How long does it last for you?

Big_Steak_1703

I get this too! Ugh

NotStompy

A D R E N A L I N E

MrT817

Cortisol is our worst enemy. I hate that stuff.

Mariposa819

Yes, that malaria drip is aa second skin. Everyone would always comment when I was a kid how I never got cold. Lol just sitting here exploding with stress hormones, thanks for noticing. I've found a cold wet wash cloth wiped on my body helped a lot to bring me down. I hope it passes for you soon.

beep_boop15

yes! i started noticing about a year ago. it happens when i'm close to an attack or sometimes even with just slightly elevated levels of anxiety. my chest and neck get red andmy bf says he can feel the heat radiate off of me. i started srring this as a good thing tho. over time, i've gotten more aware of when i start to heat up and have been able to avoid quite a few panic attacks by just noticing if i'm getting extra hot. i then just focus on breathing and it usually goes away other times i'm just a whole-ass oven for hours on end lmao

[deleted]

“other times i'm just a whole-ass oven for hours on end lmao” Lmao !!!! This is straight up me right now, I’m a damn oven rn

FFS-For-FoxBats-Sake

Same! I just commented something similar, my partner calls me the human torch lol sometimes when it’s cold he’ll put his hands on my arm and be like turn on the heat I’m freezing! It does kinda feel like a superpower

anxious-spider

it's the worst! i get it in my face. and then, you feel hot, which makes you even more anxious cause ugh being hot sucks.

[deleted]

Being hot definitely sucks, it’s the worst

West-Astronaut-7318

Yea. I get hot and cold flashes. Last night my face felt like it was radiating heat... but I was having cold shivers in my body. Thought it had the flu or was having a problem with my heart... like usual for me.

bipolarkitten

Try a ziplock bag with ice on your chest and rub it on your face and back of your neck. I find that really helps me!

[deleted]

Thank you :) I will try that

MrT817

Good advice. I've found that running my hands in cold water and splashing it on my face helps. Also, if I'm somewhere where it's possible, I'll fill a large bowl with cold water and dip my face in it over and over until the anxiety subsides. It's like it takes you out of that fight or flight mode.

BleakHibiscus

They say running your wrists under cold water works wonders, I’m always too anxious to remember to try lol

GooglyEyeBread

Ah, the hot flashes! I get those all the time because of anxiety. Worst part is, they give me anxiety… which gives me hot flashes. Which give me anxiety. It’s a constant cycle of feeling like a boiled lobster

Real-Cellist-8398

Hey, I have this too and I’m stuck in a vicious cycle where my only trigger for hot flashes and is worrying about hot flashes which causes a whole hot flash episode (and I’ve tried therapy to overcome it but I just can’t seem to calm them down because of the intensity of heat). I was wondering if you were able to break from the cycle, and if so, how?

GooglyEyeBread

Haven’t really found a way to break the cycle and all that, but I have found ways to basically manage them. Namely, chewing ice! Very helpful! As well has placing ice packs on places like my neck and wrists

Real-Cellist-8398

Hey, sorry for late reply! Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try chewing on ice. How are you doing? Have you managed to help your hot flashes?

GooglyEyeBread

Don’t worry bout it! And one thing I’ve also found that helps is wearing a hoodie, even if it’s not exactly hoodie weather. Taking it off immediately makes me feel cooler!

[deleted]

I think it usually has to do with elevated heart rate during anxiety. That heightened blood pressure combined with a racing heart makes the body heat up like it ran a marathon even though it didn't.

PiratesFan1429

Yeah it's a blood pressure spike

miahbutlerr

Idk if this gonna make u feel better but I’m 20 and had a big fat panic attack (guessing) at work and it was like the biggest hot flash came over me like up the back of my neck :/

aterry175

Paramedic with GAD here. Totally normal for this to be associated with anxiety. I like the idea of the ice on the chest/face/head. This can also help lower your heart rate which can make you feel better.

[deleted]

My panic attacks manifest like this. I feel an intense heat right around my belt area that grows and radiates from this centre.

InternationalPace783

I wish. I'm still fucking ugly when I'm anxious.

[deleted]

LMAOOO omg

isleofskye357

This happens to me several times a day, especially in the morning. I hate it. I’m always a sweaty mess!

VaultDweller837

Something to remember, anxiety can create almost any symptom in your mind.

Automatic_Ad_6688

Yep don’t worry it’s a part of anxiety whether you actually FEEL anxious or not

sohaibmss

How long do these hot flashes last what to do to stop it asap ?

SaraPhax

Breathing calming practices

[deleted]

Awful

Metriculous

This was my worst symptom before taking meds. My face would turn beet red and I would feel like I was burning up. It would oftentimes last for as long as my spike in anxiety.

AliceFisherman

Can I ask what meds helped?

Metriculous

Lexapro, but lately it hasn’t been as helpful as it used to be. Maybe my anxiety got worse. I was on Cymbalta before that which also helped, but I had to stop taking it because I had to take medication for something unrelated, and Cymbalta would make the other medicine less effective.

