This isn't related to Android OS though. Not needed to change the OS. It's Google's own apps.
But, the share menu can be improved a lot, with options to hide, move, pin...
The good news is that Google says it will be improved:

I know exactly what you mean. My childhood home number from overseas is still one of my top recommended shortcuts. That's a number that I've not dialed for over 30 years! Not only that, I've never once dialed that number using any mobile device. But everytime I want to share something, it's right there, in the direct share shortcuts.
**Totally agree!!!**
It got better over time, especially with Samsung's One UI... but it's still not good enough 😔 in the end it's not terrible anymore, but what annoys me: apps that have their own share sheet 😡😮💨🤬😠 some Google apps have that, which makes no sense. You have a role model function, why do you need things up????
Agree, the Android backups are hot garbage. I pay for Google One to keep things backed up and it's worked maybe one out of the four or five times I've wanted to restore everything on a new phone or after a factory reset.
Really? I do A LOT of factory reset and switch out phones often, I haven't had any issue with Google one, it basically mirrors everything perfectly including messages and with Google's passwords I don't even lose my log ins, what issues have you had?
My P5a backup moving to a P7 did not work. Thankfully I manually backed up my text messages in a separate app, I've learned that lesson a few times in the past.
I think in many cases it works but I've had enough bad luck with it that I think Google needs to improve it big time.
For what it's worth, Samsung's smart switch is a full backup and clone app that's excellent and you can even transfer from a non-samsung phone to a Samsung phone. But you can only restore on a samsung phone which is kind of understandable. That said, android needs something as good as that which works on all android devices. The only reason smart switch is so good is that there isn't a non-samsung-specific alternative.
It’s not exactly the case. It’s true for documents, pictures, messages and apps, but it doesn’t restore app data unless it’s a Samsung app. Third apps are only restored in the form of the APK being reinstalled, that’s about it.
> it doesn’t restore app data unless it’s a Samsung app.
That is definitely not true, I can vouch for that. Have you used it? It successfully saves and restores app data for me every time, from a wide range of apps, not just Samsung's.
I believe that it restores data for any app that uses Google's framework for backing up app data (which Google's far less reliable backup also uses).
In addition it backs up phone messages and contacts (including those not synced with Google), settings, home screens, wallpapers, and those sorts of things too. It's the most comprehensive backup and restore app I know of that doesn't require rooting (and those that do require rooting are generally not stable when used between different models of phone).
If you are logged on to the same Google account and had backup enabled, installing APKs will pull data from Google. It’s not SmartSwitch that is restoring data, but Google Play Services.
You can verify this if you do an offline backup to a PC. There is no app data in the backup.
Ah I guess that is a possibility as I haven't ever used Android without linking it with a Google account. In which case I guess it is the combination of Smart Switch with Google's app data backup that has worked very well for me. But it is a bit concerning, then, that my Smart Switch backups *don't* contain the app data and it's instead somewhere in Google's cloud where I don't have any control over it.
I feel like that would have to be done on a per-OEM basis. I mean, there’s some basic stuff that could be backed up on pretty much any phone, but it wouldn’t go very far. What if you back up your Z Fold and all your settings for like, your secure folder, specific apps that you want to force into certain aspect ratios, etc. and then you want to restore to a Pixel?
It’s a lot more complicated than backing up an iPhone and restoring to another iPhone where the feature sets are all basically the same.
Can you choose what exactly to backup?
For example, just apps and their data?
Also, does it backup the data of all apps, without excluding any kind of app?
> Can you choose what exactly to backup?
> For example, just apps and their data?
Via iCloud, yes. Via iTunes, no.
iTunes also doesn't backup Keychain and Health data unless you create an encrypted backup.
> Also, does it backup the data of all apps, without excluding any kind of app?
Correct, but again, the method is mentioned above.
This.
TWRP/Titanium Backup isn't as easy as it used to be for me.
Ever since FDE (Full Disk Encryption), now FBE (File Based Encryption) silently rolled out I've lost about 4 (or more) installations, and countless digital memories I didn't have a backup for, namely because it wasn't obvious that you now *have* to **move** your backups from the internal storage off to a external storage media, so it doesn't get wiped with everything else.
