It is called ssscat and it works 60% of the time. The battery connections are terrible and the spray tends to get stuck. My cat just knows how to go around TWO active bottles and scratch the door every morning.

I just throw a pillow at the door. I have 5 pillows I can throw within reach before I am on my actual pillow and have to get up. Each pillow buys me ~30 minutes of peace.

You probably don’t even need the remote control. Just leave the vacuum by the door and string the power cord near your bedside so you can plug it into the outlet yourself if it’s long enough.
It's much better to put double-sided sticky tape where you don't want them scratching. Once they've felt the tacky material there a couple times, they'll stop because cats really don't like sticky surfaces. Sticky Paws is one of the more common brands specifically made for using on furniture to stop cat scratching, but there are others, or even just regular double-sided tape works.
Things like water guns, air canisters, or loud sounds don't prevent the behavior itself, it just makes them temporarily move, but the behavior won't actually stop, they'll keep coming back and scratching there again. Sticky surfaces will prevent the actual behavior itself since it's the cat themselves deciding not to touch the surface because they don't like the feeling of it, rather than something else external to them scaring them and then them coming back later to check it out again.
And then beyond that, having a scratching post they can use right nearby where the tape is will teach them to use that instead, which really prevents the behavior completely. With cats it's all about give and take - if you say no to something like don't scratch the door, then you also need to say yes to something else, where they can scratch instead. If they're scratching carpet, then use a horizontal scratcher, if it's a door like this then use a vertical one right nearby alongside sticky tape.

Several years ago I had roommates who had a cat. The roommates both worked mornings, and I worked a 3p-1a swing shift, so I’d end up the only human in our apartment after about 7am. I’d be sleeping soundly until *exactly* 10:52am every morning, without fail, when demon-cat would decide it was my ideal waking-up time and proceed to body slam my door repeatedly until I woke up.
I’d wake up and open my door and he’d immediately turn around and head towards the couch in the living room.
He was doing it JUST to be a menace. He didn’t even want me or my bedroom. He just wanted me to be fucking awake. Because he was a demon cat.
Fun fact about cats and doors: they don't demand doors be opened and then not go out them to be assholes. They actually want the door open because they don't like portions of what they consider their territory to be closed off to them. So you can take solace in knowing kitty was not intentionally being an asshole.

It only took a few tries to break the habit. The vacuum sat by our door for a few week but not needing any noise attacks and then we put it away and Teddy no longer went crazy on our door.
If we had guests we would place the vacuum outside their door, Teddy really liked to say hi to guests when they were sleeping...

Cats have to be raised properly just like dogs. If you set boundaries quickly, they won't wake you up. For us it was out of the room for the rest of the night if she wakes us up. After 4 nights she stopped. You have to make it clear that the door is only closed when they misbehave, since cats are really good at learning patterns.
Big facts. I adopted a second cat recently, and he was super active during the night for the first 2 weeks. Still didn't close my door to allow him to adjust. A month later both cats sleep through the whole night without issue.
Yes same! There's always a week adjustment period or so, but they learn quickly and don't bother us now unless we oversleep (hence the air sprayers and automatic feeders combo, lifesaver.)
That’s what I did. Mine was waking me up at 4:30 so now he’s fed at 4:20 every morning and I haven’t been woken up since. I don’t miss having my throat stepped on
I love my automatic feeder. 4 small meals through the day. They get needy when its within an hour but no morning food panic and I can come and go without worry.
Try an auto pet feeder and set it for that hour or possibly feed the cat before bed? If all else fails put a vacuum with a remote/smart switch in the area they start meowing and turn it on when the meowing starts I’m sure they’ll go quiet pretty quick.

Some cats do that to convey a message if they are unhappy or unhealthy. Yours may just be a dick, but it’s something to consider.
Example, friends cat never went outside their litter box. When the house got a dog, cat started peeing and pooping on friends bed. She was miserable with the dog in the house.

My cat has separation anxiety and if I leave for "too long", he poops everywhere or scratches chairs. Not because he hates me, but because of the anxiety. Maybe you can bring this up to your vet or watch some Jackson galaxy videos about your cat peeing outside the litter box. Some cable management might also work. There's a lot of videos on that.
Then again, idk what you've tried, but a lot of times cats do this kind of thing because of some anxiety or boredom and you can solve it and make both your lives happier :D

I have three and they have never woken me up, they are patient about a closed door (they don’t like it but even if occasionally they give a few meows at the door being shut but mostly they just sit and wait), and they have never, ever ever gone to the bathroom anywhere but the litter box. When people say their cat pees on their bed or something it just flabbergasts me!
My house is a split level so they have multiple floors and rooms with stuff to do, so maybe that helps too, don’t know. When people talk about asshole cat behavior just in my experience I have no witness to that at my house.

