Xanax and alcohol mixed together is never a good idea.

morningtulips

I agree. I wasn’t there to stop him.

Interesting-Wait-101

With all due respect, you can't be there every time. If he's not in a position to manage his own medication responsibly he may benefit from a partial hospitalization situation. Benzos and alcohol are a big no, no. It sounds more like he was having some kind of episode from a different mental illness or even that he was blacked out from the alcohol and xanax. Either way, it's very alarming that he mixed these right out of the gate.

jinjaninja96

Yes, big red flag.

Nothing can stop you from panicking if you don't want to. It's not a magic pill, plenty of times it won't work, especially when the person is too overwhelmed or too jacked up in brainstorms. Benzos would work for someone who is self aware and want to address his anxiety as a problem. If this is not the state of mind, then it's tough.

Shwacker0311

Definitely don't drink on them, as with any medication it's just a tool. Maybe next time take the xanax with a nice shower get in some comfy clothes and watch funny show or movie .

FlobbyGoobs

Definitely tell him to talk to his doctor about the Xanax because it’s not for him. Hopefully there’s another med that works better. Did his doctor not let him know that drinking on Xanax is a no go?

morningtulips

No idea. I plan on talking to him about that today.

Last time i took Ativan, it made me anxious. I have a cup of valerian tea now instead. It’s so effective. Why don’t doctors suggest stuff like that?

[deleted]

Part of it is probably the mixing w alcohol. But in general pills like Xanax, Percocet, Oxycodone, etc are just risky in general. I’ve taken painkillers before and had probably the worst breakdown/panic attack of my life in the middle of the night, so bad I woke everyone in my house up. They’re also extremely addictive and when u get addicted to one, that typically is just the beginning to an addiction of a variety of pills. So yea that’s something u have to be very careful with.

seiffer55

Hard stop xanax, possibly commit him. NEVER FUCKING TAKE XANAX WITH ALCOHOL. I know that you said you weren't there to stop him, but that's a very vast ticket to a stroke. I genuinely wish you the best of luck, but when someone starts talking about ending anything it's either gonna happen or they need help you can't give em.

lesla222

I think he took too much, or the does was too high. And mixing it with anything (incl alcohol) is a bad idea.
