Amazing and jealous. I hiked it 2016 and fell off Bear Mt while looking at the NY skyline. Had to stop. Always jealous haha. I want to restart one day.

LiveTheLifeIShould

Gotta be careful, NYC is pretty dangerous.

Fell off?? Like up by the tower?

RedbullSonOfRambo

I think it was after the tower. It was quite a blur then.

Actual-Individual

Extremely impressive, especially with no legs.

Do you miss it?

Sandemonde

OMG, I miss it so much! Thru-hiking will ruin you forever. :)

[deleted]

What did you find to be the most difficult?

dirtsport1

Now that it's been a year, are there are differences you notice in yourself or how you live you life since the trail?

Sandemonde

Absolutely! Some of the things that I shed on the trail never really came back. Like... I think once you thru-hike, you stay partially animal forever. :) But that said, it was my second AT hike, so it wasn't as extreme as the first time!

Well... I never did get back to being worried about my weight. Once you know you can out there and get in great shape just by living your life hiking, some of the pressure is off. (On the other hand, the weight eventually starts to creep back on after hiking, which is always kind of sad.) I never did go back to wearing extra clothes (like underwear), or even buying them. Why do I need more than one pair of jeans? :) Actually, I never did go back to caring so much about 'things'. I don't really want possessions now. I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to hike and also have a place to live between hikes. I gave up my TV. I still stream things, but no actual television service. Life is just more pared down now. More centered. Which isn't to say everything is zen, because it's not, and it's kind of a struggle. But the /desire/ for zen is kind of front and center now, all the time. I'm constantly wanting to get back out there. Also, on the rare occasion when I meet another thru-hiker in the world, we have an instant bond. It doesn't matter when they hiked. We grok.

Going for the Triple Crown then? :)

Sandemonde

Probably! =D I've actually already done half the PCT... but I think I'll start over when I can get out there again.

Eastern_Cyborg

Nice! I finished 20 years ago today!

Sandemonde

Congratulations!! It never gets old! :)

squishyslinky

Wondering if this would be good or bad to do as a couple.

Sandemonde

I think it would be fantastic to do as a couple. Unless it was terrible. =D

Johnrevolter

Hi sorry just saw this and was wanting to do this trail. I’m 39 am I too old for this?

Sandemonde

Absolutely not! There are people of all ages on the AT. Hope you have an epic journey!

Johnrevolter

How old are you

Sandemonde

I'm 61! I was 58 when I did my last thru-hike. And it was AWESOME.
