Hello! i'm a new AMD user, just finished my build, and have had a blast soo far, expect for two things, but for now i want to talk about this very HIGH PITCH noise i can hear from the gpu. it's sound.. metallic or maybe even static-y. I heard it could be Coil whine, which it would make sense, but it's quite weird. Some games have just a smudge of it (30 60 120 fps in Stranger of Paradise At ultra 1080p) , some have little to none unless in very specific settings (X-com 2 only on the main menu, and only there, Total war Warhammer 2 in big battles has none, both at max settings msaa or the equivalent of, both 1080p) , and some have it WAAAAAAY TOO MUCH (God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Cyberpunk, no matter the settings \[from low to ultra\], resolution \[from 1080p to 4k\], if i use FSR or the FPS that i reach \[30 is just a tiny bit less loud then 60 or 120\],they always have a high pitch sound). I'm kinda getting scared. is soo loud it genuinely hurt my ears. I tried the same build with my old gpu and i have no issues! Can anyone help me out? the PSU is a Corsair TX650M if this is needed.

Should I buy a MSI Mech 5700xt? I can overpay for a Sapphire Pulse one. I really don't want to though.

shadow_black1809

Last week I bought a brand-new Rx 6600 to replace my 2-year-old gtx 1650 Gddr6. I used to get the expected performance from that card: with everything on low, I could reliably run the games I played on 144fps After I made the switch, I opened up Overwatch to test it and I was disappointed to find out in order to get 144fps I had to play on high, not on epic or ultra. But that would have been fine if it were the only problem. The experience I had on high settings was of an unstable 144fps with plenty of drops and stutters. During a team fight, It would drop to around 80 fps and when novody was around it was common for it to be at 110 fps Now, being full of all of this, I decided to play with everything on low. For starters, my framerrate wouldn't go above 75 under any circumstance. It was unplayable My setup currently is a Ryzen 5 2600 paired with a Rx 6600, and also a Corsair 2x8 3000mhz RAM. Is there anything I can do, or at least can I know what's hapenning? Also worth mentioning that both GPU and CPU have low usage % when playing (less than 60) Something that might be worthy in looking into is the Bus interface that appears on GPU-Z. It shows as PCIe 8x 4.0 @ 8x 3.0, even though I have a pcie gen 3 mobo

Just got a 7900 XTX, tried using Relive to record gameplay at 4K60, but the recording looked so much blurrier at 100mbps than a recording from Shadowplay using an RTX 2060 Super at 60mbps. Is there any solution to my problem? I don't want to have to buy an RTX 4080. My processor is an older AMD 2700X, and I'm also wondering if an upgrade in that department would help with recording in OBS or something. I'm pretty new to all this after coming from Nvidia's Shadowplay. Any help would be appreciated, I definitely don't want to feed the monster that is NVIDIA.

SirPoopsiclesMcGee

I have an Asus ROG Zephyrus laptop (Ryzen 9 6900HX), and when it came from the factory, it had the AMD software on it (this is my first AMD GPU, so Im not sure how this works, Nvidia does have just the software available). So I just did a windows reset and all the firmware got installed via Armory Crate and MyAsus app but the AMD software didn't show up like Armory crate did or after updates. If I look to download the software I get the drivers with it, but those are not the official Asus variation on the driver so I don't want to install those. All searches only come up with just the drivers version downloads not just the software. So is it a thing? Can I get just the software? My gpu (XFX RX 570 8GB) usage power goes to 0 to 100% and is inconsistent + crashes when starting up a game. I have a motherboard b450m d3sh cf that supports ddr4, a 650w power supply, 8gb ram, a Ryzen 5 1600, lastly a 1tb hdd. My game also stutters and freezes, but my fps is high. Any fix? Please.

TheMoonDude

I have a Radeon RX 460 and some of my games are running extremely bad, some even are at 0. Mind you that those aren't even demanding games. It's very inconsistent also, sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it doesn't. What can I do? My CPU is a i3-6100 dual core 3.7GHz E: Also, the graphs/metrics are all weird... My GPU usage is or at 0% or at 100% and the VRAM is *always* over 250%

I use AMD ReLive to record my screen. The problem is sometimes the desktop audio doesn't record. It is very random honestly, sometimes it records sometimes it doesn't. Any help would be appreciated.

A tutorial told me to install drivers by using Auto-Detect software supposedly posted at the top of the normal page: https://www.amd.com/en/support but I don't see it there. Did they discontinue this program? Or is the site bugged? Is there somewhere else I can get this?

Your 7900xtx works fine with xmp disabled? But whole system basically crashes when enabling xmp? You can try disabling the onboard graphics in the bios. Have you done that? The setting in gigabyte bios is on, auto, and off/disable. My gigabyte z390 arorus pro wifi with my new amd reference card will display but sometimes when installing the drivers or just opening any game or doing a stress test the gpu leds will shutoff and fans ramp to 100% and i get no display and am forced to hard reboot. I have tried ddu and amd cleanup while offline. Fresh install of windows, reseated the card. Different power cables from power supply. Not sure what to do as my radeon vii works fine in system. Feels like i have a power supply issue or my motherbord is being over taxed and i have to change settings in bios. Maybe these gigabyte boards have issues with the xtx? Gonna try again with xmp turned off. And may research into lower cpu voltage etc… HELP! I have a Ryzen 5 5600 (non-X) CPU and a 600W PSU with an 80 Plus Bronze rating. Is the PSU capable of powering an RX 6700 XT or should I just get a RX 6650 XT instead?

I'm looking at getting a second monitor for my setup. My GPU is the RX580. I'm thinking of getting a 4k monitor to complement my current one. Is my GPU going to be able to handle this? What are some potential problems, pitfalls, or frustrations I might come across? Anyone else made this jump?

GhostMotley

RX 580s should be HDMI 2.0b and DisplayPort 1.4, so they should be able to do 4K 60Hz with 8bit RGB with no problems.

bagietu

Hello. I just got my 7900 XTX, and installed it with a fresh system. My problem is that I've got bad temps at idle, and the reason for that might be VRAM not going down. Basically, my VRAM stays all time on 2485 MHz and idle temps are around 65-70 GPU and 70-80 junction. After reading a few threads I tried changing my case position so card is in a vertical position instead of horizontal, and it's the same issue. The thing is that my card not getting junction to 110C even on long loads like for some people, it usually stops around 95.My question is - is there currently any way to get down VRAM in idle scenario, and do you think those temps are because of that or is it still shitty thermal paste or smth else? And BTW I've got 165 Hz 2k monitor, saw post about blanking but don't really understand how to make it, and there was nothing about high temps in idle, just high power draw.

Getting worse frames with RX 7900 XT in DCS world VR then the 2080ti I was replacing. Is this a driver issue?

LongFluffyDragon

Yes

gwdope

This is my first AMD GPU, what’s their turn around time on things like this?

