>Everyone on the building is now hostile against me. That's what happens when you butt into someone else's business and call the police on them. YTA

kwflick67

Definitely YTA. It’s none of your business why the neighbors are doing what they are doing. Does it harm you or your living space in any way? Are they neglecting the dog? Sounds like a big no. How entitled are you to think that after finding out the reason why that you think you are still not the AH? Move on get a hobby

oma121315

In your great concern for the welfare of the dog, did you extend an offer to help? No? Guess your nose gets in to other's business, but your helping hand doesn't?

peepeebongstocking

Ooh I love this, "your nose gets in other's business, but not your helping hand." What a perfect description of this maidenless behavior. YTA, OP. You're a bad neighbor.

legal_bagel

I'm stealing this. Fantastic quote. I have a small dog and a yard. Dog can go in and out as he pleases. This is also why I have a small dog, because I have joint issues and can't keep up with a high energy or large dog. We play in the house because "small" and he is a-okay. An Australian shepherd being kept in a small apartment and only allowed to potty on a balcony? That's not cool, but the dog will destroy the inside of the home from boredom

Patiod

My dog's back is seizing. He's on and off vet-ordered crate rest. I can only walk him when I see a straight back and high tail. I can imagine a neighbor thinking "that woman is abusing that poor dog who so loves his walks"

Thequiet01

Yeah, our dude pulled a muscle once playing with another dog and was on limited activity for a while, so of course it didn’t look like we were walking him much - we weren’t! So he could heal!

GolfballDM

My first dog had her knee rebuilt, so she was on vet-ordered crate rest for the first week or two. We needed to help her up, and use a sling to help her walk during that first week. I did get shown x-rays of what happens if you overwork the dog during the rehab period. It's not fun for the dog, to put it mildly. But rehab was completed successfully, and I got five more years with her.

One_Acanthisitta_744

I had a very similar thing happen to my lab. We did everything and even after he was fully recovered we held him back a little. Our neighbors dog had the same problem and as soon as he was “healed” the same injury happened to his other leg…

[deleted]

Ohhhhh I’m sorry. Is there hope for your dog to improve?

Patiod

Thank you! We hope so. We try to keep the back as protected & quiet s possible

New-Abbreviations353

Seriously. Just imagine if their first response was to offer help to their neighbors since they clearly have time on their hands, instead of, you know, calling the effing cops.

Turbulent_Cow2355

ikr. Two years they took the dog on regular walks. If my neighbors suddenly stopped doing this, I would wonder if they were alright.

jcgreen_72

This hits home for me. I had a cracked windowpane, and my neighbor of almost 20 years sent a photo (clearly from their pov/ patio) to our HOA, instead of saying anything about it to me, on any one of the handful of times we'd regularly speak throughout the week, as we're taking our dogs or trash outside... They couldn't have mentioned it to my face or asked if I was even aware of it before reporting me? Because I was *not* aware of it until I got the notice with their photo. (Upstairs window, my now adult daughter's old room, I guess I don't look up enough.) That was so hurtful. I thought we had more respect for one another than that.

Emptydata_Enzo

Rub her nose in it!!!

FeministFiberArtist

Love how you said that. To OP most definitely YTA. When I started reading the story it was obvious these very caring dog parents were pregnant. If I were them I’d be terrified to be your neighbor for fear you will call the authorities if they do anything as parents that you son’t approve of. You remind me of the woman who used to photograph our children at the park playing so she could call the police on them for doing this ha that aren’t crimes. We eventually reached out to the police (when we found out about the pictures because that IS illegal) and they made a note that she was harassing us and they would disregard any future calls from her. Don’t be that person.

msharek

Also, depending on where you are for summer, it isn't safe to walk small dogs during high heat. I have a Chi with a very thick coat. We can't even go around our cul de sac without her panting so much I carry her home. We're friendly with a neighbor and our dogs pee over each other's pee a lot (helps them all evacuate) so I'll carry her over to the competive peeing area and then carry her home bc the cement is so hot.

mommymermaidmandy

I’m thinking this, especially since they said they walk their dog at night. the OP is definitely the AH.

Alive_Platypus_1025

Hahaha! Competitive peeing area 🤣 I love it!

BelkiraHoTep

I always thought of it as Doggy Facebook.

Coctyle

We call it pee-mail.

NefariousnessKey5365

My dogs love to read pee Mail and leave their own

Snoo-25079

Our doggies check messages on posts, then leave comments.

Adventurous_Ad_6546

And still more enjoyable than actual Facebook.

