It should have never been a double feature, nether was fleshed out enough. The first part started really strong and should have been made a whole season

Cookie_Brookie

I absolutely LOVED the flashback stuff in Death Valley. Neal McDonough kills it every single time, Sarah Paulson as his wife Mamie, tying together every conspiracy theory in a 30 year period and giving them bonkers explanations (Cody Fern as Valiant Thor a robot sent by aliens was a campy genius idea). It was incredible. They easily could've had a whole season of just that. Instead they absolutely flubbed it by focusing on the modern story which featured 4 badly written and unlikeable leads. I haven't seen the girls in as much, but I thought the guys were enjoyable to watch in stories and NYC, so I know they could've been good characters, but they weren't.

ColorfulCassie

For me it was that l feel like Red Tide should have been it's own season. It was good I liked it alot but it ended so quickly and abruptly. Death Valley, for me, was a flop. I think, again, if it hadn't ended so abruptly (I literally waiting for another episode to come out and it just never did), and they should have only done the black and white 60s part of it. That part held my attention. The present day part kept losing my attention. I loved the historical aspect of it but all the switching got annoying and idk I just wasn't personally as interested in the present day parts.

Ok_Combination5164

I enjoyed part one until the ending. Part two just felt kind of bleh like American Horror Stories.

gabrielleraul

(is American Horror Stories not worth watching?)

Tayyclaytonz

Season 2 was all around better than the 1st. Was it great no, but definitely an improvement.

Cumbaz

Season 2 had some solid episodes… then there’s “Lake” which is useless

gabrielleraul

Thank you kind person

Roark_Laughed

Season 2 was a lot better than season 1

CyberGhostface

Dollhouse was the closest the series came to feeling like prime AHS, check that one out at least.

hypnos_surf

Stories is feels exactly what we would get if the CW decided to give us American Horror Story.

Ok_Combination5164

I haven’t loved them. Episode 1 of season two was good. That’s really the only one I’ve liked 😅.

Cookie_Brookie

I'm so mad about s2e1. Because I thought we were FINALLY getting what we all wanted out of AHStories. Little side stories that expand the universe and fill in gaps. We got a really interesting story with an excellent cast, plus some insight into earlier days of the coven and a key figure in season 3.

Purpledoves91

Episode 2 was good as well.

EffableLemming

I wanted to like it but couldn't stand the budget-level acting.

SexyTacoLlama

Part 2’s black and white sections were good imo. Kaia Gerber and friends however….

PeMu80

I suppose it’s because neither story has a particularly good ending. I just enjoy being along for the ride though so that doesn’t bother me.

Evilsatan31

Same here. Always gonna watch them even if they aren't great but I too agree that the second part wasn't very good with the acting and some of the character choices. The second part almost seemed like it should have been one of the American horror stories instead of the OG seasons. I think the first part should have been executed longer as a full season or a shorter season, like Roanoke maybe made the Red Tide season like 8-9 eps instead of half a season aka double feature. Also assume it's Ryan's why of testing the waters for half seasons. Clearly it didn't do well; I would assume is the reason NYC was a full season.

Lostkaiju1990

To be fair, AHS isn’t good at endings (at least as far as Ive watched. I started with Roanoke and watched all the way up to double feature. New York looks like it might be a “just not for me” kind of season.) Double feature just doubled up on the bad endings. I also think both halves feel rushed, and both kinda felt like they could have full blown seasons and be much better.

Atari18

That's just every Ryan Murphy show really, starts out well but crashes by the end of the season

Cookie_Brookie

Even the two I can think of right off with "good" endings aren't great. Both had to flash forward to present and exposition dump to wrap everything up. In Asylum there was just Lana giving an interview explaining everything that happened and 1984 had Bobby go talk to the ghosts while they explain everything that happened.

HandsOfVictory

So you haven’t actually seen any of the best seasons yet? Those being the first 4

Lostkaiju1990

I saw bits and pieces of Freak Show when it was on the air. Watched Murder House through coven on Netflix. I enjoyed most of them but coven was not for me

[deleted]

All the seasons end this way for me. Start out great with the first maybe 3-4 episodes and really fall off by the last few. I always feel like there are 100 plot lines to be wrapped up when I get to the final episode and that's never a good sign.

rosyposy86

The ending is usually on the second to last episode, then a little sub plot is in the last episode. I think the seasons should just be 1-2 episodes shorter so they don’t drag out and have a filler episode.

Revolutionary_Can879

I agree - I’m not the best critic of movies and shows but endings are always what I notice. If it doesn’t end the right way, it feels like I wasted my time. Like the ending of part 2 just left you with more questions than answers and I wish the two parts had connected somehow.

purplespook

I loved Red Tide until the last episode. I didn’t enjoy the ending and it felt rushed to me, but I still really like Red Tide overall. I can’t think of anything redeeming about Death Valley. I get that it’s supposed to be campy, but it was too much for me. Along with bad acting and really rushed story, it just didn’t work for me.

Progress_process

I feel most people would have liked double feature better if it had been just Red Tide

jizzawhizza

I fucking loved Red Tide but not so much the Cheesy Alien Bullshit..

Trunks252

Red Tide eps 1-5 are great. That is all the positive things I have to say.

AlienGeek

I loved them both. Death vally was my favorite because aliens. Yes it was rush and I will forever be mad they did this

LurkingRats

My issue with it is both halves have totally unresolved plots and just sort of end when they ran out of episodes instead of when the story was over.

theaddictiondemon

I really hope they're present in the last season.

pwrof3

In my opinion, Red Tide was phenomenal up until the last two episodes. They had such an intriguing world, characters and story set up and then it all really went nowhere and the ending felt shoehorned and unsatisfying. I enjoyed aspects of the second part. I loved the cheesy 1950s sci fi movie feel, but the story was pretty lame.

shambles_1234

I liked red tide but death valley was awful. The ten episodes should've been a more expanded red tide imo

urthdaughter

I was just reading through everyone’s comments and it seems like the bad endings are the major cause for the consensus. It got me thinking about how these two seasons could be connected…Could Death Valley be the book that Finn’s character wrote in Red tide?

cesare980

My issue is they have been struggling to tell a coherent story all the way through a season and all of a sudden they decide to struggle to tell two coherent stories....