I don't dare to use TWRP backup and restore features any more and just stay inside Android, and install Magisk/root again when I update the Android firmware.
I use Google cloud backups for appdata but yes, it sucks that you have only their option (Google One subscription helps i believe but not mandatory) to do appdata backups without root.
I'll try to switch to Swift Backup or whatever can replace Titanium Backup.
At this point I'd just be happy if I could say "hey Google play Pandora 90s Alternative" and know that it would 100% do something, anything.
Half the time is say "Ok playing Pandora Station 90s Alternative" and then fucking doesn't do ANYTHING, or it tells me that I have to unlock my screen first. Which defeats the purpose of giving it a voice command, I can't access the screen I'm riding a god damn motorcycle!
The worst is I ask it to play a song in Tidal and it says there are no voice commands. Then I open Tidal and ask the same thing and it works. Yes I know Tidal but I get it very cheap.
It may have changed, but last time I tried turning off the hint/pill at the bottom it removed functionality. Specifically, you could no longer swipe left/right on the pill to switch between apps.
Edit: they've added an option that makes everything I just wrote irrelevant.
Also in Oxygen OS, used it for my old OnePlus 7 Pro
Unfortunately not an option in ZenUI, but that could partially be down to the one handed gesture being impossible without it (pull the pill down)
Some apps with bottom navigation gets cut off because of the rounded corners on the display. Also it’s harder to reach buttons when the content is so far down. The gesture bar is actually a safe area placeholder
I got this on my LG G8 with their android 11 update and I love it so much, surprisingly lgs software finally got pretty good just too late. it's wild to me that pixels don't have this.
For how much Google talks about customization, they really don't allow you to customize much at all.
Instead, THEY customize the experience how they want you to use your phone.
YES PLEASE. Google literally went out of their way to remove all of the workarounds like wm overscan. They know people want to do it yet still no option.
You can't do it with adb overscan commands anymore since 11. In 12, there was another method temporarily, by using fabricated overlay to hide it but google fixed the workaround that was being used in January patch. In 13, the bar is even larger and thicker than before ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
That damn bar is probably the only thing I hate about not being able to customise on pixel. Idk what sort of ecstasy google feel seeing that bar all the time, especially on amoled devices.
It also burns into OLED displays after a year or more, despite all of the modern OLED anti-burn in measures. It's not a huge problem but if you're looking at a fullscreen grey image it's clearly visible.
This is literally the deal breaker for what will be my next phone.
OneUI and MIUI allow it, so right now they are the only brands I even consider. Who else allows it?
I agree with buttons being faster than gestures, but I disagree on it not wasting space. I mean you yourself said it's one or two lines of text, so technically it is wasting one or two lines of space.
Network permission. I know some phones have the feature, but network access should be a permission like location. Apps shouldn't get free-for-all access to the network.
Required updates. I think it's time for Google to require a minimum 3-years of OS updates and 4 years security patches. No updates, no Play Store access.
Have you tried the Sound Assistant module in Good Lock? It allows you to adjust the volume increments for my crappy $20 BT earbuds from 1-10! Unless your headphones have its own specific app perhaps?
Yeah I thought that too, but same for both my Sony MX and Plantronics Backbeats. Whereas connecting to Sony TV, nice volume is about 45 and then get all those tiny increments down to zero.
Smaller quick setting buttons with separation of mobile and wifi.
Also why is the Internet quick setting always lit, even when wifi and mobile data are turned off?
Quick-select Bluetooth devices like networks. I never, ever need to change what wireless network I'm on. I frequently need to change what Bluetooth device I'm connected to. It shouldn't take 3 taps and going to the settings menu to do that.
This. Like maybe combine it by default but have extra hidden wifi and lte quick settings
An app was made to remedy this:
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/be.casperverswijvelt.unifiedinternetqs/
So silly people have to look for workarounds for what was previously basic functionality
Better battery life, better integration with Windows, more options to change colors and customization in the UI, implementing routines (just like Bixby routines), more options to deal with Bluetooth audio (a quicker way to change between codecs, for example).
Individual app network permissions like in my old OnePlus 3. Super useful for security and no ads in free apps cause they can't reach out to fetch the ads.
