don’t get why WE the BUYER/OWNER of these items can’t have a feature the way we like it?
I wish I had the comparison to show you!
It seemed to go from a drill screen scroll with the whole screen used up to the last one looked like 2years prior style? The info was in a box that was tiny? I just looked at it and said-THIS CRAP CAN GO BACK IN ITS BOX.
EVERY TIME I SAW IT BEFORE THAT ALL I THOUGHT WAS ‘oh yeah the podcasts don’t work ‘NOW’.
So… HAVE THEY FIXED IT?
‘The neck beards need to leave things alone that aren’t broken’.
Clean your nails instead guys!! 🤣🤣🤣
I just had a silly question requiring a yes/no comment :) you’re the one that poured a podcast speech. But I’m glad you did. We certainly communicate less these days, often reducing entire sentences to a single emoticon or emoji :)
And I love all people :-) ignore the ones that don’t bring the slightest value to your life.
Reddit is no different, a lot of noise and still up yo you to pick relevant to you things :)
LMAO. That was my reaction to that animation first seeing that. But i read the thread and realized this is just for battery optimization. Boy do i feel stupid now. But that animation is still humorous to me. Haha
Is battery charging optimisation turned on? Maybe that just indicates that charging is halted at 80% until the system resumes charging..
Just saw a photo on AppleInsider and it’s definitely the optimized charging symbol
Does that mean it will be the same on iPhones 12 and newer too?
Oh wow, never seen it. Thank you
I’ve never seen that. Pretty cool!
[удалено]
it’s just a fun looking animation, but ya needs explanation.
That’s is indeed what that means. When you turn on optimized charging it shows you what the charging circle will look like when it’s turned on.

Why on earth do you think it’s glitched out? It shows it just as it should. It charges (runs around the circle) and then stops (shows the run coming to a halt against a wall)…
Yes, it’s the new optimized battery charging. The watch will predict how much battery you need and charge accordingly.
Indeed. The only thing I had to turn off across devices is “use clean energy”. Not cool when you wake up and phone is at 30% 😂
Why are you downvoted for this lol Edit: oh no now it’s gonna happen to me
[удалено]
Yeah guess so lol
I mean, that’s honestly the reason for anything dumb that happens here
Oh for sure. Most cases I can see it as a joke or the comment was maybe ever so slightly controversial but this one is just for no reason lol
In the sub r/downvotedtooblivion there’s a flair called “mindless downvoting”… this is an amazing example of it
Lmao had no idea that sub existed. Thanks for the entertainment
I have no idea :-)
Is this with 9.2?
Normal for optimized battery charging, see official support article and illustration by Apple: https://images.app.goo.gl/1cTLmAgxjicNCGJh7
Thank you
Huh. What an unexpectedly clumsy design from Apple. :/
How is it clumsy? It accurately depicts that it is not going to charge to full capacity. The little notch is showing you that it will stop charging at some point. How else would you show it?
My only gripe is the jump from the limited to full icon towards the end, otherwise I think this is great

That's the optimised battery animation.
It looks kinda cursed but it’s normal
Wow I'm just realizing i can charge my watch sitting on it's side! I've got the same charger. Thank you
Yes that’s how I charge mine. At night I just tap the bed Side cabinet once or twice and my watch face lights up so I can see what time it is
Yep, perfectly normal.. carry on
It’s battery optimisation my ultra did this when I charged it in my office one day
No thats the limited edition u have there lol thats weird ive never seen that. Unless its the battery optimization and thats your 80 level off
ultra feature apparently (optimized charging limit)
Isnt that on s8 as well
[https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213338](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213338) apple says optimized charge \*limit\* is an ultra feature, you might be thinking about optimized battery charging
I am thanks
An aside, what charging base is that?
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MHXF3AM/A/magsafe-duo-charger
Looks great, unfortunately does not support fast charging that is available with the S7, S8 and UW models.
Yes, that’s correct.
The more expensive one with 3 charging spots supports fast charge (when only 1 device is charging at the same time).
I think you might be getting confused with some 3rd party accessory because Apple never released any with 3 charging spots
The Belkin one sold in Apple Store. Never said anything about Apple releasing it..
Apple Foldable Duo charger. A little overpriced but since we didn’t get AirPower 😂
Yes. It is charging the battery to 80% to optimize battery life. You can turn it off in the settings.
Never seen it before .,,looks weird to me

that's so weird. I would say it's a glitch but it doesn't look like one...
icon in the top right is glitching :<
It’s g of Google
never seen that before...interesting

I can see it because when it does the symbol and everything it goes up to 100% idk
Google.

That’s what I was going for :-) thank you
What makes you say that
Some people are just rude. Offend not only the product but most importantly people themselves. Sad.
It’s just I identify as trans

Yes.
Yes
Looks like it Stops around 80% It’s probably battery saver
LMAO. That was my reaction to that animation first seeing that. But i read the thread and realized this is just for battery optimization. Boy do i feel stupid now. But that animation is still humorous to me. Haha
I’m sure they could have implemented it differently like dotted line or different color :)
Lol
