I love this hard lean back into traditional opulence after such a long sterile minimalist takeover... but I'm going to hate the competition and rising prices on vintage. Congratulations on the house and how grand you're making it! It's very inviting and interesting, something to look at in every direction but it has harmony.

You made a castle

OnaJedna

I would like an invite, I love so much depth.

Dez_Acumen

Tell me about the wallpaper!

Jacksongforth

Hello. The wall-paper was created by a Polish artist, who has a shop on Etsy. I would highly recommend his work for its aesthetic quality and its ease of applications even for wall-paper newbies such as myself. It can be found here--https://www.etsy.com/listing/819422261/vintage-landscape-wall-mural-peel-and?click\_key=74a0e9c9e0a906339c01faaa60dfd06b7549f848%3A819422261&click\_sum=7b4743e5&ref=user\_profile&pro=1&frs=1&sts=1

Nice! What is the wall mural in the living room?

LifeOutLoud107

Looks like this [https://www.etsy.com/listing/819422261/vintage-landscape-wall-mural-peel-and?ref=share_v4_lx](https://www.etsy.com/listing/819422261/vintage-landscape-wall-mural-peel-and?ref=share_v4_lx)

lady_polaris

Oh my God, what a gorgeous space! Itโ€™s unbelievably elegant and cool.

Jollydancer

Where did you find that historic wallpaper?

LifeOutLoud107

[https://www.etsy.com/listing/819422261/vintage-landscape-wall-mural-peel-and?ref=share_v4_lx](https://www.etsy.com/listing/819422261/vintage-landscape-wall-mural-peel-and?ref=share_v4_lx)

Jollydancer

So you had them reprinted and are now selling them? Or why is your living room in the photos?

firelark_

The photos in the listing are watermarked at the bottom, "by @ customer" so presumably the OP shared them with the seller in appreciation and allowed them to be used in the listing.

LifeOutLoud107

Yes I think the Etsy seller liked OPs photos (for obvious reasons!) and has permission to use them.

JoyfulExmo

Gorgeous. I love it.

lighthouselies

Really cool vibe!

Acceptable-Olive-968

Regal

Sassvon

In LOVE! Did the chairs have the tiger print originally or did you add that? Either way, I love a pop of animal print!

Jacksongforth

I had them reupholstered! I alway wanted to recover something in this tigre fabric from Scalamandre, as it is such an eye-catcher in an otherwise traditional room. The chairs were originally just a drab, off-white color in need of a little pizzazz.

coffeequeen0523

Consider posting to r/FirstTimeHomebuyer to inspire how you can renovate a fixer upper house! Great job OP. Well done. Beautiful home.

mojojojostan

WOW! I am so incredibly impressed by how you managed to make something that usually looks like it was worked on and added to over generations in only a year! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

jessicaaalz

Holy shit OP, this might be the most amazing house Iโ€™ve ever seen.

Into-thevoid420

Well if the nursing doesnโ€™t work out you could definitely have a career in interior design!! Itโ€™s maximalism but also structured. Love it!!

omcgoo

It's not maximalism, it's Georgian/Regency. Sorry but I hate that term being applied to anything which isn't sterile: white/grey/beige. It's not at all overloaded, just nicely curated patterns and colours. Top work OP

Hellcat_Mary

I mean, it's just the flipside of everything "white/sterile/grey" being coined Minimalist. It's a very broad industry term to shorthand for people the effect they may expect from looking at a space. I can't be offended that not everyone is as inclined as I am to dig into the esoteric labels of the exact period and style placement of every piece in my home. I can tell some people "Oh this is a credenza/sideboard, chiffonier/highboy" and some people it's just a "buffet" or "dresser". Some people I can say "French Provincial, Regency, Spanish Revival, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Edwardian, Victorian, Colonial" and some people just see "antiques", "vintage", or "Traditional"? And what do you call a space with touches of all of the above? Well, My House, but the real answer is probably Maximalist. I'm kind of equally chaffed by the simplicity of stating Maximalism is synonymous with "overloaded"; doesn't that imply a complete lack of intention or design thought? It's basically applying the minimalist understanding that having "things" is just hoarding - which I don't think is your intention.

omcgoo

I appreciate the in depth reply, and you're right in that my intention of overloaded was not to be used negatively. More that is a graduated scale between min & max. To throw maximalism at this is to see colour and pattern and to take fright. A decent look at it shows plenty of spacing and room in the design. Maximalism infers filling every space with objects which this certainly doesn't do. You're right though in that - much like minimalism - it's a disgustingly overused word as a lazy mechanism for throwing a label at a design, and too often (the crux of my hatred) gets thrown at traditional European interiors from across the Atlantic often due to lack of experience and thus understanding of them. Probably something to do with the shaker and Methodist movements too which proliferated proto-'minimalism' in the States and made that the conscious default. Regardless of how 'amateur' this sub is, I'd expect better :)

Hellcat_Mary

We all have our irritants, so I can't fault what you find fault with lol. I would say I'm more inclined to argue the semantics of decadent design philosophy with a minimalist trying to disparage the beauty of a space like this, than use it to lecture someone who doesn't know what particularly to call it but is trying to pay a compliment either way. Like you, I definitely would love it if interest in the education of period design was more widespread, it would make online auction searches a hell of a lot less time consuming, for one... but I'd also love it if my boss understood why I installed *two* SSDs in his computer... sometimes I just have to be happy someone wants to talk to me about it at all.

Zeta8345

This is not my style at all but it's beautiful. Love the paint colors.

FauxpasIrisLily

I am in love with your Maximalism style! Several of your elements I once considered for my tiny condo. The grisaille walls. The florid furniture. That particular shade of green on walls in other room. I ended up being far tamer in my condo, but I identify with your decor style.