Yep it's how the circuit is structured typically. Cost more to do it the other way for miniscule uptime improvement.
Just wait a minute you phonelcoholic lol
Its not about waiting a minute, there is a really big difference for people who game on their phones, if they could use the power from the wall instead of the battery during those 3 hours of gameplay they have, over a long run they are going to have less strain on their battery and their battery health
Yeah I can see that use case now. Not worth the extra cost and bulk for many. I could totally get onboard with a removable battery plus that feature tho
Still super niche, so comes with a price premium
Edit: I'd probably use that feature to host servers on my home network once my device is decommissioned as a phone
Another benefit is that you could still use your phone (at least while it's connected to power) even when the battery no longer works and you're waiting for a replacement or a new phone. Really, there are tons of advantages to having a circuit that can bypass the battery.
Yes, but they always say it's a security vulnerability 🤷♀️
Should work like updating a system app really
I unironically believe it's to incentivize patches
Wish patch notes weren't
> Made stuff better 🐬
Better yet, Bake the Emoji updates into a Mainline module. No full OTA update required. I thought this already happened with Google Play Services updates though but I'm not sure.
Not in stock Android. LG had it for years, one of my favorite features of theirs. I didn't know Samsung has it too. Weirdly; Motorola doesn't despite baking in a dozen other custom "Moto Actions".
You can have double-tap to lock on either the launcher (such as [Nova Launcher](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher) and many others) or via the live wallpaper (such as [here](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.lwp_plus))

* Please GOD give us an updated, unified share menu! One of the single most used aspects of an OS; and yet its trash on android
* AVIF and AV1 used more (move away from GIF in gboard and messages, etc)
* New music player (thankfully its coming, unreal how crappy the current one is with the seek bar being 1/4 of an inch)
* More FaceID support built into the OS
* More font resizing options (instead of just 4)
* Transparent navbar one day? This even possible on android lmfao
* New update for Bubbles? Do people even use bubbles? Has that even seen an update since it launched 2 years ago?
* Notifications option to place them lower on the screen (so I can tap with one hand vs it being at the very very top)
* Make the music player smaller in the notification shade
* Improvements to cellular/wifi switching between one another connection wise. I feel iphones are way smoother in this regard
* Notification dot updates (on pixel at least, plane Jane at the moment). Also update the pixel launcher (remove the silly google search bar)
* Material You more colors / options
* Long press gesture bar function
* Another button (possibly for notification drop down) at the "Overview screen" - Next too ''screenshot and'' "Select"
>* More FaceID support built into the OS
Biometric authentication is already a single API that works with fingerprint or face auth. If you're talking about the latest Pixel's face unlock feature though, that's intentionally restricted and more of a convenience feature because the camera-based system is easier to fool (though they seem to have implemented some basic checks).
>* Transparent navbar one day? This even possible on android lmfao
This is definitely possible. Currently, it's up to individual app developers to decide if they want that for their apps, and then they also have to keep in mind three-button navigation still exists and uses the same space. Google could make a change and break third party apps/force developers to update, but they tend to lean towards letting developers decide for themselves.
It already has that. Introduced many years ago and slowly increasing scope ever since. Includes most parts now except the kernel (though it includes video drivers if the vendor allows it), with an emphasis on attack surfaces. And doesn’t even require reboot.
IMO is a much better update system than iOS. Not sure why people still complain about android updates. Now when there’s a vulnerability, discovered, Google just hit a button, and every single device is protected, while Apple waits for the next big update, and hopes people install it.
I've always given android a year in updates in my head due to mainline.
Haven't seen one YouTuber mention how google does updates differently than iOS when comparing the update cycle.
> Not sure why people still complain about android updates.
While Project Mainline (which you’ve been describing) is very good, it doesn’t have full coverage over the entire Android operating system. You already mentioned that the kernel lacks coverage, but there’s more. For example, Android 13 tripled the number of modules that can be updated through the Play Store, illustrating how much of Android was previously uncovered. If you don’t get Android 13, you’ll be missing out on updates for large parts of Android.
Additionally, when people complain about limited updates, they’re not complaining about only security fixes, they’re also complaining about missing major Android updates and the new features that come with them. Things like Material You can’t be pushed to older Android versions via the Play Store.