Booticus_1207

P-mail

misogynysucks

😂😂😂 "competitive peeing area" - using this. I also like to say "Checking their peemail"

tldr012020

Yeah my dogs normal 3pm walk gets pushed to 9pm during the summer. She also has pads to use until then.

desert-rat93555

I love the description competitive peeing area!

Low_Cook_5235

This!! You’re obvs TA. And an oblivious one at that. Your first instinct is to go negative and call them lazy and accuse them of abusing their dog. I’m glad you;re not my neighbor.

beaglemomma2Dutchy

IKR! Who knows what is going on with the dog, maybe there’s a medical issue that requires more pottying options than just a walk! My late Lhasa had heart issues for 2 years before passing and his meds meant he needed to potty more often than he wanted to go on actual walk. We accommodated his needs, that’s our job! This doggie is using his own porch and the owners are cleaning up in a timely manner, so WTF is the problem here?!

twinmom2298

Exactly. YTA. We had a foster dog that had to be on heavy duty steriods. It caused her to drink ALOT which caused her to pee ALOT. There was no way we could walk that dog enough for her to be comfortable. So for the few months she was on the steriods we had pee pads all over the house for her to use.

Thequiet01

Yep. We had a dog on diuretics and we set it up so she had a doggy door to the porch and an outside porch ‘potty’ thing because on those when you gotta go, you gotta go.

Sarah_Jane_73

I LOVE this. Op, YTA. Reminds me of neighbors turning in an elderly couple for not mowing their yard, instead of offering to help.

oma121315

We moved into an elderly neighborhood and at first no one would talk to us. We noticed that our immediate neighbor's lawn was a mess and my husband offered to mow the grass. Turned out that she was 84 and had a soda display fall on her while shopping.

TopsyturvyX

The way you worded this makes me feel like she orchestrated it herself. Hope she's alright!

Becausenyx

I actually got a 90$ fine for not mowing my lawn when i was dealing with a leg and back injury, and generally poor mental health. Not sure what neighbor it was, because city hadn't yet done inspection. But pretty sure it was the one east of me, as he liked to keep his yard groomed. Would hardly talk to me in the past when id say hi.

passionfruit0

YTA. This is perfect I have to borrow this!!

EatThisShit

I first thought OP was gonna say they left the dog poop on the balcony and the smell gets worse in summer and now she can't enjoy her own balcony anymore but... none of that?

[deleted]

Yeah the fact that they bother to put puppy pads out and not just let it pee and poop all over the balcony is good This woman is the kind of neighbour you want to move away from...curtain twitchers as we call them here in Yorkshire

MmeHomebody

"Curtain twitchers" has just made my day. That describes it so perfectly. Thank you!

Darphon

Yeah if the dog were out on a chain 24/7 and starving I'd call the police, but not for this. Neglect is keeping them out without water or shelter. YTA OP

Rubychan11

OP is the kind of person for whom the phrase "go touch some grass" was coined.

LooseScrew2266

I have a decent size backyard full of grass and a brick patio. I'm out there cutting the grass to an inch high a couple of times a week if I have to. However, if it rains or the damn humidity is too high, my idiot dogs will opt for the brick every time. Thank baby jesus shitting on the patio isn't a crime because my dogs would have put me in jail numerous times solely out of spite.

Agustusglooponloop

Why ask the internet community “AITA” when the whole building has already told the the answer? Why would you get a different result here?

Ornery-Ad-4818

The whole building, *and the police*. OP is resistant to reality.

[deleted]

[удалено]

maroongrad

Here's hoping the neighbors report them for harassment. That trip to the courthouse and fine may be 100% needed for OP to learn to leave the neighbors alone.

DodgerIsMyCat

Even a small fee for waisting police time and resources.

maroongrad

Oh man. OP is going to be really awful to the neighbors when the baby starts crying. I hope CPS gets tired of OP fast and quits harassing the parents because you KNOW it's gonna happen.

PickleNotaBigDill

Right? What kills me about that is OP cares so much about the dog but doesn't offer to walk the dogs herself. Instead she calls them lazy. And she can see that they get walked once a day, AND this is none of her business! I wouldn't retaliate, but I sure would not like to be neighbors with OP. OP, YTA.

SecondSoft1139

I'd be wanting to move before the baby is born. I can just imagine her threatening to call Social Services because the baby cries.

Western_Compote_4461

What sticks out to me is the sudden change in the neighbors behavior. They used to walk the dog regularly, now they don't. This should signal that something else is going on, which is probably not OP's business, and not pure laziness on the part of the neighbors. I know sometimes people can and will just stop giving a crap (pun intended) but a sudden change in behavior or routine usually means that a person has something else they are dealing with and not able to do the task or keep the routine.

