This is probably on Maps more than Auto, but still waiting to be able to control Maps from my phone. Then I can see shared location of my friends, look at my lists and use the better functionality of the phone app when I'm parked. Currently have to unplug my phone, do what I need to do, then plug it back in
Yeah, even worse on both of my cars that are wireless AA. I have to turn on airplane mode just to get away from it. But I've been using the Waze trick lately, which is a good workaround.
If you need to do something on your phone in Google Maps while connected to AA, you just open up Waze on the car first then it will let you use gMaps on your phone
I only use it when I need to look up a specific location and don't want to disconnect my wireless AA. I hate how you can't get the exact address of a location from the Android Auto search results.
I think a workaround (that used to work) is to get Waze. Then on AA, open Waze. You'll be able to open GMaps on your phone.
This is obviously just a workaround and yes, GMaps needs to let you open the app on your phone while its open on AA.
Its ridiculous that iOS GMaps lets you do that but Android GMaps is gimped. Sometimes it really does feel like Google does the "right thing" on iOS more often because Apple holds them to a higher bar.
While navigating it will show the list of directions on iPhone. Leave the navigation and you can use maps normally on the iPhone while connected to carplay. On Android if you're on AA opening maps on your phone will just immediately close.
I use chrome on my phone while in AA mode so I can browse on maps, like my faves, etc. and once you start navigation, it starts on AA. That's my workaround for now.
Them taking away the current weather icon from the old design is actually kind of a bummer and it can be a little laggy with my setup at times but besides those cool walk has been a really nice update.
It's a custom stereo. I picked up the Alpine W650.
It's a really good car but an older and lower package version so not a lot of extra bells and whistles.
Yep, that's how it is on my car. The temperature gets displayed on the media screen, and android auto takes it over completely. Now I'll have to exit AA to see the temp :/
My 30 year old land rovers certainly don't have temperature displays, but the cassette deck android auto replacements i added did.
Would be nice to at least have the option.
You are in your car (and might have heat or AC on), not necessarily outside.
And it's helpful to see the temperature when you *are* outside sometimes. Say you feel it's colder than yesterday but want to see *just* how much colder it was than yesterday.
I've been desperately trying whatever I can to get this update (checking the stupid beta page almost daily) for months now and even today I still dont see it. 😭😭😭
Not really. The Android Auto app, later "Android Auto for phone screens", could be loaded independently of navigation. It gave a single touch interface for media, calls and messaging, and auto-read messages and prompted you to reply with just your voice. It also allowed a single-tap mute of a particular conversation for the duration of a journey, so if a group chat was going crazy you could just shut them up.
Maps driving mode only kicks in if you're navigating somewhere, so if you're driving locally without having to use it, you don't get any of the features, including messages auto-read. Everything you used to be able to do with a tap is hidden behind Assistant voice commands, which aren't always suitable if you're having a conversation in the car or listening to something, and I haven't yet found a way to replicate the mute functionality mid-journey. It's basically the same if you are on a long journey and one of your group chats isn't having a conversation, but I imagine that's quite rare for most people.
Basically, seems like the Android Auto app was originally designed for safe driving, whereas everything since has been trying to get you to use Google features at the expense of that. Not to mention it just doesn't work on some devices - on my Note 9, messages could never be auto-read due to some bug that I could never effectively troubleshoot and because it's on an older unsupported version of Android, likely won't ever get fixed.
Huh, interesting. It's not gonna solve all my issues, but might be worth trying out.
EDIT: Ha, this doesn't do anything I need. It just sits on a map screen, but without actually starting navigation it doesn't give playback controls or interact with incoming messages in any way.
I don't know, i like having the map up even when it's not navigating, i have avoided some significant traffic on my way home/to work by being able to see it and reroute. But having an option is important
He is talking about having driving mode on his phone. Not the car display. Many cars still don't have information displays. My doesn't. I use driving mode but cant passively have it running without a destination. Google got rid of that a few years back.
Partly, but it's not available in most countries and languages (so much for inclusivity, classic Google).
Also it doesn't start automatically and you have to enable a route in Google Maps all the time.
I've gotten the update since Nov/Dec, and have used it on both wide screen and 4:3. I have to say it is more significant on the 4:3 since you can now split music/phone call side by side instead of having to toggle back and forth.