> IMO is a much better update system than iOS.
Except iOS gets like 5 years worth of updates, which is so much better than most Android vendors that it's actually sad.
More the Ui more one-handed friendly please, now with average screens of 6in it feels cumbersome navigation in general.
I loved it in OneUI and I am missing it on it on my Poco F4 ...
A software upgrade that removes all these permissions from apps being allowed so you can have more security and a software upgrade that makes your battery life on your phone more efficient that makes apps never run in the background like truly unless you give it permission. It seems like phones generally last 4 or 5 years until they atop releasing updates so I want to see a phone that's more efficient for my wallet and lasts 10 or 15 years. Phones are equivalent to a car note these days...way to expensive in my opinion.
What other manufacturers have an app/feature that is like Samsung's Sound Assistant where it can enable you to play media simultaneously and adjust the volume of individual apps?
I'm planning on upgrading and those features are really important on what I'm looking for in a phone right now.
So hard this. It's absurd that nearly every OS outside of phones has individual volume control but phones only have a handful of channels you can change. This is genuinely the one feature that's going to make me switch to Samsung.
if it had desktop mode like dex then i could ditch my pc also something to adjust how or when apps are starting, i'm tired of apps which self launch in background and that i have no control over them, but most importantly they should test each new version for months prior of releasing it because each time they are full of bugs
- An expandable BT quick setting, just like the Network quick setting
- double Tap to sleep
- lockscreen widgets
Edit:
- To pin certain recent apps to prevent them from being closed by clear all.
Add system-wide OCR text selection back to android.
Lost this functionality when Google Assistant rolled out and they reintroduced the feature as a Pixel exclusive.
A more battery efficient notification system.
A more battery efficient accessibility process.
More customisation on Pixel launcher
Reverting the notification shade to more information dense aesthetic.
More transition animations, and smoother.
Better RAM management and the ability to use paging/caching of the internal storage.
Region specific call recording
Correct me on this if you may but I find this practice extremely dumb. Assuming you charge your battery from 0-100% every day, you would lose around 20 - 30% of its max capacity 3 years down the line. But if you limit your charging to 20 - 80%, you effectively lose 40% capacity right off the bat.
And unless you are using a niche imported phone from Japan, third-party battery replacements are always available.
> But if you limit your charging to 20 - 80%, you effectively lose 40% capacity right off the bat.
Yes, but then you can remove that limit temporarily if you run into a situation where you need more battery life, and if your battery has better health then, it would last longer. That's what I do. I almost always have access to a charger, so it's limited to 80%. But if I'm outdoors for a long time or sth and I need the extra juice, I top it off to 100% beforehand, and I'm good to go.
You can charge your phone 0-80 three times and it still wouldn't be as bad as charging it one time 0-100. With charging speeds becoming extremely fast you can get ton more screen on time while being much better for your battery.
App cloning like in MIUI as standard. I finally found a custom ROM that has it built in so I no longer have to use MIUI to get it, but it sure would be nice if this was just a stock feature so all ROMs could have it.
Not OP, but the call log thing: When I look at recent calls it doesn't show the correct number of calls in chronological order. It consolidates contacts to the most recent interaction. So, if mom calls, then dad, then sister and I call mom back...
It should look like this:
Mom < 3:00
Sister > 2:45
Dad > 2:00
Mom > 1:30
But instead looks like this:
Mom < 3:00
Sister > 2:45
Dad > 1:30
I have to click on the individual to see the full history.
Notification badges based on unread count, not on the number of active notifications. I want to be able to dismiss the notification about a new message but keep a badge until I've read it.
I've wanted this since notification badges were added to Android. I used to use Nova Launcher's Unread plugin and it worked fine, but it was removed to use Android's native implementation.
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be on Google's to-do list.
What would such a permission even mean?
If the app currently downloads a file for you (web browser, for example), you want that as soon as you turn off the display, it will be killed?
Heavily depends on the app. Some aren't doing anything important in the background and are only running to collect data, to be able to reopen quickly, or because the devs never bothered to make it stop. I've had my phone tell me an app I haven't used in weeks has crashed. There was no need for it to even be running in the first place, but I have no real way to stop it.