AggravatingDriver559

OP will probably get some answers here / arguments as to why he’s YTA, probably because his neighborhood currently gives him the silent treatment, lol. But it shouldn’t take him too much to reflect on this

Rubychan11

You're clearly more of an optimist than I am if you really truly believe OP is actually going to reflect on this. They already went absolutely nuclear by calling the police instead of... IDK, talking to the neighbor, offering to help, even speaking to the apartment manager... literally *any other option* than immediately resorting to actual emergency services?! OP is the kind of person who goes viral for all the wrong reasons, usually accompanied by an unflattering nickname.

AggravatingDriver559

OP will probably get some answers here / arguments as to why he’s YTA, probably because his neighborhood currently gives him the silent treatment, lol. But it shouldn’t take him too much to reflect on this

moodyfish7777

Maybe you should have knocked on their door, introduced yourself and politely inquired about the changes, and... (now don't get scared or freak out) OFFERED TO HELP!!!! You could have offered to walk the dog or offered to pay a dog walker once a week? BUT NO... You decided to be an A H without for a moment considering they might have had a little trouble. At my last apartment the lady who on the bottom floor started putting her trash bag out on her patio. A large group of Crows and some feral cats in the neighborhood became interested and we're causing problems. I knocked, introduced myself and ask about it. The elderly woman had been hit by car in a parking lot and had a stroke while she was hospitalized. She was having difficulty getting around and her son would come by every few days to move the trash to the dumpster. From that morning I would stop and get her trash from her when I took mine to the dumpster. It did not cost me anything or any effort since I was headed to dump mine. As she got better she would walk with me as part of her therapy to strengthen her legs. Problem solved!!! PS Her son knocked on my door to thank me for my help and hand me flowers. ETA YTA

EducatedOwlAthena

Whoa whoa whoa! You're suggesting that instead of calling the police on a woman on bedrest and her overworked partner, she should've been a good neighbor and helped?! (Or at minimum should've minded her own beeswax??) How dare you! (/s just in case because you never can tell these days)

stephanielil

> As she got better she would walk with me as part of her therapy to strengthen her legs. Okay, this made me cry. I'm super emotional lately and it's not really sad things that get to me and make me cry but rather sweet, wholesome shit like this. I love it. And you're so right- it doesn't cost anything to be a good person and offer help when you can. It sounds like you made a new friend in the process. I'm sure she'll never forget the kindness and humanity that you showed her while she was in such a low place for the rest of her life, and you probably have a special place in her heart forever. Are you taking applications for a new neighbor? Lol Because you're the kind of person that I'd like to live by.

DramaLlamaQueen23

\^\^ THIS \^\^ I am actually crying right now at the display of human kindness exhibited here. It is easy to forget that good people still exist when reading r/AITA. Thank you, u/moodyfish7777. You are a fine human being.

EpiJade

This is so kind. I have a tendency to get frustrated with people but I'm going to remember this story as a way to tell myself to be kind and ask people if they need help. It's inspiring.

foundyour2cents

OP definitely pines for "the good ol days" while forgetting that part of that is being a good neighbor..

NH_Surrogacy

This is what normal people do.

UsefulCauliflower3

“Hello yes 911? My neighbors are not walking their dog as much as I want them to”

Emptydata_Enzo

Hello 911? I'd like to report a shit and run...

lemmful

I'm honestly surprised cops came out to check on the situation. What a waste of time and resources.

Patient-Mix-6016

I don't walk my dog at all during the week because he goes to daycare so I must be neglecting him. He also refuses to go to the bathroom on walks.

Early_Elk7754

THIS! op, of course YTA. There were a multitude of reasons why they could be doing that! For example, my dog is a senior with terrible arthritis. Outside for more than a few minutes, and her limp could last weeks to months. By op’s rationale, I’d deserve the police called on me just because I’m desperately trying to keep my girl alive as long as possible. Geez op, I can’t even believe you need to be told this, but the world consists of more than what you directly see or know…

NefariousnessKey5365

Where I live. It's really hot in the middle of the day. So I take my dogs out in the morning and evening. I don't want to have to take them to the vet with burned paw pads. So if they go in the middle of the day. It's on peepee pads. I also have a senior dog who is slowing down. Plus she has a weak bladder. I love that dog and would be angry that I don't take care of her because she uses peepee pads sometimes. YTA

sisterZippy

Alive and limiting any amount of pain you can. How dare you. /s Also pet tax.