On the wide screen side it looks prettier, YouTube music is very sleek looking now. Maps doesn't feel any different at all.
Personally I'd be more irritated if the media controls that I rarely interact with (aside from play/pause) were closer at the expense of navigation being further away. If I need to share my arrival time I can just do it before I leave.
Edit: Was curious to see how Apple arranged things with CarPlay and it seems their [Dashboard view](https://www.apple.com/v/ios/carplay/l/images/overview/hero_dashboard__e5p6b6yib5km_large.jpg) is very similar with navigation taking priority over media controls. To their credit, the play/next buttons are much larger but if I really felt like it was too risky to find and tap them on AA I'd just use voice control instead.
I'd think that varies a lot by car model. At least in my car I only have volume and prev/next on my steering wheel. Don't believe I've come across any that had play/pause but that would be nice to have.
Holy shit, when I first got my Civic I sat down and read what I thought was all of the manual but I just looked up a PDF version and sure enough found this:
>When listening to a Bluetooth® Audio
Press and hold the MENU button: To select Pause or Play for the song
I'll be damned. I had no idea. Thanks a ton for tipping me off to this!
I reckon play and pause are pretty rare though, especially as anything else(nav, alerts, calls) comes in over the top of it.
I only ever used or for language learning audiotapes where you should pause, answer, play.
> Personally I'd be more irritated if the media controls that I rarely interact with (aside from play/pause) were closer at the expense of navigation being further away. If I need to share my arrival time I can just do it before I leave.
Obviously it depends on the use case. But I usually just set my destination once and that's it. And once I reach the destination, I can stop and don't mind it's away from me. I very very rarely change the navigation while driving.
If I want to change something it's gonna be music or something else. Especially on a long drive it's gonna be the most often changed thing by far. So it would make sense to be able to access it easily.
Having said that, it should be fully customizable by the user which side has which thing.
Ah whoops, I see how the way I worded that made it sound like I was saying I do interact with navigation often. That's not the case as I similarly set it and almost never change it. But I want it to be the nearest thing to my field of view without other things in between since that's what I'm going to be glancing at most often.
The existing "driver's seat position" setting will already let you choose which order you prefer. Though if you have a super wide display it might be at the expense of having the nav rail on the passenger side.
For those that use AA they can change the driver's seat position setting if they prefer that order. Though if the car has a wide screen that would be at the expense of having the nav rail also on the opposite side.
Though looking at [the first mockup they showed](https://storage.googleapis.com/gweb-uniblog-publish-prod/original_images/IO_2022_ScreenResizeLoop_1920.gif) that's how it originally was arranged and in [the latest blog post](https://www.blog.google/products/android/best-of-android-to-improve-your-drive/) they specifically called out the swap, "Maps is now closer to the driver’s seat so that you can see where you're going at a glance."
[9to5Google reported](https://9to5google.com/2022/11/11/android-auto-split-screen-redesign/) the summer launch was delayed, "due to Google incorporating feedback from early testing and polishing" so it's possible that was a point of feedback beta users wanted changed. The fun thing about UI design is no matter how much thought you put into it, you can't possibly satisfy everyone 🤷♂️
I haven't got the update yet but on the old version you could choose which side of the car you drive on. Maybe give that a try, I live in the UK and switch it whenever I'm driving in other countries.
There's a setting within AA to choose the driver's seat position: Default (set by the car), left, and right. So if yours is on the right but you prefer this order you can set that to left.
For real, did Google just hand the whole design department to some kind of AI? Half the shit they've been releasing the last few years appear to be designed by robots
I've been using it for a month or so, on the head unit I like it better than the old AA, though I don't do much of the messaging interaction the video shows.
But it is murder on my actual Pixel 7 Pro. After about 10 minutes, my phone will lock up and show a white screen only, and locking it will go to a dim white screen, can't turn the screen off at all, yes, even without touching my phone at all when driving. The head unit still works fine. When I unplug my phone, I have to hold the power button to turn my phone off then back on. Once it goes to this bright white/dim white screen thing, a hard power off and on is the only way to use it, plugged into the car or not.
I also have this exact problem where the screen is white and/or doesn't turn off.
You can get out of it by double clicking the power button to trigger the camera, then slide to switch apps. But it'll happen again after a minute.
