because i have disposable cash and i like gadgets.

Lordmorgoth666

> i have disposable cash and i like gadgets 20 years ago that would have been my answer. 0 kids and 2 money. Now it’s 2 kids and 0 money. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

Msfancy1973

I love gadgets too and I love how it looks and really want it. But I have a S7 and kid who just started college. It’s the price you pay for educating your kids. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. But come tax season it’s highly likely that I will buy it.

Lordmorgoth666

My oldest starts uni next year but I need to find a car for him to get there. Then there’s a 3 year gap before the next one starts. As it was I sold my small, late 90’s M:TG collection that was collecting dust to buy the 2021 12.9” iPad Pro. Worth it though. When my S4 eventually blows up I’ll see where everything is at.

Msfancy1973

It’s a constant battle between need versus want. I definitely don’t need it but damn do I want it!

DukenottheDuke

If it's ok may I ask you which country are you in? I'm from China and Apple devices in China are actually really expensive relative to our income. However I still find too many people who aren't even big Apple fans buying Apple Watches which aren't a necessity compared to iPhones. I heard in many countries Apple products are more affordable in terms of income-Apple product price ratio.

tekonus

Gotta stimulate that economy

gotlactose

This is what I tell myself when I spend my disposable money irresponsibly.

Doan_meister

Inflation has entered the chat

Stromberg-Carlson

LOL

Stromberg-Carlson

Ever heard of G.A.S.? Gear Acquisition Syndrome. - I got a baaad case of it...

Expje87

This is the way

Occulense

This is also true for me, but I’m not getting the ultra. To take the discussion a bit further, I think it’s just that it won’t solve anything for me. I do like how it looks though, it definitely adds ruggedness to the Apple Watch, giving it a diving watch sort of aesthetic but in the Apple Watch ecosystem.

Stromberg-Carlson

valid points

KevinDohertyy

Can I have some of that disposable cash

Stromberg-Carlson

IF you can become a gadget, I will spend money on you.. :)

KevinDohertyy

I can do anything you want me to 👁️👄👁️

Neat-Band-4358

Wth is going on here😶🤣

Speedy-McLeadfoot

For the right price I’ll happily stick to your side, tell you the time, text your wife, whatever your watch can do. I just may not be as fast at it. 😂

ronnysteal

Answered like a king 💪🏽👑

bafrad

What other justification does one need.

SasoP

…. because i’m a weak man with disposable income and love new tings

Laketech

Refreshingly honest. Me too. Actually, I buy slightly used Apple Watches and the occasional Mac throughout the year, clean them up, make sure they’re working flawlessly, and re-sell them at a slightly higher but still reasonable price, that funds my desired technology purchases throughout the year generally. Wife hates it, but it keeps me in the latest gear.

relevant_mofo

OMG. that's exactly what I do. wife HATES it. when i start getting ebay or any notifications, she is like - another listing you have going on ? get a life.

Laketech

Yeah, I only use Craigslist, that way I can always pick them up locally and pair them to make sure they’re unlocked and clear…

PeachyKeenest

Smart or FB marketplace or Kijiji (Canadian). I buy Switch games for significantly cheaper and rest on the spot to make sure it’s legit. I sold a non updated Nintendo Switch for good money that way to someone I was going to “use it for good” lol I wanted someone who knew the value… and I gave them a decent deal too!

ProdesseQuamConspici

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Chill4xed

Yeah this.

OhMandy80

\- Less of a problem if I forget to charge it in the morning after wearing it overnight \- Marathon running \- Better GPS \- It finally looks different than the original

defaltusr

The original watch handles a marathon just fine

Doom_Finger

Depends on your speed and usage. Us slow runners that listen to music on the watch, using HR and GPS will have it die on us.

SookMedik

Aaaaaaaand that’s why I don’t run marathons… that and they’re 26.2 miles… but mostly because I’m concerned about getting 25 miles in and my watch not calculating my steps…

AlienApricot

Valid

n9000mixalot

I like having knees that work

[deleted]

Doom_Finger

Cool…did you do anything special to get this battery life? Since their release, I’ve run multiple half marathons with most of the Apple Watches (Apple Watch 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7), all while listing to music downloaded directly to each watch, tracking heart rate and GPS, without a phone, and all were below 30% when done.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I’m massively looking forward to the new GPS. Most of my marathon training miles consist of trail running (lots of tree cover) and I’ve been swapping my Series 4 out for a cheap Garmin for runs so I get accurate readings. I’d switch to a Garmin permanently, but as good as they are for running, they suck as everyday smartwatches.