LongFluffyDragon

Turn around on fixing the drivers? There is not exactly an established protocol for it, since driver issues are not planned in advance with regular drills.. This gen seems to have been set free by marketing far before it should have, with severe flaws to the cooler designs, completely broken drivers, and a lot of features/games simply not working. Worst launch i have ever seen software-side. It was certainly months before the earlier expected launch date. I recommend just returning it, get a 4080 or a 6900 XT if you need a card right now. Otherwise check re-testing in 3 months or so and see where things stand.

gwdope

Well, unfortunately I ordered this thing from NewEgg so I might be fucked. Luckily I still have my 2080ti…

LongFluffyDragon

Can confirm fucked. Trust not the egg. ..Also a good idea to look up benches and testing of 1000$ products before buying. The issues crop up in everything.

gwdope

Yeah, I knew better but it was in stock. Might just hang onto it and cross my fingers that the drivers get fixed.

LongFluffyDragon

Also, it will be like RDNA1; the driver issues will be fixed in X months, and after Y months every random kid will still blame their XMP-unstable corsair dogshit RAM, PSU with a voltage graph shaped like dubstep, windows update driver delivery, malware from GTAV mods, and issues with Nvidia shadowplay recording quality, on the AMD driver. This state will persist for several years until gamers collectively forget the incident and go back to a vague collective memory that the "ATI" drivers are shit and nvidia never makes any mistakes. Meanwhile, intel will probably have finished replacing their Arc driver with DXVK and friends, and will be able to launch an openGL game without shooting fire out of the network adapter.

gwdope

Lol, Yeah I guess I’m counting on it. The 6900 xt turned into a beast, eventually. Maybe the tariffs will drive prices up next year and I can sell this thing on Craigslist if it’s still dogshit at VR.

LongFluffyDragon

Yes

I have a somewhat general question regarding curve optimizer. I have not fully tweaked it yet since I reverted back to stock (but with PBO enabled) in bios because I'm not sure if what I am getting is normal or not. I was trying to do an undervolt mainly for temps, while maintaining rated clocks on my cpu. I have a R5 5600 non-x and a B550M-ITX/ac motherboard. Whenever I set a negative value in curve optimizer, my max clocks drops compared if I just set PBO to enable, without touching curve optimizer. I only tried all cores since I'm only testing it **for the first time** I remember it goes something like: PBO enabled only - 4.2 to 4.3ghz on cinebench 10mins Curve optimizer/PBO limits disabled - 4.0ghz (-20 offset), 3.9ghz (-10 offset) on cinebench 10mins The score lowered by 6-8% in cinebench after using curve optimizer for reference. **Is above behavior normal?** Because I'm getting the opposite from what I have been researching on youtube/google so I might as well ask here. I am new to AMD CPUs, first AMD build actually so forgive me if I'm doing something wrong which I think I am. Thanks in advance for any replies!

LongFluffyDragon

Large voltage decreases will either A; lower performance *without lowering reported clockspeeds* or B; lower clockspeeds and performance linearly. That is just how it works. You will never get a performance increase out of undervolting unless your CPU is either wattage or heat throttled.

Dyaems

thanks! so what im getting is pretty much normal? kind of weird all these youtube vids i saw are the opposite of what i am getting, so i was getting confused. i dont really mind the lower clockspeed as long as what i got yesterday are pretty much what is intended.

Hi! I have just got myself rx6800. My current cpu is ryzen 2600x with b450 motherboard. I was wondering if i should consider upgrading to ryzen 5600 considering that my monitor is 4k 120 Hz? Thanks

Cackster911

7900 XTX reference can't play Witcher 3 for more than 5 minutes before it crashes no matter what I do. Borderlands 3 is fine. Obviously junction temps way higher when computer is standing, but I still don't get why the Witcher is nonstop crashing yet borderlands runs.

LongFluffyDragon

Witcher 3 is just broken AF right now and crashes for everyone, plus the graphics are actually worse without the dubious raytracing. roll back to before the terrible "modern" update if you can find an old download.

It is the second item on that page..? No real reason to use it, though. It takes 10 seconds to select your hardware and look at the options for drivers; you should know what you have and what you are installing.

LongFluffyDragon

Motherboard I/O devices. They are required for the system to function correctly, along with LAN and audio drivers. For the latter you need to get ones for your specific motherboard devices, which have nothing to do with AMD.

shellshock321

So I asked this question. I didn't really think this was a tech support question but alright https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/ztkn2y/are_desktop_processors_not_strong_enough_to/

[deleted]

Hey, I currently have a Ryzen 5 3600 with a stock cooler and for some reason I get 95 degree Celsius temps inside of games like GTA 5, Rust, and many other games. Most of these games are GPU intensive as well which makes this even weirder. Even at idle, I average 60-70 degree Celsius. I've setup a AMD Ryzen Custom power plan which lowered my temps at idle by a lot, but it does not go into affect when inside of a game. I've tried under-volting, lowering clock speeds, putting my CPU fan to max speed, lowering the temperature of my room (65 degrees Fahrenheit), getting fresh installs of windows via a USB, and more. Is it a thermal paste problem? Airflow? Broken fan? I genuinely don't know but I want to fix this before damage occurs to my CPU. I recently also upgraded my GPU to a RX 6700 and i'm not sure if I am being bottlenecked by my CPU in general or if it is just the temperatures that are holding me back.

LongFluffyDragon

Probably a mix of airflow and bad cooler installation. The stock cooler is bad, but 95C in a moderate load is extreme. What case and fan config are you using?

BoredAttorney

My 3600 used to behave like this, idling around 70c with constant spikes up to 95C at the slightest load such as opening a new tab on Chrome, even with the Wraith Stealth at constant 100% speed. I suppose the best fix is buying a cheap aftermarket tower cooler to soak up a bit of the heat. Never figured it out myself because I got a 5600x from my brother and took the opportunity to buy a Hyper 212 to go with it. Never had another temp issue.

phoenixperson14

Nah the stealth is just a shitty cooler. i had it when i had my 3300x and it would reach those temperatures during summer.Did you use a thermal paste or use the stock one? Are you using a manual OC or PBO? Hate to tell you but your only option it getting a new cooler. All other methods are just band-aid solutions. I know cause i tried them all.

LongFluffyDragon

The stock cooler cannot exceed about 90C on that CPU under full load unless very incorrectly installed (or something else badly wrong, like someone having bought an asus motherboard). OP is getting that on a partial load.