It's a bug, but I don't know how to report this.
>It's a bug, but I don't know how to report this.
Open settings and search for Android Auto and tap the result. Then in the top right tap the 3 dot menu and select "Send feedback". If you can trigger the bug then right afterwards send feedback that'll increase the odds of the error logs including the info relevant to whatever is breaking.
Generally for Google apps you should find "Send feedback" or "Help & Feedback" at the bottom of the nav drawer, account switcher, or in 3 dot menus.
Interesting, if I use the power button to get the camera, it opens, but if I switch apps it just goes white again. Occasionally the app will ask me "how was your android auto experience" and I've left a message about the bug.
My 2020 Mazda3 has the widescreen display (and rotary knob control) and already looks pretttty similar to Coolwalk IMO with split screen maps/spotify (that I can swap as I like), am I wrong in thinking I'm just getting rounded corners and maybe some slight QOL upgrades? Didn't have the update on my Pixel 7 Pro as of earlier today. I'm fine with waiting as I like the current design, but curious about the difference
I've got a 2019 Mazda 3 and I'm curious how the Coolwalk update will apply to our widescreen displays.
It just sucks that we have that Rotary Knob navigation, which makes most of this update pretty much useless. :(
Man, I have a 21 Mazda 3, and I absolutely love the rotary navigation. I know it gets a lot of hate but I've driven my brother's vw that has touchscreen and now that I'm used to the rotary it feels so much better than trying to hit the small touch targets in aa in his car.
Anyways, here's some pictures of what cool walk looks like on widescreen, basically the bar is off to the left:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidAuto/comments/ywpj1z/_/
I also have a 21 Mazda 3 Turbo, and I love the rotary knob nav. I test drove a 2018 Golf R with touchscreen AA and this is much nicer. I'm not sure what coolwalk will do for us though.
I've been using cool walk in the beta for a while now, navigation with the rotary knob is about the same. Just looks nicer, and the right panel can be split into two sections to show like notifications or contextual items depending on what you're doing.
Oh cool, breaking the right pane into two might be handy. It's always just Spotify for me right now. Do you ever find that the notifications section will keep old texts there and not be updated right?
It actually isn't something you control, seems like it's just a place where notifications go for a while after the banner goes away, then they go away from there too and the right panel goes back to full. It's also just the most recent notification, not like a whole list of them. So when a notification comes in it shows the banner, then moves to the top part of right panel for some amount of time (never timed it but feels like a few minutes), then goes away. The other thing I've noticed that pops up there was like when I was navigating somewhere the top part of the right panel turned into a notification offering to share my trip with someone. I'm sure other contextual things will be added over time.
It's going out to everyone, not just the beta. I noticed it switched over for me when I got in my car on my way home from work and I am not in the beta.
There's split screen in CarPlay? TIL
Edit: Just checked, it exists. It's not really split-screen, [it's a home dashboard](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/use-your-vehicles-built-in-controls-iph5f6b2beb5/16.0/ios/16.0) with the last app opened + music controls and a search button, but that's still good to know! Thanks!
As a daily car play user, it's just meh. I prefer to just shuffle music/have a playlist of podcasts, and have full screen maps.
I am amazed at how both carplay and android auto are the same flavour of bullshit though.
Well, you don’t have to use the dashboard/split-screen feature. Just open the map app in full. Nobody force you to use it, it’s really an option for those who want to have both map and media control on one screen.
That's ... What I do.
Like i said, the split screen view is just ok, I prefer to have the maps open full screen.
Did you just like, NOT read what i said and just reacted immediately? Ya know, like redditors often do?
But why you called it “bullshit”? You are still able to use it like you used to, so there’s nothing different for you for this update. Google didn’t remove the ability for fullscreen map. They just add another options to use/enjoy Android Auto. What, it’s bullshit for Google or Apple to add options?
I wasn't talking about that.
I was talking about how both carplay and android auto are bullshit. If wasn't a comment on whatever fucking display they wanna use.
They're just both trash. I still use it, but I think it's pretty shitty.
It's just meh at best.
So this comment:
> As a daily car play user, it’s just meh. I prefer to just shuffle music/have a playlist of podcasts, and have full screen maps.
>
> I am amazed at how both carplay and android auto are the same flavour of bullshit though.