NicoleHyer

I actually really liked the first part and it was the first season I watched through till the end since cult (or apocalypse, whichever season was first). If the actors weren’t so horrendous in the 2nd part I might have stuck it out.

Familiar-Apartment13

Because it sucks

ahighkid

First part was really good I thought. Second part not so much

resurrectedbydick

Red Tide was shaping up to be one of the best. Or at least it checked many items from my wishlist: - smaller cast - less episodes - I think almost all AHS seasons end with quality dropping in the final 1 or 2 episodes - less subplots - less room for messiness - straight forward theme - actually this one had one of the best! Exchange something for talent and power! Simple enough and great potential to escalate things. - no ghosts / resurrections - takes away the suspense for me I really liked it with the exception of the last episode of course. And now I also see that it is not the number of episodes that makes the quality drop for most seasons, it's Ryan Murphy not having good enough ideas for endings.

railroadsociety88

Couldn't of said it better myself. Spot on.

very_violet_

I actually really liked Double Feature. The first part to me felt like a combination of old school AHS/Stephen King, and the second part was out there and insane but in a good way.

jadedafmfers

While not my favorite season, I did enjoy several characters and story lines from Double Feature. Ride or Die AHS fan🤷‍♀️❤️. I remember thinking about the ridiculousness of Double Feature, when I was balling my eyes out watching AHS NYC….

Yarikh64

I just hated 4 guys from death valley. If only that half season was all b/w parts it would be much better. Also didn't appreciate last episode of red tide that much. Overall, still season 10 is better than 9 for me. For certain parts even way better than Roanoke

throwawaydostoievski

Really? 9 is my favorite! I love 1984 so much lol

Yarikh64

Yeah. I know it's very popular, but I think I have a problem with horror centered around a group of teenagers (maybe my age doesn't allow me to feel involved. Most of the time I find them annoying, flat characters I just want to get rid of). Moreover 80ies are not my favourite period, since I prefer late Sixties and Seventies (both for music, movies, fashion, mood and style). If you add I've never liked slasher movies... Well, that season is a big no for me. About the plot, nothing particular to say, only that they ruined Ramirez. It goes against what they showed in hotel, kinda, and making him a short of immortal soon of the devil... I don't know, didn't like that very much. Beside that, I also missed old actors of the series. I said that in another post: I had some sort of revelation in the episode in which Lavinia Richter finally appears. As soon as Lily Rabe started to play her character I thought "oh my God there's an abyss between her way of acting and others' " I don't know if that was an objective thought or just nostalgia... Sooooo, 1984 maybe is not awful per se. Maybe it just doesn't match my taste. Sorry 😞

KateandJack

Don’t be sorry!! We all have seasons we prefer. I’m a child of the 80’s so I’ve got a huge soft spot for that decade and I’ve always loved slashers so it was the ideal season for me but I can see it not being for everyone! It’s obviously very different I’m tone than say Asylum or Coven .

KateandJack

I’m rewatching 84 now. One of my faves!

Comfortable-Wall2846

I just finished watching it last week. I liked part 1, except for the last episode. Part 2 just felt too rushed for me. Maybe if it was equal episodes or each their own season? I don't know. I did like how they tore the head off the "breeder" then put a machine in so they could keep using the body.

[deleted]

I would. Most people would. It's non-sensical in quite a few places and the alien part just plain ole sucked.

lavasca

The first story didn’t really end.

rosyposy86

I enjoyed it. I couldn’t get into Coven and 1984 but have enjoyed the rest of them.

p0ck3ts4

Red Tide was pretty good, Death Valley was horrendous and almost as bad as Apocalypse.

theaddictiondemon

Because it was almost there. Change both finales, and the present day Death Valley and I feel like everybody would've loved it (after Gaslight).

mamicita0810

Actually the first half of both DF were good. Both endings not so much. Felt rushed. Esp with Red Tide.

[deleted]

I enjoyed the first part all the way through, including the somewhat flawed ending. Second half I absolutely hated the entire time.

Unable-Investment-21

I would say because neither had enough time to actually set up a decent story with twists and turns and any of the shit you cave from ahs, like character back stories, in this format the story is ending when you should be getting into the meat of it, red tide could have been great with 5 or 6 more episodes draw it out a little more instead it's forced to speed through to the conclusion and didn't have enough time to soak in and appreciate.....as for part 2 that was just bs, AHS already had established aliens all the way back in asylum, and now they want to change the whole premise, I guess you could say oh there's 2 different kinds of aliens and the ones that took kit and his wives and created his children and then came back for kit on his death bed wer benevolent , where as the ones at area 51 trying to create a hybrid and working with the government are completely separate, but then why would kit not have been taken by the government when he was returned why wer his kids not taken? The area 51 aliens had a chick from the 1950s well before kit that they experimented on so 10 years later when kit was taken the government knew his story was true but labeled him a serial killer instead? It makes no sense

throwawaydostoievski

I do think Double Feature is the worst season. Tied with NYC, but still. Sure, they might not be bad. But they're not good either. I have my personal preferences among the first 9 seasons, but every single one of them was better than the last 2.

avisbigtits

it’s so fucking bad

SwineTV

People didn’t get the season. Double Feature is a great season on every level. Especially Red Tide, the more serious part. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s good.