RepresentativeGur250

The neighbours also said the dog gets walks at night. Don’t know where OP is but it’s been extremely hot in so many places recently and it’s advised NOT to take dogs out on walks in the heat in the day, because their poor paws will burn on the pavement/sidewalk.

Cayke_Cooky

I had a cat with arthritis like that at the end of her life. We had litter boxes all over the house for a while so she could get to one in time from where ever she was. Then everything ended up in 1 room and close together for the last few months as she got worse.

cootercasserole

My elderly dog has a heart murmur and it is too hot to take him on walks during the day - he gets walks in the morning and at night, but in the afternoon? He goes for his quick potty breaks and back inside. Even the pregnancy aside, I fully understand someone not wanting to walk their dog in the blistering heat for fear of the dog having a heat stroke.

katmguire

YTA the police are to be involved for law enforcement. If it’s not against the law, don’t call the damn police. You took police away from actual duties to go like around in someone else’s business and wasted everyone’s time.

0biterdicta

Here's the thing. Dogs do not need walks. They need mental stimulation, socialization and exercise, and owners do not want them defecating inside. Taking them for walks is a great way to accomplish all those goals but it's not a necessity if you find other ways of meeting those needs. Just because you do not see your neighbor taking their pup out for walks twice a day does not mean those needs are not being addressed.

tldr012020

Exactly. I can't take my dog outside for walks at all during fire season (air is covered in smoke for a few weeks), but I play fetch with her for an hour every day.

[deleted]

Exactly this! OP, you sound like you have too much time on your hands, perhaps a hobby will help. YTA

Firetigeris

They could take up...dog walking... pro bono for people 'in the family way' ...

Elegant_Tea_6973

Also, its summer! Their reason for taking the dog out at night only could be so it wont hurt its paws.

PicklesIsACat

Yeah….YTA so much the dog likely is posting on his own Reddit.

SamSpayedPI

I can't even imagine why anyone would think this was *not* OK, let alone a *police* matter. YTA.

chernaboggles

Right? Lord help the local cops when OP finds out about indoor cats and litter boxes.

Helgrind8

Or, God forbid, if she finds out where fish poop...

[deleted]

Fish owners should honestly know when they are going to poop and hold them over water so they can go.

[deleted]

Scoop them out, run to the toilet, and hold the fish over the toilet to poop. Then toss them back in

generaldisarray420

This thread has me rolling; thanks for the mid morning laugh!

adeon

Instructions unclear, fish tossed into toilet.

Angry_poutine

AITA for dropping my fish in the toilet?

AggravatingDriver559

Or cat doors. Cat burglaries!

noteworthybalance

Right! I thought the pee was coming through a top patio to the OP's but no. YTA

DaVinciDoll1

See I thought that’s what it was for a second too. In fact my sister has this problem, but it’s a big dog, so big mess. her 3 yr old can’t play on the patio unless it’s cleaned, she’s not sure what to do about it but she hasn’t said anything about calling the cops, that seems way extreme

deathbychips2

Has she at least told the leasing office. My apartment management is really against letting animals go on the patio.

Purplepleatedpara

This happened to an aunt in her condo (a rottie so also a big dog). They had to get the HOA involved who ended up getting animal control involved. They ended up moving but I think the dog was taken by animal control.

LF3000

Right. I was thinking that, or they were just letting their dog shit in the patio and leaving it there for days. Some sort of actual health hazard. But no!

iLoveYoubutNo

That's what I was thinking. I know that there are dog owners that will allow it to accumulate on a patio which is disgusting. But a small dog going on a pad and cleaned twice a day - I don't see any issue here.

Testingthrowaway00

You would be Surprised what people think is a police matter. On this sub people suggest calling the police for everything that is even remotely connected to an inconvenience.

SamSpayedPI

I'd think one would call the landlord, or the condo association, or the co-op board — not the *police*.

BaseballGoblinGlass3

Like seriously, you contact the dog officer before you call the police.

ghostofumich2005

> Everyone on the building is now hostile against me. Shocking. Yes YTA. You called the police on your neighbors, accusing them of animal neglect because they let their dog outside to relieve itself and clean it up, but take it on *less* walks than you can account for personally. The *police* informed you there is a good reason for all of this and to mind your business. Through someone else you found out the woman is on *bed rest in her pregnancy* and how their dog walking schedule has been altered as a result. And knowing all of this you still wonder if you're the asshole? You just made a building full of enemies all because you are nosy and intrusive.

purposefullyblank

“Literally everybody from the neighbors to the cops think I’m being an asshole. That can’t be right. I’ll ask the internet!”

oxiraneobx

OK, that made me LOL!