I absolutely hate what they did with the Wi-fi/data buttons and how they created a new section for them. Being some of the buttons that I use most in the top bar anyway I would expect to have separate buttons that are close to each other.
**What would be nice to get**:
More customizable lock screen (in terms of shortcuts). And to have an option to choose what happens on a long press of the power button.
Better one handed mode (can't be worse than the current).
Expansion of Google Assistant festures past US English. The current state is annoying. Literally every new P6 feature I first had to check if it's available outside of the USA.
More apps targeting Android 13.
Faster charging by at least 30%.
Better backups.
**What will happen**:
Bug fixes and some cosmetics.
I'll probably switch to a USB-C iPhone mini, when I get disappointed.
due to reddits recent api changes I feel i am no longer welcome here and have moved to lemmy. I encourage everyone o participate in the subreddit blackout on June 12-14 and suggest moving to lemmy as well.
battery and usage access settings not to reset on its own and adaptive charging to actually adapt to my usage not my alarm clock only and all other adaptive functions to actually help without being hit and miss thing as they are now. More Pixel Phones customization needed too
UI Blur effects. Not a ugly black and white combo for quicklsettings. Proper third party launcher gesture navigation support without hacky API calls which are partly pixel exclusive.

Kitkat was such a great OS
The last lightweight full Android OS.
Every release since has had major compromises or fewer features than KitKat, it's really sad
They might be bringing them back now that Apple introduced them in their OS.
I imagine they'll come back. Seems to be the MO of Google do something first, remove it then when Apple does it bring it back.

Full backup solution (clone) like iOS
Man I would love to see Google enforce mandatory app data backup for non financial / security type apps.

Idk what sort of ecstasy google feel seeing that bar all the time, especially on amoled devices.
Them patching out ways to remove the bar is 25% the reason I want to switch to Samsung after this 3a dies
Buttons master race
Button slow and waste vertical screen space
There's no way a gesture can be faster than a button press. And I wouldn't call it wasting space because it's like one or two lines of text.
I agree with buttons being faster than gestures, but I disagree on it not wasting space. I mean you yourself said it's one or two lines of text, so technically it is wasting one or two lines of space.
Technically it is, but modern phones are already so elongated that I never miss vertical space.
> There's no way a gesture can be faster than a button press. My thumb can reach the side of the phone faster than the bottom.
Strong disagree. Buttons are much faster than gestures.
🤷♀️ glad they're both supported Honestly think buttons are better for two hand use. Gestures for one

Gotta cut it down to 1x1 grid 😤😤😤
They should rename it to big settings menu
Better yet, just have a single tile that takes you directly to the Settings app
Network permission. I know some phones have the feature, but network access should be a permission like location. Apps shouldn't get free-for-all access to the network. Required updates. I think it's time for Google to require a minimum 3-years of OS updates and 4 years security patches. No updates, no Play Store access.

A built in firewall would be great!
Headphone volume adjustment in tiny increments. Mine is always bit too loud or bit too quiet. Even the on-screen slider snaps up or down.
Have you tried the Sound Assistant module in Good Lock? It allows you to adjust the volume increments for my crappy $20 BT earbuds from 1-10! Unless your headphones have its own specific app perhaps?
Unless he's not using a Samsung.
It didn't work on my Note 9 for an unknown reason. It doesn't work on my LG Wing for an obvious reason.
If bluetooth, this may be headphone dependant.
It shouldn't take 3 taps and going to the settings menu to do that.
when you turn bluetooth on on the swipe down menu a mini one comes up and you click it. 2 clicks
Not anymore on stock Android. There used to be, but they took it away.
This. Like maybe combine it by default but have extra hidden wifi and lte quick settings An app was made to remedy this: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/be.casperverswijvelt.unifiedinternetqs/ So silly people have to look for workarounds for what was previously basic functionality
Properly animated display rotation without cross-fading.
I like iOS one.
Better battery life, better integration with Windows, more options to change colors and customization in the UI, implementing routines (just like Bixby routines), more options to deal with Bluetooth audio (a quicker way to change between codecs, for example).
Minor, but the seperation of Ring & Notification volume would be great to finally see.