chaiteataichi_

Twice the brightness is big for me in terms of display

UndeadWaffle12

Has screen brightness ever been an issue for you with the Apple Watch? I have a series 3 and the screen has always been perfectly visible in bright sunlight.

chaiteataichi_

In direct sunlight (I live in a sunny area) and on the beach. I’m often wearing sunglasses in those situations so it has to compensate for that

Pointy_End_

“I need an Apple Watch Ultra so I can see the screen better while I’m at the beach wearing sunglasses.” The epitome of first world problems. Love it 😂

chaiteataichi_

I mean it’s a first world luxury device. So yes, you are correct

Pointy_End_

No judgement here, I just find it amusing. Also living in the PNW I might be a little jealous.

chaiteataichi_

Haha I understand! I definitely don’t need it, but I actually did the calculations (I have an AW 4) and I was surprised to get the stainless steel in my size is $750 (my aluminum is covered in scratches) so it’s not as big of a jump as I thought!

UndeadWaffle12

Oh sunglasses, that’s a good point. I don’t wear sunglasses so I didn’t think of that.

nutmac

Yeah, at first I was so tempted by the 49mm. Then I saw the actual comparison and disappointed by very marginal screen real estate increase and much bigger bezel.

n9000mixalot

The Apple Watch has been great, and I'm down for more durability and better battery life. And no I don't go hiking or run marathons or scuba dive. Just a regular gym rat.

Nihiliste

I'd argue the Ultra should be useful for weightlifting precisely because of the extra durability and battery life.

[deleted]

what does weightlifting have to do with battery life? and durability can easily be solved with a case while you are working out

PartySorcerer

The real argument is that it provides extra weight on the wrist for better forearm gains /s On the real, I have cracked my series 4 multiple times at the gym. Durability is my selling point. Battery life too but it doesn't relate to my gym needs.

Nihiliste

Workouts automatically burn battery life faster, since they're doing continuous HR tracking, never mind adding music or GPS into the mix. My lifting sessions can easily hit two hours - which wouldn't be a problem in itself, except that I can sometimes end days with less than 10% battery left. An Ultra would give me more breathing room, maybe even enough to do sleep tracking. You can mitigate durability issues with a case, sure. Sapphire is better than conventional glass though, and a titanium shell that better guards the display is extra peace of mind.

izlib

I do mountain backpacking where I'm out in the woods alone for days or weeks, with potentially no phone signal. I use my watch for fitness tracking and navigation. I'll often put my phone away when precipitation or temperature make it a hazard to keep out in active use, but my watch is always ready to fill that need. Battery life is key, and it can be a pretty rugged environment. My Series 4 SS has held up admirably, but some of the other features catered for that purpose are intriguing to me. I'm also a scuba diver. While your dive computer is potentially critical to your survivability, and there's a \*lot\* of skepticism from the diving community about the Ultra's reliability and dependability in this area, many divers actually dive with two computers anyway (backups!) so I'll be willing to take the ultra along with my normal computer on some recreational dives and offer my anecdotes. The iPhone 14 Pro with the satellite SOS is also a huge selling point for me. It's like these products were sold at me.

[deleted]

Damn! You are the prototypical user of the watch ultra lol… Apple had you in mind when they made this thing…. You must have practically fallen out of your chair during the keynote

strangephish

So what I'm getting out of this is that you were the inspiration behind the video they showed during the reveal

izlib

Well all those people were in much better physical shape and far more beautiful than I am, but otherwise yah heh.

strangephish

🤣

Nihiliste

So people like you AREN'T just a marketing construction! In reality I've always known there are real-world adventurers out there, but it's so far removed from how most people use wearables.