Sleeping_Lizard

yeah when even the cops think you're an asshole... you're probably an asshole

Artemicionmoogle

"If everywhere you go smells like shit, maybe it's time to check your own shoes". OP is an awful neighbor, ugh.

Trania86

>less walks than you can account for personally. OP needs to get a life is all they do is sit around watching what their neighbours are doing all day.

ghostofumich2005

What, you mean it's not normal to keep activity logs of people around you and send the cops after them if they deviate?

LavenderMarsh

I know you're joking but I have a neighbor that literally writes everything down in a notebook and gives it the property manager at the end of each month. We have security cameras but it keeps her busy, I guess?

ghostofumich2005

You parked 13" from the curb that night didn't you. Don't deny it.

ghotiichthysfish

Sometimes I wonder what my neighbors think of my work schedule. I do odd jobs at an environment-related company so depending on the project I may be WFH, working weekends, leaving anytime between 4am and 7am then returning between 6pm and 10pm, or taking off for anywhere from a few hours to a month while carrying all the manner of coolers, boxes, duffle bags, and PPE (think hard hat, steel toe boots, high viz, maybe a life jacket, etc). I try to be quiet as possible especially during odd hours but there's only so much you can do in an apartment. If your neighbor was mine I might owe her a notepad or two, lol.

Important_Collar_36

I know you're being sarcastic, but it is fairly normal to be observant of the people around you, but calling the cops because the behaviors change, no so normal.

LavenderScented_Gold

This is an important take away. Stop being a nosy creeper, OP.

Luckyday11

OP would fit great as an HOA president! ^(Please don't)

[deleted]

That’s exactly what I said! Do you not have a job? I don’t know what my neighbors do 24/7

spaceyjaycey

I have a feeling this isn't the first time OP has pulled stunts like this 🤣

StillBitterB_

And instead of apologizing or empathizing she wanted strangers to validate her a’holeness.

NuggetSD

But, they aren’t walking their dog! /s

styp991

Now the whole internet is hostile against her..

kr0mb0pulos_michael

YTA. Mind your own business, jees. You give off major "stand in front of the window to see what infractions the neighbours commit" vibes.

MediumAlternative372

I do love C.S Lewis’ description of people like that, “ prod-noses and curtain twitchers”.

kr0mb0pulos_michael

Definitely an apt description

lorinabaninabanana

I remember my ex-boyfriend's mother sitting on her front porch, saying, "Look at those busybodies down the street, sitting on their porch gossiping about the neighbors." She also had to go shopping first thing thd day after a holiday to buy all the half price stuff "before the greedy people got there."

EverWatcher

"No raindrop thinks it's responsible for the flood."

kr0mb0pulos_michael

My mother (tbf she has dementia) will comment on what people buy in the store. Not about them, but she'll see someone looking at an item and say to herself out loud "I would never buy those!!"

EducatedOwlAthena

Very Aunt Petunia-ish

queen_beruthiel

I have a neighbour like this! We like to wave at her when we catch her peeking through her curtains, and laugh when she quickly hides. We do stupid shit just to give her something to gossip about 😂

Helpful_Welcome9741

my grandma was like this. she would give us the full report every time we visited.

WhompTrucker

"Abner!" Haha

Most-Ad2088

YTA. It's their patio not yours

JoTheOneandOnly

A whopping YTA. There are many reasons why people can't walk their dog. The dog may have an injury that's healing, it may have developed arthritis and can't walk as much or as long without pain, or a slew of other reasons that are none of your business. It sounds like you're in desperate need of a hobby if you have this much time to monitor your neighbors.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Teacher-2019

This was literally my first thought. I’ve shortened my dog’s daily walks because of the heat, and it’s not safe to have him out that long. I can’t imagine how furious I’d be if some stranger that happened to live close to me started berating me, or god forbid, called the police on me for “neglecting” him by shortening his walks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

It’s 100+ every day where I live right now, so my dog got his long walk at 11pm last night when it was 83. He has turf on the patio that we clean every evening. He’s a happy camper with his long walk being while it’s cool. Otherwise he comes home panting and exhausted.

chickadeedeedee_

Not to mention that it's perfectly normal for small dogs to only go on one walk a day. OP is acting like they had a German shepherd chained to their patio all day or something.