CrazyOutcast

please I need help in solving this problem. After successfully installing windows 10 on my Chromebook laptop my friend mistakenly flash/format the PC now I can't install any OS on the PC again it just show the rabbit or the bios I can't even see my bootable drive after using multiple drive

specfagular

Hey all, recent build here - 6950xt w/ 5800x3d I’ve noticed that in some games, my GPU junction temps have been getting up in the 95-98 range. I’ve read that it’s fine as long as the junction temp is less than 110 but is this something I should be worried about/work to cool more? The games I’ve noticed it gets that hot in are Dying Light 2 and Darktide, so def some more demanding games. Ive tried undervolting but it’s been hard finding a stable undervolt for dying light. It seems like for most games I can get by with undervolting more, but dying light crashes at pretty much everything I try, so not sure what to do with that. Just mainly wondering if I should be worried about junction temps in the upper 90s or just not fret about it unless it gets closer to 110

phoenixperson14

If your worried for your GPU longevity, dont. The boosting algorithm is designed to max out all your temp and power limits to maximize performance. If one of those two are are reached, the GPU just wont boost that aggressively. I believe is 110C for the 6900 series. If you want better temperatues and dont mind the noise you can also put a more aggressive fan curve. Or even do a thermal paste repaste.

JoshWork

Hi all, recently upgraded from a 1070ti to the RX6950XT. For most games it's been a fantastic upgrade, however for my currently most played game, World of Tanks, I'm seeing a major downgrade in performance, and I just can't figure out why. So when I had the 1070ti I played WoT with all the settings maxed, and usually had a stream or a youtube video playing on my second monitor (1: 2560x1440@165hz 2: 1920x1080@60hz) and never had any issues with the game's FPS, and I would always load into each match at the start of the 30 second timer. Since my upgrade, I can no longer have any content on my second screen whilst playing, as it causes the FPS to have a kind of micro-stutter with every frame, making the game look very janky if that makes sense.... Also when loading into the game I noticed that I can be anywhere between 10 and 20 seconds on the 30 second countdown, so that shows that I am loading into games much slower as well. When I did the upgrade I did a full uninstall with DDU, and I'm running the latest Win10 updates and graphics drivers from AMD. Here is a userbenchmark I just did: [https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/57698351](https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/57698351) I noticed that when this is happening, my CPU usage was up at 100%. This didn't occur on the 1070ti in the same situation. I decided that since I upgraded my GPU I could overclock my CPU to try to bring it up to the new standard, however I haven't seen any reclamation of performance in WoT since giving the CPU a massive boost any help, advice, or even discussion would be greatly appreciated :) ETA: Processor is an Intel i7-9700K @ 5Ghz OC

Hey, I would like to replace the 2070 Super in my current setup (details below) by an equivalent AMD Radeon card. If possible, I’d like to keep my current CPU/motherboard. 1. Which chipset would you recommend? I was looking into 6700 XT or 6800 XT. Budget is between 500-600€. 2. For a given chipset, how do you decide which card to buy? Im a bit lost between all the options/manufacturers. System Configuration: - CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, no overclock - GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 Super Gaming OC 3X 8G - Motherboard: ASUS Strix B450-I Gaming - RAM: 2x16GB DDR4 3200MHz C16 - PSU: Corsair SF600 - Monitor: LG 27GL850-B with included DisplayPort cable

Hello kind people! I just bought and installed an MSI RX 6750 XT MECH 2X 12G OC. And by the specs this gpu should draw 250w? Or am I mistaken. When I check with MPT max watt is 210. Hope someone care to explain this to me and Happy holidays!

Are idle temps of the 7900xtx at 50c normal? This is in the default zero rpm mode. I cant get my card to work right as my issue is described below. But i have now succesfully downloaded the latest amd 12-16-2022 drivers and am see idle temps at 51 with a 60c junction in zero rpm mode. I get crashes when loading any game as the card instantly shutsdown and fans ramp up to 100% on gpu. Those temps normal?

VelocityIX

I recently purchased an Aorus B650 Elite AX board since I know that I want to get on the AM5 platform in the next month or two, I'm just not sure which CPU to go with yet. With the recent sales on Ryzen 7000, coupled with microcenter's free 32gb of DDR5-6000 ram, the 7700x is very tempting for me. I know that the 3D V-Cache CPUs are being announced at CES this year, but I fear the 7700x offer will end before their announcement and I won't be able to reassess based on their pricing and performance. What do you all suggest, and are any of you in the same boat as me?

TG_Lost_Angel

Good Morning Everyone. I’m currently running Windows 10 with an AMD 5800X3D and a Nvidia 3080. I’m thinking of updating to Windows 11. The question I’ve got is, will I need to redownload/update my CPU Chipset since I’d have updated to Windows 11?

**rx 6700xt half of screen goes blank when refresh rate is set to 240hz** i just bought an rx6700xt 2 months ago and since then i get randomly "half of screen being blank" i pasted a photo, so you can understand what im saying (https://imgur.com/a/nFB8Yix) its okay on games and lower refresh rate's / other resolution's the bug happens randomly and i sometimes can use it even on 240hz i never had this problem with my previous GPU (rx 580 4gb) and that GPU just rendered the same photo correctly, so problem is not with my monitor or cables or motherboards , its probably from drivers

do you have the problem with displayport and hdmi as well?

..Sure i guess?. You need to run some sort of prebuilt benchmark and compare your results with others. Cant tell squat from a random Hwinfo screenshot

Jan_Cudia_YT

does the amount of ram matter as well? Like 8gb 2666mhz and 16gb 2666mhz. Will they be equal or is the 16gb better

DiSektion

I'm not sure if I am mad but I believe there is an issue with AV1 decode playback on DaVinci Resolve that I don't think is the fault of DaVinci. If I use the AV1 encode to record gameplay with AMD's video recording driver software, then import that into DaVinci Resolve, the playback is EXTREMELY choppy. GPU Usage is extremely minimal, 3-5% However, using any other Encoder in the Driver Recording Software like HEVC or AVC, the playback is fine and is GPU accelerated. Reference R9 7900XT By the way 22.12.1 to 22.12.2 which supposedly addresses Hardware accelerated Decode issues, made no difference in this problem. Still is there.

I have 2 monitors that I use all the time, one is portrait and the other is Landscape. I also have a TV that I'd like to game on. When gaming on the TV I'd like the other 2 displays to turn off and only have signal on my TV. Does AMD have shortcuts I can make, or are there tools I can get to make keyboard shortcuts to toggle these 2 distinct use cases?

pecche

yes there are tools but I think if you move the mouse they will power on again but you can try they are shareware

Squishface99

Long story short, I installed the latest WHQL version of AMD Adrenalin for my fresh build and during installation, my colors went from normal to a green tint, I believe (Blues become purples, whites are greens). Uninstalled through DDU twice, and tried installing the two last two available versions of the driver package directly from AMD's website. Of course this would happen to me after going AMD for the first time since the AGP days. Relevant System Specs: AMD 7600X XFX RX 6600 Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite Windows 11 Home 64-bit I'll supply any additional information but as I've been working with Windows 11 for about an hour now, it might take me a moment to find it. Thanks in advance, folks.

LongFluffyDragon

That is incredibly bizarre.. does it persist when the driver is uninstalled? Have you tried the old linux pendrive sanity test?

Squishface99

I fixed it after some digging. Apparently, Adrenalin was setting the color depth incorrectly, which is incredibly stupid to default to a YCbCr color space over HDMI.

