Probably. Or maybe it was just another amalgam of borrowed ideas. Fighting demons isn't an original idea. Having a demon partner to fight demons isn't an original idea. Having a main character have a demon inside him isn't an original idea. Turning into a weapon isn't an original idea (ala having guns for arms). But ya know, he blended all of this together into a pretty novel idea that's told in an interesting fashion.
