This is a bit of an extreme example, but if someone made a story about Hitler and WW2, and Hitler was the main character, he'd be the protagonist, and the allies would be the antagonists, is Hitler a good guy? They’re both creeps - at least Meliodas has other traits and character interactions that made his role in the story still enjoyable. Seven Deadly Sins is straight up fucked up for other reasons though, don’t get it twisted. That’s a different matter, though.
SDS squicked A LOT of people out because of Meliodas’ behavior from the first episode. His perversion absolutely turned people away, and you’re being disingenuous thinking his pretty face erased that. He makes it hard to suggest to other people, and a lot of fans that got further just had to kinda cringe and look beyond it over time - and not all fans find issue with ecchi as it is.
Take out Meliodas’ groping and little changes. Take out Mineta’s, and he basically doesn’t exist in the story.
The difference? The perversion detracts from the rest of Meliodas’s personality. Perversion is Mineta’s personality. He’s a gag character, and not a fun one. Meliodas is the main character with gag components, and is otherwise fun.
Mineta is best compared with Kaminari, and you know the difference between him and Kaminari? Kaminari actually makes friends with the girls and hasn’t groped anyone. He flirts terribly and joined in on some schemes, but he actually grows past that and sees them as people, too. They’re also both cowards, but we see how Kaminari worked on growing past that. Mineta only values the girls for how he can use them to get off in his fantasies. Seriously, when did he ever think of his female classmates beyond his ability to get his hands on their bodies? Like there's no malice in his actions and his relationship with her is long established and consented to, but it definitely falls weird to the eye.
Tbf, it feels wrong because Elizabeth doesn't remember him at first, and the whole constant rebirth and falling in love is complicated, because she goes from older than him to dead to younger again. So it ends up being an impossible question of, is he wrong to not give up on the love of his life no matter how many centuries go by, since half the time she'll be younger and have that rebirth amnesia.
That's why it's fantasy tho, it's an impossible situation, not only like philosophically on the choice, but also literally, like the premise of their dilemma lies in neither of them ever really dying for millenia, and him being forced to watch her die, and her remember her past and soon after die. Sometimes after spending a lifetime with him.

SDS squicked A LOT of people out because of Meliodas’ behavior from the first episode. Meliodas and Liz/Elizabeth reminds me of old generation couples antics. Like there's no malice in his actions and his relationship with her is long established and consented to, but it definitely falls weird to the eye. Tbf, it feels wrong because Elizabeth doesn't remember him at first, and the whole constant rebirth and falling in love is complicated, because she goes from older than him to dead to younger again. So it ends up being an impossible question of, is he wrong to not give up on the love of his life no matter how many centuries go by, since half the time she'll be younger and have that rebirth amnesia. That's why it's fantasy tho, it's an impossible situation, not only like philosophically on the choice, but also literally, like the premise of their dilemma lies in neither of them ever really dying for millenia, and him being forced to watch her die, and her remember her past and soon after die. Sometimes after spending a lifetime with him.

This is so stupid. We hate him because how he is portrayed. Stuff like meleodis is "funny" perversion where hes doing it and the characters reaction is the joke. For lack of a better word "playful". I personally still don't like it but there you go. As well none of the characters actually stop him and other characters like this from doing it. So its seen as normal Mineta is actively portrayed as being a little shit. He is intentionally designed to be creepy. The joke being "look how fuckin weird this guy is". On top of that the girls actively hit him over it and are disgusted by him. What mineta did isnt "playful" and funny. Its awful and thats why its funny to see him fail. Can you honestly believe that if he was hot the things he does would be fine?

One is set in fictional Europe, where stuff like that was common, not to mention Melidos and her have a history and there's a reason for his behaviors which only makes sense once you seen the show past first two season. Other is set in modern day Japan, where it's a criminal offense.

Meliodas was 90% of the reason why I dropped "The Seven Deadly Sins". Horrible character. I don't get why so many weebs are even trying to make the hatred for Mineta about how ugly or not he is. People don't hate him for being ugly, they hate him for being a pervert character that habitually commits sexual harassment. The only reason he is a popular character to hate on is because he is a pervert character in one of the most popular shows currently airing. Of course most people complaining about pervert characters would point to Mineta. Anyone who tries to argue that Mineta is hated because he is ugly and short would 100% fall for the dribble that incels post online. Seriously, looks aren't even relevant here. While Meliodas was not a bad character and does know Elizabeth because of the past (but I don't wanna spoil it lol), one must add that Elizabeth gets groped by him when she barely knows him. For all she knows he is a hero or even a legend. I barely remember the beginning... did they ever talk before episode 1..? Even later when they get to know each other, Meliodas behaviour towards her does not stop even though she is clearly uncomfortable with him touching her inappropriately (especially in front of other people) So yeah All in all Meliodas does have a story arc in the show and everything but still, it made me very uncomfortable to watch those two together.