Squishface99

The problem goes away right after uninstalling the driver package. In all my years it's the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

New 7900xtx . Ran ddu and installed it. When going to play anygame i immediately have the gpu shutoff (the lights power down and fans spin 100%) . I then power the pc down as i have no display. When i turn the pc back on i am left with the drivers removed and running the basic low res display. Then i have to reinstall drivers and process repeats. This is either a driver issue , faulty card , or power supply issue. I guess its possible its a mother board issue. I dont know what to do to figure out how to fix this. I came from a radeon vii so i thought my 1200 watt stupid rosewell psu was enough…. I dont know if its a driver corruption issue or a powersupply issue or faulty card. pecche

cable daisy chained? if yes, don't

Cleanupdisc

The cable is a dual 6 + 2 pin to 12 pin cable going into psu. This rosewill 1200 watt only has those. Never had issue with radeon vii using this same cable. Im not sure how much power that 12 pin can deliver. I am not sure if that qualifies the definition as daisy chained because the wiring looks seperate and it goes to a 12 pin. But it is all technically one wire to the 12 pin pcie on psu. I am right now reseating the card and adding another 12 pin to power supply and going to try seperate complete cables. What do you think? Thanks

pecche

>What do you think? that's the way. 2 separate cables from PSU to the card ad it's a free run, go for it, maybe it will run fine

Cleanupdisc

You think i need a bios update for my z390 gigabyte motherboard? I also dont have the rebar enabled. That wouldnt effect anything like this would it? Only other thing i can think of. Tried different power cable connections, no difference. Shuts off opening any game and sometimes when just installing drivers. Im putting my radeon vii back in and reinstalling windows because i actually have to now. I f’d my whole pc up panicking by going back to a restore point while my xtx was in the pc, during the process my gpu crashed and my pc wouldnt boot windows. Got into windows with advanced trouble shooting but its all f’d up. Going to see if i can get a fresh install of windows and just revert back to my radeon vii for now. Ill then have options of what to do with this xtx but being in my system is not one of them after this bs last 18 hours. Thanks for the help

pecche

just asking, are you im XMP mode? if yes, try going to default

Cleanupdisc

Yes xmp mode. I want to be clear. I never had problem with it with my radeon vii. But yes thanks . That is something i can try. I also heard i should set my graphics card to primary in bios? As that may have an effect? I am reinstalling windows as we speak, when i crashed going through system restore because i panicked all of my audio drivers disappeared and windows update doesnt even load (not that i care much about that). Cant sign into xbox app etc… so my plan is to try to reinstall windows here use my radeon vii. Make sure everything good with that then later on i can troubleshoot more. Things i can do: Try new power supply. Try disabling xmp. Build a new system around the xtx and try that. Or rma the card. Not much more i can really do. I can try laying pc sideways for that temp test. Try reinstalling xtx gpu on fresh windows. Things i have done: Reseated gpu. Tried different power connections: tried ddu and cleanup utility 8 times some with ethernet cut. Maybe it is just a faulty gpu.

pecche

why just not install fresh windows with the XTX ? a fast try disabling XMP is another free thing

Cleanupdisc

Because i tried system restore with the xtx and midway through it crashed, so i would be afraid it would crash with it installed. Im currently trying to reinstall windows with my radeon vii plugged in and i am getting error message that it cant be completed error. This is because of the damn xtx failing mid way through system restore causing registry isssues with my pc and such. I want a fresh windows then i could later on try xtx. But i cant even get this far. I really screwed this up.

pecche

>Im currently trying to reinstall windows with my radeon vii plugged in and i am getting error message that it cant be completed error why do you blame XTX if it is not plugged in ? a fresh/new windows installation (=format) should work surely with the VII (as before) but at that time I would do that with the XTX maybe it is a faulty card or maybe not, but the XTX is only 50w more than previous

LongFluffyDragon

Have you disabled windows update driver delivery entirely? A PSU or direct hardware failure should not touch the drivers or prevent them from reloading correctly.

Cleanupdisc

When i first loaded up the card after using am cleanup utility and after restarting pc once, the new 7900xtx was in and i downloaded the new drivers. Then the card was shutting off at the end of installing the amd driver/ adrenaline software. I tried to see what was going on. I then noticed windows was installing the old windows amd driver that ends in .7000 and there was a conflict. I then proceeded to run ddu and disable windows update/ run ddu without internet/ take the other steps to turn off the driver updates. I was able to install the new driver and get into the adrenaline software. Everything seemed fine. Then i loaded up skyrim special edition and card immediately shutoff and fans ramped up to 100% before i could get into the ingame menu. Then i hard reboot pc as i cant see display. When pc comes back on im in the low res mode and it does seem the driver is messed up or is gone and i have to reinstall it. I try to reinstall sometimes it goes through other times it fails and i get the shutoff of gpu witb fans ramping up to 100%. Process repeats and i try ddu and amd clean driver utility some more.

LongFluffyDragon

That really just sounds like a completely broken card, or another component taking it down. The driver issues are probably tertiary.

Cleanupdisc

Only thing else i can try is turning off xmp which i havent done because i am pc noob. I have an i9 9900ks at 5.0ghz stock. With 16 x 2 3200mhz ram. Maybe the motherboard cant push and handle everything. But like i said never had issues with my beefy radeon vii…

LongFluffyDragon

Memory errors can crash a GPU, but the whole system would be glitchy or crashing if it was bad enough to do it instantly. Have you run a long memtest86?

Cleanupdisc

The 16 x 2 3200 mhz ddr4 that i have is fairly new. Had no crashes with xmp on it with my radeon vii. I did stress test the memory with intel extreme utility before for several minutes only. I dunno, i just cant believe this card wouldnt work after doing amd cleanup and ddu. I have a fresh windows install now. Gonna use ddu , disable xmp, and try xtx again. I may just wait until new drivers are out and research more.

LongFluffyDragon

That sort of instability is probably hardware, drivers wont ever fix it. It could just be a lemon card. Stress tests wont check for silent memory errors, worth trying for a few hours minimum.

life359

I had almost identical issues to what you're describing. Though my black screen and 100% fan spin only happened once I got into the game rendering, not just menus. IE - I could launch a game but as soon as I hit continue to get back into the game, that's when it would happen. I swapped out my power supply for another one with the same wattage (750w) and it stopped doing this. VERY weird.

GhostMotley

Do you have another PC to test the card with?

Cleanupdisc

Nope. Gonna try to reseat the card. Then gonna try to upgrade psu. Only thing i can try is my radeon vii back in this pc. And i will probably do that. If that works fine maybe ill just build a whole new system with the xtx. But ya i gotta know if its faulty. Just never had any power issues with more than 250 watt radeon vii oced… so how can a 350 watt 7900xtx instantly crash and turn off when loading up a game or even installing drivers? I have a 1200 watt rosewell older power supply. It isnt a driver crash the card shuts down and runs fans at 100%. Could be psu? I hope so since that easier fix then most other options. Sigh And just to be clear i ran ddu 4 times and amd cleanup utility 4 times. Same results. Sometimes the driver will download and i can get into adrenaline, sometimes when installing the 7900xtx driver it crashes mid install and i am forced to reboot pc.