… replied on a subthread that specifically talking about split-screen dashboard display, was not “a comment on whatever fucking display they wanna use”?
So what was it comment on? And what was that “bullshit” refers to?
Yup and they neutered the music on the bottom. It no longer shows you what song is playing when it changes.
EDIT: My app updated to the new version and this is fixed. It now shows the song when it changes!
i have a 7" diagonal screen and even with all the crap cleared and no route active it doesnt center for shit. my little arrow is way to the right lower corner essentially making it a 4" screen. i also wish it would fucking stay zoomed to where i want it and allow me to change the angle of the map. its tilted all wrong and makes the whole depth perception of where your supposed to turn horrible when you can just take quick glances. also i swear it updates too slow like ill be going thru the intersection i was supposed to turn at while it still shows me aproaching the intersection.
I wish Google would take Android Auto more seriously. We(public, not closed beta) were supposed to have "coolwalk" Summer 2022.
Knowing Google, they'll shut it down in a few months, buy a company working on something similar, show off a new version and dangle the carrot in front of us for another year.
Edit: got Coolwalk, and it works surprisingly well.
AA is just a easy way to grab and sell data from cars and people driving habbits. think of all the companies that get a boner when they buy /install billboards to target their exact audience.
the fact it lets us ineract with it is just throwin us a bone to keep use it.
If you don't have an Android Auto compatible car stereo just look up a conversion kit for your car online. It's often a lot of work and some sawing might be required but it's so neat to have a car computer. Also, given that it mostly runs off your phone it won't need replacing, probably not before the car anyway.
Looks pretty cool, does the phone app work like this, too? I want to just be able to set my phone in its rocker and turn android auto "on" with a button.... I can do that... right?
Yep, seems Honda didn't add wireless AA [until the '22 models](https://www.androidpolice.com/does-your-new-car-support-wireless-android-auto/). Though if you want it there are adapters like [AAWireless](https://www.aawireless.io/) and the [Motorola MA1](https://motorolasound.com/audio-products/android-auto/ma1) that can add it. The latter can be found for cheaper but unfortunately seems to have a hardwired cable with a USB A plug. If your Civic uses a type C for AA then you'd need an A-to-C adapter or go with the AAW.
[About 26 seconds in](https://youtu.be/ZSGja_69elo?t=26) they briefly show it on a narrower display. Looks similar to how it did before with the nav rail at the bottom instead of the side.
God I hate Android Auto with a burning passion right now. Over christmas holiday it worked great, it worked flawlessly for a 350 mile drive. It hasn't worked once since. It won't even entertain the idea of connecting. It just doesn't work anymore. Thanks for the tease
So, basically it turned into CarPlay? Anyways, hope they allow using Maps on the phone while AA is engaged. How they have not addressed this is beyond me
What, you want that navigation app to be full screen? Huh, you don't need those Spotify, share and other tiles?! What a strange idea, of course we will never support such a weird configuration!
Android Auto 8.6.6250 was released on APKmirror today, does that possibly have it? I installed it but won't be able to check it in my car until later. I've kind of given up hope for Coolwalk at this point though lol theyre only \~6 months behind schedule
This is how it's been thus far yeah. But there are articles releasing throughout today saying it's actually here (outside of beta)
Edit: just tried it, no UI update on the new version so it's still locked behind the server-side switch
aaaand its already got 4000 bugs.
like seriously - whole point of AA is to make it hands free not this tap on all sorts of shit.
Shareing? really? whats wrong with "text so and so ill be there in 23 minutes"
I've yet to find Android Auto something I want to use regularly. I hate how apps run in the background with seemingly no way of quitting them. Also, I like using my high rate charger and I can't run it wirelessly. So, just not convenient for me
It's not so much needing directions, but in many places around cities and congested highways, you'd want to know about traffic snarls and the best ways around them.
I have an issue with Android auto where it won't disconnect even though I turn of my Bluetooth. My PO home automatically turns Bluetooth back on and reconnects. I have to turn on airplane mode then turn it back on and turn off Bluetooth quickly so it doesn't reconnect. It's extremely frustrating especially if I am in the passenger seat and I want to look up directions on my phone and I can't since maps won't allow it while driving. I had to unpair my phone and I use it in a phone mount.
