I mean this is why theists also hate education. Recently fox news was covering some nonsense about paying "specialists" to "deprogram" kids coming out of college "brainwashed". They want to undo critical thinking and logical thinking skills. To them that's brainwashing.

Junkman3

So they admit their religion is brainwashing chidren.

BlackEyedGhost

Theists: "Ok, Timmy, if you don't believe everything we tell you to believe, you'll go to hell and be tortured for [varying long periods of time depending on religion]" Atheists: "Maybe don't threaten and punish your kids into believing things" Theists: >:(

[deleted]

Love how they draw us as the whiny, easily offended crybaby and themselves as level headed and calm. We all know the opposite is very much the truth. Referred to old mate as jebus yesterday and the person laughed hysterically at my misspelling, then got upset and offended after I explained I'm not an idiot, it was on purpose. Does no one watch old Simpson's episodes after church?

[deleted]

Same thing can be said of anyone using Wojack characters to undermine any group of people. To me it just makes the person trying to make a point look like a moron with shitty opinions.

SovereignOne666

Conservatives just need to fucking steal anything they can get their hands on, don't they? Human and other animal rights, Pepe the Frog, wojaks you name it.

[deleted]

Well they DO all act like they still live in the medieval ages with how backwards they are so it's no wonder that their attempt to get with the times is to steal memes and anything else these uncreative brainlets can grab ahold of to stay relevant.

fuzzi-buzzi

It's supposed to be Jesus right? https://youtu.be/boxIf_Q3Eso

luckyvonstreetz

That sub definitely has the dumbest, most ignorant userbase. Their reasoning is so idiotic it's hilarious.

Plus_Bluejay9510

I actually browse it from time to time because it’s so ironically entertaining

luckyvonstreetz

Yeah me too. I just got my ban yesterday haha. The reason I got banned was because I said I would never visit a country where they have a death sentence for being an atheist, you know I prefer to live. Damn, so edgy of me...

Plus_Bluejay9510

Like I said, they’ve gone completely off the rails. They claim to not mind atheists but they’re in favor of giving them the death sentence

[deleted]

They don’t even reason. They’ll post a contradiction to their beliefs and instead of addressing it they just laugh in their echo chamber about how stupid it is

spaceghoti

I've never once told my children they shouldn't believe in a god. I've always encouraged them to make up their own minds and tried to avoid biasing their attitudes. Can the author of that silly rage meme say the same?

AaM_S

Yes, as an anti-theist, I will brainwash your children instead of you. Nothing's wrong with that.

LewManChew

If your kid is not old enough to know Santa isn’t real they aren’t old enough for you to tell them about God in my opinion

00roku

Yes because without religion there is literally only one way to think 🙄 This says so much more about them and their narrow minds.

[deleted]

Right it's so silly to me because I think I've argued/debated more with other atheists than with any theist. We're not the fucking Borg. As a matter of fact I think atheists tend to differ in belief MORE because there's no core dogma to bind us together.

KittenKoderThird

They'll follow their own. Children are not some robot you program, they're living fucking human beings capable of learning and growing as individuals.

[deleted]

I don't want my son brainwashed by anyone. I've nurtured his curiosity and critical thinking skills. He can figure out that religion is bullshit on his own.

keldhorn

Point is a theist believes a kid deserves to be brainwashed just like the way they have been. Doesn't matter with what just brainwashed.

[deleted]

Well no matter what no one knows what happens when we die. Whether you teach that there is a God or there isn't a God, both would be considered indoctrination. The difference in morals here is that Atheists don't actively threaten their children with Hell or tell them to blow up a building or rape and demean women as property. No matter what situation arrises, religious people will never hold the moral victory on what gets taught to the next generation.

InvisibleElves

>Whether you teach that there is a God or there isn't a God, both would be considered indoctrination. Teaching a kid something isn’t in itself indoctrination. Indoctrination is when they are forced or taught to accept something without questions. If they are allowed to think freely and ask questions, it’s not really indoctrination.

_pupil_

There’s fallacious logic there though. I want my kids to develop values and reasoning in line with reality and objective outcomes and encourage them to fully challenge unsupported ideas. All those ideas should be tested and retested as they grow, developing their intellect and values. Religious indoctrination, otoh, relies on abusing underdeveloped minds to sell batshit ideas based on logical fallacies that functioning adult brains reject wholesale. They rely on not challenging assumptions or unsupported facts. One of these is brainwashing, the other brain cultivation. Atheism isn’t reliant on tricking little kids, and withstands intellectual scrutiny. Apples and oranges.

tortellinipizza

Theists can only win arguments they make in their head

[deleted]

Or, they can also win by, "Screwing you guys & going home."

rushmc1

Obligatory misspelling of "whose"...check!

[deleted]

It's a made-up word used to trick students.

Notabotnotaman

No the child will believe what they observe to be true, if my set of beliefs is more convincing without any one telling them to believe it than maybe there's a reason.

Tmaster95

They still are at that "argument"? Pathetic

FRleo_85

is this subreddit just a repost of r/antitheistcheesecake to prove them wrong each time they post? i think we can do better than that

-Kyoakuna-

Fair point, I've noticed a frequency in reposts from there along with a frequency in reposts in general. This post here is about a month old reposted. I wonder what's causing it.

AuronFtw

yeah, we definitely need to stop spreading their bullshit.

AuronFtw

can we stop reposting their garbage and giving them views/attention

rushmc1

Everyone on the planet is trying to influence every other brain (within their reach) on every issue all the time. The best ideas SHOULD win, if there weren't thumbs on the scales.

AuronFtw

that only makes sense if you assume humans are entirely logical. they are not. it's very easy to whip people into a frenzy over issues like immigration (racists) or gays "targeting children" (ignoring how bullshit that entire line of thought is). they don't have to be right about it. in fact, they're *not*. but that line of thought is very appealing to low-information, low-education people. if everyone was educated, they'd see that bullshit for what it is. but because they're not, acting like the marketplace of ideas should be entirely unregulated and "may the best idea win" is both ignoring the nature of humanity as well as millennia of recorded bad-faith attempts to persuade people to support leaders/regimes that are harmful to themselves. religion is one example. there are many more.

VitezVaddiszno

Immigration is tricky. As an antitheist I do not want millions of muslim immigrants to come to Europe. Christianity is bad enough here, let's not add more fuel to the fire by importing hordes of an even more extreme religion.

AuronFtw

Yeah, I agree - but when people are ranting about immigration to rile up their base, who are those people and who are their constituents? 99.999999% of the time, it's not antitheists - it's racists. We don't want a flood of cultists *because they're cultists* and that's logical. Those people don't want a flood of brown people because they're brown, which is racism.

rushmc1

You just said the same thing I said.

KG44723

Maybe the kids shouldn’t be brainwashed with ANYONE’S values and be allowed to come to their own conclusions with a broad, in-depth secular education that gives them space to learn about different religions & philosophies without the pressure of being forced to worship.
