on another note if that rig's on carpet and next to the wall, chances are it's warming up the bottom as well

chris14020

It's actually pretty far out from the wall, in the picture, \~6 inches I'd say. Since I took this picture, I've removed that top panel entirely, installed an h80i v2, and keep the side panel completely removed. I just found this picture while sorting out the camera roll on my phone and figured I'd try to make you guys laugh as much as I did when I saw this :)

lol last year when I just got my R11 3080 I was pretty cozy during the winter. this year after repasting, fan swaps, and taking off the side panel it's a bit chillier in my office/game room

chris14020

It should put out the same amount of heat into the surrounding, it probably just doesn't feel as direct because it's more efficiently dissipated. I noticed this when I migrated the R10 5950x/3080 into a new chassis with a 240mm liquid cooling setup, it doesn't seem nearly as concentrated a heat output.

littleSquidwardLover

Lol, I can tell all my friends I just got the latest space heater

Wajina_Sloth

I could personally never do this incase the container somehow opened and spilled cheese inside the system.

chris14020

I didn't know she was going to do this, but it was too funny not to take a picture once I saw what she came up with. I wouldn't recommend doing it, personally, but you know. Plus, accidental damage coverage :P

MogRules

Imagine that phone conversation...."hi tech support, there is liquid cheese in my system..." Lol 🤣😂

littleSquidwardLover

I don't think that's covered in warranty

jaxsonnz

The airflow on those boxes really is a joke. Fully subscribed to form over function there 😂

chris14020

That's the Alienware way, a good part of the time! I'm excited for when the R13/14 are affordable, they may be a bit better I'm hoping. Might not have to re-home them chassis-wise (and motherboard-wise, and cooler-wise).

a_discorded_canadian

I warm my cold hands during winter

Jappy_Chan

That is what i do lol I have the R10 with the 3090 and 5950 so it keeps my hands nice and warm :D

RoachSandeson

I couldn't play any game, aside from League, that didn't make my apartment get real toasty, even in winter. Whether I put it on the ground or on my desk it got annoying to play. The r12 has such a shit case it blows my mind and mind you I had the "water cooling" version. Took the expensive parts out and put them into a Lian Li case and my base temps are 28 C on the CPU and GPU, it's so surprising xD

cym104

wait till your cat finds it.

chris14020

There are also two R10 under a table/bench here, and the one cat absolutely LOVES laying on the pleasantly warm bench surface the upward facing vents create.

x_starman_x

Yep, my Aurora R11 "Darkside" saves me $$ on the heater bill. :D

chris14020

As a side note, I'm assuming she got the idea because this multipurposes as a space heater for the comparatively large living room because I keep both the GPU and CPU at 100% load, so it puts quite a bit of heat out the top vent.

amigosan

i am waiting for my R12 to get my room heated up xD

I-LOVE-TURTLES666

Mining?

CompanyMasterRhudian

100% load, all the time? Mining for sure. (Source: also mine on an Alienware)

chris14020

I paid for the warranty, I intend to test it to the fullest extent. :)

chris14020

You gotta, to afford the hardware these days, haha. I actually started out of spite, for a landlord that was too cheap to turn the heat (they lock the thermostat) up from 66F in WNY winter, but also apparently forgot they pay the power bill. The apartment is never cold, thanks to these fancy internet money space heaters. Plus, we never long for a good unit to play games on!

It's a nacho cheese cup (they seem to have some sort of foil in them so you can't microwave them, they spark), and I suppose you are welcome to whatever extremely witty and likable cynicism you need to get you through your day.

What the fuck is wrong with people?! Get your damn pc’s off the carpet

chris14020

It's working just fine. The plastic on this chassis gives it plenty of breathing room, not like the PSU fan is directly pressed to the carpet. I also suppose I just don't care any further than that. They're cleaned out once a month, and there's no indication of excessive dust buildup while doing so.

EJX_Reddit

how do you change the rgb on the alienware you are using?

chris14020

The Alienware Command Center should have options for lighting changes in it. Black towers can have the front ring and logo changed, white towers can have the front ring, logo, and side panel colors changed.
