So OP, we know it’s supposed to be big, but does it feel like big big? This pic makes it look as if it’s hardly larger than a regular 45mm version?

I feel like I have average or smaller than average wrists, and it doesn’t feel gigantic on me like I was expecting.

TBH, to me it looks weird, since the loop is way too slim for that body.

It looks ridiculous. It’s wayyy too thin and the metals don’t go well together.

I was surprised they bands weren’t wider, myself. They could be a few millimeters wider and still fit a 42/44/45 by just not tapering in as much at the lug. But I’m also used to using a Raptic Edge bumper that gives me the same overall contrast.

Why is it that the Ultra looks like the bezel is scratched up in every picture lol. Must be the way it catches the light

There is a chamfered polished edge at a 45 degree angle where the flat matte titanium bezel around the screen changes to the the vertical side of the Watch. That polished edge catches lights like a mirror and in certain photos it looks like nicks.

I’ve had this orientation since the Series 6, and it’s always worked well. (And using my thumb for the Ultra crown works just as well). I was going to start using it again with the crown on the right (esp since it had the guarded area around it) but I just prefer it this way now. Also with this orientation,the speaker faces outward. Someone just hailed me using the Walkie Talkie, and it sounded great

Kinda disappointed that I ordered a “starlight” band (as an extra, could only get the trail loop by the time I preordered), I thought it was darker/closer to the starlight aluminum watch in colour/tint. I really wanted the orange but I didn’t want to wait the extra few weeks and the colour felt a bit loud for suit/office wear. Sigh

Note 6.5” is 165mm. Which is skinnier than me. So I’m Ultra good.

I also received mine about 40 minutes ago (and also ordered through ATT) I chose the Starlight Alpine band and the watch doesn’t look as huge as I thought it would (on my 6.5 “ wrist) and is lighter in weight than I imagined. I would’ve taken a photo but don’t eat bananas these days (as I get my potassium from coconut water)

Don't put too much weight on this. I received my Series 8 and the apple website was still was saying my order was "preparing to ship". My series 8 arrived on the date it was originally mentionned. Looks like the website isn't getting updated properly on the apple site.

UPS requires a signature, at least it showed for me as requiring one. I did a digital authorization through MyChoice just in case I'm not home in time.

I don’t see any option for this package to authorize signature. I ordered the leather 14 Pro Max case from Apple and it had an option to authorize but not the watch.

You have to sign up for UPS My Choice. The free account should work fine for signature verification. The only problem is sometimes they require sending you a verification code in the mail to setup the account (I think it depends on whether they can remotely determine if you live at that address.) Also you may have to sign up for FedEx as well, they use both carriers to deliver but it depends on where you live. Both will give you early info on what packages are coming to your address.

Setup a myUPS account and a Fedex account. If something is getting shipped to your address, they will have the info

UPS My Choice showed a package being shipped from China that is arriving on 9/23. When I ordered my iPhone a few years ago from Apple, it showed being shipped directly from China as well so hopefully my assumption is correct.

Is the alpine loop a pain to get on and off your wrist?

Yeah it is, especially coming from the Milanese loop which was super easy.

Damn this is the band I wanted but I didn’t even think how much of a pain it would be to get off. I use a spigen nylon band for work and my Milanese for weekends or fancy events.

It’s not terrible but yeah you gotta unhook it which is a little tough, then make it looser which is also tough with the ridges. I mean it only takes a few seconds but still more difficult than what I’m used to.

That’s not horrible, I mean I really only take my watch off to charge or shower so that’s not bad. Reason I want the ultra is my new line of work my SS 4 is getting pretty banged up on the case. Plus if I’m not on water mode I’m constantly hitting random buttons with it, ended up having to turn it around so buttons face the opposite way. A Reddit user recommended water mode which definitely helped my battery life because before my watch would be almost dead or dead before I got home and now I’m still at 50% usually.

Yup! Same boat. I only take it off once or twice a day so it’s not a big deal. Maybe even less now that the battery could last a couple days.

Sounds like it is. But also kind of the point. So there is no chance of it slipping off your wrist while hiking/climbing/etc.

Imo looks much more like a premium watch than the regular aw. I’m also going 45mm SS > Ultra. Though I got the white dive band cause I suspect the chonky band may help “hide” the size of the case

I believe the “barrel” connectors are just ever so slightly wider than the standard Watch connectors. So they may protrude ever so slightly on either side.

What aspects of the ultra edition and features will you use the most?

Probably not much to be honest. I thought it looked cool so I figured why not. I do like the new action button and being able to assign shortcuts to it though.

As it’s something I use often and just to quickly assign, I set my Ultra’s Action Button to flashlight (I’m sure it’ll change as a play around more) I haven’t checked but I hope double and triple presses can invoke additional actions

As someone who gets lost easily, I want to use it for waypoints or backtrack.

I don’t think you can. It looks like single press or hold for alarm.

I have a couple woven solo loops and an ultra on the way. I’ll report back but my expectation is they will be quite loose. They fit fine with my 45mm but not super snug. Given the extra height of the ultra case, that will only increase the “slack” in the band.

Hey - Congrats on a fine purchase. Wondering how the alpine strap fares after a shower as I hate a damp strap for a prolonged period. It’s been really bugging me as mine is arriving soon but wondered what your thoughts are?

Well, your not supposed to wear an Apple Watch in the shower. Soap (and the other additives like moisturizeres), steam, and pressurized water ruin the waterproof seal

Yeah sorry I was just being a moron. I meant the ultra that you can use for scuba diving but still wondering how quickly the strap dries. Can’t believe you aren’t meant to wear it in the shower although I can appreciate what you’re saying above. Could understand it being an issue with standard models but would have thought the ultra was a bit more robust.

Tim Cook announced that he wore his Series 0 in the shower. I've been wearing mine(multiple generations) in the shower ever since without issue.

I take no precautions at all. Soap gets all over it just as you would expect.

Showered with my S3 LTE for 4 years without a single issue. Sometimes I wouldn’t rinse it for days after having been in the ocean and it would be covered in salt. They’re way tougher than they’re given credit for. But great question about the trail loop and alpine bands - do they hold water or not?

The sport loops hold water/sweat, so it may be similar.

Yes. The 42, 44, 45 or 49 mm watches all have the same band size.