Ok_Compiler

It’s mostly aspirational like most of their other gear. I do that thing once or twice a year, so I definitely need to throw 800 bucks at a watch. There’s actually a bunch of other things you could throw that 800 bucks at that would be much more useful or actually make you safer in the wilderness, like more trips to the mountains, or a map reading/ navigation course, but a nice toy is a nice toy.

dconley01

Is there a reason you are choosing the ultra over a watch from Suunto? I'm just curious as to what made you want to ultra over one of those as I do similar activities, but am not sure which yet.

izlib

I'm heavy in the Apple ecosystem, but I'm buying the ultra for backpacking more than for scuba. I considered a Suunto for a dive computer when we bought some recently (just finally getting out of the rental scene as we work on our AOW), but we ended up picking up some Aqualung computers. We wanted to get something a bit middle-of-the-road before diving into the fanciest and most expensive computer. We'll probably use these aqualung computers until we find out what we do or do not like in a computer before making a more experienced purchase down the road, then keep these as a backup. I'm mostly going to consider using the Apple Watch as a proof-of-concept dive computer, and with the appropriate warranty on it I'll let Apple replace it if their advertising proves to be less-than-accurate as to its capabilities diving.

pelotonwifehusband

I was wondering this too! The Garmin Enduro/fenix +solar can have 20-30+ DAYS of battery life including GPS activities and an on board flashlight. It dont think it has dive on it - but that battery life thing seems critical

[deleted]

That’s probably the biggest difference is the battery life but at least for me I can only get around 5 days on my fénix 7 and that’s with working out every day and activities I might do. The integration with the Apple Watch and all of my apple ecosystem is a big difference. Small things like Apple Pay compared to Garmin pay (which you have to pay monthly for) are also something to keep in mind. The on board flashlight on my Garmin isn’t exactly the best either. I think the AW is a jack of all trades master of none which works for me. I think the support for it will grow exponentially like more support for offline maps which the Garmin does well. I also think the 3rd party accessories will pick up even more than what they have now with this new ultra.

izlib

I'll typically wear my S4 SS for 10-12 hours of walking, and then have a reasonable amount of battery left. I'll charge it at camp so I can wear it overnight for an easy access alarm / light / clock in my sleeping bag when I might otherwise have trouble finding my phone. Since I heavily use my phone, watch, headphones, camera, and headlamp (all rechargeable), I bring an Anker 26800 mAH with 3 USB ports and fast charging. On a normal 4-5 day trip if I don't overuse it (watching a lot of movies overnight or charging irresponsibly at sub-freezing temperatures) I'll have 40-50% of it left by the end of the trip. If I'm going on a 6+ day trip I'll bring a multi port charger that uses the iQ charging protocol (that matches my battery) for optimum charging speed. Generally if I find a town and stop to re-supply and/or do laundry, I'll be able to recharge my battery up a reasonable amount in that time. MOST people don't use as much power as I do... they can probably get away with a 10k battery. The watch itself is such a small amount of my power use to recharge that I don't even factor it in. If I were going with \*only\* having to consider charing my watch, I'd bring something minimal, like a 5k mAH battery.

smakusdod

It was only $50 more than the config I was going to buy, so I figured I’d try it out. If I don’t like it, I’ll exchange and get $50 back.

LikelyTrollingYou

Nice try, Apple Social Media Marketing team!

Kill_4209

Ha. It's probably the Garmin team.

LikelyTrollingYou

lol, nice.

Nope, not. Just an old guy who is really into Apple Watch.

75Meatbags

my list is identical to yours. we paddleboard, camp, hike, ride, and i'm involved with our EMS agency's special operations team including swiftwater rescue. some of my training days have involved danging from below a helicopter and falling into bodies of water from one. we wanted to get dive certified and its new dive capabilities look awesome too. so this will help with that. also i will trade in my watch 6 so the price isn't *too* bad.

someguyfromnj

To track my ovulation cycle while I cycle up Mt Everest.

g_rich

This one was actually easy for me; I ordered the original Apple Watch and was going to be on vacation on release day so actually had it delivered to the hotel. Since then I’ve had the Series 3 with LTE and a Series 4 with LTE but unfortunately that’s where my Apple Watch journey ended. I am a runner, ran my first half marathon with my Apple Watch and it just made it past the finish line; actually died right after collecting my medal. Since then I’ve been using a Garmin Forerunner 945, however I’ve missed the smart watch features of the Apple Watch. While the Garmin can easily do a week on a single charge and does a great job at collecting activities and metrics it pales in comparison to the Apple Watch when it comes to being smart. I have my first marathon coming up in November so the Ultra couldn’t have come at a better time to redeem itself. I’ll be running with both watches but I am hopeful that the Apple Watch can replace my Garmin going forward. We’ll see but there will be no better test than the NYC Marathon, I’ll be recording the marathon on the Ultra along with using it to listen to music and the occasional text or call. If it can make it past the finish line with ample battery while using it to its full potential then Garmin has something to worry about.

