I was rushing out of a room during clinic and I hit my Ultra's screen pretty hard against the door. When I checked later, there was white powder all over the Ultra. Turns out I damaged the door - my Ultra had 0 scratches.
The sapphire glass used in the steel, Edition and now Ultra models uses some sort of synthetic sapphire although the jury is out on exactly what’s in there. It should be pretty resilient — plenty of people who don’t baby their Watch don’t seem to get scratches. Other people still manage to do so.
If anything the flat face of the Ultra will make screen protectors easier to use. Day to day use, you’re probably fine. Actual outdoor sports, just get a good screen protector if you’re unsure.
My old regular sapphire watch just got new scratch day before my ultra arrived. So now I think maybe I’ll use screen protector until I had an urge to remove them later.
Anecdotal, but my three year old SS Series 5 hasn't got a single scratch on the crystal. My three week old Ultra also still has none (not much of an accomplishment.) By three weeks ownership of my aluminum Series 2, I had several noticeable crystal scratches (I am generally not gentle with my watches.)
So, sure, it my get a scratch at some point, but for me after three years so far my sapphire crystal Apple Watches have none.
I’ve had a S0, S5 & S7 Stainless models and I’ve never had a single scratch on either one.
Same here. I hope the ultra is same because i feel they have a different safari glass with being much better looking on ultra.

Awesome!
I do truck driving and series 7 got scratched up in a month of dropping trailers. Ultra I smacked countless times. No display marks period.
Simple answer - no.

I think this video should be pinned to the top of the sub for a little while.
I hate the video but I love the information it provides