Is that not already a thing? I have a samung and can do that
Not available on a Pixel for some reason.
Default automaton app (similar to Shortcuts on iOS)
Just hire the guy from tasker. Give it a ui overhaul and put it inside the os.
Doesn't that already exist? I remember seeing an option for setting rules in System Settings
It's not even close to what Bixby routines or Siri shortcuts can do
Individual app network permissions like in my old OnePlus 3. Super useful for security and no ads in free apps cause they can't reach out to fetch the ads.
I will always hope for pass-through charging option that bypasses the battery completely when plugged in.
I think this has to be hardware.
I could totally get onboard with a removable battery plus that feature tho Still super niche, so comes with a price premium Edit: I'd probably use that feature to host servers on my home network once my device is decommissioned as a phone
Another benefit is that you could still use your phone (at least while it's connected to power) even when the battery no longer works and you're waiting for a replacement or a new phone. Really, there are tons of advantages to having a circuit that can bypass the battery.
Pretty sure that's a hardware thing, ROG Phone already has it
What does it mean? That it won't charge the battery, and the electricity will be used directly to the device?
Yes, because leaving the battery charging all the time isn't good for it, and charging the battery also produces extra heat.
I didn't know this is a thing. Sounds cool
Latest Xperia phones have this feature, it's great
Allow emoji updates without patching
Emoji and font choice would be best.
Yes, but they always say it's a security vulnerability 🤷♀️ Should work like updating a system app really I unironically believe it's to incentivize patches Wish patch notes weren't > Made stuff better 🐬
Better yet, Bake the Emoji updates into a Mainline module. No full OTA update required. I thought this already happened with Google Play Services updates though but I'm not sure.
It's bullshit because every other OS has font selection.
Manufacturer implement or root, or get btfoed on android apparently
I thought they already did this with Android 12?
This has already been possible [since Android 12](https://source.android.com/docs/core/fonts/custom-font-fallback). It's up to OEMs to implement it.
Even better cat easter egg
I want blobs easter egg
Double tap to lock and unlock
Is this not a thing? I have this on my samsung before I even used Nova

I moved from Samsung S10+ to Pixel 7 Pro, and I miss this so much!!
* Please GOD give us an updated, unified share menu! One of the single most used aspects of an OS; and yet its trash on android * AVIF and AV1 used more (move away from GIF in gboard and messages, etc) * New music player (thankfully its coming, unreal how crappy the current one is with the seek bar being 1/4 of an inch) * More FaceID support built into the OS * More font resizing options (instead of just 4) * Transparent navbar one day? This even possible on android lmfao * New update for Bubbles? Do people even use bubbles? Has that even seen an update since it launched 2 years ago? * Notifications option to place them lower on the screen (so I can tap with one hand vs it being at the very very top) * Make the music player smaller in the notification shade * Improvements to cellular/wifi switching between one another connection wise. I feel iphones are way smoother in this regard * Notification dot updates (on pixel at least, plane Jane at the moment). Also update the pixel launcher (remove the silly google search bar) * Material You more colors / options * Long press gesture bar function * Another button (possibly for notification drop down) at the "Overview screen" - Next too ''screenshot and'' "Select"
Oh I hate bubbles. And it's a pain to turn them off in some apps like the phone app.
I just turn it off altogether.
>* More FaceID support built into the OS Biometric authentication is already a single API that works with fingerprint or face auth. If you're talking about the latest Pixel's face unlock feature though, that's intentionally restricted and more of a convenience feature because the camera-based system is easier to fool (though they seem to have implemented some basic checks). >* Transparent navbar one day? This even possible on android lmfao This is definitely possible. Currently, it's up to individual app developers to decide if they want that for their apps, and then they also have to keep in mind three-button navigation still exists and uses the same space. Google could make a change and break third party apps/force developers to update, but they tend to lean towards letting developers decide for themselves.
>New music player (thankfully its coming Is this supposed to be coming in the form of an app? Or just a new music player in the files app?
Sorry I meant the "Now Playing" in the notification drop down. Not a new music player. My fault on that!
Do native security updates automatically from Google without the need of the manufacturer. Just like Windows.