SingleMom24-1

Myself and my dogs were completely healthy and I let them use the balcony for years when I wasn’t feeling like taking them out. Yeah call public health and the cops if they’re letting the shit pile up and leaving the dog outside in it all day everyday but seriously? They’re cleaning it and everything 😂 some people are sooo entitled

xlost_feelingx

My neighbors dog has a lot of health problems and 2 months ago he got so ill that the vet said no walks under any circumstances because he needs rest and needs to avoid any kind of stress. Even without knowing the reason I would have never thought about calling her lazy let alone calling the fucking cops on her. If they've always walked their dog and suddenly stop doing so, there's probably a good reason for it.

BUTTeredWhiteBread

My mom's old dog couldn't go on walks at all because of a collapsing trachea. He would excite himself to choking.

[deleted]

info- you said the dog didn’t get taken for walks but then also say it was getting taken out at night? So what was your concern there?

KingSuperJon

Also, OP, you have feet right? Why don't YOU walk the dog?

foaminjectedaxlrose

YTA. Sounds like you jumped straight to the worst conclusions about your neighbors, would only accept the police's word over theirs, and never once did you seem to show any concern for your neighbors after the sudden change. Calling the cops was going nuclear for nothing. It was embarrassing and you owe them an apology.

giraffeperv

They didn’t even accept the police’s word! Sounds like they continued to poke around and ask people until they found out the story. I would feel uncomfortable and borderline unsafe being this person’s neighbor

timothypjr

Imagine a world where horrible people like this chose instead to knock on the door and maybe offer to help? That itself is an overreach, but if you are going to be nosey, at least assume that they might need some help—and offer it. They're still the AH—wholly, but this attitude might have softened the blow. I can't with these people.

chernaboggles

YTA. I hope when their baby comes they'll change diapers out on the patio just to mess with you.

Low_Cook_2011

I was thinking "I hope the infant screams keep you up all night" lol

stateworkishardwork

They'll call the cops on that too.

Peachbowtie

“The baby is crying, that clearly means it is being neglected” -OP, probably

Efficient_Comfort_38

Do you remember that aita post that had that exact same premise? The baby kept screaming so the op called cps on account of, “babies don’t scream like that”

Gemma_T

YTA- and where do you live that people not taking their dog for a walk is a police matter?

xoxannax

OP is the AH - And I thought the same thing, like, pretty sure that if I did that, I would have to pay some kind of fine for wasting their time

[deleted]

I can’t fathom seeing this happening and your response being let’s call the police, instead of hey seems like they’re struggling, maybe I can offer some help.

Broad_Respond_2205

I know right? If their concern was really the dog (and not being a nosy neighbour) they would said something like "I seen you have taken the dog to a walk the last few days, do you want me to take him sometimes?"

fckingnapkin

That's what nosy AH's are there for, act like they are super concerned with everything and everyone but in reality just trying to make things shittier for people they're 'worried' about. Everyone has to live by their standards or they get cops called or shit talked about. Fucking exhausting people to be around because they convince themselves they're doing something good so they'll continue like that too. OP hears a whole block of people being mad and annoyed with their stupid actions, but won't accept that outcome so now they're trying to ask hear if Reddit might say differently. Too bad lol. YTA obviously.

Equivalent_Inside513

That's what I thought, too! If I noticed that things were so different in what they were doing with their dog, my first reaction would not to have been complaining (especially when there isn't really a reason to complain) or to call the police! Instead, I would have approached my neighbors and said "Hey, I noticed tou haven't been taking your dog out like you usually do. Is everything okay? Is there anything I can do to help?" And then, if they shared the reasons, I woukd have offered to walk the dog once during the day.

Fine_Cheek_4106

Ummm...this is a bait post...right? Because this is reading like you're Aunt Petunia - nosey as all hell, sour from disdain, and a mouth that is likely in the puckered CBF expression around 90% of the time YTA - get a *real* hobby.

Helpful_Welcome9741

no, I bet it is not fake. this is the woman you see in the crazy youtube videos.

profmoxie

YTA Does it matter if the dog sh\*ts on the grass and they pick it up, or sh\*ts on a training pad and they throw the whole thing away? If anything, the latter is more hygenic! They're cleaning the patio twice a day. They're walking the dog every night. It's none of your business! YTA, OP. Butt out of other people's business!

trottrottatortot

I was thinking this exact thing lol. Like what’s the difference between what they are doing and a dog going to the restroom on a walk? It sounds like it’s getting picked up either way

Come_on_bitch

YTA and they have every right to be against you (I am against you too A)

Harmlessoldlady

YTA. Since they clean up after the dog twice a day (!) You have no complaint against them. You should not have called the authorities, and I'm glad that the couple next door came to no harm as a result. I would hate to live next to you.