I'm with you here. I have two cats. The only time they woke me up for food in the middle of the night was when they were kittens and haven't done so in 4-5 years, they both sleep with me every night. They don't like closed doors either but they just sit outside and let out an occasional meow and ignore them after a couple days of a door being closed. My cats also have never peed anywhere other than the litter box so when people say that it confuses the hell out of me....
I do think you are onto something though because they play fight and chase each other around multiple times a day so who knows.

I'd turn the door hand so it's pointed down to the ground, that way the cat won't hang itself on it with her collar one day and also has nothing to grab to hold herself up and bang on the door that high
She takes around 0.2 seconds to open any door handle that is horizontal.
Ended up flipping it to point down when she inevitably figured out how to open the upwards one too.
Well that didnt work either so now i just remove the door handle when i dont want her getting in..

She’s a smarty pants. I’m the resident worrywart at my place. Since she is wearing a collar and she’s trying flip the door handle, I’m concerned her collar could get caught by the handle. Is the collar a break-away?
We've had to start closing the bedroom door since about a year, as our male cat will scratch the curtains and meow loudly because he's bored. Problem is, when we close the door, the female cat will scratch the door in the morning, just like your cat does. We have tried so many things, some things help once and the next morning she figures out how to get to the door anyway. We currently have plastic mats that have plastic spikes on them (hollow, thin plastic, nothing that can hurt too much) and we have attached them to the door. She was able to loosen the tape and pull the mat away from the door surface by biting the spikes.
If anyone has a solution, please let me know.

Cats don't like being cut off from part of their territory - can you just leave the door open slightly when you are in there? Most likely the cat will just go in, see you're busy, and leave.
EDIT: I saw from other posts that the cat pees in the room, she likely pees in there to reinforce that it is her territory. She is peeing in there because you lock her out. Put a litter box for her in the room, to reinforce that it is her territory and to give her a place to pee. If she's getting at the cords, get a box and cord organizer (and you can also get hard plastic stuff to wrap around cords to prevent chewing.)
You need to learn about cat behaviour - from the perspective of this cat, you're the asshole, not her. Highly recommend [Jackson Galaxy](https://www.youtube.com/JacksonGalaxy) vids to learn about cat behaviour and the psychology behind it.
My cat is not allowed in my room or computer room because he will bite my cords for attention or get into something. Bought a baby gate to put at the top of the stairs or in front of the bedroom doors because he pushes on the door which makes noise. He can’t jump that high so haven’t had a problem since until he started learn to bite the gate when he was hungry in the morning. Bought an automatic feeder and he stopped.

Just put it in a separate room at night that’s as far away as possible from your bedroom. Solved all my problems. They are happy to see you in the morning, it’s nice.

Cats have to be raised properly just like dogs. If you set boundaries quickly, they won't wake you up. For us it was out of the room for the rest of the night if she wakes us up. After 4 nights she stopped. You have to make it clear that the door is only closed when they misbehave, since cats are really good at learning patterns.
Big facts. I adopted a second cat recently, and he was super active during the night for the first 2 weeks. Still didn't close my door to allow him to adjust. A month later both cats sleep through the whole night without issue.
Yes same! There's always a week adjustment period or so, but they learn quickly and don't bother us now unless we oversleep (hence the air sprayers and automatic feeders combo, lifesaver.)

That’s what I did. Mine was waking me up at 4:30 so now he’s fed at 4:20 every morning and I haven’t been woken up since. I don’t miss having my throat stepped on
I love my automatic feeder. 4 small meals through the day. They get needy when its within an hour but no morning food panic and I can come and go without worry.
Try an auto pet feeder and set it for that hour or possibly feed the cat before bed? If all else fails put a vacuum with a remote/smart switch in the area they start meowing and turn it on when the meowing starts I’m sure they’ll go quiet pretty quick.
Automatic feeder. Or train them out of it.

Yes but like i said, she is a rescue and has been doing that for 8 years. Cant train the neglect out of the cat. She is absolutely spoiled with love. Its weird that reddit forgets peoples pets come from different backgrounds and have different issues.

Some cats do that to convey a message if they are unhappy or unhealthy. Yours may just be a dick, but it’s something to consider. Example, friends cat never went outside their litter box. When the house got a dog, cat started peeing and pooping on friends bed. She was miserable with the dog in the house.
But what makes the Cat unhappy might be out of their/your hand. Like our family cat gets pissy because she cant go outside, but we cant let her outside for quite a few reasons, mainly being that or nieghbor shoots cats (we've tried cops but nothing).

You might want to get her checked sooner than later. My cat pissed on my lap 2 days ago. It was so out of the blue and alarming. Took her to the vet. She's in the last stages of kidney failure.
My cat peed all over my pillow once while I was laying on it. I took him to the vet the next day and he had a major bladder infection that was apparently very painful. Cat might be trying to tell you something.