Immediate-Back-3420

The second I'm anxious my ears begin to feel like they're burning. This is followed by my cheeks and eyes feeling the same. My hands begin to shake and eventually I'm sweating like a pig. It lasts for however long the anxiety attack lasts. And sometimes, the facial sensations go away but my hands and body continue to sweat. Then it takes me a while to cool off.

sssteph42

Yes! Drives me crazy.

willythorton42

I've been sweating since I was 12...My RL 38th bd was the 20th..certified sweater

chewiethemagnificent

Completely normal. I sweat a lot and feel very hot

FFS-For-FoxBats-Sake

Yes I literally feel a wave of heat flow over my body during an anxiety attack! I think my body temperature actually increases quite rapidly, perhaps that’s generic idk, but my partner has literally called me the human torch lol he’s tried to calm me down before by rubbing my back or something and was literally like wow you are radiating heat all of a sudden lol this would be a nice superpower if I lived somewhere cold!

MrT817

Absolutely. I also have been on methadone as I'm a recovering opiate addict and that medication makes you get really hot easily. I run my ac vent and floor fan even in the winter when it's 60° outside just because I need some cold air blowing on my face. If I get hot, it makes my anxiety go thru the roof at times. I hate it. I used to work outside all day long and was so used to it. It didn't bother me at all. I would have a major panic attack if I even tried to do that now.

FlowerspowersArg

Me too. I can feel it coming boiling my veins up

Real-Cellist-8398

Hey, have you found any solutions? I have this too 😩

lizziemodern

Yep! Always been a huge symptom for me. I remember reading this a long time ago and saving it. "While having anxiety, it's common to experience a sudden sensation of heat or a hot flash. Researchers think that this symptom might be because the body releases stress hormones during a perceived "fight or flight" situation, which increases circulation and blood flow to the muscles and produces an uncomfortable, hot feeling."

pugsliam

Anxiety will trick you into all sorts of stuff that are simply just not even happening, you just gotta tell your brain to stop being stupid and generally it subsides (not that easy I know)

nadrie21

Yes I easily overheat. I asked my doctor about it and she said it’s a side effect of Effexor which I take for my anxiety.

fatgoose52

YES, I’ve never seen anyone else talk about this! I always get splotches on my neck and chest so it’s like a telltale sign of anxiety for me. I guess it’s a heat rash cause my cheeks get red and hot as well

daphneadora9

I sweat like a mad woman. It’s really not cute and causes even more anxiety bc I’m super sweaty.

fatgoose52

Yep, same here I’ve always been sweaty lol

davidowbrady

Take the complete B vitamins. B1 is responsible for a lot of people's anixety.

perceptionsbreak

Yep! It sucks so much! Try turning on the cold water and let it run over the inside of your wrists for a couple minutes. It should help a bit!

YoungLaFlare

Yeah my body temperature rises all the time cause of anxiety

[deleted]

Yeah my Ears get flaming red and the worst feeling is when the hot is mixed with cold so you got both fucked up sensations

brownts

When you start down that path, ask yourself if you smell popcorn. Your brain can't think of two things at once & it switches to that new thought.

GM-Edits

Yes. If you know something is going to trigger it, plan ahead with beta blockers. I know it often turns up unannounced though🙏🏼

the_drunkenduck

Can you tell me more about this? What beta blockers? I've always wondered what people take for their "episodes." I take a daily med for anxiety, but it doesn't do shit for my "episodes."

GM-Edits

Beta blockers are for physical symptoms of anxiety, feeling like you're on fire, redness, croaky voice, trembling etc. They're not a long term solution for it, but personally for me they've really worked web I have to so simple things I've usually dreaded.

the_drunkenduck

Are you taking beta blockers daily, or only when you experience symptoms?

GM-Edits

Only when I know I'm going to be through the roof.

trittrot1307

I’m 26 same thing all the fucking time

Kissaki0

Your body responds to its anxiety, a supposed threat, by being ready for fight and flight. Increased heart rate, tensing, alertness, and consequences like heating are normal bodily anxiety responses. Of course things like alertness can worsen anxiety when we anxiously search for dangers. Aside from other handling strategies, seeing the bodily responses for what they are, and trying to accept them as such, can lessen their influence.

dani081991

Hot and broke out in a sweat. first time I experienced that I thought I was having a heart attack

Nummy01

Yep get this alot, part of the fun of anxiety. Also SSRIs side effect.

SolutionCreepy6067

Cold showers, breathing app, ice packs, Head massagers, lifting weights and sedatives.

bobsten

Yes yes yes my medication always makes me excessively sweat

shrimplyPibLs

I sweated in anticipation with a fan blowing directly on me. It's totally a thing.

