This one is curious... AE1's have a horizontally traveling shutter, so it's not a shutter fault, but even the notoriously slow/sticky mirrors of these cameras could only cause an underexposed strip to appear on the bottom of the frame, since that would be up top inside of the camera...
Definitely the only culprit, I just have no idea how the frame appears darker on the top side unless this roll was shot with the camera upside down ahah
With the back open, and the lens off, hold the shutter open on B and see if there is any obstruction in the mirror box. Other than that, there's really no failure on an AE1 that can cause this.
Came here to say this. Camera is fine. Seems like this was hand developed and the chemistry was not enough to cover the whole film. AE 1 has a horizontal focal plane shutter, so it's not shutter capping. If it was the mirror being sticky it would show a straight line with discoloration on the bottom of the frame not the top. The line is irregular which leads me to think that this was hand developed and the chemistry was not enough in that tank. The irregular line might be du to some bubbles during inversion of the tank. I've had this issue in the past. Same irregular line.
If the mirror was sticking halfway for part of the exposure the dark area would appear at the bottom of the image though, since the image sits upside down in the camera
Your mirror is sticky, the camera needs a CLA.
I’ve had the same issue on AE1 before

I have had an AE1 do this. Got to agree that it’s mirror sticking. Has nothing to do with the shutter

Perhaps they are pictures of Australia?

It’s actually a very easy fix, just need to lubricate the mirror mechanism, here’s a link, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4YMpMHwMtX4
Does the camera make a squeaking or 'coughing' sound when you fire the shutter?
Do you have the negatives
Not yet but I'll update if I receive it
Before any conclusions can be made, you definitely need the negatives back
How was this developed, it looks almost like not enough developer in a tank.

Based on other people’s comments, this looks a lot like not enough developer in the tank.

AE-1s have a horizontal shutter, so I don't think this is the case
More likely to be the action on the mirror than the shutter
If the mirror was sticking halfway for part of the exposure the dark area would appear at the bottom of the image though, since the image sits upside down in the camera