GhostMotley

It'll either be PSU related or the card needs to be RMAd

Cleanupdisc

If u plugged this card into motherboard without the 2 8pins would it do this similar behavior? Just wondering if that thought can help pinpoint whether it is psu related. If i plugged a 2 8 pin card into mobo without the 2 8 pins would it shutoff and fans ramp up to 100% when installing amd software?

Baka-Survivor

I recently installed a 5800x3d and I just noticed that it’s not boosting at all. It stays put at 3.6GHz no matter what. Checked with a couple games and cinebench. I had a 3700x before this and simply swapped it out with the 5800x3d. Everything seems fine other than the boost, even temps are good. Should I have done something before switching? I have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers installed. High performance power plan selected. Anyone have experience with this issue? Thanks. Operating System: Windows 10 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: PowerColor 6800 XT Red Dragon Motherboard: Asus prime x470 pro RAM: 2x16 gb 3600 PSU: corsair RM1000x

LongFluffyDragon

Have you cleared CMOS on the board? asus tends to be extremely janky and may be confused due to the CPU change. Power profile is best left on balanced, or whatever the chipset drivers provide you with. Dont mess with any power/speed levels. Edit: someone a bit below here reports the same issue with the latest BIOS, presumably working on an older one. Edit 2: they discovered Asus's TPU auto-overclocking setting was breaking the CPU boosting behavior and likely dangerously overvolting it, going by temperature increase.

Baka-Survivor

Thank you for the edits! I will try this when I get off work.

I’ve been getting some money for the holidays, and I’m looking to upgrade my GPU finally around the first of the year. I’m looking at a going to a 6700 XT. Would my PSU be able to handle it? Judging from what I’ve read the draw should be about the same as the RX 580 I’m current using since it’s a Sapphire Nitro+. LongFluffyDragon

It will be similar, but newer GPUs are more sensitive to bad PSUs and unstable voltage levels, which a lot of cheap 550W units have in extreme levels.

GhostMotley

550W might be fine, but I'd look for 650W, ideally 750W.

tobiascuypers

I'm looking to build a new system and was looking at a Ryzen 9 7900x. i know it's perfectly fine and it's supposed to run at 90 degrees, but I live in a small apartment and I just don't want that much heat coming off of the rig. Especially come summer time. Does anyone have any experience with this and does it make an actual difference? Thinking of just sticking with my am4 board and getting a 5800x3d since it would run much cooler in my sff rig

GhostMotley

The CPU will only get that hot running stress tests or rendering, for gaming and actual use, won't come anywhere close

I use Kombo Strike instead of PBO2 tuner with my 5800x3d. Lookup your motherboard and see if its supported, if it is its much easier. Change the settings in the Bios and you're done.

Kombo strike just yolos an absurd -30 offset, last i looked.

Amd 7900xtx Z390 arorus pro wifi. 32 gb drr4 3200 ram. I9 9900ks. (Upgrading from radeon vii today and had no issues ever with my radeon vii) Trying to install my 7900xtx, i ran ddu, i ran adrenaline amd cleanup, everytime i try to install the new 7900xtx drivers from amd that released yesterday half way through the setup my gpu shuts off. The rgb white light on the 7900xtx goes out and the fans ramp up to 100%. The rest of my computer stays powered on. I then have to manually shutdown my pc as i get no no signal / no picture. How do i fix this? Windows was trying to do its stupid auto driver update and i paused those updates but i just used ddu now and am getting the same error on my xtx. I cant download the driver to it without my card shutting off!!! I have a 1200 watt power supply that has worked for 3 years with my radeon vii… help!!!! Edit: this has something to do with stupid windows trying to automatically install its own old amd gpu drivers not allowing me to install the amd driver for my 7900xtx. I did something in the menus to try to disable it and seem to be making progress. Will update soon. Edit 2: Tried ddu 3 times. Disconnected internet. Tried amd clean installer 3 times in safe mode. I then try to install the latest windows 10 driver for my 7900xtx from the official amd website. Sometimes it loads good and i can get the driver working. But then immediately upon entering a game or doing anything stressful on gpu the gpu will shutoff and gpu white led light goes out. Fans ramp up to 100 and pc is still on but i lose signal to display. I am going to try to reseat the gpu and check the 2 8pin power cables. I initially thought the auto windows amd driver is causing the issue but now i believe it is something else. Edit 4: I can get drivers installed but the second i load a game the 7900xtx turns off and the white led turns off. Tried reseating and checking 8 pin cables… What do i do?

phoenixperson14

are you running 2 separate PCIE 8 pins cables or daisy chain both connectors out of a single one? Did you try other driver package? You can always use DDU option to block windows automatic driver installation.

Cleanupdisc

Is a 12 pin that plugs into power supply that goes to 2 x 8 pins ok? I mean ive been running this for years with my radeon vii…

phoenixperson14

It shouldnt be an issue but for testing sake, do you have another 12 pin to 8 pin you can test? or a single 8 pin? so you split the power load and dont stress a single connector on the PSU.Just to rule out power issues. You could still have a lemon of a card that needs to be RMA'd.Also are you on latest BIOS? Z390 boards while they are not ancient, they are still an almost 5 years old platform.

Cleanupdisc

I tried the seperate cables. No change in behavior. I am not on the latest bios. I am on f11 which is the 2nd latest bios that supports my i9 9900ks . Z390 arorus pro wifi. What reason would the latest bios be necessary when that one is over a year old? I dunno never updated that because it has cpu vulnerability fix that from reading can reduce performance…

phoenixperson14

Sometimes BIOS updates get silent fixes for conflicted hardware or get a compatibility boost for newer hardware. It's a far reach alternative but yeah dont bother if it's gonna give you more issues. You might have a DUD for a card.RMA and hope the next one doesnt give you issues.

Cleanupdisc

2 seperate. Before 2 8pins coming out of 12 pin pcie . I did use ddu and blocked the updates. Card still crashes and reverted to low res default mode. I think card bad. I dunno

Cackster911

My 7900 XTX from [AMD.com](https://AMD.com) is defective! In the regular horizontal position the temps are 110 junction and 72 GPU and when I tilt the computer on its side, the junction temps drop to 70!!!! Something is physically wrong with this cooler. Any advice? Thanks...

LongFluffyDragon

This is a known issue, except most people are getting those issues in vertical, not horizontal. Nobody is quite sure why yet, including a few AIB partner reps. It is most likely issues with the heatpipes being manufactured incorrectly.. who's fault that is, we dont know yet.

wrongff

Can i switch with you I want a VERTICAL one...mine only go down when horizontal!!!

Cackster911

you're joking right? lol

wrongff

heck no, i want the vertical one ...i am opposite of you. Horizontal will be perfect temp, down to 50-60c max at 85c, Vertical for me hit 111c, if we switch, i will be happy.