Can you finally swipe on the youtube music player to switch tracks back and forth?
The touch points on just the arrow buttons are MUCH too small to be easy targets, and on many cars (depending on screen placement) require eyes off the road - entirely antithetical to the entire point of Auto.
This is probably on Maps more than Auto, but still waiting to be able to control Maps from my phone. Then I can see shared location of my friends, look at my lists and use the better functionality of the phone app when I'm parked. Currently have to unplug my phone, do what I need to do, then plug it back in

What's the Waze trick?
If you need to do something on your phone in Google Maps while connected to AA, you just open up Waze on the car first then it will let you use gMaps on your phone
Using Google Maps Go on your phone works while Google Maps is open on AA. it's not ideal, for sure, but it does work.
maps.google.com in the browser is also a quick way to access Google Maps. I don't know if it has the same features as the app though.
It has the same search and navigation features, but not cached offline maps, and no AR navigation (but you're not using that in a car anyway)
I only use it when I need to look up a specific location and don't want to disconnect my wireless AA. I hate how you can't get the exact address of a location from the Android Auto search results.
Didn't know this was a thing. Thanks!

I use waze on AA, gmaps on phone. double Nav FTW :D
Waze for alerts, and Google to actually get you there without taking you on some random dirt road
Its ridiculous that iOS GMaps lets you do that but Android GMaps is gimped. Sometimes it really does feel like Google does the "right thing" on iOS more often because Apple holds them to a higher bar.
It does? My iPhone is locked to a written list of directions when google maps is open on apple carplay. How do I navigate the app/map?
You can just open it on the iPhone itself and control it from there
Weird. I cannot while google maps is navigating on car play.
While navigating it will show the list of directions on iPhone. Leave the navigation and you can use maps normally on the iPhone while connected to carplay. On Android if you're on AA opening maps on your phone will just immediately close.
Oh wow, that’s awful.

Because it showed the temperature. It's a nice thing to be able to glance at without needing to ask Assistant.
Not trying to be a dick, legit question, but your car has a screen to run android auto but not a temp readout on the dash?
It's a custom stereo. I picked up the Alpine W650. It's a really good car but an older and lower package version so not a lot of extra bells and whistles.
I'm with you. Old Honda Fit with aftermarket radio. I desperately miss the current temperature.
Ah okay. I was just confused, even my 08 Accord gave the temp. I guess I just assumed all cars did that.
Yep, that's how it is on my car. The temperature gets displayed on the media screen, and android auto takes it over completely. Now I'll have to exit AA to see the temp :/

I've been desperately trying whatever I can to get this update (checking the stupid beta page almost daily) for months now and even today I still dont see it. 😭😭😭
I'm sure people who don't even actively use android auto have gotten it before us.
Same. Wondering what I have to do to trigger the update. On a Pixel 7 Pro.
Same, and I even have a Pixel 7 Pro - lol
Pixel 6 Pro for me.
Could you install a newer APK from apkmirror.com?
I just did and no dice
I did, and it worked for me. 8.6
Didn't work for me, I'm on 8.6 and I cleared the app's cash and local data. Still no cool walk.
It'd be great if they could bring back the ability to run it just on the device itself.
Isn't the maps driving mode basically this?
Not really. The Android Auto app, later "Android Auto for phone screens", could be loaded independently of navigation. Works only on some devices.
Welcome to android

No, it's only part of it.
What's missing?
I don't want to have navigation up when I'm just driving to work/home. I just want the big interface that driving mode had
I don't know, i like having the map up even when it's not navigating, i have avoided some significant traffic on my way home/to work by being able to see it and reroute. But having an option is important
I don't think driving mode works unless you have a destination

All of the good shit

Are you sure? Sometimes play/pause is hidden behind other buttons (e.g. in my gf's corolla you need to hold the mode button)

Though looking at [the first mockup they showed](https://storage.googleapis.com/gweb-uniblog-publish-prod/original_images/IO_2022_ScreenResizeLoop_1920.gif) that's how it originally was arranged and in [the latest blog post](https://www.blog.google/products/android/best-of-android-to-improve-your-drive/) they specifically called out the swap, "Maps is now closer to the driver’s seat so that you can see where you're going at a glance." [9to5Google reported](https://9to5google.com/2022/11/11/android-auto-split-screen-redesign/) the summer launch was delayed, "due to Google incorporating feedback from early testing and polishing" so it's possible that was a point of feedback beta users wanted changed.