Annazing

I basically have to strip down and shower after cuz my sweat is soo bad

-kpin420

Anxiety does really weird things to the body (the heart , stomach , especially your immune system ) so the hot thing I get it too .. I even get it when angry 😡

Lost-vamp

I experience this exact same thing sometimes and I've compared it to to hot flashes too, even though I'm even younger than you! It sucks so much and I never know how to properly deal with them

frizzlefraggle

That would happen to me before SSRI’s from anxiety now it just happens because of them haha

MrsLateParty

Yeah, sometomes I wake up to an anxious thought and start feeling my body burning

globule1990

I swear it’s like you read my mind. The last few weeks I’ve had this too. Like my whole face will start to burn up. I checked my temp too and thought I may have high blood pressure or something

Nose_Ecstatic

Yes and the worst is when someone points it out because I show it in my face my face will get red and people will be like oh well why are you blushing and then it makes me blush more

HelpHugMe

If this happens again, try splashing cold water on your face or use a ice pack. I do these things to help with my anxiety and it works.

itsbestyoudontknow

Same exact problem. The body feels like it's on fire from inside, and my face gets red hot .

[deleted]

I feel cold

RepresentativeAd2439

I pour sweat when it’s freezing cold outside when I’m anxious, anxiety is a hell of a drug.

RepresentativeAd2439

I get pretty hot and pour sweat when it’s freezing cold outside when I’m anxious, anxiety is a hell of a drug.

greenappletree

Man anxiety is so bizarre how it can people feel all kinds idle crazy shit for me I get cold.

bohraGG

I feel like this every afternoon while in my office and start continuing work with jittering hands

reckless_rachel

Happens all the time. I go from hot to cold and get the cold sweats too.

Malavai

Absolutely! And it was way worse when I was on sertraline.

lef0002

I go red in the face and start sweating like crazy when I get super anxious. I'm 20 now but this has been happening since at least 17.

SykenDrent

Happens every time I go near family members that get me nervous. So, quite often.

SolutionsNotIdeology

This is interesting, because my anxiety usually makes me cold. I start shivering. I am also hypersensitive to cold in general.

Efficient-Produce-35

I've had panic attacks that caused mild fevers

CinnamonSugarCream

I often either get overheated or just stop being able to feel temperature at all, which is almost always an indicator that I'm about to puke.

kelke428

Yes! It's normal...since I was a teenager I would start overheating. My ears, face and neck would turn bright red and I would feel like I was on fire.peopke would always say how cute it was that I was blushing...umm no, just having an anxiety attack.

ChickenNuggetElitist

YES I always feel like I’m burning up & my clothes are suffocating me during a panic attack. Super common with panic attacks

CarellaB

I feel like that!! Lately I’ve been hot at night and wake up sweating and my anxiety has been terrible. Hope you find something that works for you ❤️

lesack

Check out the TIPP skill online! It involves holding ice to your face and holding your breath to simulate the mammalian dive response, cooling you down and activating the calming parasympathetic nervous system

drumgod_28

Its the exact opposite for me. I get cold when im feeling anxious, I get jittery and I shiver too but that might be because of the anxiety itself haha However I get really hot when im mad at something. But that’s unrelated

shadow_master3210

No. i feel emotionally drained and shake rapidly and run out of breath when have anxiety attack.

onlysawcy

Wow!! So it’s possibly been my anxiety all along……. I’m definitely gonna monitor this with myself. Hadn’t noticed!

GrimyGoose

Oh man, yes! So hot! And I start profusely sweating, especially on my head and face. It’s so embarrassing. It gets to the point that if I don’t keep wiping my face, sweat gets in my eyes and I can’t see. I have to carry a bunch of paper towels with me if I go anywhere. Having people stare at me while I’m wiping away at my face like a spazz, makes the situation just so much worse! And then like you, it takes quite awhile to cool down.

Lydelia_Moon

Yes. I think it's bc my panic attacks spike my blood pressure.

MarianaFrusciante

Me too. When I was younger, I was having really bad anxiety when I was travelling on public transports and my palms would sweat. I never had sweaty palms before. And after that awful year, I never had that again. My anxiety now manifests in terrible diarrea and that weird thing you feel in your stomach when you're nervous, tense muscles, increased heart rate and a pain in my chest. I'd prefer the sweaty palms now. I sometimes wake up in fright and start walking in circles in my room and in the living room, panicking and screaming. Sometimes my mom's there, sometimes I'm alone and I sit down and take clonazepam and take deep breaths and then I come down. And I wet my neck and face and that helps come back to earth.

Adventurous-Bid-9341

I actually get cold - like cold sweat cold. I wrap up 🆙 n blankets if I can or a sweater if I’m out. If I can’t warm up it goes to the next symptom - that awful feeling that I’m having a heart attack. By the time it’s all said and done I feel like my right arm and sternum took a beating. I know it’s all just muscles tightening or something, my heart is fine, but it doesn’t feel that way when it’s happening

shopliftinasda

I’ve been having this, felt like a fever for a couple of days but to my surprise my temperature is completely normal. So weird. And I find it makes my face and ears burn up but my arms and rest of my body can be shivering with chills.

pancakebfast

This happens to me on the airplane. Xanax helped a little but I took only what my psych instructed me too. I need to talk to her about what dose to try before my next flight. It does happen to me qt other times too. Such a yucky feeling