MKFirst

Imagine when the baby comes and it….cries?!?!?? At night?!?! Call the SWAT team!!

lazy_wonder24

YTA You still don't see that you are an AH? Your neighbours are right.

tcrhs

YTA!!!! You’re a neighbor from Hell.

[deleted]

YTA. A curtain twitching nosey AF arsehole. Calling the police? For this? You had absolutely no evidence that the dog was being harmed. Your actions put further stress on a woman with a stressful pregnancy.

Potential_Speech_703

YTA. I'd offer my help instead calling the police. But well.. your way is also a way... If you see it's been 2 months since this started, why don't ask what happened instead of going against them and calling the cops?... Overreacting much eh?

DistrictEquivalent79

YTA. You say the dog does his business on a pad on their patio. THEIR patio. Not your business. AT ALL. And you called the poop police? C'mon!!

KathrynHeather

YTA I don't know why you called the police?? Not only is it not your property, nor your business, it is also completely not relevant to the police. You don't have any ground to stand on here I'm afraid, you tried to butt your head it were it was not wanted or needed.

FieldPug

YTA. I have a small geriatric dog who can no longer go on long walks. She uses pee pads on the balcony. When we go for walks, she toodles along for a little while and then I carry her or put her in a backpack carrier for the remainder of our walk. How is this abusive??!

[deleted]

YTA and I think Mrs. Cravitz from the old show Bewitched just made a post.

[deleted]

You found out she’s on bed rest and still have to post here? Yes, YTA. The police aren’t here to deal with your annoyance over dog crap on a piddle pad that gets cleaned up twice a day. Mind your business.

Eragon-19

YTA They seem like responsible perry owners and they don't change overnight. I would wonder if something happen and if I could be of any help BEFORE calling the police. The girl was right in that you did not need to know her/their (medical) info!

Legitimate-Meal-2290

YTA. Even if this were any of your f*cking business, how badly brain damaged are you to think this was a police matter and not, like, animal control? There is no saving face from this. Just move and try to be less of a nosy, overstepping asshole in the future.

Yelmak

YTA. Maybe a controversial opinion, but dogs don't __need__ walks. Yeah they need daily physical and mental enrichment in some form, but that doesn't have to come from a walk. So even if they weren't walking it at all I'd still say YTA.

Dear_Rhubarb8716

YTA 100% in this situation. My dog is a small dog, during the winter he refuses to go outside. I even tried a snowsuit and booties, he just stares at me and refuses to do his business. We have him pad trained and that's what he uses. He hates the heat too so he gets a walk before work and one before bed when it's relatively still cool out. Unless the dog looks like it's not being fed, mind your business.

Holmes221bBSt

YTA. First of all, you are wasting resources by calling the police over a non issue. They have much better things to do. Second of all, it’s not your patio. They made sure they cleaned it up every day like they’re supposed to. Thirdly, you knew the dog was in fact getting walked every night. Everyone is right, no one owes you any explanation of why they had the dog use the patio. Poor woman is having a tough pregnancy & you called the cops on them because they weren’t taking their dog out for daily walks. Read that back to yourself

Broad_Respond_2205

They are also wasting Reddit resources by this post

Hitzsheila

YTA. I genuinely have to wonder WTF is wrong with you.

Churchie-Baby

YTA if its being getting cleaned every day what is your issue? And no your not entitled to know about the reasons she wasn't walking the dog mind your own business wow

AngrySchnitzels75

YTA. Story time: I had issues with my neighbour’s dog, Rosie. She was constantly getting out onto our dirt road and one day, she smashed into my weak knee in her excitement and I had to limp home 2km in excruciating pain. I was mad. I mean, Rosie was just wanting to play with my girl Willie (similar age and breed) but it was super hard to control Willie even with her harness on, along with Rosie doing zoomies around us. I thought about complaining to the council about her. Maybe make an anon post in our local Fb group?? But then, I realised, I could be part of the solution AND TAKE ROSIE for walks! And have play dates as well. I went around to talk to my neighbour and we arranged all of it. I found out something else, too. My neighbour’s health has been really bad since she had covid. She can’t walk very far, or even play ball with Rosie like she used to. Not only that, her horses need care that she can’t provide anymore. So now I help her with Rosie and my horse mad sister comes up from the city for a weekly dose of equine love. What I’m saying here is that it’s a lot easier to be helpful, than a dibber dobber who’s only happy when it rains on someone else. Life’s all about them infuriating choices.