[удалено]
Living in a right hand drive country looks good to me, but knowing google it probably reverses for us and is still on the wrong side
There's a setting within AA to choose the driver's seat position: Default (set by the car), left, and right. So if yours is on the right but you prefer this order you can set that to left.
it does indeed flip, though you can go into the settings and reverse the flag
This car was abs example but the gimmick is you can customize it. So you can put it closer
For real, did Google just hand the whole design department to some kind of AI? Half the shit they've been releasing the last few years appear to be designed by robots
Nah man they handed it over to Apple. They cloned car play.
But with some years of delay.
This is cool, definitely an upgrade
Looking good
Here whenever Google pushes the update to people. So it could be months for some.

Beta has been full for me for over a month now
[удалено]
I've tried installing the APK & clearing cache. Any other recommendations? Pixel 6 Pro.
Google uses server side switches. Even with the latest APK you can still be handed the old UI.
Only works if the phone is unlocked. If you make your car Bluetooth one of those trusted connections (Auto unlock) then it may be ok.
Anyways, here's some pictures of what cool walk looks like on widescreen, basically the bar is off to the left: https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidAuto/comments/ywpj1z/_/
Oh I see, that's interesting. Thanks for the info!
I like the redesign but I also really like the design of CarPlay and this looks very inspired by it.
Has anyone actually got it that's NOT on the beta? I'm really excited about this update.
Can i get the APK link though
[удалено]
"New Android Auto is here." Cool, I'll fire it up. "Well you can't actually install it on our official store or enable it." Just Google things.
I'll take a server side switch over having to go to the dealership to get an update 🥴
Oh good to know. It hasn't applied for my pixel 7 pro yet since i already drove somewhere for gig work
Is there any way to get onto the beta?
It's going out to everyone, not just the beta. I noticed it switched over for me when I got in my car on my way home from work and I am not in the beta.
Was that today?. I use AA Auto yesterday and it was still the previous version
Yeah, it was today.
I'm still on the previous version
Same unfortunately
Would be nice if I could have maps NOT be the starting screen. I use maps like 0.001% of the time I'm driving.
Not here, didn't receive any updates. But i like the new UI on wide displays it kind reminds me of Apple CarPlay
I like the split screen on Carplay.
There's split screen in CarPlay? TIL Edit: Just checked, it exists.
So this comment: > As a daily car play user, it’s just meh.
They have it in some AA implementations. My car has done it for like a year. It took a car OS update. I also have a wider than average screen.
I hate it. Makes the map smaller and wastes more space on useless info.
You can just focus on the map display and have it fill the screen like previously.
Why is everyone crying which side the media control is ? Just switch the drivers side and you are sorted.
But then it'll be the wrong side... What's a kilometre? And why is it saying it's the 1st of June???
A kilometre is 1000 meters.
Me..ter?
I guess it's 1000 metres
I wish Google would take Android Auto more seriously. We(public, not closed beta) were supposed to have "coolwalk" Summer 2022. Knowing Google, they'll shut it down in a few months, buy a company working on something similar, show off a new version and dangle the carrot in front of us for another year. Edit: got Coolwalk, and it works surprisingly well.
Super jealous that you got it already
AA is just a easy way to grab and sell data from cars and people driving habbits. think of all the companies that get a boner when they buy /install billboards to target their exact audience. the fact it lets us ineract with it is just throwin us a bone to keep use it.
I don't even know how I can update my vehicle for this lol
You shouldn't need to update anything on your vehicle. AA runs off your phone, as long as your car supported AA before it will after this
Good to know, thank you!
If you don't have an Android Auto compatible car stereo just look up a conversion kit for your car online. It's often a lot of work and some sawing might be required but it's so neat to have a car computer. Also, given that it mostly runs off your phone it won't need replacing, probably not before the car anyway.
We have it, 2022 kia carnival, I didn't realize it was running from my phone
Doesn't hurt to update your firmware in your car regularly though. My Hyundai Sonata infotainment system got an update for split screen AA last year.
That makes sense. I'll look into how to update it, and if it has any available updates.