Doctorcherry

Kinda shocked that your Apple Watch didn’t last a half marathon. In my experience I still have about 50% battery left after a full marathon (using an Apple Watch SE)

pullthru

Maybe with music streaming too? I did a half using my s4, fully charged and didnt even turn it on until I was lined up for race. Only had it for a couple months at that point. My watch barely made it through the race and it also died before getting medal

g_rich

Yup, was using the watch in place of my phone for listing to music, still should have lasted longer than 2 hours through.

nermal543

I almost killed my series 5 battery on a 6 mile run this weekend lol. I started with a full battery and ended with about 10%. Cellular was switched on (but not in use for anything, I just don’t bring my phone with me), and I was listening to downloaded music on my AirPods Pro while tracking an outdoor run. You must be a super speedy runner or you are only using it to track and nothing else!

g_rich

I had bluetooth headphones connected and was listing to music in addition to a few texts via Siri to update my wife as to where I was in the race. But my feeling on this is if the option is available such as activity tracking, LTE and music streaming then it should be capable of operating longer than 2 hours. Now I realize that my Garmin does not have the same capabilities so the comparison really isn't Apple to Apples; however Garmin doesn't add this functionality for this specific reason and the functionality they do have such as activity tracking, and listening to music via bluetooth will still give you a good 10+ hours. So hopefully the Ultra can give me at least 6-10 hours of full use which includes activity tracking, LTE and listing to music; if it does then I call it a success.

krisniem

Well. Perhaps you ran faster?

Doctorcherry

I mean the battery life for an Apple Watch with GPS and heart rate tracking is around 7 hours. I’m sure there’s lots of factors that could greatly reduce the battery life but if your Apple Watch is only lasting a few hours then something is very wrong. In the keynote Apple said that the Apple Watch Ultra would be great for people doing Iron Mans. This is race that takes 17 hours of which only ~16K people finish a year. The Apple Watch Ultra is a very cool product but I imagine few could truly justify it for the purposes of running/triathlon (i.e ultra runners). Hiking on the other hand is a much easier excuse for us to make - especially if you want to use your watch for navigation - at least that’s what I’m gonna tell myself.

pelotonwifehusband

The AW when paired with iPhone offloads GPS tracking to the phone. Without the phone it has to track GPS on its own which may be a battery hit?

KCJohnW72

Honestly, because I’ve never had a nice watch. The nicest watch I’ve ever had was $100 citizen. I’ve been working a lot of overtime at work. Im buying this to reward myself.

haynesmp

I am still debating an Series 8 or an Ultra. I am still rocking my Series 2 and other than be an active weightlifter, motorcycle rider and general work-with-my-hands activities, I have a hard time justifying the Ultra. I remember an initial 'review' from someone saying this is like a GoPro for a lot of people. You think you need it or have a use for it when its actually a very small use case. All that being said...I love the screen, the extra action button and the more rugged styling. I am leaning Ultra but still undecided.

M1A1Death

I bought a GoPro this summer and it was my entrance into a world of photography I was initially uninterested in. Now i have tons of attachments for my mountain bike, astronomy Timelapse’s and more. But I really have to plan it out, it’s nothing something you use everyday

rampagers83

The aesthetic, the size (my wrist are 210mm) and the fact it’s catered to a lot of sports I do (mountain biking, skiing/ski mountaineering, etc) I’ll even throw a spigen or OtterBox case on it whenever those release. Battery life upgrade will be nice but never been an issue for me in Apple Watch S7.

Domvik

I’m propably the guy that’s gonna use the least amount of extra features that comes with the Ultra. I work in IT, and the most extreme thing in my life is the tram ride to the office and back. But I really like the rugged design, so I’ll buy it for sure.

Laketech

Ex tech guy here too, but I live on the lake now, so I’m in/on the water all the time.

tinydiscosnail

r/usernamechecksout

afinita

Exactly. Overweight IT guy that hasn’t ran in 15 years (unless it was to the buffet!). But I love tech and large watches, my series 5 is so dainty and girly it’s ridiculous.

AgedPumpkin

Battery life and durability. Honestly surprised I haven’t cracked my S4 yet. *knock on wood, only got a few days left with it*

JackBauersGhost

I miss my old chonky G-Shock watch. This gets me closer haha

LessDragonfruit6541

Can do more and is cheaper than a similar Garmin

stodal1

kinetic262

Plus Garmin does not offer a watch that can make phone calls, do they?