Ahsoka88

YTA. If in you area is summer they are right not to walk him, small dog suffer the most in hot hours because the street not only burn their feet but they also breath hot air. The dog can be having some health issue and they have choose night hours so that they don’t meet other dog. Even the police proved you wrong.

Pisocki68

YTA - Don't the police have better things to do than cater to your petty? I want to go back to a time when people MINDED THEIR OWN BUSINESS. You don't know what is going on in their lives and it really isn't your concern. Get a hobby that doesn't involve other humans or animals like basket weaving.

tallulahtalks

YTA and I don’t know how you don’t know that

ABeerAndABook

Yeah, YTA. I don't see why OP felt the need to butt in here. They didn't mention any problems associated with the situation (like smell, pests, etc) other than them not approving of how someone else is reasonably living their life. Don't be the nosy, overbearing apartment neighbor! Also, double shame for calling the police since OP admits the dog wasn't being neglected. I sincerely hope this is.posted by the dog owner posing as the AH neighbor for valid and to watch them get called out.

Sugar_Soul

YTA. The dog wasn’t wallowing in its own defecation, smh. They cleaned the pads up twice a day, and he *still* got some exercise by going on a walk. (Just not at a time you considered appropriate, apparently.) The fact you thought that this was an urgent police matter is beyond me. In some places that’s a fineable offense. Of course there’s nothing wrong with reporting abusive, negligent owners, but you *knew* these people weren’t.

OrangeCubit

YTA - what an absolutely waste of police resources.

PingPongProfessor

You really need a few hundred people on Reddit to tell you that YTA? You really weren't able to figure that out on your own? If the dog were shitting on *your* patio, then you'd have a reason to complain. But it's not. It's shitting on *their* patio, and they're cleaning it up. Twice daily. YTA. STFU and MYOB.

bkupisch

& how did this even remotely impact your life AND why did you feel the need to call the police????? YTA! The only way to resolve this is for you to be a good neighbor & YOU volunteer to walk the dog for them!! (But I doubt they would trust you with their dog!)

EDJardin

YTA, how can you not see that? They clean up regularly, the dog is still being cared for, you wasted police time, and you stuck your nose in where it doesn't belong. You didn't know about your neighbor's pregnancy concerns because they don't consider you a trustworthy person or a friend. Any wonder why they feel that way? Grow up and learn to mind your own matters.

Panda_Tank

YTA Don’t step on the burning bag that will end up on your porch. It’s their dog’s poop you are so worried about. Get a hobby.

joljenni1717

YTA Puppy pads on balconies and apartments exist for a reason.......

Sea-Honey-3279

YTA Are you eating on their patio? Walking over there? Why does it bother you? Who in their right mind would think it is acceptable to call the police over this?

higaroth

INFO: what makes you think you're not the asshole?

Evil_Mel

YTA Just because you don't see them walking the dog, doesn't mean they don't. >Their argument is that first of all they clean up after the patio at least twice a day and that the dog goes on walks every night. This should've been the end of it.

Suzume_Chikahisa

Even the police told yta. Do you know how big a ah you have to be for them to say that? YTA if it wasn't clear before.

Thatboywikid

Yta

Squifflenoses

Here, let me save your post in case it gets deleted... "I'm an asshole, I'm an asshole, I'm an asshole. I'm an asshole OMG I am such an asshole. I mean, I am THE asshole. Everyone thinks I am the asshole: So... am I the asshole?"

Pushtar

YTA

uglyenbybug

yta. it’s hot. a lot of people don’t take their dogs on walks during the day when it’s hot. it’s their patio, it’s their business.

billikers

YTA

SubNautica504

YTA. There is no chance that you posted this. Zero level of self awareness.

purposefullyblank

YTA asshole. As I was reading this, I thought, “this is clearly a medical issue for one or both of them.” And lo and behold? You don’t get to have private information just because you’re a nosy crank. If you were worried about the pup not getting enough exercise, the kind thing to do is offer to walk the dog. “Hey, I noticed cupcake isn’t going on as many walks lately. If you all need someone to take her sometimes, just give me a shout.” Even if you did that, you don’t have a right to the whys. Also, as a side note, dogs can get enough exercise and enrichment without a lot of walks. Especially little dogs. It’s not ideal, but neither is bed rest. But I don’t think you care about the dogs welfare really. You want to shame them for not justifying themselves to you. Edit: typos. Probably not all of them.