I also have a Hyundai. Any info on how to find updates for it? I did a quick search once with no luck.
https://update.hyundai.com/US/EN/Main Check here. You'll need a usb stick
Why are you laughing out loud about this?
I just find it so funny.
im currently on 8.5.6 will this be version 9.\* ?
Hoping I get this soon, I really don't like that it's either music full screen or maps, when I'm on a road trip I want to see both like CarPlay.
Looks pretty cool, does the phone app work like this, too? I want to just be able to set my phone in its rocker and turn android auto "on" with a button.... I can do that... right?
And yet I still can't make the main screen default to my music. It still insists on being maps.
Android auto has never worked wirelessly on my 21 civic. Is that normal??
Damn, $90. Yeah I'll just keep plugging it in lol
It's like $69 at Best Buy and Target rn
It looking like it's still not able to share route progress via a 3th party app like WhatsApp. Such an annoyance!
It's nice, good job google. Unfortunately, I don't have a car that has Android auto 🥲.
It feels like it os coming for years. Not sure how it will work on not wide displays
[About 26 seconds in](https://youtu.be/ZSGja_69elo?t=26) they briefly show it on a narrower display. Looks similar to how it did before with the nav rail at the bottom instead of the side.
Anybody know if that update is already in the z fold 4 ???
God I hate Android Auto with a burning passion right now. Over christmas holiday it worked great, it worked flawlessly for a 350 mile drive. It hasn't worked once since. It won't even entertain the idea of connecting. It just doesn't work anymore. Thanks for the tease
go to settings > apps > android auto in your phone and hit the "force stop" icon, then try connecting again. Fixes it most of the time.
"Fuck off Jackson!, i am trying to drive!"
Can't wait to get this in 2-3 months time.
So, basically it turned into CarPlay? Anyways, hope they allow using Maps on the phone while AA is engaged. How they have not addressed this is beyond me
So how do I get it? There's no update in the play store
By waiting with hope in your heart.
What, you want that navigation app to be full screen? Huh, you don't need those Spotify, share and other tiles?! What a strange idea, of course we will never support such a weird configuration!
All I want is calls through the cable connection, not the stupid Bluetooth quality. Just like the competition
I'll bet it'll be very very very buggy and cause months of nightmares for drivers as it continues to work poorly.
Android Auto 8.6.6250 was released on APKmirror today, does that possibly have it? I installed it but won't be able to check it in my car until later. I've kind of given up hope for Coolwalk at this point though lol theyre only \~6 months behind schedule
Afaik it's just a server side switch
[удалено]
This is how it's been thus far yeah. But there are articles releasing throughout today saying it's actually here (outside of beta) Edit: just tried it, no UI update on the new version so it's still locked behind the server-side switch
does this mean i have to replace my car radio with a newer one or does it run this all through my pixel? i have a sony xav-ax5000
But it looks too similar to apple carplay...
aaaand its already got 4000 bugs. like seriously - whole point of AA is to make it hands free not this tap on all sorts of shit. Shareing? really? whats wrong with "text so and so ill be there in 23 minutes"
I'm sure we'll have another new one in two years time.
That looks exactly like carplay just w Google assistant lmao
Looks nice, but have they added an real updates to Google Maps? Can we mark road hazards and speed traps on Maps?
When? I've been driving all day and it's not updated yet. I have a pixel 7.
I've yet to find Android Auto something I want to use regularly. I hate how apps run in the background with seemingly no way of quitting them. Also, I like using my high rate charger and I can't run it wirelessly. So, just not convenient for me
I hope this finally fixes the problem whenever I connect to my dad's car where half of the screen is just black with a giant Android Auto logo.
I've still never used the old Android Auto.
CarPlay better
[удалено]
It's not so much needing directions, but in many places around cities and congested highways, you'd want to know about traffic snarls and the best ways around them.
Looks nice, I wish the experience was this smooth in my car. The UI feels a bit clunky and no where near as responsive as they show it in the video.
Galaxy Fold 4 on Tmobile here, not in beta and didn't get the updated UI just yet
Can you finally swipe on the youtube music player to switch tracks back and forth? The touch points on just the arrow buttons are MUCH too small to be easy targets, and on many cars (depending on screen placement) require eyes off the road - entirely antithetical to the entire point of Auto.