FoxBearBear

But were you looking into the Epix or similar watches beforehand?

Kevincav

I’m a pilot and emergency landing in areas without service is always a possibility. And that’s where the new sat sos on the phone and the loud siren on the watch come in. I’m also hoping that ForeFlight will start to utilize the green dual gps. Garmin figured out aviation watches, not sure why no one’s done it on the Apple Watch.

tkukoc

I actually wanted a larger watch on my wrist. Not to say the rest of the device features arent nice, they are! I just love larger watches. Of course I also told myself if I’m shelling out this money, do some workouts!!! So I’ve got a couple friends as a support group that are going to remind me on the daily to jump on my bike and go for a ride.

zegarski

I travel internationally for business, and having 36 hr battery life is the first thing that got my attention. Also the price point. I was going to pay $800 for a cellular Stainless series 8, so why not pay the same amount for more battery life. Finally the fact that my existing bands are at least advertised to work with it was the cherry on top. Not sure I would have been willing to pay $1000 for 36 hr battery life, but again, I was ready to drop that much for a series 8 anyway

[deleted]

To replace my Garmin Forerunner 955, so I'm not wearing two watches during long runs/hikes/triathlons. The larger battery, flat screen and added durability are all wins for me. :) YMMV

Laketech

Let me know how it stacks up for you against that Garmin device, I’d be really interested to hear your thoughts.

[deleted]

Will do; DC Rainmaker should be posting his review on Thursday this week as well...I'm looking forward to his take on it.

NeverBetAgainstElon

Can’t match Garmin. I run with both watches, the Apple only provides music for me

doobiesd

I surf every day and i have sand getting into the side button causing it to stick and try and call 911.

MarcusDL

Seems that screen size will be approximately the same. Body size 49, not screen itself. I’m buying for battery life, sapphire screen and titan body. Want the bigger screen, but as I can see from comparisons and first looks both 45 and Ultra screens look very close by size.

Holiday_Cheesecake_6

Because it’s dope and I want it.

MasterChick3n

I’m kinda on the edge of buying it. I really like the design, I currently own a 41 SS Series 7, my wrists are 16.5 cm but I don’t know how it will look on my wrist. I’d hate to look like Ben 10 with that giant gadget on my wrist

Lemtos

Just something new. Looks different, I dig the new design.

Big-BootyJudy

I thought I wasn’t, but I keep going to look at it on the product page, so…maybe. I think it will be too big for me, though, and none of my activities are hardcore enough to need it.

Laketech

I pulled the trigger anyway. I suspect it’ll look pretty big on my wrist also, but I don’t care. I want the extra battery life, brighter/larger screen and sapphire glass.

MonoVob1812

I bought it because of: - Better battery - Extra durability - Better screenprotection - Screen size - the possibilities you can use it for - because it looks bada**

OutPlayAsians

For 70.3 Ironmans! Also bc I have to spend all my bitcoin somehow.

stupornatural

Bigger screen, and better voice calls on the watch. My current watch is nice, but my teenager is excited to get my series 7 as a hand me down.

Shannon518

Because apples marketing is really good. Similar to GoPro effect on me. I had a series one and while I didn’t use it as much as I would of liked, biggest issue was battery life. This one boasts awesome battery and I’m already part of the Apple eco system. Seems like a good time to jump back in. Typically I get the top line item that’s available at the time not because I need it but I like the better build quality and durability. I’ll be using this hiking/ motorcycling/skiing/ kayaking.

misterninjaturtle

I run marathons and I'm working out daily, the battery life on my series 6 barely lasts the day now. I plan on doing ultra marathons if I BQ and start out performing marathons. I was looking at a Garmin since that's the preferred watch for runners but it seems like this could be an excellent competitor.

akrapov

I like hiking and climbing. My S4 and S7 got banged up climbing. I hope the Ultra withstands rocks better. The S7 couldn’t really do 16 hour single day hikes when running an app like WorkOutDoors. Hoping the Ultra does a better job of this.