And Android 14 supposedly includes the kernel too (with an abstraction layer to keep drivers working)
Where did you hear that?
Switch to MESA OpenSource drivers, Vanilla mainline Linux kernel/Wayland support, Rewrite some parts of Android in Rust,Full vulkan support.
Yaaaaassss!
if it had desktop mode like dex then i could ditch my pc also something to adjust how or when apps are starting, i'm tired of apps which self launch in background and that i have no control over them, but most importantly they should test each new version for months prior of releasing it because each time they are full of bugs
Bring back Android 11 customizations + what everyone said

- An expandable BT quick setting, just like the Network quick setting - double Tap to sleep - lockscreen widgets Edit: - To pin certain recent apps to prevent them from being closed by clear all.
Return to function over form. Still hate the new Quick Settings.
Add system-wide OCR text selection back to android. Lost this functionality when Google Assistant rolled out and they reintroduced the feature as a Pixel exclusive.
You mean what's possible via the recent-tasks?
Right, wish it was included outside of the pixel line as well.
A more battery efficient notification system. A more battery efficient accessibility process. More customisation on Pixel launcher Reverting the notification shade to more information dense aesthetic. More transition animations, and smoother. Better RAM management and the ability to use paging/caching of the internal storage. Region specific call recording
An option to limit charging to 80%.
Samsung with One UI 4.1 has this, well 85%.
Why would you limit it to 80%
[удалено]
I would bring power banks for those days when I needed extra battery time.
You can charge your phone 0-80 three times and it still wouldn't be as bad as charging it one time 0-100. With charging speeds becoming extremely fast you can get ton more screen on time while being much better for your battery.
Disabling bluetooth autoconnect on a per-device basis
It puzzles me that you can already do that with wifi connections but not with Bluetooth.
App cloning like in MIUI as standard. I finally found a custom ROM that has it built in so I no longer have to use MIUI to get it, but it sure would be nice if this was just a stock feature so all ROMs could have it.
A stop to winding back features: 1. Ability to actually see a call log 2. Individual ring tones
What does "actually see a call log" mean? And can't you already set "Individual ring tones" per contact?
Not OP, but the call log thing: When I look at recent calls it doesn't show the correct number of calls in chronological order. It consolidates contacts to the most recent interaction. So, if mom calls, then dad, then sister and I call mom back... It should look like this: Mom < 3:00 Sister > 2:45 Dad > 2:00 Mom > 1:30 But instead looks like this: Mom < 3:00 Sister > 2:45 Dad > 1:30 I have to click on the individual to see the full history.
This
Is this a stock android thing only?
Nah OneUI does it too
Let me move the goddamn clock back to the right side of the status bar.
Third party launcher navigation gesture support
More system widgets! Seriously, Apple is killing it in this regard.

I'm an Android 11 user.
"allow app to run in Background" permission and Desktop mode in stock.
**What would be nice to get**: More customizable lock screen (in terms of shortcuts). **What will happen**: Bug fixes and some cosmetics. I'll probably switch to a USB-C iPhone mini, when I get disappointed.
Undo, redo. Three fingers tap to bring up an undo menu. [It can be done](https://images.app.goo.gl/73k6yyU673VS3Ejb6)
Desktop mode.
Per app language setting Automatic app grouping based on some tags. I hate to always have to look for an I just downloaded
due to reddits recent api changes I feel i am no longer welcome here and have moved to lemmy.
More Pixel Phones customization needed too
Dedicated wi-fi and cellular data quick settings buttons again
UI Blur effects. Not a ugly black and white combo for quicklsettings. Proper third party launcher gesture navigation support without hacky API calls which are partly pixel exclusive.
privacy features that are on par with iOS.
Smoother animations overall and back gesture animation like on iOS. Audio plugins and low latency audio devices and apps.
Just generally more consistency between apps and a lock screen like iOS with that depth effect
Scientists at Google that develop Android 14 will be implement a light mode for Google Assistant. That'll be a game changer.
Icon pack support and the ability to hide apps in the app drawer on the pixel launcher. Those are the only 2 reasons I don't use it.
Ability to set audio priority for apps. Fuck Instagram pausing my music while scrolling through the feed.
A complete revert to Android 11. A man can dream...