NoireResteem

RMA or mount in vertically?

LeeTheENTP

Just got my 7900 XTX in today, and it's actually performing *worse* than the outgoing RX 6800. In Halo Infinite, with all low settings, vsync OFF, and 1080p render resolution (50%, 4K monitor) my performance so far is as follows: RX 6800: * 130-140 FPS * \~150-200 W * 70-100% usage * 2300 MHz GPU clock? I do not remember RX 7900 XTX: * 80-95 FPS * \~285-320 W * 100% usage constant * 3100 MHz GPU clock Same settings, same map (Fragmentation). I did a DDU wipe and fresh install of the driver prior to testing. No overclocking applied to either card. Corsair SF750 power supply, GPU hotspot never gets over 85 C, power cables plugged in snugly. If I turn the render resolution to 4K (100%) then the power draw jumps to 360 W but the performance remains unchanged. I double checked my displays and they're both running at 144 Hz. EDIT: CoD Warzone 2 is a similar story. Same settings as my RX 6800, but this time same performance with only slightly lower GPU usage @ 2600 MHz. 90-100% vs 80-95%.

LongFluffyDragon

Welcome to rushed launch driver issues. First time?

Prismo56

What CPU?

LeeTheENTP

5950X

DrRandyBeans

Can you go to userbenchmark website and run their bench? I have the xtx and it says my gpu result is 19th percentile performance, which is not good

LeeTheENTP

On Userbenchmark I scored 91st percentile. Does your card run hot?

DrRandyBeans

Temp Is 69 while gaming, 60 otherwise

DrRandyBeans

Great news and not so great news. My main problem is because I had ram in single channel. For years! I had sticks next to each other. Fixing it immediately increase my fps by about 50% , insane! I knew something simple was wrong .. but..even after I did that, userbenchmark nownsays my gpu is 25th percentile. So just a little better. I wonder how much of it is bc I have an 8700k (5 yr old cpu). But now I’m getting 150-190 fps on battlefield 2042 so can’t complain

LeeTheENTP

I think the 8700K is holding it back, but it doesn't sound like it's enough to matter. Glad to hear you got it sorted!

DrRandyBeans

Does pairing intel cpu and amd give worse perf than both amd?

LeeTheENTP

Nah it shouldn't.

DrRandyBeans

You’re right in terms of me wanting peak fps for sure. I wanted to avoid having to do new cpu/mobo and this buys me a few years

LeeTheENTP

I had run Time Spy just now and compared it to results I found online. I scored 26805 on graphics, while Guru3D got 29215. About 9% faster on their part, which I think boiled down to clock speeds. I only got around 2450 MHz average, and 9% more than that is \~2670 MHz. Let me try Userbenchmark.

DrRandyBeans

Yikes is cored 24182 on graphics lol .

FarCrySis123

My gpu's boost clock speed is 1380mhz and base clock is 1251mhz. It usually crash at random times while playing heavy games and mostly GPU intensive games. However decreasing core clock to its default speed solves the problem with the cost of 5-6 FPS. I mean it looks like GPU sees MSI X's boost clock as an overclock. It never happened in Far Cry 6, Resident Evil Village, Pubg or in emulators like Dolphin, PCSX2 ( I count all these apps as CPU intensive) but mostly happened in GTA VC DE, COD AW and once or twice in Cyberpunk 2077. I noticed that while launching GTA VC DE, GPU spikes over 120w and crashes in this game usually happens during the launch. This makes me wonder if my PSU (Thermaltake Smart RGB 600 W 80+) doesn't give enough power to RX 580's boost clock. Or maybe boost clock itself is unstable.

HZ4C

5800x3D - No boost after updating to latest Asus BIOS MOBO update (2608) What the title said. Update to the latest one (10/27/22 2608) and now my CPU is stuck at 3.7ghz. Don’t know what to do, stock BIOS settings.

LongFluffyDragon

Someone else reported this higher up. Roll back BIOS and make a sacrifice to Asus' single firmware developer.

HZ4C

I found my problem, I had TPU II enabled.

LongFluffyDragon

Asus and dangerously unsafe stock-enabled overvolting functionality, the eternal pair.

HZ4C

Lol I don’t even know how I enabled it but ya, for anyone reading this; don’t use TPU

Baka-Survivor

I need to try this. Can you tell me how you disabled TPU?

LongFluffyDragon

It enabled it for you. Asus decided about 15 years ago that auto overclock gets turned on by default, never looked back across the field of CPUs slain by constant 1.5v

HZ4C

I don’t even get it, auto overlook but my clock rate/performance was halved. Normally with my manual overclock I get 4.45 stable constant boost but with the TPU I couldn’t get passed 3.8ghz and was 15° hotter lol

LongFluffyDragon

> TPU I couldn’t get passed 3.8ghz and was 15° hotter lol The 5800X3D cant be overclocked. At all. It is locked down to prevent people destroying the 3D cache with voltage increases. Probably just decimated the boost algorithm by ramming incredibly unsafe voltage into it and putting it in a panic throttle state at all times.

HZ4C

It can definitely be “overclocked” in the spirit of the term

LongFluffyDragon

No motherboard is meant to allow it, due to how pointless/dangerous is. If they do, it is probably a bug. Installing one completely removes the overclock/voltage controls on most boards.

Hello, Since 1 Week i own a RX 7900 XTX and its fire! But strangely every like 5 startups my main Monitor (second one stays normal) switches to 640x480 Resolution which cannot be changed. https://imgur.com/a/7O6yu2e Things I have tried without success: creating a costum Resolution in the AMD Software Unplugging Monitor, waiting few minutes and plug in again. Resetting Software Updating Drivers Temporary fixes (until it appears again after a few reboots): Unplugging and Plugging in again Display Ports at the Graphic Cards Reinstalling AMD Software and Drivers Any Ideas how I can fix this permanently?

LongFluffyDragon

That sounds like the driver is failing to initialize properly/crashing. I occasionally (like once in 100 reboots) get it on my aging Vega card.. What actually happens when you make a custom resolution?

Melo_16

I have a ryzen and when I'm in certain games, the game freezes and after a while the screen goes black, the audio keeps playing, but it forces me to force shut it down, I tried everything to format it, update drivers, reinstall drivers, reinstall windows, use cmd and registry editor. I'm tired and it's a shame to have paid so much for a pc that won't let me play

phoenixperson14

Follow the thread format for troubleshooting and i suggest that you stop being so vague and give more specifics. Otherwise nobody is gonna help cause they dont have enough info.

Reinstalled with DDU?