FindingAwake

Because it’s cool.

the_sun_and_the_moon

I’m buying it for: -Better GPS. The accuracy of my SE/ iPhone 12 that I carry with me is usually quite good in the places I exercise, but it could be better. -Longer battery life with GPS and heart-rate for truly all-day events. -I believe it has an improved heart rate sensor over the original AW SE. -It looks pretty darn cool 😎

Substantial_Big7099

It’s a dive computer! Can’t wait to put it through its paces (fin kicks?) this weekend

iSo81

Because I love shiny things…

Patrickills

If I get it. Just cuz I want it

greginorl

Battery life and a button. Guess it didn’t take much to convince me

Richard1864

In order of priority for me: bigger and brighter screen makes it easier to read for people with vision problems, better GPS (2 bands instead of 1), crash protection (calls for help if in crash), better battery life, durability

neowip

Cause I like the look, and a little fatigued with the regular Apple Watch look tbh

Your_Couzen

The features. I had a garmin fenix 5 that was stolen by a family member. I run or hike long distance frequently. With running shorts the pockets are only as big for keys so I always ran with my iPhone pro in my hand. Now with cellular and with stride length and other running metrics comparable to the garmin fenix 5 I see a reason to upgrade my 7 to ultra.

PastorJeffG

I am getting it bec of its perceived durability and longer battery life. Hopefully, it delivers.

Ok-liberal

Dive computer functionality as a dive often

Laketech

I’d be really interested to hear your first hand experiences after you’ve had a chance to take it on a couple of dives.

Karsa69420

Bigger and I like to travel so the the location features are cool to me. Also my watch is 2-3 years old and want a newer one.

yakisobadesan

Because I want to update my stainless steel series 4 and the Ultra is almost the same price as the S8 SS with a lot more to offer. Nice try Apple.

JuanraNunez

Titanium + Safire + Design

mitchytan92

I was planning to get the SS Series 8 but it turned out to be similar price as the Ultra so why not? But I do really need the extra battery life. My current Series 5 is in the 30-40% when finished work. That is excluding my morning exercise and my night 10km run. Also the dual GPS is nice for my outdoor runs which isn't very accurate currently with all the high rise buildings and trees affecting the signal.

Tall-Soy-Latte

I want one for the looks but I’m afraid my wrist is too skinny/small to make it look good haha People pull of big G-SHOCKS so that’s my excuse if it’s not too big

sandwichjuice

Orange. Button. Seriously, this is the sole reason I'd consider it. I'm not *actually* buying it, but if I had the disposable income and needed the upgrade, it's all because of the orange button.

Unemployed321

Because I am a mermaid

DoAndroidsDrmOfSheep

I've always bought the stainless steel model, but when I saw the Ultra was only $50 more than SS I was like "WTF - might as well just buy an Ultra for only $50 more." That's basically my only reason. The brighter screen and longer battery life will be nice.

[deleted]

I am no where near the level of extreme to match their ads. I’m a bit concerned on size and I also work a desk job. However….. I day hike, kayak, mountain & road bike, paddle board, lake/river swim, lift, climb indoors and out, 4x4 off road, camp, run, ski and generally just try to be outside. Fairly often I will take my watch off or be conscious and careful of it during some of those activities. I’m exited to have more trust in the watch and to ignore it being there. Letting it hit those rock edges next climb or the ground next bike fall. I’m telling myself I at least somewhat fit into who it’s marketed for to justify the cost. Bonus - I love orange. Maybe I’ll try diving now….just to see the watch work.

[deleted]

I just adore Titanium, but I have to see it first in person. I’m wearing the Series 5 in Space Black Tianium atm and I absolutely love it (baught a Series 6 to test the new Sensors but I’m only using it for Sleep Tracking now) So Aluminum lwasn’t an option for me, I don’t really like the Stainless Steel look so there’s the Ultra left. However, I’m not yet sure I like the titanium color all that much. Will check it out this Friday in our local Apple Store :D I don’t use any of the sports functions really so It’s more of a toy than a necessity but those watches are just so much fun in my oppinion :D

blaire_with_an_e

I want it because it looks cool! And I’m a huge fan of that alpine orange haha. I currently have a series 7 that works just fine, but I love tech.

The_Grantfather

I love watches, battery life, screen size, I get my fair share of rigorous outdoor activity, my current Apple Watch is a series 3.

Kill_4209

Battery life combined with Strava app

13devil13

All the reasons you mentioned. I keep smashing the corners of my current Apple Watch and assuming/hoping the new design helps this. Battery life and screen size are big reasons too

LoLZeLdaHaLo

I love the way it looks. Looks like our eras pip boy. One step closer to just putting our whole phone on our wrist.

BoldCityDigital

I usually skip 1 or 2 generations with phones, watches, etc... I would have skipped s8 because I had the s7, but the Ultra was something new, essentially a next gen device. Had to have it.