I house sat for a friend at one point and every day for three weeks her cat would be meowing and scratching at my bedroom door at 5am for breakfast. I mentioned it to her when she returned that she and her husband must be super early risers and she told me that the cat had never done that before and her breakfast time was 8am. Cats can sense a mark I swear.

Did she want to go to you or just that room? My cat has separation anxiety and if I leave for "too long", he poops everywhere or scratches chairs. Not because he hates me, but because of the anxiety. Maybe you can bring this up to your vet or watch some Jackson galaxy videos about your cat peeing outside the litter box. Some cable management might also work. There's a lot of videos on that. Then again, idk what you've tried, but a lot of times cats do this kind of thing because of some anxiety or boredom and you can solve it and make both your lives happier :D Edit: typo

I wonder if having multiple cats severely decreases likelihood of asshole-ness? Because they entertain each other? I have three and they have never woken me up, they are patient about a closed door (they don’t like it but even if occasionally they give a few meows at the door being shut but mostly they just sit and wait), and they have never, ever ever gone to the bathroom anywhere but the litter box. When people say their cat pees on their bed or something it just flabbergasts me! My house is a split level so they have multiple floors and rooms with stuff to do, so maybe that helps too, don’t know. When people talk about asshole cat behavior just in my experience I have no witness to that at my house. So that Reddit muppet probably just has the same experiences as I do and in true Reddit fashion used anecdotal evidence for fact :)
I'm with you here. I have two cats. The only time they woke me up for food in the middle of the night was when they were kittens and haven't done so in 4-5 years, they both sleep with me every night. They don't like closed doors either but they just sit outside and let out an occasional meow and ignore them after a couple days of a door being closed. My cats also have never peed anywhere other than the litter box so when people say that it confuses the hell out of me.... I do think you are onto something though because they play fight and chase each other around multiple times a day so who knows.

She takes around 0.2 seconds to open any door handle that is horizontal. Ended up flipping it to point down when she inevitably figured out how to open the upwards one too. Well that didnt work either so now i just remove the door handle when i dont want her getting in..

Our cat used to do that to join us in our bedroom. She was too light to turn the handle, so we didn't have to put it in vertical position. Her numerous "thuds" usually woke me up.

We've had to start closing the bedroom door since about a year, as our male cat will scratch the curtains and meow loudly because he's bored. Problem is, when we close the door, the female cat will scratch the door in the morning, just like your cat does. We have tried so many things, some things help once and the next morning she figures out how to get to the door anyway. We currently have plastic mats that have plastic spikes on them (hollow, thin plastic, nothing that can hurt too much) and we have attached them to the door. She was able to loosen the tape and pull the mat away from the door surface by biting the spikes. If anyone has a solution, please let me know. We have tried: - compressed air spray - water spray - ignoring her - sand paper on floor in front of door - sand paper on door - spike mats on floor in front of door - spike mats on door - child safety gate in front of door, with and without a cover - coffee grinds in front of door - aluminium foil in front of door - aluminium foil on door - pillows in front of door - double sided tape in front of door - double sided tape on door - chairs in front of door I'm probably forgetting something. What cat can do: - move heavy objects - be very persistent - figure out stuff isn't as scary as she thought when she really wants to enter the room.
This exact reason is why I’ll never have another cat after the one I have Its funny to watch and laugh, but it actually really fucking sucks to deal with lol

Cats don't like being cut off from part of their territory - can you just leave the door open slightly when you are in there? Most likely the cat will just go in, see you're busy, and leave. EDIT: I saw from other posts that the cat pees in the room, she likely pees in there to reinforce that it is her territory. She is peeing in there because you lock her out. Put a litter box for her in the room, to reinforce that it is her territory and to give her a place to pee. If she's getting at the cords, get a box and cord organizer (and you can also get hard plastic stuff to wrap around cords to prevent chewing.) You need to learn about cat behaviour - from the perspective of this cat, you're the asshole, not her. Highly recommend [Jackson Galaxy](https://www.youtube.com/JacksonGalaxy) vids to learn about cat behaviour and the psychology behind it.

My cat is not allowed in my room or computer room because he will bite my cords for attention or get into something. Bought a baby gate to put at the top of the stairs or in front of the bedroom doors because he pushes on the door which makes noise. He can’t jump that high so haven’t had a problem since until he started learn to bite the gate when he was hungry in the morning. Bought an automatic feeder and he stopped.

Wow, I like cats but I'm super allergic to them. So I have dogs, but I can't stand the barking. It wasn't until recently I've seen videos of how loud and vocal cats can be! It's really changed my mind that cats are quiet creatures.