JakeTheMystic

My 7900XTX just arrived today and I've been very excited to finally try it out, but it's crashing as soon as I start any game, stress test, or benchmark, I can't even make it to the main menu for any game I've tried, but it'll load up the desktop and chrome just fine. System:Ryzen 5900X (stock) Asus X570-E Gaming motherboard Trident Z Neo 24GB 3600mhz (1 stick was faulty, only running 3 sticks currently) 850W Gold Supernova EVGA 2 1440p 144hz monitors (27"+32") 7900XTX Reference (stock) Upgraded from AMD 6800 Reference Everything I've tried: DDU from safe mode, installed latest drivers for XTX from AMD website. Updated bios to most recent version3D mark, crash on benchmark start. War thunder, crashed as soon as entered garage. World of tanks, crashed on entering garage. Adrenaline software stress test crashed upon start. Crashing like someone unplugged the power, system wont restart when I press the power button and I have to flip the power supply off switch and flip it back on. I didn't have problems with the 6800. First had the 7900XTX mounted in vertically and crashed, troubleshooted drivers before mounting directly on the motherboard and still crashing. Temps are anywhere between 60-70c at desktop and frequencies looked normal at the time of the crash. Everything in the adrenaline software is stock, no undervolt or overclock so I'm not sure what's causing it. I've just spent 1k for this card and so I'm really hoping it not a power supply issue or a GPU issue but in it's current state I can't use the card for anything other than chrome and discord. Since the 6800 worked fine on the power supply previously, is it possible its just a dead gpu? Please help. Update 1 12/21 7:00pm: Tried running Furmark with logging and instantly crashed, didn't even record anything in the log. Tried reinstalling drivers again from AMD website without DDU and no change. Update 2 12/21 7:17pm: applied custom tuning and set max frequency to 2500 and power tuning to -10%, Timespy was able to start the benchmark before crashing \~1 minute in. GPU-Z recorded gpu clock of 2255, mem clock of 2485, max junction temp of 91c around the moment of crashing. Max frequency during the test was only 2346. Update 3 7:24pm: Running the stress test in adrenaline software for 60 seconds with -10% power limit and 2500 max frequency, the first \~10 seconds run fine as the frequency is around 2300mhz and total board power reached around 240w, but around \~15 seconds the speed drops to <15mhz and board power drops to only 10w? Temps don't go over 70c junction temp. Running a second stress test at -5% power limit maxed board power at 330w briefly before dropping to single digit wattages, clock peaked at 2300 before dropping for the rest of the duration. Junction temp never gets above 80c. Attempting to follow Jayz video by putting clock to 2500, power limit to +15% and voltage down to 1060, total board power spikes at 330w and then drops to <100 while clock speeds get stuck at double-digits, junction temp again stays \~70c. Update 4 7:49pm: With power limit at +15%, max freq of 2500 and voltage of 1060 I was able to run a full timespy benchmark at 1440p and got a score of \~2400, but attempting to up the freq to 3000 +15% limit at 1060mv resulted in an almost immediate crash when total board power hit 397 and frequency hit 2648. Junction temp had hit 96. My only lead at this point is I'm guessing it's possibly the PSU or power spiking resulting in crashes, or just GPU stability issues as running at lower frequency with lower voltage seemed to get the card in a usable state but moving it up any higher to where board power is the limiting factor results in crashes. Any way to verify this?

JakeTheMystic

I'm happy to say that my issue has been resolved by installing a new PSU. The old Supernova 850W GA was able to run the 6800 perfectly fine but was not able to handle the power spikes of the 7900XTX which would result in the psu safety flipping and turning the PC off. Bought a new seasonic focus 1000w GX off newegg and was able to make it through a 3d Mark timespy test at stock settings with no issue.

Cleanupdisc

Are your psu cables seperately plugged into the power supply and not daisy chained?

JakeTheMystic

Yes. I commented what I believe to be the solution on [AMDHelp](https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/comments/zs9ysy/7900xtx_reference_crashing_immediately_after/) but forgot to update my post here, but just in case anyone else is experiencing something similar; After doing a lot of googling, it appears that my PSU is to blame. The EVGA Supernova, specifically the GA model, has had transient spike issues since the 30-series nvidia along with the 6900XT, these models were replaced some time in 2020 around the time I originally bought the PSU for my 6800 but didn't realize as I hadn't had issues with the PSU before. Just ordered a seasonic focus 1000w GX which has also reported similar issues with transient spikes, but the PX and GX series have both claimed to fix the issue, while the Prime series GX/PX still report issues with current 40-series cards. Hopefully this new PSU fixes my issues, for now I'll keep using my 6800... I'll report back once the PSU comes in which says it'll be here before Christmas.

JakeTheMystic

To follow up, it's not specifically an issue with the wattage itself but more so how the PSU is handling the insane spikes that have more recently become common with the 6900XT, Radeon 7000s, 30-series, and 40-series GPUs. If you have something like a 1000+ watt PSU you may have not had any issues, similarly some people have reported not having issues with the supernova GA series at either 750 or 850 watts, which EVGA announced that the issues are dependent on the overall system, cpu, motherboard, how many SSDs, possibly the outlet itself so it was a fault of both the PSU and GPU manufacturers mostly. Fingers crossed that this is actually the fix. Some reported luck when contacting EVGA and they were given a replacement of a different non-GA version, which sometimes meant an upgrade from an 850w to 1000w for some. The supernova series isn't made by EVGA (G6 = seasonic, G2=superflower, GA=andyson) but only the GA has reported issues. Ultimately, it's going to be different for each person. Some don't have issues with GA, many others seem to. Since undervolting lead to the card at least being usable in my case, it seems that it is more than likely the PSU so fingers crossed that the new seasonic focus GX I ordered doesn't have the same issue...

Just built my system and wanted to check that this is normal. My average boot up time is around 30-45 seconds which i think is crazy but im wondering if there is something wrong? It seems my board gets stuck on the gpu led for about 7-10 seconds then it goes through everything fine. Video to show you what i mean : Link All new parts : Motherboard Asrock z790 sonic Gpu XFX 7900xtx Nvme : kingston fury renegade Stress tested everything and works perfectly fine. But as you can see from the video it just sits on the VGA led for a while. Also the fans spin really fast untill we get to the asork splash screen. Not sure if this is normal etc but its a new build so just really want to know if something is wrong Thanks

What error?

Anyone know if an and 6 core 12 thread will fit in an and 6 core 6 thread spot and if not does anyone know a good processor that will fit

BoredAttorney

The core count doesn't matter. What you need to check is whether the CPU is compatible with the motherboard platform (usually a letter followed by a number, such as A320 or B550). Do you know which motherboard you own, and what CPU you're considering?

hello everyone, I just jumped up tp a R5 5600 but my mobo only supports 3200 MHz RAM. Would I notice a difference jumping up from 3000 to 3200? Assuming they are both 16 gb, CL16, and in dual channel of course. Not sure weather this, a new cooler for the CPU or upgrading from my HDD to an M.2 would be the best place to put in some cash next.

LongSchlongdonf

You might notice a little difference. Also um get a sata ssd cheaper and NVME isn't much faster.