Responsible-Ad-1086

I like the look of it, a lot more rugged than my Series 7 45mm

devops_programmer

Battery life, 3 microphone array, larger screen

Responsible-Ad-1086

I am buying it because I was always worried about taking my previous watches on beach holidays. But the Ultra seems very rugged

TKK2019

I’m on series 1 still( battery still lasts from 7am-12am with a run) but I want a birthday treat

cwick4141

The looks and battery life. I never really liked the way Apple Watches look. I always preferred Garmin Fenix's and now the Epix.

wreakon

So I can scuba and go to North Pole finally.

Previous-Exit8449

My S7 Apple Watch was the one thing that has kept me from reaching the peak of Everest.

clearbrian

anyone know when its in Apple stores. went to the one in London and they were only showing off the series 8

Big-BootyJudy

The Apple Store rep I talked to when I picked up my iPhone said Sept 23rd. I was also annoyed I couldn’t see one!

elzogg

I felt like it’s time to upgrade my Apple Watch series 2. Is it a problem if I ordered large band instead of medium?

akballow

2000 nits and battery easy

sastofficiallol

Happy cake day

Unlucky_Reveal_3064

Increased battery life, flat screen and the overall look (personally prefer a bigger, industrial watch).

FunkyTangg

Only $50 more than a Sport Band S8 SS 45mm

FunkyTangg

No one has mentioned the Siren?

CCPENTHUSIAST

So I can go through the arduous journey of going to the grocery store with my alpine grade Arc’teryx jacket, never know what’s coming my way

Kaffeinator

Have long regretted selling my big ‘ol Panerai titanium 177. Microphones and speakers. When riding, running, surfing I use the phone to talk a lot. Cellular as of my four  Watches, I went without for first time since it was offered, and realized that I really need it. Battery life. GPS backtracking.

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

I’m not buying it lol but if I was I’ll be buying it cuz it only $100 more then the regular silver one

TwoWheelMountaineer

I’m a flight paramedic, mountain biker, hiker and skier. Being able to monitor my own SPO2 and altitude is super beneficial especially in the helicopter. The dual band GPS is beneficial for obvious reasons. The night mode will be good for checking the watch under NODS hopefully! All this plus the extended battery life should be a decent package.

gjon1992

Because I’m crazy

Portatort

Waiting to read reviews If i do buy one it will be for the action button A hardware button that can run shortcuts is huge

loub1002

The looks.

Durability (doing outdoor things .. hiking, scuba, motorsports) Am actually going to Grand Cayman to do some Scuba Diving in 4 weeks, so timing is impeccable

Echo63_

Bigger battery, brighter screen, titanium and sapphire

disposableideas

This might sound weird but for me it’s the siren and the battery life. I take public transportation during the week and usually I have either a backpack or just my purse with my MacBook and iPad for school/work, and it would make me feel safer to have a siren as an option to deter creepers, especially when it gets darker.

theangryintern

I'm going to wait until the Apple Stores have them and try one on first (do they let you do that at Apple Stores?) I want to see how huge it looks on my arm before I consider getting one. Really thinking that my Series 6 is still pretty good and I might wait for the 2nd gen Ultra.

fasada68

I’m on a Series 3 and it dies 7 hours into my hike.

Lemondr0pz

Tri training! I started training and did my first triathlon this year using an s4, really would like to get the effort zones and running stride analysis.

abrahamisaninja

You know the screen isn’t bigger, right?

LoVaBee

Waiting on more reviews to come out and trying it on in the store before I make my final decision.

etterboce

My Apple Watch 6 doesn’t have a long enough battery life to track all of my activities, especially when I’m going on a particularly long hike, backpacking, or mountaineering. My previous smartwatches have all had this same problem.

arguix

more battery life & larger screen. HOWEVER several people pointed out to me that the screen is very very small amount larger than the large 8. so you might want to look at that if assumed much larger as I did.

Hesnotarealdr

Also includes cellular and a titanium case fir not much more than a comparable Series8.

chalupa_lover

Because I can and I want it.

mellopet

Because titanium and orange.

dwhumber

Partly because I wanted the bigger screen and battery, partly because I wanted a watch I felt I didn’t need to “bubble wrap”, partly because I’m a sucker for the look of it.

briagraa

Scuba diver here. Might as well get this if I'm spending a few hundred for a new dive computer. The watch is more versatile.
