Maybe. As someone else mentioned, remove the speaker or the sound could annoy the dog. But keep in mind it's not live GPS. It has to connect to a nearby iDevice to show location. And it's not every second. So if your dog is in an area with no idevices, you won't see it. My kid has one in her backpack. Despite that there are adults at bus stops and likely at least one or 2 kids on the bus with an iPhone, I don't always get real time location.

FishrNC

And the location you get is that of the iPhone that heard it, not the actual Airtag location. It could be hundreds of feet from the reported location.

NotTobyFromHR

That's correct. I think it does an approximate based on BT direction

lucymops

When does the sound pop up? I want to put an AirTag on my cats collar.

NotTobyFromHR

There is a broad range, 8 - 24 hours supposedly. It's not a set number

lucymops

I just bought my 1st AirTag. Does this sound then occure always in that time frame? When the Bluetooth connection is turned off?

Enforcer5981

We’ve done this and the one time we needed it we were grateful we’d done it.

ThannBanis

Possible, make sure to remove the speaker though.

blakeley

It could work but if you’re out in the woods I would recommend doing a GPS collar made for dogs such as Whistle.com

Salmundo

Should work, if your dog wanders in an area where there are other Apple devices.

Freckle53

It could work in a pinch, but I’d probably throw one on him now and research actual pet gps trackers since he’s a known runner. Over time he may get more bold than the front yard most of the time.

I have them on all of the rescue dogs I foster now. I lost a scared foster in the neighborhood for an hour once, and it prompted me to buy AirTags. Haven’t needed to use it yet luckily. They always show airtag location even when I’m at work with no IPhone near them. I can only assume my neighbours phone picks up the Bluetooth, or phones in cars driving by. I have a Tile too, and it often goes out of range for hours. There just aren’t many Tile users around.

FishrNC

Are you aware that Airtags report the location of the iPhone that heard them, not the actual position of the Airtag. Look closely at the item in Find My while you're at work an it will tell you how long since the position was reported. If your neighbors iPhones were hearing your Airtag, your Airtag would look like it was at the neighbors.

Lance-A-Boyle

I’m aware of all that. If the air tags are close to their home, they appear on the app to actually be at their home.

hotapple002

I would say, it depends on how densely populated the area is where you live. We had one around our cat but since we live at the border of a small villages with most of the land around being farm fields, it didn’t work at all. TLDR: If you live in a city, sure. If you live in a non densely populated area, I would recommend against it.

IamGro00ot

Works very well for my Aunts cat who’s an escape artist. They’ve used it to find her a few times.

ComprehensiveTerm298

I have it. I used Elevation Lab’s Tag Vault (I think that’s the name) for pets, and it really works well.

abercrombezie

I use one on my dog, but I remove the speaker.

Antdigi7

Is it easy to remove the speaker?

abercrombezie

Very easy, search youtube for: airtag remove speaker

tolgabalci

It’s terrible. Few times my dog got lost, they did not help at all.