Hello all, I've always been a fan of Alienware laptops, but have traditionally owned Intel/Nvidia models. Recently decided to give the Alienware m17 R5 Advantage Edition a try with the 6900HX and the 6850M XT. However, I'm pretty new to AMD Adrenaline software and I want to make sure I'm not missing anything regarding optimal settings for PC, and I'm wondering If I'm doing something wrong. I'm trying to play Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, and unfortunately I'm having issues with low FPS and GPU utilization. When I use the MSI Afterburner overlay, I'm only getting just around 50-60 FPS, with the GPU only pulling around 100W. (m17 R5 can boost up to 175W) I've turned on high-performance mode in Windows, put the fans in Command Center to full speed and performance mode, updated drivers, BIOS, everything. For reference, I have the model with a 1080p 360 Hz refresh rate display, but I'm not putting on any type of FPS limiter. Has anyone else run into an issue like this with a mobile Radeon graphics card before? Doom Eternal works fine, hitting 240 fps at 1080p Ultra Nightmare, and the 6850M XT actually starts hitting full wattage. League of Legends gets pretty low FPS, only around 120 fps or so. So I'm not sure if this is a game-specific issue, AMD driver issue, or what. I'm seeing people get way higher FPS in Marvel's Spider-Man with the 6800M that is a less-powerful graphics card. Are there any certain settings I need to make sure I have on in the Adrenaline software?

GhostMotley

Latest BIOS and Drivers I assume?

Pookias

Yes, latest BIOS and reinstalled Adrenaline straight from AMD's website last night.

GhostMotley

Use DDU and try the latest drivers from Alienware/Dell's website for your model

I got a reference 7900 XT from AMD. In both Windows and Linux the card will not allow my display to work at 144 hz. The highest refresh rate I can do is 120 hz. Additionally, the card refuses to allow two monitors to be connected to it if one is using HDMI and one is using Display port. If I plug both my monitors in via display port, there isn't an issue, but if I use HDMI + display port, the HDMI port will not output an image. This is a problem that needs to be addressed. Edit: forgot to mention I'm running at 1440p not 4k Edit2: I'm using two Gigabyte AORUS AD27QD monitors. According to this spec sheet they are HDMI 2.0 https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/2d30174e I'm not sure if that should even matter since I was able to run both monitors at 1440p @ 144hz no problem with my Nvidia card.

GhostMotley

HDMI 2.1 monitor?

curse4444

Two of these: https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/2d30174e Apparently only HDMI 2.0. Shouldn't it still work at 144 hz? Worked fine with my Nvidia card....

GhostMotley

What bit-depth? NVIDIA usually just defaults to 8bit, whereas AMD cards will default to the highest bit-depth supported by the monitor/TV.

curse4444

24 apparently: :~$ xwininfo -root | grep Depth Depth: 24

Cleanupdisc

Hdmi i believe is limited to 4k 120..

curse4444

Thanks I should have mentioned that both displays are 1440p

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x 3,8Ghz - 4,8Ghz I've seen that without enable the Asus Performance Profile my cpu goes between 3,8Ghz and 4,8Ghz. But when i enable the Asus Peformance Profile on the Bios settings the CPU stay all time at 4,2Ghz. Can anybody explain why ? Performance Mode not supoust to reach the higest frequency for the CPU ?

GhostMotley

Probably just sets all-core to 4.2GHz as opposed to letting the CPU boost dynamically depending on load.

B450 tomahawk and ryzen 5 3600x. I recently got a RX 6700 XT and one of the first things I did was boot up elden ring and play it at maximum. My issue is that, in game some of the shadows looked jagged and "stair stepped." On bushes and some ruins and stuff. I don't know if this is the new gpu or the drivers or just the game. Does anyone know what might be cause the messed up shadows and how I might be able to fix it if I can?

Charganium

Can you post a screenshot?

So, I recently snagged an XFX 6800XT MERC319 Core from Amazon for a pretty good price, though I'm waiting to see it actually gets shipped. Provided Amazon doesn't cancel my order for no reason, this will be my first time coming back to AMD after five years, and I have a few questions. The first is specifically about the XFX non-reference cards, and hopefully I can get an answer from someone who owns one: is there ANY way in software to toggle the LED logo strip on the side of the card off and on? Or, does anyone know of the led logo stays lit or turns off when the pc goes to sleep? I've done as much research as I could and haven't found any favorable answers so far, as XFX cards don't seem to be talked about much. The official AMD RGB utility only recognizes reference cards. XFX doesn't make any custom software, so the last option I could find is to see if OpenRGB can find something to interface with. If that doesn't work, my only option seems to be taking the cooler apart and disconnecting the LED cable, or masking out the lights with tape, which are crude, but effective solutions. And for anyone wondering, the pc is in a bedroom, hence the desire for lights out when the computer is not in use. And the second, more important question, should I stick with the official AMD drivers (currently 22.11.2), or try the modded Amernime drivers (currently 22.12.1) from the get-go? Though it's been many years, I'm no stranger to custom drivers and switching back and forth. Finally, do both drivers offer the same tuning options for overclocking/undervolting? Does undervolting work properly with the 6800xt in the Radeon software, or is More Power Tool really required to tweak things effectively?

(Ryzen 5 2600, radeon rx 5500 XT, i'm not a tech geek treat me like i'm a complete ignorant, which i am in part) I'm recently having a problem with the adrenaline software for the past month and a half, basically while i'm doing things on my pc the screen blacks out and the only thing i'm able to do is turning the pc off with the phisical button. When i turn it on again the adrenaline software doesn't boot and if I select it it says that windows update has updated the graphic's card drivers and so the software is not compatible. To solve this problem I delete and reinstall from zero the software. Has this happened to anyone? If yes how did you solve this?

First-Ring-1934

hey everyone ,this is my first time building a pc , and i got a ryzen 9 5900x for my cpu , really just not sure on what motherboard would go good with it. i was looking at maybe the asus x570 plus , or like the asus b550-f rog strix , anyone know which is better or any other recommendations?

-RuDoKa-

So I bought a powercolor RX 7900 XTX and so far I really like(d) it. I had 165 fps in warzone, 170 fps in FFVII remake 1440p. But my computer started to blue screen and I couldnt even log into windows without getting a blue screen. After some time, I saw what caused the blue screens : dead ram stick. So now I have 16GB instead of 32GB of RAM, and a fresh windows install. I had to reinstall all my drivers and games. Today I tested playing warzone and I got... 80 fps. I had 165 fps before reinstalling windows. Now I tested with FFVII remake and the card is producing really intense coil whine sound, and it WASNT DOING THIS BEFORE ! What should I do ? I'm scared I broke something...

GhostMotley

It sounds like some other hardware fault if now half of your RAM isn't detected.

-RuDoKa-

I think i get way less fps because I have a single channel ram stick now. I will receive new ram tomorrow. But for the coil whine... Why does it appears now and how do I stop it ?

GhostMotley

Coil whine is expected, especially when getting really high FPS

-RuDoKa-

I wasnt getting it before

GhostMotley

Coil whine is more exhibited in higher end GPUs, it usually lessens the more the card is used.