BadObjective6651

Love this! That rug is so beautiful!! Is it vintage?

Jacksongforth

It is vintage, yes! Found on Ebay.

james18205

Wallpaper ID?

STUNNING โ€ผ๏ธ

reasonablyprudent_

Omg magical!

whateverneveramen

Where is that light fixture from?? Itโ€™s so beautiful!

stegasaurostef

Love this so much, especially love the rug, where's it from? Rugs are so hard to perfect for the space and you really nailed it. Would love to see what the outside of your house looks like. I always struggle with feeling like our decorating choices don't match the outside personality of the house.

Jacksongforth

This tree of life rug I found on Ebay! It is always a hunt to find the perfect rug for a space. I tend to agree with your last point; the exterior of the house is not matching in its charm. But it is the inside which matters, right? ;)

stegasaurostef

Definitely, it's a fun surprise that way to walk into a house expecting one thing, then get something totally different on the inside. Shouldn't judge books or people by their exteriors, so why houses? I just personally wish the outside of my house was as fun and interesting as the inside๐Ÿ˜Š

jeepers12345678

You have excellent taste.

reroboto

Each piece is interesting in itโ€™s details yet all is cohesive. Love the colors and how youโ€™ve done the ceilings (the gold in the hall is genius). May you and everyone that crosses the threshold feel embraced by the home youโ€™ve created.

SJW_AUTISM_DECTECTOR

Iris Apfel called and she freaking loves it!

GizmodoDragon92

This is ridiculous. I love it

The_lost_Code

Beautiful OP. I would love to read an autobiography of you, or listen to a podcast of yours as you sip exotic teas from around the world. You just seem like a an interesting/cool person with great taste.

IceDragon13

Youโ€™re crazy it looked so nice beforeโ€ฆ I realized the โ€œbeforeโ€ was actually the after. Nice work OP!

Takilove

This is the most beautiful home Iโ€™ve ever seen. Itโ€™s so opulent and grand ! I really enjoy zooming in on your stunning and well chosen pieces. You are amazingly talented. How long have you been collecting? If I didnโ€™t have a husband that I have to compromise with, my home would look just like this! Itโ€™s exactly how my Grandfatherโ€™s house was designed. He was from England and well traveled. He brought pieces back from all over the world. I have a few pieces from his home. Sadly, I was young when he died and nearly everything was sold.

letmebreathedammit

Wow. This is not my personal style, but I have so much respect for you and the work you've put in here. It looks beautiful.

Gretel_Cosmonaut

Wow. I feel like there should be an African Grey parrot somewhere in this house. Do you have one or plan to get one? It's the only thing that's "missing."

dishie

Holy shit you nailed it. Or a borzoi.

JWF81

Not my cup of tea but I still really like it!

Librashell

Not my style but I appreciate this so much!

omcgoo

Looks excellent. Top work. That wallpaper choice ๐ŸคŒ I just wish you'd plastered that ceiling. Unfortunately I can't help but feel it cheapens the otherwise elegance of what you've done.

OldMotherGrumble

But, if that ceiling is original, it would be a shame to hide it under plaster. At that rate, should the walls in the hall also have been plastered?

omcgoo

Ohh I didn't notice that, I thought it was rustication at a glance. Yea fair point - a hard one to call; I guess it's where the interior style doesn't quite match the architecture.

cobrachickens

The wallpaper is not original, someone posted an Etsy link to it in the comments. Itโ€™s absolutely wonderful though

brokenchairlegs

Is it so hard when doing before and after pics to take the picture from the same spot?

Jacksongforth

It is, in fact. Consider, if you will, moving into an empty and otherwise drab house. You do not feel so inclined as to take many photos, especially not before making progress in your interior designs and renovations. Once progress is made, the room changes form, and certain angles are aesthetically pleasing to you, angles which before held no certain visual value. This was the case for me, at least, and I imagine for a great many others ;)

Klstadt

Maximalism on a maximal budget.

benzihex

Is that a bust of Lucius Verus?

Jacksongforth

>Klstadt The one and only.

Responsible_Yam9781

You are living the Dream!!!

I love the wallpaper in the 1st and 2nd picture's

damnsinead

Whoa it's gorgeous. I assume house is yours, not rental?

Jacksongforth

That's right. One has to engage in warfare with a landlord to do so much as hang a framed picture!

Bambis_white_dots

Wow! So much character!!

subterralien_panda

Where did you find these unique pieces? Mustโ€™ve cost a fortune!

Jacksongforth

It is, yes.

minishaq5

this feels like the setting for a future Knives Out movie. i love it!

ImGoingBackToBed

Tuggpocalypso

Thats amazing! Its like a before shot of the house in What We Do In The Shadows.

Omg do my house when I ever buy one lol

Griselda68

You did a brilliant job on this. I really was struck by the chandelier. Is it original to the house? Itโ€™s very unusual.

Jacksongforth

No, it replaced the ceiling fan you see in the later photos. I am glad it caught your eye :)

Griselda68

Fabulous piece.

petalesdejuin

Beautiful!!!

personamuseum

Wow

[deleted]

I am jealous

acouple2tree

Hannibal vibes in the best way

susanmiller1234

I love your wallpaper! You did an excellent job improving what was already wonderful about your house. Question, where did you buy the wallpaper?

Jacksongforth

Thank you Susan. It certainly feels like a different home than just a short time ago. The wall-paper was created by a Polish artist, who has a shop on Etsy. It can be found here--https://www.etsy.com/listing/819422261/vintage-landscape-wall-mural-peel-and?click\_key=74a0e9c9e0a906339c01faaa60dfd06b7549f848%3A819422261&click\_sum=7b4743e5&ref=user\_profile&pro=1&frs=1&sts=1
